Left right: cosmos, artichokes, Shasta daisies, rose fertilizer.. there's also cat mint hidden in the back

Can't believe this was my first visit in all my years of Portland gardening (!) great place - crammed with an amazing selection of plants/ veggies/ shrubs/ perennials as well as annuals for all sorts of growing conditions. Came for the large bags of organic rose fertilizer, couldn't resist plants I've been considering ( reintroducing after the harsh winter we had a couple years back)... Lots of help from friendly teens (summer jobs?) too - loved that - this is now our garden center of choice ( sorry Portland Nursery)...

My last boss purchased a gift card to Tony's Garden Center for me as a parting gift. I think he just typed "gardening Portland" into Google since he knew I liked gardening and since he's not from here and therefore not familiar with any nurseries. I hadn't really heard of Tony's before receiving this gift so I wasn't sure what to expect. But this place is awesome! Quite large, rivaling Portland Nursery's size, with a wide variety of plants. They have a section for natives towards the front, discounted plants that need some TLC right by the door, many many greenhouses for younger or indoor plants, lots of bigger trees to choose from - but they don't break the bank! I spent the whole gift card (hehe) but I'd love to come back here to keep an eye on their stock and add to my yard and houseplant collection.

Wow! Amazing nursery. Impressed with the variety! They have it ALL. From seeds, to bushes, fruit trees, all kinds of trees, plants. Prices are the best I've seen for pdx. Knowledge and kind people working here.

A Schlitz cocktail, since everyone is asking about it! Yum!

Warning: Do not get this place confused with Tony's Tavern in NE Portland! I was trying to take an Uber to the other Tony's but ended up at this one by mistake. This is a Garden Center not a bar. However, the staff was very accommodating and although they would not serve me a drink on account of me being under 21, I ended up leaving with a house plant and a smile. I give them 5 Stars, but it really felt more like a 4.5 Star place because they were not selling Schlitz Cocktails. Update: since people are asking, a Schlitz cocktail is a can of Schlitz beer served with whipped cream and a cherry on top. It is my favorite beverage for when I've been a good boy and I want to treat myself. Try it sometime! But you'll have to do it at a different Tony's, not at this one. Because this one is a garden center.

Such a great selection and wonderful prices to match. A friend turned me on to Tony's last year. I only wish I had known about it earlier!

I was fortunate enough to see some of their handiwork at an event held in the yard of someone who had previously discovered them. Hearing about what that space had looked like before and seeing the magical landscape that had been created there, I knew my wife and I needed to meet Nick Lake. Since then, he and his fantastic team have completely transformed our outside space into the most beautiful part of our home. Nick is an absolute treasure trove of inspiration and information. From the moment we first met with him, we knew we wanted to proceed as soon as possible. We didn't have pressing issues that made landscaping work an "emergency" (e.g., no water problems directly related to the yard), so an outside project easily could have waited. We also did not have a high level of horticultural knowledge, nor did we even know exactly what we wanted when we first started talking to Nick. We knew our yard had "potential", i.e. it was a smallish but not tiny, pretty drab space that wasn't particularly functional and wasn't much to look it. It was our conversation with Nick and his vision for the yard that made us want to move forward at that time and turn it into something great. Since then, with a combination of "demo" work, mulching, softscaping and hardscaping, every aspect of our yard has become a thing of beauty that we see and enjoy every single day. Throughout the process, Nick and his team have worked closely with us on every decision and every detail. Nick plays an integral role in all parts of the process and communication with him and his team has always been easy, fun, rewarding, and thorough. There have never been any surprises in terms of cost or how something was done. As a result, everything is exactly what was discussed and we could not be any happier with it. Nick certainly deserves the lion's share of the credit as the owner of the business, the mastermind behind the work, and a hands-on contributor to the implementation. That said, huge shout out for his entire crew and honorary mention for Tulsi, the smart and adorable dog that might make some appearances if Tashana is working and you give the green light. Every member of the team brings something important to the job, always including hard work but also creativity and individual areas of interest and expertise. The result is frequent flashes of brilliance and pleasant surprises throughout all phases of a project. It isn't a great time of year for pictures as I'm writing this (I'll add more in the spring) but below is a stone bench that took form during one day's work. This was not even part of the original plan, just an off-the-cuff idea (thanks to Kyle, Tommy, Daniel and Tashana if memory serves) to which we could have said "no thanks" if we were that foolish. Even once there are more pictures to add, they can only do so much. Nick knows he is always welcome to swing by and show off the beauty, which keeps getting better with every growth season. Whether we are sitting in the yard, walking through it to get to or from the house, or just staring at it through a window, we count ourselves lucky that this is actually part of our home. I cannot recommend Earth Ecology strongly enough. With Nick and his crew, you will get everything that you wanted and a lot more. As happened for us, you will get done with each step and be so happy that you decided to go for it, and occasionally scratch your head wondering if there is anything else you can do out there. Thanks, Earth Ecology :-)

Portland Garden Decor -- A Truly Exceptional Experience…read more From the moment we walked into Portland Garden Decor on the Sunday before Memorial Day, Stefan and his crew were nothing short of incredible. We had an idea of what we wanted, and within minutes they were gathering pieces from around the grounds and building two complete fountains right in front of us so we could compare styles, sound, and flow. They filled each fountain by hand, balanced them perfectly, and turned them on so we could experience the full effect. We were honestly blown away. The craftsmanship, the care, and the attention to detail were on another level. Stefan's pricing is more than fair -- especially considering we had looked online beforehand and anything comparable was well over $3,000. His deal was so good we couldn't pass it up. He answered every question with patience and expertise, and let us know they could deliver to the Fisher's Landing area after glazing the piece, which we requested. Just as promised, Stefan called on Wednesday and arrived promptly for delivery. He and his one man crew handled the extremely heavy base with ease and professionalism, bringing everything carefully around to our backyard. In under 30 minutes, they had the fountain set, filled, leveled, running beautifully, and even treated the water with algicide. The level of service was truly above and beyond. We couldn't be happier with our fountain or with the entire experience. We highly recommend Portland Garden Decor to anyone looking for a custom fountain or unique garden pieces. We'll absolutely be back for statues, pottery, and fountains in the future.

It took me far too long to visit this delightful women-owned shoppe, but now that I have I will add it to my shortlist of Portland favorites. First off, the owners couldn't have picked a more appropriate setting for a plant shoppe. With a classic storefront with window displays on both sides of the entrance, the store takes on a nostalgic vibe of tradesperson shops of yesteryear. I love knowing I'm shopping small, locally owned businesses that make our communities vibrant and diverse. Now let's get to the plants... that's the reason we're here! There's quite a diverse selection of houseplants in such a small space... indeed, something for everyone. If you need to pop in quickly for a "Get Well" card and a miniature pot of African Violets, they've got it. If specialty plants are more your thing, you'll find everything from the sought after Monstera cultivars, cacti and succulents, to Anthurium and Begonias. In fact, given their regular delivery schedule, it sounds like they can special order pretty much anything you might need. I spent 15 minutes or so getting to know Kailia, one of the owners who is also a registered horticultural therapist. She's very friendly, knowledgeable, and a delightful addition to the neighborhood. She made a clumsy oaf like me feel extremely at ease in her adorable shoppe. Be sure to check out their very informative website, LarkspurPortland.com for lots of valuable resources, information on Horticultural Therapy, and a pretty good impression of the types of plants the have in stock. I'm a fan, and I'll continue coming back!
