Cannoli

I had to work on Labor Day and was hungry after leaving "the cow field". I hadn't had Italian food in awhile and looked for a spot here in the Hialeah / Miami Lakes area I hadn't checked out before. Their menu seemed to have all of the staples in place so off I went. It's in a strip mall tucked away in the residential heart of PSN (aka North Miami Lakes) and next to a Peruvian restaurant. It's a family owned restaurant, similar to my favorite fancier place down by the Miami River, and supposedly has been open for over 40 years. With the wood paneling decoration, I believe it's been open that long. Due to That Which Shall Not Be Named, they have reduced space in the dining room. Who I believe was the owner / owner's wife pointed me over to a table and I glanced the menu. My waitress brought out a sizeable tray of garlic rolls to my table, but no balsamic vinegar. Still, the rolls were warm, fluffy and not excessively garlicky (I ask for them this way, so a win!) They didn't have caprese salad, so I started my meal with their pasta fagioli soup (3/5). My main was their chicken parm with spaghetti. The pasta had a generous helping of rich Marinara sauce, really hearty. The chicken breast, while tasty, could have used a little more sauce though. It tasted mostly just like regular breaded chicken (3.5/5) The cannoli I had for dessert, topped with chocolate chips and a sweet cream was the highlight (5/5). I don't know how many other employees they had but service was why I'm keeping this at 3 stars. Service was slow, and I waited a little bit before being attended to again despite just one more table there. All in all, not bad if you're in the area or a quick lunch but I didn't get a fancy dinner vibe.

Exquisite pizza, their dough is my favorite by far. Chilled ambiance and super nice staff. We will be back when in the area.

My wife and I have eaten here several times a month since they opened in 1975. We love it! My wife…read moreis Italian, and her grandmother (a phenomenal cook, BTW) would only eat out at this Italian restaurant. Personally, I have eaten just about everything on the menu, from their seafood combo, snapper francaise, eggplant Parmesan, to a simple spaghetti and meat sauce! And everything you hear about the garlic rolls is true! The staff is great. The owner frequently stops by our table and sits and talks for a while. Our regular waitress, Gabby, is like a daughter to us. She's also the bartender for their new bar area, so you will get a solid drink. Prior to Gabby, we had a waitress named Nixa, who invited us to her wedding. Unfortunately we lost her to cancer. But I guess you can understand how attached we are to this restaurant, primarily for the food, but for the family feeling we get. And we also see lots of our friends, many of whom started coming there on our recommendation.

50 years in the making this Italian joint looks and feels right out of the 1960s. Old school menu…read morewith 1990 prices. You will not starve from anything you order. Everyone has garlic knots on tables that look and smell amazing. However, they're a little hard due to probably being the oven longer and using the same pizza dough. We started with a white pizza that generally was good. Ricotta was smothered then topped with mozzarella. No garlic, oregano or EVOO so it seemed little too careless what could have been stellar pie. Meatballs were huge covered in red sauce and were nicely seasoned. Pastas were a little under-seasoned, huge portions that pooled water. Could have been a drained more carefully or sauces thicker. A few more teaspoons of parsley or a bit of fresh grated Parmesan would have elevated them. Veal Parm entree on the menu was crispy but smothered with mozzarella. It was a generous portion but it would have been great to get more of the contrasted breaded texture. Mussels seemed older than necessary and had a strong aroma. Asiago Gnocchi was a huge predominantly white plate filled with probably 24-30 dumplings. Drink menu had a lot of creative cocktails. Prices were very reasonable and the place gets busy with groups and families. Service was great and quick and the old timers made you feel at home.

The pizza is spectacular and Miami Slice itself is such a unique experience…read more You walk in and there are limited bar seats. It's like an omakase of pizza, however you tell your waitress what slices you'd like to try and they serve them up. You'll notice the menu is limited, but that's a good thing. They're doing what they do best and it really is THAT good. If you're in Miami, I highly recommend this spot as one of Miami's must visits.

I only had a few bites…read moreof my sister's order, and I gotta say, I'm not much that impressed :/ This was a 30 minute drive away from our house and I don't think it's worth making. If there were more locations, I think they'd be redeemed. It was light in the sauce. The cheese was sharp and nice! The breading was CRISP and greasy (in a good way). I'd say they excel in that category. There aren't many toppings to choose from, many points lost from me in that regard. The slice portion feels on par with what you pay for, it's not overpriced for what it's worth. Also, there was no line and very little wait time contrary to what I expected it to be, according to other reports. Overall, I think I need to try it again, maybe on those Monday Chef curated nights and see if they are more extraordinary.
