Tony fixed an old quartz watch for a very good price. He's done 2 repairs for me and both have been quick and easy.

I've been looking for a local watch repair service for suite sometime now and a friend recommended Tony's. It was bit out of the way, but I had 100 year old family heirloom pocket watch that no one wanted to touch, an Oris that wasn't running and an Omega SMP from 1999 that wasn't running well and hasn't had a service since 2014. I wanted to get my watches back more quickly then having Omega or Oris send it to Switzerland and have me waiting 6-8 weeks...would like to save a few bucks too. I met Tony in his "booth" and he was quite the character sporting two watches on both wrists and excitedly greeting me. He seems like a nice guy and after we spoke he said to leave the watches and he'll get back to me with a price. He also had a few vintage watches to sell, the best being a 1950's gold Seamaster. He texted me the price a few days later $250 for both the Oris and pocket watch and $375 for the Omega. I thought the price was great for the pocket-watch and good for the Omega and Oris. It took about 4 weeks to complete all three(he had to wait on some parts). He let me know when they were ready and I stopped by to pick them up. The pocket watch was running great as was the Oris. The Omega was also running well, however when I asked him if he changed the gaskets to make sure the watch was still good to go diving and swimming in he said no. He doesn't provide any waterproofing testing service. He also mentioned that he would have had to take the front off to change that gasket and only the stem and helium release valve gaskets were changed. He showed me another watch for sale( an older Breitling chrono that had been polished way too much for $1800). I thanked him and paid. When I got home I also noticed some tension scratches on the back of the Omega around the holes you use to open the case. It also dawned on me that he doesn't clean the watches or offer a polishing service. I don't usually have my watches polished anyway but I do like them cleaned. To sum up the experience, the watches are all running well and I think he did a phenomenal job on the pocket watch and a solid job on the Oris. I wasn't really happy about the Seamaster as I now have to find a place that won't charge me for a full service to change the gaskets and make sure it's water proof to 300m. In retrospect I could have brought it to Omega and paid another $175 to have it done right and without any tension scratches. In the future, I would use him again for a watch that is hard to get fixed because of it's age and a watch that doesn't require any polishing and waterproofing. I would have liked to give him 3 1/2 stars but Yelp doesn't offer that. read more

My humble "first-time-getting-a-watch-serviced" experience with Tony's Watch Repair started with my dad handing down his old Seiko 6309-7290 to me. Price-wise people may argue that repairing vintage Seiko is not worth your money. Now it may not be a Rolex, an AP, an Omega, or your other luxury swiss-made watch, but the Slim Turtle's design really spoke out to me and more than anything carried with it sentimental value. Not having been in use for a long time, I knew right away that my Slim Turtle needed to be serviced upon inspection. However not just any watch repair shop could service it being that your repairman would need the right skills & knowledge to be able to operate on vintage Seiko. So I did my research and searched up a number of different watch repair locations but could not find one close, available, or affordable enough that would be able to work on my Slim Turtle. That's when I discovered Tony's Watch Repair in Chinatown. I brought in my Slim Turtle and asked for an evaluation and estimate. After opening up the caseback, Tony gave me his verdict: Needed an overhaul and a few other adjustments. But the cost came as a pleasant surprise to me considering what I've heard the cost of overhauls typically run for. After finalizing all the business factors, I was even able to have a friendly conversation with Tony about our passion for watches. He told me that the job would be done in a week, but a few days later he contacted me to tell me that the service was finished! So I came back in and graciously received my Slim Turtle back which was now alive and ticking! In terms of what he had to do: Tony overhauled and cleaned rust off the movement, adjusted the balance wheel, and had fixed a bent hour gear which desynced the hands. This is the end of my story. But to all who are considering, I HIGHLY recommend trusting Tony with your vintage timepiece. He's very friendly and does great work. Since Seiko no longer has parts available for my watch, they just returned it to me without any additional help or referrals. I came across Tony's Watch repair after reading a few reviews myself. I am really glad that I found him! One of the pins broken on the stainless steel band. Tony was able to drill a tiny hole and extract the old pin and replace it with a new one! Wow...that was great! How come Seiko couldn't do this themselves?!?!! When I came back to him another time to change a watch battery, he even pulled out a few old rusted pins on my band and replaced them with new ones at no extra charge!! Now that is great service!!! Watch band repair=$35, crystal replacement $35, change watch battery=$10. Those repair shops on West 47th street can't even come close to Tony's very reasonable prices!! I didn't have Tony repair any of my watches, but I do want to help put his shop on the Yelp map a bit. I went to New York Jewelry Exchange to check out vintage watches and came upon Tony's collection. Tony was nice enough to have a thirty minute conversation with me about vintage watches. He has an awesome collection of vintage watches for sale including Omegas, Hamiltons, Seikos, a LeCoultre, an amazing Chronographe Suisse and numerous others. He services and cleans all of them before selling them with all original parts. I'd really recommend checking out his watches! I also noticed he was servicing a Bulova Accutron (which from my understanding is a pretty uncommon skill to have) and showed me some Omegas he was currently servicing for customers. I have brought in broken watches ranging from my grandfather's Elgin to a modern Gucci automatic and Tony has done a fantastic job on each of them. With the Elgin, Tony was painstakingly able to obtain quite a number of vintage parts. He also put in special spring bars to keep the strap I bought in the diamond district from falling off. As for the Gucci, the rotor was broken and made a horrible noise. Tony charged me under $100 to fix the watch and it hasn't lost more than a few seconds a day since. I have also brought a number of other watches to Tony for band sizing and they have always been perfectly adjusted the first time around. Big or small job, Tony is equally capable. His prices are fair to the point where I find myself rounding up and giving him a bit extra because I am always that satisfied. I could not recommend his work more highly and find him to be a very kind and caring person. Don't be fooled by the lack of Yelp reviews, this world could use more people like Tony. read more

Came in with a broken crystal / glass face on my watch and a nylon strap. Found a stainless steel band to replace to nylon. $20 dollars for the new glass face and $20 dollars for the new stainless band. $40 special cash only. Very pleased. Took 30 minutes. He also sells used watches and has a really nice selection of watches in the 200 dollar range. Probably would've gotten my watch from him originally if I had known about his shop previously ! For 25 years, I've been collecting vintage watches from the 1950s to the 1970s ranging in value from $100 to $2,500, and take it from me: Tony is a treasure. Tony knows watches inside and out. One of the first times I visited him, I noticed that he was wearing a 1950s Hamilton Electric watch (which are known to be extremely temperamental and which few watchmakers today will touch) and was impressed when he told me that he repairs them. He's done an outstanding job of diagnosing and fixing my watches, and his work is always meticulous. As a bonus, he's very fast, with battery replacement done on the spot and more complicated repairs generally completed within a few days (most watchmakers take weeks), as well as incredibly inexpensive. Many of the repairs he's done for me would have easily cost 5 to 10 times as much in the Diamond District. He loves to talk watches and is one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Tony has a permanent stall in one of the multi-dealer jewelry centers on the Bowery. I recommend him without hesitation for everything ranging from simple battery and crystal replacement to overhauling complex automatic movements.
