This location is HORRIBLE !!! I have been to their location in Dr. Phillips and it was very good. This location is absolutely disgusting. I had a pastrami burger which was dripping with grease my wife and her daughter both had the shepherds pie and it was 90% potatoes nothing like the picture shows. And my granddaughter got food poisoning and had to go to the hospital. Stay away from this location. It is nothing like their other locations. read more

There is something comforting about TooJay's. I love coming here for the Matzo ball soup. Nothing better than a hearty bowl of soup. Service has always been polite. We recently had a waitress named Jasmine that went above and beyond. She was excellent. Definitely get a dessert. I have tried the strawberry cheesecake, the killer cake and the chocolate layer cake. The cooks clearly have no idea what they're doing, and the front of house staff must be elementary school dropouts, because they obviously could not possibly have read what I ordered. This is a group of people who are less than amateur. I've had more effectively prepared food at a hot dog stand. If you suck at cooking, and you have not an ounce of passion in your body, just don't work at a restaurant. If you're looking for a quality deli, Toojays is the place! I live in the area so I frequent this location a lot. I generally order my food to-go, but the inside dining arrangements are very nice. Modern interior with lots of light and great people watching of the shops surrounding the restaurant. They have a small Deli counter up front for takeout orders, salads, and desserts. The menu is pretty large with sandwiches being their specialty. I am a huge fan of their Reuben sandwich which I get about 90% of my visits. Their turkey avocado is also very good, but I've never had anything I didn't like. They have more traditional entrees as well such as salads, baked chicken, etc. The brussel sprouts plate is incredible with asparagus, broccoli, onions, bacon, and balsamic glaze. Its no wonder this place is so slow, no business to speak about. My 14.00 sandwich roast beef on brioche and an oder of onion rings: rings were sent to the table drenched with greasy and soggy. Green mold on bottom of bun, tiny roast which had an odor. They weren't concerned or surprised that I wanted it replaced. They acted as if it were a regular occurrence. So I've been to other TooJay's in South Florida and this one is just as good! I love coming for breakfast and the wide assortment of sandwiches. An odd but surprisingly good item which they are known for is the Celery soda, yes I said that right Celery flavored soda. I definitely see this being a great addition to a bloody Mary but that's another story. I'm in love with the potato latkes (or as my bf calls them, "nacho hash browns"). These were similar to potato skins. My next favorite was the pastrami egg rolls, another one where I would just drink the sauce.. I know it's only thousand island but still a definite must to dip these in! Matzo soup was really good as well but I wouldn't say that it should have a cult like following. I loved that we were able to try multiple types of sandwiches(pastrami, Ruben, Turkey avocado). The entrée we sampled was the Chicken Capri which had white wine sauce with mushrooms, capers and artichokes. I'd say this was more on the rich side. Lastly, let's get to the best part of TooJay's, their beyond amazing desserts. I'm torn between the Banana Dream and the Carrott cake.. I love them both equally. We normally love Toojays so I'm sad to write this. We made a reservation online, we arrived at our reservation time and the host said it would be 20 minutes. We asked if he had our reservation and he said he had nothing available. He sounded annoyed with us. I'm fine if there was a miscommunication or if they're short staffed, but I don't appreciate a bad attitude with no apologies. We ended up leaving. I just spoke to the Area Manager Chris and he had a sincere interest in our issues. Their follow up, obvious commitment to customer service and rectification of our issues has changed our 1star to a 5star. Very impressed with their response. My wife and I were in town tonight from out of state staying at a local hotel. My parents from Sarasota drove over for the night to visit. I ordered GrubHub delivery from this restaurant for the 4 of us. When it arrived my Mom's entree was missing. I called and they said it was not available so they just omitted it. (No apology or offer to provide a substitute entree.) My entree of turkey and dressing was less then edible. The thin turkey slices had the texture and moisture content of Jerky. The dressing had the consistency of a lump of clay with about as much flavor. The mashed potatoes were good. My wife's entree of beef brisket and my Dad's of Shepherd pie were to their liking. After spending $99 for this order, finding one entree intentionally left out and another barely edible, the four of us had to place a pizza order to fulfill our hunger. Very disappointed. read more

As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed by the wonderful aroma of fresh-baked pastries. The front case is filled with delicious sweet treats. My chicken salad sandwich was substantial and delicious.The other part of my order was the hot ham and swiss. This restaurant offers all day breakfast items, full dinner meals, outstanding soups, as well as dinner salads and a full service deli. The best part of coming here are the people. We go to Toojays in Dr. Phillips every few months. We have never had a problem, so last night we decided to try the E. Colonial location a try. BIG MISTAKE!!! Our server, Ashley was fine. She was new, so didn't really know the menu, but that is minor. The trouble began when we tried to place our orders. My companion ordered chopped liver on Hallah bread. Poor Ashley had never heard of it, and made faces about it. I tried to order a tongue Reuben, with no thousand island. She told me they didn't have that. I explained, just have them replace the corned beef with tongue. She called over another waitress, who told me a Reuben comes with 3 meats, so did I want tongue with 2 other meats? No, I just want tongue, please. With fries? Yes, please. It gets worse. My companion also ordered a bowl of soup, pretty timely delivery, however, he only had a few spoons because it tasted old. Now, 20 more minutes, and out comes our food. His chopped liver had a very strange color to it, which I commented on. He took a fork, and put a dab in his mouth, and spit it out. He then asked me to try it. Very unwillingly, I did. It was rancid! Very, very very old. Yes, 3 verys!!! Seriously, he could have died from food poisoning, if he ate that! So, we call Ashley over. I told her a grilled Reubens is supposed to be grilled, and I had ordered fries. She took our plates back. Michael ordered a turkey sandwich. 30 minutes later, our food appeared, again. This time, the sandwich was fine, but my fries were cold. My friend had stale bread. We were hungry, so we ate it. All but the fries. The manager, and I use that word lightly, appeared, and asked how everything was. We shut our mouths, and said nothing. Then, she goes to the table behind us, and I hear a gentleman tell her his fries were cold. So, as she is walking by. I tell her my fries were also cold. To end it all, she did comp my dinner. A solid deli and bakery. Brunch meal of choice is the spinach and feta omelet. Black and white cookies are a must. The chocolate cheesecake is also a must. Order ahead and get it to go or eat in and enjoy on the spot. We've stopped in just for baked goods and cake. We've also been just for lunch and nothing sweet. Service can be slow when they are slammed, so I don't recommend them for a timed lunch. Unless of course you order ahead and eat at your desk or at a table outside. I have to say- it's all about the potato pancakes at TooJay's!! Dem pancakes are really a delight. I ordered the large pancakes appetizer -they have mini ones as well, but I thought I'd go with the classic. They were wonderfully crispy on the edges and not too greasy in the middle. Perfection. They also come with sour creme and applesauce on the side- hitting multiple food groups! (Note to self- research possibility of living off of a potato pancakes only diet...) I also ordered the new Gourmet Grilled Cheese - a melt served with American, Swiss, tomato, arugula and avocado, on grilled whole wheat bread. It also comes with French fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. My impression-- ~Meh~ The sandwich looked good, but the American cheese was kind of the opposite of gourmet. This same sandwich, with better cheese, could have really sung. Instead, I found myself picking out the avocado and eating it alone. Is it their fault if the menu clearly stated American cheese? I guess not, but I still think this could be a better conceived sandwich as the American cheese really overpowered anything else that was in that sandwich. The other thing I noticed right when I sat down (and actually my whole table commented on it) was the uncomfortable booth chairs. Normally, I'm stoked to get a booth, but the padding on these seats were positioned oddly, so that they were wider at the top- pushing you forward- than the bottom. Usually, it would be the other way around (for lumbar support and such). This was really odd and uncomfortable. This place is a solid three stars for me. The service is good and the staff is friendly. The dining room looked super full but we barely had to wait at all and food came quickly. It feels almost like a family owned deli to me. My boyfriend chose the meatloaf meal and I chose a chicken avocado sandwich with a cup of chicken noodle soup. I am a soup fiend! This soup was okay. It was a little on the bland side, but the noodles were nicely cooked and not mushy and the broth had a pretty good flavor. My chicken avocado sandwich was also a bit bland in my opinion. I will say the chicken breast on it was large and cooked very well so it was still juicy and good. The avocado was fresh. The sauce on it was like a lemon garlic aioli which could have been great if they flavor was just kicked up a notch. My boyfriend enjoyed his meatloaf meal. The serving sizes are very generous! My sandwich also came with fries which I did not care for. I don't prefer thick cut fries and again, they were pretty bland. The menu has a lot of choices so I would come back since the service was good and I'd like to try some of their deli meats. read more

Toojay's at this location really aint too bad. A couple of friends and I came here after dinner wanting dessert. We ended up splitting a dessert sampler and the staff was super friendly!! One waiter even tried to give us a motivational pep-talk to try to get us to finish the last of the dessert. "But coach!!" I said, "I just can't do it! I'm just not strong enough!!" Well.. no, I didn't say that, but the thought did run through my head. Yup, the desserts here are good, it will even have you imagining stuff you normally never would think of. This place was recommended by a hotel shuttle driver, and it was definitely a good one. I was expecting an average cold cut store but after eating the original I was surprised. The pastrami was excellent here, I like to come one day and dedicate the whole day to stuffing my face with it. I also ordered the Nova Latkes, which were excellent in there own rite. If you like lox bagels and hash browns this is probably your thing. My only regret is that there wasn't a make your own half sandwich combo, it would of been nice to try different sandwiches in one sitting. Maybe next time I'll bring a few friends. I tried Toojays for takeout. . I ordered Fish and Chips, a patty melt with fries and a Roast Beef sandwich on whole wheat. I wasn't pleased with the fish and chips. To me it has very little flavor and tasted like your everyday frozen fish to get at the supermarket. It was supposed to be Cod but it didn't taste like Cod. It tasted very bland. I tasted my son's Patty Melt and it was very flavorful, cooked a little bit more than the medium I ordered but it still tasted good. I just prefer it a little juicier. My other son had Roast Beef on whole wheat and he said it was very good. I had a brownie, w which I thought to be over priced at $3.99 and it was very dense so not so enjoyable. Charlie's Bakery has a better Brownie and at a better price, $3.00 and not nearly as dense. All in all for more than $40 the entire meal, I expected better. read more

This is a Florida chain of deli's. I've eaten at Too Jay's for over 20 years. It's a really good deli. You can get all the traditional New York Deli Items: pastrami, beef tongue, smoked fish, etc. The food is all excellent. We opened with a mini potato pancakes served with apple sauce and sour cream. Really good, nice crust on the outside and soft and tasty inside. We got 4 dishes: the pastrami sandwich, vegetarian sandwich, cheeseburger & BLT. You get a very good portion size for your meal with two sides. We got the fries and coleslaw. All of us throughly enjoyed our meals and we would go back without hesitation. As most of the time the food was very good. BUT the new way of ordering is totally impersonal. The pads should go. Most of the servers have the menu memorized and cans write out an order way faster than typing in the order pads. But then I could probably do it. The pads just take away the servers interaction with client. Ordered the Rueben not ROLLED. did not come the way ordered and who serves a beer in a hot beer glass. We needed some nourishment before our Black Friday shopping. Walked in and we were instantly greeted and taken to a booth. I love Toojay's breakfast menu. We were seated for awhile before we were waited on, which I know Toojay's is not known for quick service. Once waited on, I decided to just go with the two eggs choice. Food came out pretty quick and more than enough. I love their home fried potatoes - seasoned and cooked nicely. Even with the having to wait a bit, I give Toojay's a thumbs up. The portions are Goldilock- not too big, not too small, juuuust right. The others in my party had buffalo chicken salad, Cobb salad & double cheeseburger with bacon. I had an avocado melt - different, good, but don't think I'll order it again. The double cheeseburger was Jaynormous - their moniker not mine (Pic). My 12 yr old son almost ate it all. First of all it took forever driving around the plaza to find the dang place but it was worth it. I only came in to get some dessert because its really the best place to go for cake. The girl behind the counter was helpful and I ended up getting the coconut cake. And it is seriously the best cake I've ever had! We've always had good food froM TooJay 's but this absolutely turned me off. Did I take the time and call or email? Nope but now I wish I had. Seems odd that two orders of Shepherds Pie with a month of each other were so skimpy. Called to place a catering order for a work event the day before. They were very busy for the holidays, but were still very nice and squeezed us in for a pick-up order. Our order was packaged very nicely. My co-workers loved the food. The only downfall was they forgot to add the salmon to my boss' salad. So that was a little embarrassing for me to present his meal. Upon meeting the friendly host we were warmly greeted and given a wait time which to our surprise was actually less than quoted. Our server Ren truly made our dining experience something to write about. She really tried to help us to feel at home and a part of the TooJay family. From offering suggestions on meals to just being downright friendly and relatable we really felt like this was someone that was a part of our family. She went above the natural duty of a server in every aspect of our stay by keeping our drinks full and making sure we were enjoying our meals to just extending warm regards for dining with her. She ended our time with her with a welcome to come back which is something most never do which truly set her apart.
