This is one of those places where after you've been once, you wish it had entered your life sooner! Tooley's is amazing - from the friendly service, cool vibes, and amazing food, you won't be disappointed! We ordered the corn cakes and turkey jalapeño burrito to share, and got a peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie to try later (both were very yummy with coffee - loved the salt on top of the PB). They had a wonderfully curated playlist with classic country tunes and lots of cool seating options. We enjoyed looking around/soaking in all the cool knock-knacks/decor until our food arrived - it blew us away! The corn cakes are a MUST-TRY Tucson breakfast item - the cakes are a perfect consistency and the jalapeño syrup, cholula butter and beans are the perfect components to create the ultimate bite! The turkey burrito was also so delicious and such a nice amount of food! We took half of both of our entrees home and they kept well/tasted just as yummy reheated! Tooley's is now a staple spot for us and we'll definitely be back again for all of these items and more! What a hidden gem! Delicious, unique food options and good coffee. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great spot to chill with a coffee and read a book, or have a relaxed brunch with friends, because it's really a space that you can linger and enjoy. Clean single stall bathroom but no changing table. It was an enjoyable brunch spot for us! We were impressed with the corn cakes with the unique touches like candied (or maybe dried??) jalapeños and house made jalapeño syrup. They were too spicy and it balanced nicely with the sweetness of the corn. They were out of black beans so we got a side of rice, but it was very plain. That was the only thing that made us go "meh." It was just rice with some scallions on it. Definitely worth checking out though and I hope they stick around! Bonus: there is a neighborhood walking path almost right next door, so if the weather is nice it's a quiet mile-ish loop around a green space. Wow! Happened upon this place while doing some furniture shopping and couldn't be happier. Three big reasons why I loved this place: 1. The staff was absolutely lovely. So helpful, great advice on which tacos to get and so chill. 2. The interior and exterior so cute! Love the mixture of furniture styles, books to read, and even a children's corner in the far back. 3. Holy crap the food. I got the Killer Mailman taco and the mushroom taco which both did not disappoint. -The Killer mailman was juicy and the shell just the right amount of crisp. -The mushroom taco had a wonderful Smokey flavor. -I also got the Prickly pear iced tea and not kidding one of the best iced teas I've ever had. -My partner got the enchiladas and they were full of flavor with just the right balance of cheesiness. -lastly got some bean and cheese burritos for the road and heated them up later that night and somehow they were still so tasty with black beans, peppers, and some tasty but subtle cheese. We stopped in to enjoy Posole which we viewed on their online menu. When we ordered the Posole, they didn't have any. Then I ordered calabacitas and again they didn't have it. Unfortunately their menu is not accurate even at the restaurant. They stated someone else created the menu however they don't make all of the items. So we ordered black bean soup and corn cakes. The soup came with a side of salsa, onion and cilantro. The soup was lukewarm and the broth lacked flavor. We added all the sides as well as more salt and pepper however the seasoning was still lacking. However the salsa was very tasty on its own. The corn cakes were flavorful with a nice crispy, light texture. The accompanying vinegar, pepper sauce and flavored butter enhanced the flavor. The interior atmosphere is a bit tired and the patio provides a nice outdoor option. read more

With coffee and a tortilla not including tip it was around 22 bucks. Here is limited seating inside and out, counter service and go get refills of coffee. The food is fresh and the location is great. Went in this morning for breakfast. Highly recommend literally everything. The corn cakes with the jalapeño infused syrup were insanely good!! The prickly pear tea was fresh, the quesadilla perfectly crisp and gooey, and huevos rancheros delicious. Kayleigh and Renee were awesome. I tried Tooley's Cafe after reading an article on TucsonFoodie that Tooley's had reopened after being closed for several years. This was my first time visiting this restaurant. You order at the counter and then take a seat either inside or outside on a lovely patio. I was greeted by a friendly young man who was happy to walk me through the menu and answer all of my questions. It was refreshing to encounter such a helpful cashier. He later followed up with me to make sure that everything was to my liking. Great service! I learned that Tooley's serves anything from their breakfast or lunch menus all day. I ordered the turkey tacos with a small salad, a side of rice, and both the rojo and verde salsas. I also tried the prickly pear iced tea and a chocolate chip cookie. The turkey was moist and flavorful and the housemade salsas were delightful. However, the rice was disappointing because it did not appear to be flavored by anything besides salt (and maybe I tasted some pepper and/or butter?). There is room for improvement here--perhaps the restaurant could offer either an arroz rojo or an arroz verde for more flavor. The salad was fresh, and I enjoyed it, but it was served undressed and would have benefited from some sort of herb or Mexican-inspired dressing. The prickly pear iced tea was excellent, although I would have preferred the tea brewed a little stronger. The chocolate chip cookie was delightful--the dough had just enough sweetness to pair with the high quality chocolate that Tooley's is using. I think I tasted Guittard chocolate. This was the very best chocolate chip cookie I have had in the last several years in Tucson. Terrific. Earlier reviews mentioned that the restaurant was cash-only, but my experience is that the restaurant now accepts credit cards as of July 2022. Overall, I enjoyed my healthy and great-tasting meal and I will be back to try more items from their menu. read more

This is a little, out of the main-traffic-area, place with a fairly small menu, a nice patio for eating outdoors, and a few tables inside. We were going to the vintage market across the street, so this was a handy spot for us to eat lunch. I ordered the pozole soup, which they didn't have. So I ordered two tacos that looked like they had poultry for protein. The majority of their dishes seemed to be meatless. The presentation of our plates were pretty...Mine had two street-size tacos and a salad on the plate. A small cup of salsa wasn't enough for two tacos and the salad, although the salsa was very tasty. The tacos were ok, but I wouldn't say they had outstanding flavor. There wasn't very much meat on either of them. The people behind the counter were nice and the food came to the table in a timely manner. They had steady business the entire time we were there. We saw some breakfast dishes go by, and I was wishing I'd ordered one of them instead of lunch items. read more

Immaculate vibes at Tooley's (see pictures to get a taste of why). To quote my mother, "the wonderful scent of their bathroom essential oils alone made the trip to Tooley's worth it." I would say the delicious vegan breakfast burrito, large and beautiful courtyard, and spacious and rustic interior also made it worth the trip, but that's just me. It's located in a great neighborhood and has a great range of options for meat eaters and meat abstainers alike! Would have loved to try a baked good if I weren't so baked good-out from the holidays. This place is wonderful. First the food - I had pork hash and a corn cake. Both so extremely delicious. The butter and syrup for the 'corn' pancake was such a special touch for these. I also had a lemon bar and americano. I wanted to try everything. Absolutely delicious. Next the place - this is a beautiful spot, in a little hidden neighborhood. We were out for a long urban hike on Sunday morning and decided to stop by Tooley's to see if it was open for breakfast - so glad we did! We hadn't realized that they had reopened just the day before after a couple months closed for some reworking. It wasn't a seamless experience but overall delicious and recommendable. We ordered a turkey taco, a breakfast taco, sides of rice and home fries, and a cup of drip coffee. The food was great - like the very best home cooking. It tasted fresh and wholesome, flavorful without being over-seasoned. The salsa, serving of salad veggies and fruit on the side was excellent and appreciated. We ate outside in the shade and commented on how lovely the patio was. The only constructive criticism I have is that the self-serve coffee (from a pump thermos) wasn't very hot. Excellent! We really loved visiting Barrio Viejo, and seeing Tooley's reopen. The restaurant feels like the small family restaurants I would visit in Clifton and Safford Arizona as a kid. I've lived within walking distance of Tooley's for a while now, and I'm disappointed that I waited this long to try it! I ordered an oat milk cappuccino along with their vegan lavender blueberry scone. Both were outstanding! Tooley's has an organic, homey, beautiful vibe to it. I spent a couple of hours working here and they had an awesome playlist going, doors open to take in the beautiful day, and some gorgeous natural lighting. Staff was extremely friendly. I've never been to this part of town even though I live about 2 miles up the street. It was honestly perfect, the weather, their patio filled with mismatched, metalwork furniture and decor was the perfect place to relax with my partner. The food was amazing, straight to the point and very filling. We each got the huevos- I got the divorciados and he got the rancheros, both amazing! The people behind the counter were very nice and friendly and the vibes were perfect. I would definitely recommend this place as it seemed rather quiet even though downtown was pretty busy and their food was nothing short of perfect. The Huevos Divorciados were fantastic--wonderfully seasoned and just the perfect amount of seasoning in the salsas: a little bit of spiciness but not enough to burn your lips . (If you want to kick it up a notch, hot sauce is available.) Also loved the giant scone and great big cookie! Sit inside and be cozy, or sit outside on the airy patio. Just okay for lunch. I ordered the Turkey Burrito. The burrito should include beans inside but today, no beans. I mentioned it to the cashier. She said something like "oh that's weird" without trying to make up for the problem. (Beans to go? Coffee on the house, maybe 10% off the cookie I bought? etc.?) I'm not interested in freebies. It's just that she was ditzy and unconcerned about it. The turkey had bones. We had to pull turkey pieces out of our mouths to pick them out. Yelp says Tooley's is now closed. I was there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and admittedly I'm not vegan, but the turkey (chunks of dry turkey, not spiced ground turkey) taco and the salad (just lettuce with no dressing - I had to ask for it) were something I could whip up at home, and it would be much more delicious and flavorful. The restaurant is not air-conditioned. Four people were behind the counter and no other customers were in the restaurant. The minute I walked in I wanted to walk out, because I didn't feel comfortable there between the heat, loud blowing fan, empty restaurant and four employees behind the counter trying to look busy. I didn't honor my intution, and although I'm never one to feel bad about walking out when I know I should, I didn't do it this time. I ordered. The gal at the counter couldn't describe the food or make recommendations effectively, so I threw a dart just to be nice. The food was exactly what I thought it would be - not Mexican food and missing flavor. The taco was served on an uncooked, unsoftened corn tortilla. (Restaurants, soften a tortilla before serving it. Don't take a tortilla out of a bag and make us eat it that way). I powered the "taco" and lettuce down, because it was hot and loud in there, and I was deeply sad that I hadn't trusted my intuition. While I was at Tooley's, three other people came in, read the menu and left. It doesn't vibe right. I think it's considered a Mexican restaurant and it absolutely is not. What?! How have I never been to this awesome little place? On my first visit, I went for the egg and potato breakfast burrito and an iced vanilla latte. The burrito was quite nice and came with a side of mild salsa and a slice of fruit. ...yeah. Just one sad slice of fruit. The burrito was excellent. The potatoes were very nicely cooked and it was the perfect serving size for a meal that turned out to be both breakfast and lunch. The latte? Not so much. I think the problem was that the espresso was shocked, probably from pouring it over ice. The only other disappointment was that it was difficult to find an electrical source. It's fantastic this place offers free WIFI, it just would be nice to have some extra outlets so you can get the juice necessary to power a laptop. But, in all, gorgeous location. Wonderful staff. Awesome patio. Lovely space -- and within walking distance of some cool shops. It was nice to see folks hanging out socially or hanging out with their little ones and a group that was having some sort of volunteer or work-related meeting. Nice range and good energy. Little hole-in-the-wall places like Tooley's Cafe are why I love Tucson and why I adopted my "Anti-Chain" moniker for Yelp. Tooley's is tucked into the armpit of MAST, avery cool artists-in-residence boutique, which is tucked into Tucson's little-known Lost Barrio. It's cozy, laid back, eclectic, fun and friendly. Put your order in at the counter and grab a chair by the wood stove or on the patio. On my latest visit, I was entertaining a "snowbird" from Calgary. We chatted over soy lattes, all the time forking an embarrassingly obese chocolate chip cookie. One the woman at the counter apologized for this monster being "smaller" than she usually bakes! Let's agree that the size was ample for (at least) two people. (These two felt like gluttons afterward). Foodies: I have a feeling Tooley's Cafe is never going to win any awards with you. But the menu is good in my opinion. More important to me: Tooley's is an unpretentious oasis, a big "hug" of a place right in the middle of this small city. I absolutely adore it. read more

We walked in the door and were greeted by a server. "Is this your first time here"? Yes, we answered. "We only accept cash" was her reply as she handed us a menu and told us to come to the counter to order. We were a little put off by the "cash only" welcome, but decided to give the place a try. Big mistake. Huevos Rancheros were ordered by both of us. The corn tortilla's were so tough they had to be cut with a knife. The salsa was OK--nothing to write home about and the refried beans were definitely unremarkable. Tropicana orange juice is served out of the same container you see at any grocery store. REALLY? Can't we do better than that? Coffee was acceptable. It's a funky place, which by itself has it's charm. Yet, the place looks dirty and the food is definitely not worth a return trip. This place has all the makings of being a four-star cafe, if they were a bit more efficient. The place was busy, but not so much that breakfast took over an hour to come out. If you're hungry or in a hurry, breakfast here might not be the best option. This was a bummer, since we really enjoyed the food. The corn pancakes with jalapeno syrup were an original twist on a classic, and they hit it out of the park! They were so good that it almost made up for the long wait, almost. Their Achiote Turkey Sausage was also unique and quite good. It was more like a spicy meatball but had a good spice, but not too spicy. It also had a spicy dipping sauce that went well with it. We also ordered a The Dodi burrito on their lunch menu. The burrito was good but not too memorable. The ingredients were all fresh and the tortillas were noticeably tasty. We've had better, but it was still enjoyable. For being a coffee shop, their coffee left a little to be desired. Instead of regularly brewed coffee they serve more an espresso based Cafe Americano drink. It's not bad, but some times you just want a coffee with breakfast, and it was a bit too thick and strong. The cafe au lait had a similar problem with its strength, but some additional cream and sugar fixed the problem. All-in-all this place has a lot of positives. The atmosphere is fantastic. We sat on the patio, which was charming and perfect for the weather. Plus it's a great place to start your day if you're going to poke around the Lost Barrio shopping district. The food was an overall above average experience. The coffee selection left a bit to be desired. The staff were very nice, but there was absolutely no communication regarding the status of our food. Apologetic smiles work for about the first half hour, but start having the opposite effect when things take as long as they did. The lost barrio is a beautiful little area, and the outdoor seating at Tooley's is great. The food is even better. I ordered the corn pancakes with jalepeno syrup and black beans, it was delicious. They have great eggs with chilis and special turkey sausage. The Nopales (prickly pear cactus pads) were tasty and the freshly squeezed limeade was superb. Be warned, it is cash only. The restaurant itself is cute and artistic in nature. I had the turkey quesadilla which came with a small side salad. Both items were quite good.
