Great coffee and great iced tea! Service was friendly and drinks came out quickly. Great go to place near Drexel. I'd like to try the waffles one day too they looked very good!

Wanting to get a "taste" of Philly before we hopped on our train to NYC from the 30th Street Train Station, I looked to my fellow yelpers who guided me here. This seems like a hip and trendy coffee lounge. As we waited for our "to go" order, we couldn't help but notice all the college students just relaxing with their coffees and electronic devices. Upon ordering the Berry Bomb waffle, I was told that they were out of blueberries but could substitute with strawberries. Instead I went with the Monte Cristo. My hubby got the Beginegg N Cheese. As mentioned, our order was "to go" so it was boxed and bagged perfectly along with our large coffees. Once at the train station (just a few blocks away within walking distance), we found a quiet corner to savor our choices. My hubby was a bit disappointed with his but I was happy. A yummy sweet n' savory choice with some excellent coffee. Next time, I'll try the beignet vanilla cream donut. Go check it out!

Waffle with egg and cheese (can't remember the exact name of the dish)

The food was decent. We got waffle with eggs and cheese, an almond croissant, a Beignet, matcha, and americano. I have to admit that the Beignet was good, but not what I would think of when I think Beignet (by comparison to the Beignet in New Orleans for example)

Top Hat has good coffee and even better seating. I like cafes that have comfortable seats and a good ambiance, and this place has both. Lots of UPenn students were in the coffee shop studying. I liked the music and overall vibes. I'll be back to Top Hat for another iced vanilla latte next time I'm around.

Top Hat Coffee Lounge is a great cafe for grabbing a coffee/hot drink, or waffle snack! -- Top Hat exudes the typical cafe vibes with the baristas working diligently behind the counter and free WiFi for those interested in working. They have two outdoor seating tables with varied couch/table seating indoors. We found the inside to be a little loud so we sat outside. These also can also be a bit loud depending on Walnut Street traffic and foot traffic. We tried both the sweet Bals-Y Goat and savory Angry Waffle. The wait was quick for the matcha and chai latte in take-away cups while the waffles took a bit longer (~15 minutes), which we were warned about when ordering. The timing is something to keep in mind in case you planned to grab a quick bite. The drinks were fairly standard and we enjoyed them since they were the perfect sweetness. The latte art on top was also a great aesthetic touch! Overall, we felt the waffles were of good value and size. Personally, I thought the waffles could've been softer but if you enjoy a crispier waffle, they are of a perfect texture for you! Both had good freshness and flavor of the toppings and we left full, but not stuffed. If you're looking for a place to work or have a quiet morning, Top Hat Coffee Lounge might be a bit too loud for some folks. However, if you're looking to grab a bite of a delicious waffle paired with good coffee, then I would highly recommend a visit.

I tried the (savory) Lonsa waffle which was delicious! There's definitely still a hint of sweetness with the waffle itself being sweet. (Just so you know they stop serving waffles at 2p!) I came here to get some work done and appreciated the plants, open environment and reliable wi-fi. They had a rock soundtrack that was fun to listen to. Plenty of seating, and they even have a couple of tables outdoors. I will definitely be back.

Great ambiance, crazy busy with students on the weekend, some studying and others just hanging out I got an almond croissant that disappeared very fast despite its size and my friends said their hot chocolate was very good, although it took some time to be served. The food looks so good I wish we were staying to eat!

    Angry waffle!

I've only tried their angry waffle, but it's so infuriatingly good. It's a good portion too. Lots of seating inside, seems like a great place to chill. Will have to come back when I'm free.

Im not usually picky about my cold brew but the amount of tiny ice cubes in it really watered it down. If it had been a concentrate then that might have worked in its favore but for the most part it was way to watery for me. That being said, the wifi was great and it has a good atmosphere and staff. Im sure the other coffees are good because of the recommendations we got so I don't want to take it out too much on just the cold brew. I think this would be a good place to work too.

    Matcha Latte, Plain Croissant

The servers were quite nice and this is one of the nicer cafes near Upenn (university city). There is a lot of lighting and comfortable seating so it might be nice for solo work, BUT it is quite loud so please don't be like me and take meetings from here. I ordered a matcha latte (nothing to write home about- but at the very least it had some flavour) and plain croissant. The food was mid tbh.

    Sweet N Simple Waffle

Had an enjoyable first visit to Top Hat Coffee Lounge! I ordered a regular latte and tried their Sweet N Simple waffle. The latte was robust and I enjoyed the fresh, crunchy waffle. I did find it a bit too sweet but otherwise it was a great snack to pair with the coffee. They had a really tempting seasonal menu that looked very good and would probably try out next time. Top Hat also has a good number of tables and outlets for working. They also get great sunlight, which really added to the ambiance! All the staff were incredibly warm and I will definitely be back again.

This is close to 30th street station and a great little coffee shop with plenty of options. Although their menu is not huge, they have a lots of waffles, smoothies, and coffee to offer. The waffles are on the smaller size but have great additions to them. The poached eggs on top are perfect. The creama on the avocado waffle was delicious! Most of the fare offer a sweet and savory bite! The staff was nice and were quick in ordering and delivering of food. I loved that real silverware was provided!

This place has become one of my favorite coffee places in the area. I first learned of it by attending their sister store via the TooGoodToGo app. The coffee is quality, it is local, and they offer a variety of quality options with some authentic specials that don't just feel like they are "there" to me. What they do, they do it well. Fair pricing for the quality. For Sunday mornings, they need a minimum of two staff but could probably do with 3. But the space is kind of small for 3. Probably expensive to expand but I feel this business model is likely to grow eventually. This place is "happenin" with a small but nice cozy space. Don't forget that the sign says "Life-Changing" waffles. If you don't order a waffle dish from this location, you're missing out!! 7/25/23 update P.S. Where are the Monopoly boards?

I don't think I've ever visited an an hour where I've seen it not. Often a line going from the counter, down the stairs, all the way to the bathroom. If you're looking for a quick coffee stop, don't expect to be in and out of here. That being said, they've got some kinds of seating not typical of coffee shops, including this nice long U-shaped couch seating. You'll be around with other folks reading or enjoying their joe, but it's a nice change of pace. Working-wise, wi-fi is solid. Outlets are sparse. Hard to stay a long time here. Music is at least at a tolerable level to tune out and is not usually too bumping. Staff here are quick, but won't be the friendliest. They won't be rude either. They're just trying to get through the line so don't take it personally Overall: would much prefer other places like Capital One Cafe for the reasons I visit cafes, but I can see this being a nice place for other more leisurely-natured visits!

It ended up taking about 45 minutes just to place our order, although the drinks themselves came out in around 10 minutes once we ordered. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the egg foam coffee, which was the item I was most excited to try. Instead, I ordered the Salted Brûlée Cà Phê, and it was excellent. The coffee was rich, flavorful, and tasted like a truly authentic Vietnamese iced coffee. Easily one of the better cà phê drinks I've had. The interior is beautifully designed with plenty of seating, and it seemed like a great place to hang out and catch up with friends. We would have stayed longer, but the wait took up most of our available time. Their snack menu also looked really unique, and I'd love to come back to try some of those items. A couple downsides: parking was a challenge since it's mostly street parking, and the location is a bit out of the way from Center City. It's not the easiest place to get to unless you're driving. Overall, the drinks were very good and the space was welcoming, but I don't think the experience was worth a nearly hour-long wait. I'd definitely consider coming back once the hype settles down a bit, because the coffee itself was worth trying.
