Black Turtle Coffee is remarkable in more ways than one! They have a great menu selection with satisfying bites! Their regular coffee/tea options are classic, but their seasonal drinks and blends are fantastic! Always something unique to try. It's relatively quiet, the ambiance is peaceful with music to fit the vibe. Everyone present is either in/out for takeaway or sitting peacefully at a table, so you're not distracted. The noise level is just right in terms of drinks being made, orders being prepared and the classic sound of people coming in/out of the door. The view is nice from upstairs with a window view onto to Chestnut. The staff is always so kind, engaging, helpful with recommendations and always present! Not present in just being there, but always willing to help in the moment. Most of my writing sessions and thesis deadlines were met at BTC, a forever memory at my favorite table in the window! Ha! Please visit them if you're in Philly or the area and want a great coffee shop experience!

I stopped by this location on a Saturday afternoon hoping to hang out for a bit, but unfortunately all the seats in the dining area were full. They apparently have additional seating in a downstairs area, but that was roped off during my visit. So I grabbed something to go. The menu had a nice selection of flavored syrups for lattes and a few drink flavor specials. I ordered an iced latte with strawberry syrup and a pistachio muffin. The two employees behind the counter were friendly and efficient. The employee who took my order asked if I wanted my muffin warmed, which I appreciated. I only had a brief wait, as my order was ready pretty quickly. The muffin was fresh and very tasty. My latte was properly prepared and tasted good. I definitely prefer my lattes on the sweeter end of the spectrum, and this one was not, but I still liked the mild strawberry flavor. Overall, a solid choice if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a coffee and a snack to go.

Stopped in on a cold November afternoon while waiting on our designated admission time to the Mutter Museum. Our party of 7 was looking for respite from the cold winds, a place to sip a warm cup of coffee to get rid of the chill. This coffee shop was quaint, offered limited seating upstairs and a bigger room downstairs. However, it looked like everyone was looking for a warm place to stay No seats were available, so we grabbed our coffees to go and headed back out to the wind tunnel. Coffee was good and the service was polite. I'd recommend more seating, but they have definitely maximized their space!

I've made a decision to go to coffee shops and read because trying to do it at home is proving too distracting with a cat. And a kitchen. I wanted a coffee shop, but didn't want MY coffee shop. I did a little searching and found Black Turtle. I can walk from West Philly and it looked cozy from the photos. I arrived and ordered a delicious drink called "Matcha Fairy" and settled in. Nice big windows that brought lots of natural light. The place is a bit small but I found a table. As I was reading, someone behind me was conducting a rather loud FaceTime call without even using AirPods so that was a little weird. But everything else was good. The baristas were nice, my matcha was delicious and I was able to get some reading in. I'll be back.

Getting into Philly at 8:46am via Amtrak, I found myself in desperate need to find a coffee shop with ample seating but not too much noise to take a 9:30am zoom call so that my boss would think I am still in New York ahahahaa. I rushed over to Alchemy, which is a highly rated coffee shop just down the street, but that place felt like a Doctors office and was packed with people jamming away at their laptops with the charger plugged in. Idk, vibes were off in there...some coffee shops just be doing too much these days... I had mentally bookmarked Black Turtle Coffee on the way as a viable second option, so did a quick reverse pivot like a prime Allen Iverson and started walking back that way. Upon entry, I knew this was exactly what I was looking for: Ample seating, music audible but low enough, and a handful of other people in here just posted. I was seated with my laptop open, noise canceling WH-H910N headphones on by 9:20 and CRUSHED that zoom call powered by this Black Turtle Coffee black americano. My one gripe was that $5 seemed a bit expensive for an americano, but I'm used to nyc prices so I didn't even think about that until I started typing this lmao. I just tap my apple pay and let Jesus take the wheel. I sit here, my dear reader, jamming away at my laptop with the charger plugged in just LOCKED in and vibing. Black Turtle Coffee is a fantastic place to come get some work done, write pointless food reviews, or just spend some time with yourself. We don't spend enough time with ourselves these days smh. I've been meaning to come here for a while now and this morning I finally had the opportunity to visit. I was definitely impressed by the atmosphere and the customer service. I got the cold brew float and it was okay at first sip. But once the ice cream melted, lord was it good!!! It reminded of me coffee ice cream!!! I had this coffee at around 8am it's not 2pm and I still feel a caffeine rush!!!

I am undoubtedly a coffee junkie and since moving to Philly recently, I've been very excited to try out as many of the coffeehouses here as I can. One of the first I visited, and by far my most regular coffee haunt so far is Black Turtle Coffee at the corner of Chestnut and 21st. Atmosphere 7/10 Black Turtle is a smallish coffee shop that can become a little cramped when there are a lot of people inside, though this is not unusual for coffee shops here in the city. I often do work when I go to a coffee shop, and if it weren't for the tables outside, a nice bonus, I wouldn't always find a space to work in. Otherwise, the interior is nicely and contemporarily decorated, and their cool little multi-colored turtle shell logos dot the scene. The Coffee 10/10 Black Turtle has a nice menu of delicious hot and iced coffee drinks to choose from, and I especially love their cafe mocha. This is one of the few coffeehouses I've been to here that offers coconut milk as an alternative to other milks, and that is a big bonus for me. Service 10/10 Undoubtedly the biggest reason why Black Turtle has become my virtual daily go-to for coffee is its employees. In the many times I've been there, I have yet to not be greeted with friendly smiles and conversation whenever I go in there. As someone brand new to Philadelphia that knows no one, it's become the one place in town where I almost feel as if do. Kudos to Dalton, Elliot, Kenny, Josh, and every other Black Turtle employee for spreading the sunshine! Highly recommended!

Finally stopped by for some coffee at this place. I didn't expect so much space inside for a Center City Coffee Shop but there is a basement level to the place. To be honest, the drip coffee was pretty expensive. It was like 4 bucks for drip coffee. The coffee was ok. It did taste a bit weird and different than I usually like.

In A Nutshell: -Black Turtle Coffee is a legit coffee shop in Philly. -I tried their red eye called Hammershell & it tasted really good. -It had the right amount of caffeine too. -Their sausage breakfast sandwich was super-tasty, their sauce had a nice touch of spice too. Overall, this corner spot w/ bright big windows was the perfect way to start the day.

    Iced blackberry lavender latte
    Corinne K.

I got the iced blackberry lavender latte. It was $8.65 not including tip. This was for a medium iced latte. That's crazy! Even the most expensive latte in the city is around $6-6.50. Didn't even have lids for a medium iced drink! Just bubble lids. Cannot believe I just spent $9 on this. Also, the drink was not good. Burnt espresso taste and the flavorings didn't work with a coffee. I would be down to try something different if it weren't $9 a coffee!

    Inside - note downstairs seating
    Alexander P.

I'd put BTC in the, "ultra-expensive" café category. It was $18.50 for an Iced Canadian Maple Latte and a Dirty Chai. Inside has a few tables as well as downstairs seating. Aside from paying the proximity-to-Rittenhouse tax, it's a decent cafe option depending on your needs.

It's a bit of a drive for me, but when I'm in that area, I always make a point to stop in and pick up a couple of their delicious croissant-donut pastries and marzipan or almond croissants. That's the beauty of this bakery--it's a chain, yes, but the consistency is what keeps me coming back. I have yet to be disappointed. Of course, I had to stop at this Hilton Head location--and I didn't come empty-handed. Food connects people, and bringing pastries to your host is always a winning move. I picked up three different varieties of their famous croissant-donut style pastries (similar to the well-known cronut): * Chocolate * Tiramisu * Mango And I added two large almond croissants that were beautifully filled, flaky, and indulgent.
