Solid coffee, excellent location, and great bean value! Great Bean Value sounds like the hottest new punk band from Philly. Anyway, I stop in here all the time for a little pick me up when I'm out and about with fam around Clark Park. The space can be a little cramped, but the coffee is always on point, there's outdoor seating for when weather cooperates, and again, they sell their beans and give you a free coffee along with! The bean variety (Bean Variety is the smaller pop punk group that split off of Great Bean Value in the 00s, they went corporate it was totally lame) is solid. Small batch stuff from all over Lat Am, in a variety of roast levels from blonde to espresso. They can also grind the beans for you. $16 for artisinal beans and a coffee on top is pretty good if you're the type who can stick to one or two cups a day. A neighborhood fave of mine. read more

This cute coffee shop right next to the market was a great stop on our stop to west philly. We wanted to mix it up a bit so they gave us a recommendation based on our usual and it was pretty solid. Earthy and strong with a bit of light foam. The place itself was spacious and even though it was busy, we didn't have much of a wait. The staff was pretty friendly. I really want to support local businesses. And the staff is so nice! But $5.50 for a bagel with cream cheese?! That's too much.

Overall mediocre drinks, but they get the job done with so many options, and honestly I bumped them up purely on vibes. It felt super cozy in here-- there are a good amount of tables with outlets available, and though I expected it to be super busy because of how accessible tables are, I found that it wasn't busy at all. It was the perfect combination of people sitting along with some foot traffic. Not too quiet and not too loud. I ordered a matcha latte both times I came here. The first time, the barista recommended adding strawberry syrup to it. I love a matcha strawberry, so that sounded amazing. The strawberry is quite the artificial flavor, but it did the job and paired pretty well with the matcha. It was almost like a strawberry milk with matcha. I wish the matcha had been stronger because the strawberry was quite strong. I thought the same thing when I got a vanilla matcha the next day-- just needed more matcha in there to be satisfied with it. I loved how many syrup options they had. And it wasn't just regular syrup options that are offered in other places-- I remember there being coconut and lavender just to name a couple. I've seen a few reviews say that there's no wifi, but I definitely remember logging onto wifi. They have it posted right next to their bathroom! read more

A popular, neighborhood coffee shop directly across the street from Clark Park. Indoor/outdoor seating and Wifi is available. The bathrooms are always clean, as is the rest of the place. It's not fancy inside but it doesn't have to be. Every time, I've gone in, there is always at least one table available, which is helpful. I've noticed that there is one employee that has been there for years, which is nice because it tells me that she likely is treated fairly to have stayed for so long. A local and very popular cafe with a number of locations around Philly. They have very tasty and fresh options for drinks and breakfast foods. I enjoy the muffins and coffee that they serve here. They also serve Dottie's doughnuts which is really neat and worth a short walk. They have a bunch of vegan and vegetarian options which surprisingly are very tasty as well. The hot cocoa is also good as they use honey as a sweetener which tastes amazing! There are many scattered around the city so it is a short walk typically or you may find parking for this one around Clark park. There is indoor and outdoor seating and a bathroom located inside. We enjoyed our double espresso and iced coffee, both served "for here." (All Green Line espressos are doubles.) We liked the vibe of the place enough to return the next morning for breakfast. I docked one star because my espresso fell a bit short of greatness; indeed I thought that I detected a hint of staleness in the beans. I've come here twice in the past month, once for lunch (ended up taking the food to go because there was no space) and another time for a drink. The space is tiny here, it's more enjoyable when it's not crowded. When ordering for lunch, it was awkward waiting for the order because there really isn't much room to stand without being in someone's way. I ordered the breakfast wrap but my two friends also ordered food that needed to be toasted and it took too long. The wrap itself was good, but really small....look how big my cookie was next to the burrito! The second time I came back, I was pretty sick and asked for a hot water but treated my friend to a drink here. Many of the food options are locally sourced and are typically a healthier(sounds healthier) and organic meal. Options for people of all food types can come here and get food. Vegetarian and vegan options can be found here as well as some very unique foods and drinks. I love coming here to get decent food, but am always left a little hungry afterwards. So, I love coffee shops. Few cool things about The Green Line: it's frequented by legit artists, bibliophiles, and poets - largely I imagine because this The Green Line doesn't have wifi. It's location is perfect: kiddy-corner to Clark Park, which makes it ideal for a coffee and a stroll. And I am a sucker for corner entrances - they're so welcoming! Yet, staff are not friendly nor unfriendly, the coffee is not great nor not great, the decor is pretty cool but not that cool, the food isn't bad but nothing to write home about. The Green Line is a staple and of course I'll go there when near Clark Park, but it's not a favorite. *this review is in regards to pre-COVID and intra-COVID times. Attempted coming to this coffee shop this morning to get a cold drink after being a few weeks post-op from a major surgery and forgetting a bottle of water during a walk through Clark Park with my dog. I held my quiet, 15 pound dog in my arms so I could quickly get an iced tea as I have many times before at many other coffee shops in Philly, but I was immediately told that if he wasn't a service dog that I have to get out, even for the 2 minutes it'd take to pay and walk out with a drink. I mean I can even bring my dog into the pharmacy a few blocks away without any issue! I can overlook a guy shooting up in the bathroom for 30+ minutes during a previous visit here, but I can't overlook an employee being a jerk to me, so I'll be walking a little bit further in the future to go to Starbucks or the badass new Panera. I'm totally okay with not supporting this local business anymore. read more

Much like the review by Kayla below. I had a similar experience. I understand the dogs are not allowed in coffee shops and I have smaller dogs than she has. I usually start at the door of the coffee shop waiting for down time in the shop and give the person my money in exchange for a cup of coffee. I do this all over the city, tip for the service and I have never had a problem. That way dogs don't have to come in the shop, I get my coffee and they get their sale, no laws are broken. You should never leave your dogs tied up outside anywhere especially if they are small dogs because they are very vulnerable to theft and injury. It is an irresponsible dog owner who leaves their dogs tied up outside. New to the area for the past two mornings at an off time when it's not crowded, I showed up and ordered coffee today the woman came out and said that she couldn't do this every day because it disrupted the flow of her shop and she wouldn't sell me coffee like this after today. I took the money back and said thank you I will go somewhere else. Which I did. A block away is a store called milk and Honey they were very happy to sell me a cup of coffee from the doorway and said come back anytime. There is a horticultural bump out on the street in front of the greenline shop that is open to anyone to sit in. I intended to sit there from the beginning And went back and had my coffee from another vendor. It's really very unfortunate because it sounds like they're losing customers from dog owners and walkers. read more

I found this place when I was trying to waste time before my first "Take the Lead" latin dance party last week (feel free to check my review of that as well!). It's located across from Clark Park, and is a perfect place to people watch. I stopped in for a drink and decided to have an iced tea. The girl who helped me was extremely polite and even offered her opinion on the teas they had. I went with the raspberry tea, but they get 1 star off for not informing me that it was unsweetened. The whole front half of the cafe is windows, so I sat by the window and people watched. It is a great little place with great service. :) read more

Need to take this one down just a notch. It doesn't have anything to do with The Green Line being bad (far from it). It's just that before The larger Green Line that hooks up live music opened up on Locust, this was the one to go to. But now it's pretty much second banana. But being second banana isn't necessarily a bad thing, and this Green Line shows it nicely. It still has the same cool staff, great variety of food, and well rounded selection of drinks. Of course the fact that it's across the street from Clark Park never hurts either! And even though it isn't without it's flaws (the long line during the weekend rush can be killer, it runs out of things like bagels too quickly on most days, etc.) It's still a coffeehouse that McThrill has a soft spot for. I'm not a huge fan of their bitter and watery coffee. While I appreciate that Green Line tries to appeal to a community that leans toward organic options, what is the point of that when a coffee shop doesn't get their coffee right? On the other hand, their tea and their pumpkin spice latte (offered in the fall/winter) are pretty good. Their croissants are also good, especially if you get them early in the morning, when they've been freshly delivered. As for their sandwiches, I'd stay clear out of the way. I've had their sandwiches and burritos. They are barely edible and over-priced for packaged food. For a quick bite, I'd walk down two blocks to grab a freshly-made sandwich at Milk & Honey. This location has shaded outdoor seating in the summer, overlooking Clark Park and the Farmer's market - a great place to hang out on a nice day. However, it does not have wifi and can get a bit cramped when a lot of people come in. I would prefer their 45th and Locust location as a place to study. Service here is all right. It might be worth noting that they only accept cash. read more

I've heard a lot about this place, so I'm excited that I finally got to try it. It's a cute little coffee shop a little ways off of the main Penn campus area. The area isn't so great, but the coffee shop is small-ish and intimate so it's a great environment for a low-key study session with some good coffee. I got the Iced Mocha with skim milk (I'm the only one who orders iced coffee in the 20 degree weather but I can't help myself). It was a pretty good drink, although I do wish it was a bit more chocolatey and sugary. I added extra sugar and the drink was pretty good, although I will say that $4 for the drink was a bit too expensive. I probably will come back to do work if I feel like making the trek and to snack on something/get a drink. Their assortment of baked goods looked delicious so I'll definitely want to try them in the future. read more
