We went to the Top Hat for an early dinner. We started with 3 or 4 tapas, but everything was so excellent that we kept ordering more. The ahi tuna and beef brisket were my favorite, but then for an encore we had the bacon-wrapped dates, and I have to say it's the best dish I've had at any restaurant. My husband and I brought our 9 year-old son with us, and at a lot of places when there is great food for adults, there isn't much for kids. But my son had the cheese flatbread pizza from the kids' menu, and said it was great. He really had fun eating it off the wood plank branded with the Top Hat logo, too. I really love the food here. I go here a lot, but if it's kid night I turn around and leave. Kid's night is the worst. I saw a woman changing her sons diaper on the bench across from me. I'm sure that's great if you're a parent that you can take your kids to a restaurant and let them run wild with pants full of poop and play with the other gremlins. Kids were climbing on speakers and jumping on subwoofers. I could see the sound man was losing his sh*t and had to start parenting these kids. Nice family restaurant during the day. They seem to be short on barkeep. I waited for a half hour sitting at the bar to be waited on at 1 pm. I enjoyed the meal and drink. I'm a fan. Three of us had dinner on a Friday, just before a concert. We didn't know about the concert and didn't have tickets; we only wanted dinner. Everyone was very classy and didn't make a big deal about it. They sat us and served us. We had such a great time we stayed after dinner and bought tickets to the concert. We were so happy to find this spot for lunch yesterday. The place was packed! Everything in this town of 60 some thousand people is packed because 20 some thousand people arrived for the Pearl Jam concert last night. We found a table and someone immediately came and bussed it. Our server, Meaghan was a rock star! She took our orders, then she was the bartender, took other orders, delivered food, more bartending... She was killing it! We were all beyond impressed, it was like watching something choreographed. Every time she came to our table, she represented calm and patience, in the midst of everything she was doing. She treated us as if we were the only ones there. That's a really tough balancing act! Ok, now the food: it was fantastic!! We had the zucchini pancakes, they were great! The Caesar salad was perfect! But the flatbread with the blue cheese and figs was the best! This place has it all, a really great ambience, great food, and excellent service! read more

I'm writing a review about the new and improved Top Hat which reopened recently. I've been going to this place before the remodel and didn't think much of it but it's a whole different story since they reopened. First off, they have food? SAY WHAT? Yes, that's right. The Top Hat is now a Tapas restaurant as well. I tried about 5 of the dishes and was very impressed with what they had to offer. I don't know if they have a rotating menu like the Silk Road nearby but everything on the menu looked appetizing. In terms of the decor inside, it definitely feels way more open in there. They took down the dividing wall that really opened up the seating area more. They have tables for a sit down meal as well as booths to lounge in. It's still a little loud in there but it's not too crazy. I really like the new Top Hat with my only concern being the service. Since it just opened, they'll need a little bit of time of fine tune everything. I expect them to tighten that up soon and be one hell of a place of to be in Missoula! read more

We stopped here on a whim, it was delicious! Started out with the calamari appetizer and were not disappointed. The sausage and clam pasta was perfect, and a really generous portion. My husband ordered the fish tacos and we LOVED the tots- they reminded us of latkas. Will definitely be back next time we're in Missoula. read more

Hubby and I had tapas: braised pork belly, lox, calamari, mini meatball flatbread, pepperoni flatbread. At first we thought we'd ordered too much food. But once we started tasting, we quickly devoured all of the above. I thought surely one would be a dud, but it was happily not to be! I had a Captain and Diet Coke as well as their Jimi Hendrix. Both were excellent. We arrived at 8:30 on a Friday, which was just perfect for hitting dinner while the family-friendly segment headed out but before the music started and the dance floor filled. If we wanted to stay for music, we were in a prime spot for watching/dancing. But alas, not this night. Next time! The remodel is great with plenty of room for dancing. Not for everyone every night, but def something for everyone in the mic. Drinks/bar...here's where they lose me. I am NOT into overly strong drinks, so don't get me wrong. A cocktail has a recipe and that's the ratio of alcohol to mixers it requires and nuff said. But the White Russian I was served was nothing but milk. Seriously. If there was vodka or Kahlua anywhere near my glass or even in the building when they made my drink, then I'll eat that top hat. Costs about a dime a drink to pour Top Hat, don't be afraid to give the customer their money's worth. read more

Missoula is lucky to have this place! I went to the Top Hat twice during my brief visit to Missoula and was really impressed on all levels. The atmosphere is very nice and exceeds that of venues in much bigger cities. I love the layout and especially how they have a raised area on the right which creates an excellent sightline for a short person like myself. The crowd was totally immersed in the music both nights and the bands (which came from Jamaica and New York respectively) were clearly enamored with Missoula's vibe. The staff was all friendly and laid back. The drinks at the bar were generous and affordable. This place rocks! read more

She would finish half a task and then visit every other table before coming back to finish and we wound up waiting for drinks for a half hour as well as waiting a long time for the check. This is more a review on the place as a music venue than a food establishment. Being from CA and having so many live entertainment options locally, I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into this venue. $15 ticket to get in wasn't unreasonable. I like to support small acts, so even if the sound isn't spectacular, I like to still come out and support artists. I do feel bad for artists though, because club gigs can get tough to deal with sound wise. This night wasn't unfamiliar. The lead singer was often not heard, and the violin she played as a lead instrument was also often lost in the mix. It wasn't terrible, it just felt like it was drums and bass in my face all night long. I get it, some nights the sound guy has a rough night. Some times, the club sound guy just sucks. Either way, I'd have to see a few more shows to make a final judgement. But for a mid-size club in a downtown scene, I enjoyed myself. read more

Amazing tapas, try the flatbread! I always look forward to their seasonal menu. There's always so many different foods to try. Every Friday they have a family friendly night with music. If you get there any later than 5:30 you will not get a table or even a seat at the bar, it's very crowded & loud. If you go there on a Friday (unless it's later than 9pm) I suggest you get there by 5pm so you can get a spot. I believe they have a happy hour starting at 3 or 4pm. Half price flat breads & discounted local brews. Can't go wrong with that! In the fall during the NFL football season, every Sunday The Top Hat will play the Packers games on a huge projection screen. They have a Wisconsin themed menu for Packers games- including cheese curds! Being a Wisconsinite myself, I thoroughly enjoy this! GO PACK GO! Did one of their pods which was cool. The Bibimbap was good but the meat was a little tough. The brussels were good but a little vinegary and the cheese wasnt melted, just chunks. Korean fried chicken was not good, thick gooey sauce that was just overkill. We tried to scrape some of it off but it was really a mess. The fried ch. sandwich was very good but the fries were only warmish. The ranch with a "kick" was tastless, only a little better was the garlic aioli, they really need to work on their sauces. read more

Since they renovated the inside is really nice. I must compliment the cook because he comes up with the best combinations! Good fresh food cooked amazingly well. The only drawback is the service, and it's so bad it takes off two stars. Inattentive, sloppy, just bad. Twice I've been delivered the wrong plate of food with barely a sorry. I would suggest an early dinner because as it gets later they are gearing up for the live music shows and you may be told you can no longer order food. If you already have food you will definately be forgotten or hustled out quickly. Friday's is family night which is great if you have small kids and need a night out. However if you dislike ear destroying decibals of high pitched screams and other people's crotch goblins literally running around/over/into you then avoid Friday night like the plague! The Top Hat came highly recommended so we were excited to try it while visiting Missoula. The food was good but not great. My Thai red curry was overpowered with spice (I ordered mild) and didn't have enough rice in proportion to the sauce. There were also very few vegetables. We also sat at our table for an hour before our appetizer came. I frankly believe someone messed up and didn't put it in when we ordered it. The waitress took it off the bill which was appreciated. I have always enjoyed the Top Hat. I enjoy the vegetarian options for food, and the atmosphere. Yesterday I decided to take my boys for their first time. They each ordered a kids meal with a side of green apple. One of them made the remark, "I hope they give us a decent amount of apple, like at least a quarter of an apple." I looked at the menu and a side is $2, so I said "Well, a kids' side is $2, so I imagine it will be a decent amount." Nope. Their meals arrived and the apples looked more like a garnish than a side. Not only did they receive maybe four sliver slices of apples, they had been soaked in lemon juice to keep them fresh. Their 1/20th of an apple was basically inedible. Had the ordered fries, would they have only received just three French fries? My recommendation to TH - apples are easy to cut in seconds. Get an apple cutter and cut them fresh and give the kids at least a quarter of an apple if it's truly a side and not just a garnish. read more
