Newer menu which is good (not great), service is decent (not great), and the vibe is usually happening in the evenings. A very nice venue with ample room for music, food and fun. I am hesitant to support the top hat because of their refusal to accommodate the local alternative music scene. Yes, they have a few local blue grass bands sometimes but the music scene has lost 3 venues this year. There is nowhere for 18 and under people to see shows and nowhere for bands who don't fit the top hat's criteria to play. Until they begin supporting more than just a fraction of the community's musical preferences, I will not be going there. read more

I love the this place, the venue is beautiful, the food is amazing, but what I experience 9 out of ten times and many others have complained about is the service. I feel invisible when I eat there. I can name 2 or 3 great servers, and maybe 2 bartenders that actually acknowledge my presence when I am there. It's not that it's even busy when this happens. I get it, I am also in this business. But customer service is not their fortay, and it drives me crazy! I am always telling people to go there, because I adore the chef, and the food and location, but get the same response. The service sucks! Please talk to these girls, they are all cute, but lack greatly in their people skills, also, I understand this may not be their career, but it is their job to provide their best when they are working. read more

Their food is excellent. Very flavorful and the quality was refreshing. However I felt the portions were small for the price. We had their sirlion and we ordered med rare and I'd have to say it came out rare. But I don't mind rare so it was delicious and I would order it again. I have eaten here more than a dozen times and always left more than happy. For the price you pay you're getting very high quality food. It's rare to find a place serving grass feed beef for $11 and it's absolutely delicious. They don't generally ask how you want it so if you don't like pink in the middle, then speak up. I don't think there is a single thing on their menu that I wasn't impressed with. The drinks will knock your socks off too. The flatbreads are also awesome, especially the bacon, date, blue cheese. BLUF: I would eat here again. The food was good. The drink selection was large and varied, accommodating a multitude of tastes. Our waitress was polite and helpful, and there was a free, local live band performing (Mudslide Charley?). First, I think the description of this restaurant as serving tapas is wrong. They serve appetizers, but their entrees are full-sized portions. We had the fish tacos, Cuban sandwich with homemade tater tots, edamame, and calamari. The Cuban and the fish tacos were good; they were cooked properly, flavorful, the cuban's bread was properly pressed and toasted, the the fish was lightly battered without any hint of fishiness. The only issue was with the tater tots. They would best be described as fried mashed-potato balls. It was a good idea, but I found myself disliking the mushy interior texture when I expected something more crisp. The calamari was pretty good, although they were different from our typical experience. That is, most of the calamari was of uniform size and color (just the tentacles perhaps?) where we are used to sometimes a full squid, tentacles, and circles. Not a big deal, just different. I liked the dip as well. Having spent about five years between east Asia and Hawaii, I love edamame, and the spices they used for it were great. It was definitely a good choice. Next, the drinks. The cocktail menu was mercifully devoid of drinks with Malibu, blue Curaçao, and hurricane-like cocktails... I loved the liberal use of ingredients like jalapeño, cilantro, cucumber, mint, and locally distilled spirits. I loved that I didn't have to beg the bartender not to use less sour or syrup. Awesome! The drinks were all unique and well-crafted. However, my one suggestion would be to actually add a *hint* of sweetness back to the drink. The three cocktails we had tasted like there was zero syrup used. Let's not forget cocktails are supposed to consist of spirits, water, bitters, and sugar. I think it would take a slight edge off the otherwise vegetal taste and maybe enhance those flavors. Otherwise, it had a large scotch menu ( I went for the Bowmore 15) and a large beer menu both bottles and on tap. Bottom line, it was an all-around four-star experience with good food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. read more

Went to one of my favorite spots, the Top Hat last night for a great Wallin' Jennys show. Really appreciate the chance to see good music in a place with good sound and acoustics, not the average bar sound. Service is always great, and drinks are well priced. Very disappointing. Loved the lunch we had a couple of weeks ago and were looking forward to the new menu and a nice dinner last night - never happened. We arrived to find a fundraiser (Indian Runner film) in progress and asked the host if the event would impact the service/wait time/etc..., he assured us that the fundraiser's food was mostly pre-prepared and that it wouldn't impact us at all. Unfortunately, he was mistaken. Our server came quickly for a drink order, and upon returning with our waters asked if we'd decided on anything, at which point I advised her we were both really hungry and asked her to start two dishes right away and come back in a bit to get more of our order. The server returned empty-handed five minutes later and asked if we'd "decided on anything else," at which point we ordered two more dishes and off she went. Ten minutes later (honestly) our server, still empty-handed, asked if "we'd decided on anything else!" I looked forlornly at my clean, white plate and responded that we hadn't had "anything" yet, so how could we want "anything else?" She walked off without comprehending. At 25 minutes (I swear) we got up to leave, half-empty waters and gleaming clean plates the only evidence of our having been there. I went to tell the host we were done waiting and were leaving, while the STILL EMPTY-HANDED server arrived and asked why we were going, assuring us that our food was coming right out - she didn't even have the sense to just apologize and let us leave - she had to make my girlfriend as uncomfortable as possible in an attempt to salvage the situation. Totally un-cool. So, the food there might be good (we haven't sampled the new menu yet,) but the service is beyond deplorable. The venue seems too concerned with its events at night to adequately manage it's restaurant. I suggest lunch if you're set on going - it seems to be a more food-centric. read more

Visiting my niece and after a hike up Blue Mountain we needed a cold beer. It was happy hour, so we not onoy had beer but an assortment of food from the happy hour menu. The beer was cold and wonderful...all the local beers I was told. The food was excellent, and since it was family Friday, we were treated to a band made up of junior high girls who had written their own songs! This is one of my favorite places to eat in town. Great food, great beer selection and above average service. As to the person complaining about food being brought out at different times, it's a Tapas place. That's how tapas are served. You each pick out a few things and then you share them with the table. You don't each get your own individual plate. They bring out a few things, you all eat those and then they bring out more. The food is fanatic. They have one of the best vegetarian menus in town, and their meat and seafood are fantastic, as well. They switch up the menu every season so nothing gets old, but many of the favorites stay throughout the year (like the brussel sprouts and calamari). It's a great place to go with a group of friends, order a bunch of food and share everything around the table. I get the brussel sprouts almost every time I go in. The pepperoni flat-bread was also a favorite before I stopped eating meat. Really, you can't go wrong here. They also have the best happy hour in town! They have a selection from their main menu available for $4 a piece, and draft beer for just $2.75. And that's not even mentioning the music venue. Best music venue in the state, hands down! The amount of great music they get coming through is incredible. I must attend 4 or 5 concerts there a month, both local and nationally touring artists. They have something going on every night of the week. read more

Service was better than great, all staff was pleasant and friendly. The menu seemed well-rounded, however I ordered poorly. The fries were great, I sampled both the chipotle ketchup and lil mama's ranch, both of which were unique dipping sauces that I recommend trying! The loaded potato soup of the day was my favorite of the dishes I tried with good flavor and consistency. Then I confused myself and ordered the panzenella or something like that thinking that it was a salad with croutons and veggies because it reads "torn bread, tomatoes, cucumbers" etc. but really it is JUST torn bread and veggies, no lettuce. And it wasn't all that impressive, but I acknowledge that that was my mistake reading the menu! All around a good experience :) read more

My husband and I used to come here years ago when this place was a sweet dive bar. We finally stopped in for dinner since the renovation. It was during their Friday family night gig. The service was excellent. They were so polite and helpful. The music sounded great and the kids loved the tunes. My husband and I enjoyed our burgers and local beer! A win for everyone. read more

The remodel really helped this place out. You have to go for the food, such a good mix for anyone in your group. The brussels sprouts appetizer is a must. TRUST ME! I've fought for the Top Hat's reputation ever since it re-opened with an incredible new menu. Our first visit had exception service with the sweetest waitress I think I've ever had. The food was high quality, creative, and delicious. Ever since that first visit, we've hoped that our subsequent ones would be the same, but they have fallen far short of our expectations. When we have family and friends in town we try to get to the Top Hat, but we've been turned away more than once because they were preparing for a ticketed event or concert. Since then, I never feel confident to sporadically stop by the Top Hat for dinner. I feel compelled to call and double check that they're still open and serving food. A few weeks ago was the biggest disappointment. We finally had a chance to visit the Top Hat with friends for dinner. When our waitress "greeted" us, she told us she would have to kick us out at 8:00 sharp if we weren't done with our meal because they had a sold out concert. She proceeded to harass us throughout our entire meal, reminding us more than four times that we needed to leave even as we were still eating our dinner. She was only polite to us after we tipped her. Lastly, it should be noted that each time we've eaten at the Top Hat since our first visit of the re-opened restaurant that there has been a gradual decrease in quality of food (from the ingredients used to the creativity of the dish translating from paper to reality). I gave the Top Hat many chances to restore my initial WOW experience, but I just can't advocate for them anymore. I'm sure I'll still go there from time to time as they do have some good staple tapas, but they've lost my high esteem when they sacrificed reliability of service, poor attitude of waitstaff, and let their standards in quality of their dishes slip. read more

Went in for the first time and the server was rude, she talked down to us and acted like we were an annoyance to her by sitting in her section. The food was good; we went in for lunch. ALOT of bread though, seemed like a waste. Second time was not much better, went in with a larger group of people and our waitress did not seem capable of handling the situation at hand. And in her inability she was very condescending. To add to the lack of service none of our food came out at the same time, it instead trickled out of the kitchen. To be polite some of us waited till everyone got their food, that was a mistake...after a long wait we finally were all able to eat something but half of our food was ice cold from waiting on everything to arrive. read more

We recently attended the James McMurtry show. Arrived early and enjoyed a very good, reasonably priced light dinner. Staff was friendly and attentive. I'm an old man, been to a lot of shows. This one was outstanding; great atmosphere, sound system. I need to eat here more often. read more

Really disappointed with no food at the Missoula Dancing with the Stars. A sold out show, doors at 5, show at 6:30 and no food?! Lots of us were pretty pissed. Next time offer a limited menu of easy to eat appetizers. Even if it's a fund raiser, think of your reputation as being a great place to eat and watch a show. read more

My experience involved terrible service! I sat at the bar and waited for 5 minutes to be acknowledged. Never happened as the guy bartenders were busy talking to women on the end of the bar and they weren't busy. Sad because the food is good. But when you get carded at the door and at the bar AND then the security guys drag you out of the crowd by your arm it's never a good experience. I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at any venue I have ever been to. I went to see Space Jesus perform. While I was there I was extremely anxious and got sick in the restroom. I got kicked out, which is 100% understandable. I did not fight it. I was sober and completely coherent. I understood and I was leaving but I needed to find my friends. Need I remind you, I was just in a body suit, basically wearing nothing and it was well under 30° outside. The security guard made it basically impossible for me to get my keys, my phone, basically everything I needed to get somewhere safe. She told me if I didn't leave I would be getting arrested. She was screaming at me telling me "I don't give a f**k if you're safe you need to leave." Still standing in the pouring rain, freezing, I was just trying to get my stuff so I could at least get a hold of a friend. I have never felt so unsafe and disrespected in my entire life. Who just lets a 22 year old girl walk around downtown at night KNOWING they're under dressed and not safe by any means possible. She created that unsafe environment. If something would've happened to me that would have been on the Top Hat. I could keep going on and on about how utterly messed up the whole situation was that she created when she could have just helped me find my friends and get my stuff so I could safely go home. I will be talking to a manager. There was no reason for that. I will NEVER return to the Top Hat. HORRIBLE employees. read more

We stopped into the Top Hat on a Monday night, to our surprise it was pretty busy. Apparently Monday night is Dead Night (Grateful Dead)... so, the music was great and the crowd was too. Unfortunately we had a seat at the bar and were served by Troy... He must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed- he was in a mood, and not a good one. We felt like we were putting him out by asking for a glass of wine and a beer-- oh wait, he was bartending, that's supposed to be part of his job!!! Oh my, he was not happy.... mind you, we were pleasant, non-demanding customers, sitting on bar stools, waiting patiently and being nice to all. What was his problem???? Regardless, no matter his problem, leave it at home next time! He was awful, we were intimidated by him, afraid that we were putting him out by asking him to do his job, what's up with that? Next time we go there, and we go a lot, we'll be wary of him. He made our night stand out and not in a good way!!! read more

Hi this posting is for the Wilma theatre (same operation). Very disappointed that they have zero recycling for the tons of aluminum and plastic cranked out through their bars, all goes to garbage, but they see their way clear to "wand" every single person on the way in. One employee claimed "security against violence" another said it was for "smugglers of flasks and cans". Probably the latter. Profit motive, not safety... read more

I'm reviewing the lunch service here, not the club. The room is great; dark wood, huge old fashioned bar, large windows - feels ilke a big city place. There's a nice selection of apps, sandwiches, and salads. The food was good, though the spiced walnuts in my salad were candied and too sweet. The sandwiches are not the two-fisted type found at Tamarack and Iron Horse, but I welcome not having to face something the size of a car battery at lunch.
