[[HIGHLIGHT]]At first, I was a bit skeptical upon walking in because there were no Asian customers, despite the restaurant being pretty busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We originally wanted to go to Pho 888 since we read that a lot of locals go there, but it was closed. But Top Pho was actually pretty decent, though it's no where near as good as the pho in California. First, the broth wasn't very rich, but it was made tasty by adding MSG. The meat wasn't dry, but the quality wasn't there. Egg rolls were pretty crispy, but didn't have a lot of flavor from aromatics. The noodles were cooked really well, they had a good bite and bounce to them as opposed to a lot of other places either falling apart due to over boiling or being too chewy. The soup lacks a deep flavor and is on the lighter side. It was seasoned well but the lack of depth in the soups profile was evident. I know some people prefer lighter soups but I am not one of them. The meat was also pretty good. The meats that were supposed to have a layer of fat all had signs that they were cut right and the rare steak tasted exactly like how it's supposed to. One of the guys working was incredibly rude in every remark or answer, and unhelpful, and he acted like he didn't want to be working there. He made me feel like he didn't care about me, and even like he hated his customers and job. The other guy was really nice and accommodating. The tap water there tastes bad or polluted - like machine oil- which shouldn't really take them down a star since this is Aurora, and we are close to other pollutants. Ambiance is a 7/10... it's kind of dirty and cheap, but some considerable effort was done when it was all put together, it's fine. The pho was really good though! My bill was a little bit on the expensive side for one small bowl of pho and a juice. I must say, my experience there was quite mixed. I don't know if it was a cultural barrier or just outright that first man being disingenuous with me. I will add... some pho places when you ask for raw steak it comes out raw and they bring it on a plate of its own and let you put it in... not this one. This place is in a pretty unfashionable part of East Colfax, so you hipsters can say you were here before it was cool. Very basic no frills vibe upon seating. Clean. Staff was very friendly. The place filled up pretty quickly after we got here, and it was a nice cross section of NW Aurora, my hood. Lots of families out for a nice meal and just an overall welcoming vibe. I got the pho with the "spicy meat" which was strips of beef that tasted like they'd maybe been smoked and definitely grilled as well from the grill marks. (They had a nice bbq-esque flavor.) Now, usually the meat is not the big highlight of pho for me. Here, wow. Is it! I got the medium, and the serving size wasn't laughably large on meat or sides like you get at some places, but I did waddle out a very fat and happy customer, broth sloshing around my very sated belly. (GF got one of the noodle bowls, also with the spicy beef. She was very happy with the flavor of the meat as well (and she's honestly far more discerning than me) and thought it was well balanced with ingredients and lots of good veggies.) Got the spring rolls and egg rolls as an app, and both were really tasty. I'm not usually a fan of the clear Vietnamese style spring rolls, but these were really good. Think we got out of here for two, with apps, mains, tip, and just some waters for right at $50. I will be back. Don't know what THE Top Pho spot in town is, but Top Pho is on my personal shortlist now. read more

The best Vietnamese restaurants in Denver are on Federal Blvd in Southwest Denver but Top Pho brings solid options to the east side of town. They serve quality food for cheap in a no frills pay-at-the-counter-environment. Not surprising with the name Top Pho, their standout dish is pho. The broth is especially flavorful and the portions are generous. The small size (~$10) is perfect for a warming lunch on a cold day. Get a medium or large if you want something more substantial. They do a great marinated beef pho (#25)--the beef is really tender! The steamed rice plates and rice noodle bowls are also tasty and a huge portion of food. My favorite is the #51 steamed rice plate with grilled marinated pork and egg rolls. The grilled pork has a nice charred flavor that is delicious with the sweet nuoc cham! There's a reason this place is so popular among all the nearby hospital staff! read more

Driving cross country and needed to stop for dinner. Raining amd thunderstorms so we researched Pho on Yelp and as a result chose Top Pho. Ordered a small size chicken and brisket we both had left overs even with smalls. The Pho was spot on. Really tasty broth. It was really busy almost all tables were full. While visiting my family in Denver on a cold snowy spring day, I decided to pick up some pho and used Yelp to vet this place as the closest nearby. My stepmom and my dad hadn't had this before so I kept it pretty mundane and got the pho chay and pho ga and them some noodles, just in case. They had a blast putting things together and trying them out. The chicken pho was pretty good. The broth definitely had good flavor. The veggie pho had great quality of veggies in it but the broth was just mediocre. And I know from pho places in New Orleans, that veggie and vegan broths can be fire so don't tell me that is just because it was veggie. They use good quality noodles that get yummy and unsticky after time in the warm broth. And the pickled carrot toping for the noodles was delish as well.
