Can I just say one thing? Yaaaassss to this place for sure. I love Top Pot from the bottom of my heart. It's not overly sweet and not too fluffy where you can't even feel where you're biting. Top Pot has a great balance to it and they look so pretty and well done. This top pot is the first and original top pot store. It's where it all started, so it's a gem to check out. I'm a huge fan of the bavarian cream donut. mmmmm. It's very kid-friendly, I swear that this is the one place school moms go to in the morning to meet up with other moms and get coffee. haha. How do you review a donut house if you've only been there once? Can you even review a donut house if you've only had one donut from their extensive menu? This is tough. I've only been here once and I've only had one donut. Be that as it may, here goes. I had the Raspberry Chocolate Cake donut. It was good. The donut was soft. I couldn't taste the Raspberry maybe because the chocolate was to overpowering. The donut was a little too sweet for my taste. After ordering, I was told by a friend that the signature donut at Top Pot is the glazed donut. I guess I'll have to come back to try more of their donuts and that oh so special glazed donut their known for. Perhaps then, will my review be more accurate. I did like the establishment. Nice decor and there is a little parking lot which was convenient but there is ample street parking nearby. read more

I love having more than one choice. I love Top Pot, and had initially been introduced to the location in downtown. When I accidentally found the one in Queen Anne, they clued me into the one closer to me near the U-District. I've gone twice early in the morning to get doughnuts for my staff, and it's brought them so much joy and me so much productivity from them. Staff is friendly, location reminds me of the doughnut shops when I was growing up, and the pastries are everything Top Pot promises. read more

YUM! I agree about the staff being a bit boring. But really I came for the doughnuts, and the staff isn't rude or anything, so I don't think it's a problem. The dough isn't heavy and greasy like Krispy Kreme and not too dull either. Just the right amount of simple sweetness. I tried the Sandcastle (a chocolate cake doughnut with cinnamon sugar) which was just my style. And my mister tried the Bavarian Crème Bismark which was to die for! *Drool* the filling was amazing! I've also had the Lemon Creme - again, simple dough, amazing filling. Their coffee is also pretty good too. Never disappoints. We have been going to Top Pot Donuts for years... since it opened. Every weekend during football season we buy the "Fan" Donuts. They are better known as the "Seahawk 12" Donuts. They used to have a deal 12 for $12. They changed it recently to 1.29/donut of the "Fan" Donuts. The last two weeks the employees haven't figured out regular math. 12 Donuts x 1.29 = $15.48. However; they claim that a dozen donuts cost 19.99. Why not buy individual donuts then? Maybe I'll do that next time? read more

Nom Nom Nom Nom ....doughnuts good. Do I even need to elaborate on the doughnuts? Oh.So.Good. Love the retro gas station conversion into a hip but cozy spot. The seating area lined with book shelves and natural light is great. Good selection of newspapers and free press laying about to enjoy while you slurp your favorite coffee and devour a Top Pot treat. Free wifi is a plus, but I hate to think how many doghnuts I could eat in a day if I sat there working! The staff is five stars in my experience. Fast, friendly, funny and seem to enjoy their day. Can I blame them? If my work space was filled with the smell of fresh donuts and coffee, perhaps I would be a bit more chill-tastic during the day as well and give off that 'good day' vibe. Top Pot sells my kind of doughnuts. They're substantial without being complete sugar bombs, and they come in a million varieties. I always smile when I see the Roosevelt vs. Nathan Hale sprinkle donuts. My favorites are the glazed old fashioned and the raspberry glazed old fashioned. Beware that some doughnuts are a touch too heavy on the glaze.. We come here close to every week and have built up pretty good report with the employees, but a few of the newest ones seem a bit too hipper-than-thou for my taste. The seating is usually just fine, unless you arrive too late on a Sunday morning and have to deal with a bunch of kid-laden families arriving after church. I love the architecture of the place -- tons of books lining the seating area, 50's style, complete with palm trees and aluminum furniture outside. There's free wi-fi and tons of plugs for laptops. And why has no one mentioned how tasty their coyote sandwich is? If I've spent my morning working with a doughnut or two at my computer, I usually buy one on my way out. Not the best on the planet, but it has just the right amount of spice and texture. read more

My cousin Grant raved about the doughnuts here and how lucky we were to live so close by (just down the street). We finally got around to trying some last week. We bought an assortment of donuts since we were bringing them to a dinner for desert. I tried the cake donut with cinnamon and sugar, and a raspberry yeast donut. I'm typically not a fan of cake donut (they're just too dense for my taste), but this donut was really good. The raspberry topping on the yeast donut was amazing, not too sweet, I loved it. The Top Pot on 35th is essentially a nanny fest on weekday mornings. I swear it is also the headquarters for Seattle's biggest goldendoodle meetup group. That is all I ever see at the 35th Ave Top Pot. All that aside, they still know how to churn out some quality doughnuts. Came here with a friend later in afternoon so by the time we got their they had a very limited supply of donuts. I don't eat a lot of donuts but I did enjoy top pot. You can tell that the donuts were fresh. However I do think that for donuts they are way over prised. As far as service I would say that the staff was nice and friendly. read more

This place is so amazing, I had to sign up for yelp to post a review. I haven't had a doughnut this good since I was a kid, growing up in Maine. Every aspect of Top Pot is appealing: 1. Great parking setup considering it is one of many businesses tucked in amongst homes. 2. The shop is quiet and has pleasant energy for reading a book or sitting down with your laptop to do a bit of work. 3. The coffee is delicious! (Too many bakeries focus solely on the pastries and just serve 'okay' coffee) 4. The employees are friendly and helpful! 5. Most important of all, the doughnuts are FANTASTIC! If you love jelly doughnuts, go in and order their 'bismark'/raspberry jelly doughnut. Not only is it tasty, but there is plenty of jelly in the center. YUM!!! We were just cruising neighborhoods when we passed Top Pot and decided to swing in. So worth it! The doughnuts are enormous, but better than that--they are so good! The apple fritter was awesome!!! I think the maple bar was too big (is that possible??) And the Lemon lady thing was so delicious. We got a dozen and the group report was: not a single bad one in the entire variety we acquired. I do love Krispy Kreme, but this is not KK. These doughnuts are more substantial. I was just here this morning and I am a fan. I can't write an extensive review but i can speak of the apple fritter I had. The service was quick and friendly. The apple fritter was good, I also had a bite of my friends maple bar and that was tasty. The coffee was good as well. The atmosphere is really nice and pleasant. A great place to have a coffee and treat with your newspaper or family. There was also space to bring your homework and study. I will be going back to try other goodies on the menu! read more

I discovered Top Pot not even two months ago and now, I can't get enough. My jeans don't fit anymore! AHH! (Kidding, they still fit at time of press) When I first came in on President's Day, they had a pretty nice selection of doughnuts, given the day and the fact I came in the evening. When I saw the world's largest maple bar tucked away on the second shelf, I nearly fainted with joy. I love maple bars. So I had one of those, along with their special raised doughnuts in honor of President's Day. It was overflowing with vanilla frosting, touting the largest amount of sprinkles ever put on a doughnut, and sporting a cute little American flag edible decoration. The vanilla doughnut might be my favorite concoction of theirs because it was sweet and I love sweet. And sprinkles. Top Pot has a large variety of doughnuts, ranging from old fashioned, to cake, and to raised. The cinnamon sugar raised doughnut is my next favorite raised doughnut. They never seem to have vanilla doughnuts anymore, to my dismay. So I settle for cinnamon sugar. The doughnut is so squishy soft, it practically melts in your mouth. Even the cinnamon sugar old fashioned is amazing. You know what, what isn't amazing about this place? The apple fritters are yummy and fresh, the maple glazed old fashion was sent to Earth by some doughnut God, the sand castle is super cool, and all their little pink-tinged doughnuts bowl my sister over. But I can tell you some things aren't as amazing as you would like to think. (Hence the four stars) Sometimes their selection of doughnuts is terrible. Even if you go in early on in the day. And their drinks aren't the best. My sister didn't enjoy the latte she had and their chai was too spicy and not refreshing for my taste. Their tea is good, at least. I've heard their filter coffee is good. Also, the prices make me cringe in horror. But, it's worth it if you go every once and awhile. The service is usually good. The girls are always friendly. The guys can be hard to communicate with. They don't appreciate jokes. Or any form of interpersonal communication. (Their loss!) I love the location, despite the fact parking is tricky. I'd heard so much about Top Pot Donuts and saw this shop on the way to the UW, so we stopped in. My son got an eggnog donut and I got a chocolate cake donut with cinnamon sugar covering. The eggnog donut was very true-to-flavor, but almost excruciatingly sweet. The cake donut was better, fresh, but just as good as any other fresh donut place. They have this donut called the "Chocolate Feather Boa", which is a regular cake donut, covered in chocolate on top, and then with shredded coconut. They also have the "Pink Feather Boa", but I'm a chocolate fan and haven't tried it. You can only find these early in the day because they sell out probably faster than any other donut there! The ambiance is wonderful! Every time that I've been there, there has been at least one person working on their laptop. Can't remember if there is free wifi or if people are on batteries...probably wifi. I love sitting and sipping with a friend and having a quiet conversation. Patterned stone floor, and many filled bookcases. Pull one down to read - each table has a nightstand-style lamp. There are quite a few tables and chairs, that together with the bookcases are varnished to a shine, and reminiscent of a school library.. (I heard that the bookcases and perhaps the books were salvaged from a school.) For coffee, they have a punch card. There are 1-2 TALL palm trees out front and a covered patio. And this place has a water bowl for Fido out front! This location used to be a garage....my Mom and I took the family car there for servicing for many years. The garage and the donut shop were/are excellent additions to the Wedgwood family. When the LARGE chain coffee shop considered moving into the neighborhood several years ago, this Top Pot was one of several in the neighborhood that all banded together to object, saying that coffee from the independent coffee houses was better.... Hmm.. donuts... I like this little neighborhood donut shop. There is a huge, tasty selection of donuts. The raised donuts are nice, moist and fluffy. The lattes and coffee are okay. The special lattes are very sugary and come lukewarm sometimes. One time I asked for a soy Fall Warmer latte and the cashier didn't tell the barista b/c she poured milk and luckily noticed so I could stop her. I'm very allergic to milk so this could've been a disaster. Besides that the service is decent (some nicer than others). I especially like the bavarian cream donut with chocolate frosting. My partner likes the raised cinnamon sugar (he can't tell there is cinnamon on it) and the glazed donuts. I've brought the donuts to parties with kids and they are a hit. The shop isn't very big but there's a little area to sit and meet up with friends or bring your little ones. It's a popular weekend morning spot and it seems every kid in the neighborhood is there. They also have outdoor seating and a dog water bowl to sit out there with your dog. I wish they had compostable cup lids, cups and straws. They also do not have glass plates and mugs at this location and give you disposable everything even if you are eating in. read more

The donuts are okay - I have definately had better. The thing is - you have to keep the oil at a hotter temp so the donuts don't become toooo saturated with said oil. When it comes to Seattle and food, there are some things you can trust the locals on. If a Seattlite is giving you advice about seafood, it's probably sound. A fruit dish (particularly one involving either cherries or apples)? Again, go ahead and take their word for it. You get the idea. Unfortunately, there are culinary things that you can never take a Seattlite's word on any more than you can trust a promise from Lando Calrissian, and for which they have no clue about. Tex-Mex food is a shining example. The locals here rave about this place or that, but there's not a good one to be found in this city - you need a smuggler's ship, a working hyperdrive engine, and a starmap to find one in relation to this city. A Seattlite wouldn't know a good barbecue joint if it landed on their jet ski. Fortunately, if you FEED them good barbecue, they can usually identify it, so there's that. And doughnuts. It's not entirely their faults, they're brought up to believe certain local icons are amazing when they're really average at best. I'm not trying to be cold here, but I was always taught at the Jedi Academy to tell the truth. Of course, I killed all of them, so perhaps I'm not the best beacon of their ideals. But I've always told the truth about it! Such is the case with Top Pot (and, while we're at it, the Daily Dozen). The locals rave about it, call them the best doughnuts ever. Some even go so far as to commit the sacrilege of saying they're better than Portland's Voodoo Doughnuts. I call these people as wrong as I was to sell my naming and residuals rights to George Lucas for 2 dollars fifty cents and a half eaten frozen bean burrito. Hey, it was the 70's, get off my back! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a polyester leisure suit that matches my helmet?! They weren't cheap, you know! Where was I? Oh yeah, Top Pot. Their doughnuts aren't "bad", per se, but there's nothing particularly special about them. They have a very limited selection - sorry, it's true, and all the saying that they have a great variety doesn't make it so - and, depending on the time of day you go, your choices might be "plain cake doughnut" or "lemon doughnut that fell on the floor 10 minutes ago". It's a lose/lose. The people working the place are as friendly as you can hope for, and the store itself is incredibly well-decorated. But it doesn't change the fact that these are fundamentally weak doughnuts without much flavour and with absolutely no notable creativity. Incidentally, the item on the Foodie 100 list (The blueberry oat bar)? They don't even make it anymore. Couldn't have been that great. The locals can rave about them all they want. A lot of locals also think the Seahawks should have won that Super Bowl a few years back, and they also thought it would be a good idea to elect their current mayor, so obviously there's a "good solid judgment" void that sometimes appears. These doughnuts are merely average, no better than Dunkin Doughnuts, a step below Krispy Kreme, and light years behind some of the country's best artisan doughnut makers. This is a very delayed post (better late than never, right?!), but it still is a major concerning factor to me, and I have not returned to Top Pot ever since because of this experience. On 12/23/14, I picked up two tubs of ice cream to bring to my boyfriend's family, as I thought it would be nice to share a treat after dinner. I've always liked Top Pot donuts, and when I realized they also sold ice cream I wanted to try it. Thankfully, we were too full after dinner and forgot about dessert that evening so we didn't eat the ice cream. The very next morning I woke up to the news saying that a number of ice cream stores in the area have recalled their ice cream due to listeria concerns. So I called Top Pot, and inquired about this. Their response: "Oh I don't know what you are talking about. We have not heard anything. Yes, the ice cream should be perfectly safe to eat, but if you don't want to, then don't." I was very concerned with the lack of knowledge of the employee for this possibly serious illness, and I informed them that the news had stated they are having recalls. She responded "I guess you can bring it back in." Not only I was disappointed by knowledge of their own product, but with their lack of empathy toward customers. The store is not super far away, but it is a good 30 minute drive and out of my way just to return this product. However, I did not want to risk getting myself and others sick (some family members are elderly, and there is a baby as well), and every bit of money was essential (holiday season, and my "payday" is every ~3 months- oh, the glamorous life of a grad student!), so I decided to go back. When I did however, they were not at all apologetic of selling ice cream with potential harmful effects, as well as not even acknowledging inconvenience of the customer. No apology, no concern, no "compensation" (at least offering something)... I have worked in retail AND restaurant industry, and know how to give and receive stellar customer service. This less-than-impressive customer service, if anything, is why I will never go back to Top Pot. P.S. Is it really "Hand-Forged Ice Cream" when it comes from a single plant which also distributes to Snoqualmie Ice Cream, Molly Moon's, Full Tilt, and Emerald & Spruce Ice Cream? I love top pot and this location is located in a quiet neighborhood. Lots of street parking as well as a parking lot and outdoor seating. There was a line this morning (before 9am) but it moved quickly. I love top pot donuts, they well made, rich in flavor, with lots of variety.
