This is a very delayed post (better late than never, right?!), but it still is a major concerning factor to me, and I have not returned to Top Pot ever since because of this experience. On 12/23/14, I picked up two tubs of ice cream to bring to my boyfriend's family, as I thought it would be nice to share a treat after dinner. I've always liked Top Pot donuts, and when I realized they also sold ice cream I wanted to try it. Thankfully, we were too full after dinner and forgot about dessert that evening so we didn't eat the ice cream. The very next morning I woke up to the news saying that a number of ice cream stores in the area have recalled their ice cream due to listeria concerns. So I called Top Pot, and inquired about this. Their response: "Oh I don't know what you are talking about. We have not heard anything. Yes, the ice cream should be perfectly safe to eat, but if you don't want to, then don't." I was very concerned with the lack of knowledge of the employee for this possibly serious illness, and I informed them that the news had stated they are having recalls. She responded "I guess you can bring it back in." Not only I was disappointed by knowledge of their own product, but with their lack of empathy toward customers. The store is not super far away, but it is a good 30 minute drive and out of my way just to return this product. However, I did not want to risk getting myself and others sick (some family members are elderly, and there is a baby as well), and every bit of money was essential (holiday season, and my "payday" is every ~3 months- oh, the glamorous life of a grad student!), so I decided to go back. When I did however, they were not at all apologetic of selling ice cream with potential harmful effects, as well as not even acknowledging inconvenience of the customer. No apology, no concern, no "compensation" (at least offering something)... I have worked in retail AND restaurant industry, and know how to give and receive stellar customer service. This less-than-impressive customer service, if anything, is why I will never go back to Top Pot. P.S. Is it really "Hand-Forged Ice Cream" when it comes from a single plant which also distributes to Snoqualmie Ice Cream, Molly Moon's, Full Tilt, and Emerald & Spruce Ice Cream? I love top pot and this location is located in a quiet neighborhood. Lots of street parking as well as a parking lot and outdoor seating. There was a line this morning (before 9am) but it moved quickly. I love top pot donuts, they well made, rich in flavor, with lots of variety. They also have ice cream and coffee available at this location. read more

If I didn't have such a fear of becoming a fatty I would eat here every day. These donuts are fabulous. I like getting a variety and enjoying the surprise. The plain cake donuts are my favorite but I enjoyed the chocolate, the cream filled, the raspberry and a ton of others. The ovaltine latte wasn't that great but I'll try the coffee next time. Short & sweet-- heavenly maple bars and delicious coffee. I love drinking my coffee without adding anything to really get the taste. Definitely one of the better tasting coffees I've had at a donut place. I'm used to getting Top Pots donuts from QFC during the middle of the day, so it was a treat to grab a fresh bar this morning. Krispy Kreme may still have the best original glazed donut, but it doesn't stand a chance with Top Pots variety of donuts. read more

I heart the wedgewood Top Pot for its cool retro style. It's a great place to hang out and have a donut. I tried the rasberry glazed and apple fritter. Both are SO good. I'm not a big cake donut fan, but I will say their cake donuts looked enticing. I may have to try one the next time I pop in for their free wifi in the library. How cool is that? Top Pot follows the "Rule of O's." OVERRATED- Top Pot has the trappings of an important and trendy place. The outside is a converted gas station. The wood-adorned interior with its built-in bookcases evokes high-brow coffee house or college library reading room. Their stylized cardboard boxes are durable and serious. These boxes would never be caught dead associating with that box riff-raff colored in "donut shop pink." Printed next to the image of a blacksmith are the words "hand forged." Chrarles Ingalls' blacksmith is making this stuff out back! This is some serious old-school **** going on here. However, the truth is that despite looking tasty, many of their donuts are dense and dry--lacking in flavor beyond what they're filled or topped with. A bite into most of their cake donuts require that you follow up with some sort of liquid, and if you're going to tempt fate and wait until the next day, forget about it. This problem applies to many of their glazed offerings as well. You're better off squeezing water out of a day-old dinner roll. Overall, their selection is very limited. They tend to run out of choices rather early in the afternoon, presumably because their blacksmith has left to shoe some horses. OVERPRICED- Be prepared to take out a loan. A half dozen mixed will take you well into double digits, easily twice as much as a half dozen at a no-frills independent like "Family Donut" over on Northgate. OLD-FASHIONED- The one exception that still makes Top Pot worth an occasional visit is their glazed old-fashioned. The icing is thick, rich, and sweet (ALMOST too sweet). And the cake is nice and moist, a rare exception to many of their other ho-hum offerings. Their apple fritter is another solid choice. Beyond those two, everything is very much hit or miss (far more miss than hit). Like their large glazed ring or Bavarian Creme Bismark, there are many offerings that are more style over substance, or just not as good as they should be. Density and dryness remain common problems. A number of their donuts are presumably hand-dipped; you can see how the drip marks have hardened in place near the bottom. And while they're probably using good ingredients and home-spun techniques, little of this translates into flavor. The old-fashioneds are one of the only notable exceptions. A weak line-up and poor value translate into 2 stars for me. If you're in the neighborhood, dropping by for an old-fashioned and cup of coffee is not unreasonable. This just isn't the place to buy in bulk or variety. Your office staff and wallet deserve better. read more

The epitome of overrated. I really don't understand why they get the raves that they do. Their donuts are fine, but not even close to being the best in the area. In fact I'd put Safeway's bakery donuts ahead of Top Pot's. I find them dry, way too big, and way too expensive. read more

This was my first and definitely last experience with Top Pot Doughnuts. I went to the 35th Ave location in Seattle and bought 3 chocolate long johns and was $6.21 are you serious, well yes you are because I had to pay $6.21 for 3 yes 3 doughnuts. The chocolate was so nasty that the three of us threw away our $2.07 each doughnuts and I am pretty sure you are not supposed to taste the yeast and have a nasty after taste from the chocolate. If you are charging for the lavish appearance of the store and adding the cost into the doughnut price then you should let us know that the normal 60cents for long johns and $1.47 for the overpriced appearance of the store. Off note the color coding is not explained that the top of the square card equals the round circle color on the paper, maybe lined colors with the price or a round dot with the price on the cards. read more

I keep expecting these to be good donuts. I've been driving by every day for the last 5 years. Their donuts have been getting progressively worse. Today, stopped in to get some as a thank you for a co-worker- the old fashioned chocolate glazed were hard to tear, like plastic/ tough (from overmixing? Did they use bread flour?). The frosting was a thick tasteless paste. These were so tough, dense, tasteless and greasy I actually threw them out. $12 worth. Truly awful. Very disappointing. The Safeway donuts are actually much better. read more

I came to visit from Ca and my sister recommended this place to take and neice for a nice stroll to the doughnut shop. I work retail and work many holidays so I could understand why they closed at 1:00pm and why the employees would like to get out of there. 15 mins before closing the doughnuts were removed from display. Understandable. We asked the bald guy with the glasses and he WAS REALLY SHORT AND RUDE. Didn't even offer to get doughnuts from the back or care to say that the registers were closed and being counted out. That is if the actually were. I love the actual place. Great atmosphere. My favorite doughnuts here were the raspberry glazed old fashioned and the plain old fashioned. The coconut was disappointing. Giving this place a four star since it's close to work! And who doesn't like convenience? Ok staff. Ok espresso. Wonderful cake doughnuts. And a great space for studying. If you're in the area and looking for a nice meet up place, this place is the spot, not to mention they actually have a mini parking lot! read more

OMG! I got the chocolate donut with chocolate glaze. It was perfect! Crunchy yet it yields nicely to the mouth. I told my BFF it was better than sex, LOL! Coffee was a lot better than I expected. It was a real challenge not to eat more than 1. read more

I used to get blueberry cake doughnuts from Dunk'n Doughnuts, but we don't have any around here. I heard Top Pot carried them and wanted to try their doughnuts anyways after seeing it featured on the Travel channel. They're so delicious. Great donuts, but the hot chocolate left a lot to be desired. Overly sweet and foamy, plus it got spilled everywhere when the dude slammed it down on the counter, leaving me to do cleanup. Finally had one of the much discussed pumpkin doughnuts, definitely lives up to the hype -DELICIOUS!

Hubby was introduced to this place by a friend couple of weeks ago. He brouth a extra donut home when he got home from work. When I ate it, OMG! it was the best donut, so BIG, fluffy, not too moist, not to dried, perfect amount of glaze. Then I told hubby I would like to try Apple Fritter as it's my fave. So he brought home a apple fritter for me for Valentine's. Well, out of all the apple fritters I had different places, Top Pot got the BEST apple fritter, not too sugary, just right amount of cinnamon, and sugar glaze, nice size, fluffy, not too moist, not too dried. I would get my apple fritter from here from now on! I have not try the coffee as I'm not a coffee drinker. read more

Great spot as donut shops go. I'll fess up to not loving donuts so much in general - too sweet, too big, something I usually regret eating later. But I like Top Pot - good coffee, good espresso drinks, fantastic dining area. Love the bookshelves. Can be crowded on weekend morning, but they're good at working a line. I haven't been to millions on doughnut places, and I'm not the biggest doughnut fanatic. But when I taste a good doughnut, I know its a good one. And that is the exact sensation you will feel when biting into the sweet taste of a top pot doughnut. I come here all the time, after soccer games and stuff. And this place is great. Usually I get a plain glazed ring or a maple bar, but all the doughnuts are delicious, you cannot go wrong at top pot doughnuts. read more

Wha can I say...I've now been spoiled. I was accustomed to mostly mediocre donuts back East, then I found this place. Ugh. There's no comparison. I love this place and their products are amazingly good...with favorites being the apple fritter for me and the pumpkin glazed for my wife. I walk into Top Pot, the aroma of fresh baked doughnuts is great. The place is a bit hip and trendy, and the doughnuts look amazing. I got a dozen because they looked so darn good. The guy working the counter hands me the box of doughnuts, and I thought it had lead in it. I was expecting these doughnuts to be light and flufffy, but they are solid and heavy, not too great in my opinion. I was hoping to enjoy a few doughnuts, but just 1 will make you completely full. read more

Top Pot is my favorite spots and this location is charmingly retro. I love fried dough, but Top Pot takes you back to the time of seriously handcrafted doughnuts. I adore the pink rainbow, maple bars, and the plain old fashioned. Am I the only one getting hungry? read more
