Visitng my sister in Seattle and we stopped to waste some time at Top Pot Doughnuts. She knows I love a good donut and she told me that they were a destination in Seattle. The shop itself was large, warm, clean and decorated in a cool, hip, laidback kind of way. The young girls that helped us the day we were there were equally as cool, friendly and laidback. The donuts themselves are just okay. I think Top Pot is okay. Their coffee is good but I think the donuts are just okay. The donuts are expensive for their offerings and they are served at room temperature. Lots of street parking close by and there's also a garage. $6+ for a latte and a donut. Seems kind of high to me. read more

You'd think for a place that was completely empty when I walked in, with three people behind the counter chatting - a little help wouldn't have been that much of a stretch. Unfortunately, I was treated more like a burden than a customer. Our office was so excited, and a little scared for our scales, at the idea of having a Top Pot so close by. Instead, when I ordered a box of assorted donuts not only did I get it plopped in front of my but one of the girls actually asked the other "Are these even fresh? Or are these the ones boxed from yesterday?"...Uuumm, eww. Fresh please. Top Pot is pretty good! It's no Blue Star, but it gets the job done with a small cup of joe and a Ovaltine-filled powder donuts. Some of the others I've had have been a little lackluster and not flavorful enough, but they're getting there. I'd give it a 3.5. read more

The Americano was good. The doughnut was dry and blah. If I am going to eat a over priced doughnut it should melt in your mouth. You shouldn't have to wash it down with coffee. I've never been to Top Pot doughnuts, after living in Seattle almost 4 years now. Some would have me hanged for such an offense. I moved here, went to Mighty-O doughnuts and never looked back. Omg, those are fantastic. I stumbled into this location since my car was in the shop, they were nice enough to let me use a credit card for a single doughnut (a maple bar). The staff were all very nice... The doughnut however was just awful. I think it's on par with Safeway, was sickeningly sweet, I had to throw it away after a couple bites. There is not much to say about each Top Pot location. Having one just up the street from my house, I purposely avoid it unless a member of my family wants to go just to annoy me. The $3 cup of coffee is closer to something you would get on a Naval ship after being out to sea for a few weeks vs other places in town you pay $3 for a cup of coffee. The pastries are way too expensive. And honestly the reason I avoid them the most is the horrible attitude of the people who work there--which being consistent across all locations, I have to blame this on management. read more

Top Pot has the BEST apple fritter I have ever tasted! I was skeptical about trying this place because of the reviews on Yelp, but my friend who lives here strongly recommended the donuts here. My friend had me try the maple donut and the apple fritter and they were both mind blowing! I wish I had taken pictures to show the texture, but I was so excited that I ate them before I remembered to snap photos. The apple fritter has a deep apple cinnamon flavor and a crisp texture. The fritter is covered in a white and hardened glaze that add a sweet flavor and complement the crisp texture. Not too crunchy, not too soft; just right. The maple donut was a fluffier texture with a decadent maple glaze on top. It has no filling on the inside but I think that the maple glaze adds a good amount of sweetness and flavor to the soft dough. I have tried a few other flavors and they are alright. I don't think anyone would be disappointed by a decent glaze and chocolate covered donut. But if you do want to be blown away, make sure to try the apple fritter! read more

Definitely a good spot for coffee and donuts, my favorites are the Americanos, green tea & lattes for coffee & apple fritter and salted caramel old fashioned for doughnuts. The two stars is because the description fits it to a tee (Meh. I've experienced better) I almost want to give them 3 stars for the decor/atmosphere which is great in Ballard. BUT the donuts are across the board average in my book, the coffee is overpriced and I have just generally never been that impressed. The dagger for me is twofold. A: Their maple bars (my favorite) are below average and almost bland, I would take a QFC private label maple bar over Top Pot (holds true for multiple locations as it was the first doughnut I tried) B: One way that they could make their maple bar 2x better is by having a $20 microwave on site to warm them up (if you havent done this personally you need to!) Variety, freshness, and great customer service. I had the Lemon powdered doughnut. He had the maple bar, and they had the apple fritter. Lots of dough but even more flavor. Fresh to boot. The apple fritter had a ton of apples and that is hard to find. The glaze wasn't to heavy. One thing Midwesterners don't know is that Dunkin' Donuts, the coffee-and-donut chain that you can find on every block in the city of Chicago, and pretty much the metropolitan area, has essentially no presence in the Pacific time zone. I was reminded of this after I got six donuts here. I got a variety of donuts, including double chocolate and some sort of a blueberry cake. I'm pretty sure I got a few old fashioned, too. The service was fine, but I found the donuts pretty dense. I recall the chocolate cake one being kind of soft and rubbery, too. The regular, non-old fashioned donuts reminded me exactly of Dunkin' Donuts. I don't have any issues with the chain, I just think they don't taste as good as they ought to. :-D It might be that the coffee, much like DD, is the star of the show here, and not the donuts. But since we stopped in for the donuts, I'd call 'em good donuts, but nothing special. read more

I have been working in Ballard for years now, and we were all very excited when this Top Pot opened just up the street! Who doesn't appreciate fresh daily temptations of sweet, sweet greasy goodness in a variety of flavors. The shop is located in a relatively easy to find street corner in Ballard Blocks. There is plenty of free street parking just outside, and also the Ballard Blocks parking lot for those who prefer lots. When you get inside, it is brightly lit with lots of windows and a spacious area with plenty of places to sit. There is a generous doughnut display with lots of different choices to pick from. Some of my faves are the glazed, frosted with sprinkles, apple fritter, maple bar, chocolate bar, pumpkin, cake doughnut. They also usually have some option of bread of you prefer that instead of doughnuts. Doughnut prices are a little high, about $2 per doughnut. But the size of the doughnut is quite large in my opinion, so it is worth the money. I sometimes pick up a dozen to share with coworkers, and it always brightens up everyone's day. Personally I prefer my doughnuts lighter and fluffier, and I love Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts. Although Top Pot doughnuts have a great size and variety, the consistency of the doughnuts are a little more dense than I prefer. I also have had one negative experience here with my drink order. This was within the first month when they opened. I had come first thing in the morning and ordered a doughnut and chai tea from the coffee menu. They gave me my food, I paid for my doughnut and drink, and proceeded to wait for my drink. After about 10 minutes standing there, the barista realized she completely forgot about my drink (even though I was the only customer in the shop at that time). She made my drink in a large size (even though I ordered a small size), and gave me a card for a free drink for next time, which I thought was fair to make up for her forgetfulness. Unfortunately my chai tea tasted watered down and not as creamy and sweet as I like, so I will likely never order chai from here again. I will stick to Java Jahn drinks across the street or a Starbucks run for that. Overall, great variety of doughnut options that are great for a little sweet treat or a box of a dozen to share with a group. read more

Many years ago I worked Red Robin, and every now and then we would run out of burgers. People were SHOCKED. "But you're a burger joint! How can you run out of burgers?" This is EXACTLY the problem at the Ballard Top Pot. They are always out of doughnuts! They must have some when they open, but if you aren't first in line they are SOLD OUT. I've gone after taking my kids to get their hair cut next doo- no doughnuts (or sometimes if you get lucky, maybe a handful of stragglers to choose from). I've tried earlier in the day on the way to Trader Joe's- same scenario. Last Thursday I went at 9:30 in the morning and they were ALREADY out of most doughnuts- no chocolate bars, no pink frosted, no glazed rings. When I asked the woman who rang me up why they never have any doughnuts she said "we just don't order enough." There is such an OBVIOUS SOLUTION to this problem! And if they won't order more doughnuts, can they just change the name to Top Pot Coffee and be done with it? That way if you actually luck into a rare doughnut --any doughnut! -- it would be exciting instead of disappointing not to get what you really wanted. P.S., if you are lucky enough to get a doughnut they are very delicious. read more

My husband is lucky enough to work for an awesome company that orders Top Pot doughnuts for the entire office once in awhile. After hearing him rave about the doughnuts, I knew I had to walk over on my lunch break to try them out. To put it simply - this is a nice looking doughnut shop, which has prime real estate, which translates to pricy product. Okay, hand-forged doughnuts makes them kinda special. BUt to be honest, I didn't think these doughnuts were "out of this world" like I was told they would be. And at $2.00 a doughnut (I bought 1/2 dozen which set me back a whopping $12), I would expect these to be out of this world. I don't think I'd fork over $2 a doughnut again - they just weren't that amazing. I would rather go to Henry's Doughnuts (only to be found in Everett/Mukilteo) any day of the week! read more

The donuts are actually delicious! I have no complaints about the quality of the donuts. The rating is strictly based off the TERRIBLE staff at this location. I've gone a handful of times now and EVERY SINGLE time I go I get the worst service. It's a different girl at the counter each time but they each seem to carry the same attitude. For lack of better words, they all have a stick up their ass. It's as if me going in to be a paying customer is such an inconvenience to them. We had family come visit from out of town and we were so embarrassed that they were so rude when we took them to try these popular donuts. Fresh and delicious. Great customer service. Barista is capable too. The location is convenient to Magnolia and to shopping. If you have children, the store is located next to a few children's themed locations. There are plenty of high chairs and booster seats. Just one big issue... There is NO changing table. Nothing. My other issue is the price of the doughnuts. Though they are generally made in house, they are more expensive than when buying them from the grocery. They are just as fresh at the grocery and only 99 cents. I feel like I am paying for the privilege of eating at the shop. Where I have to lay my baby on the floor of the bathroom to change her. However! Having said this, I have had to hang out here prior to baby. There are electrical outlets under the benches and the staff is really cool about you nursing your coffee while you jack their WiFi. Did I mention I like their staff? read more

I like this place and I like the doughnuts, but my two experiences with preordering have not been great. I had to remove some stars for that, and for the lack of response when I reached out to try to make it right. The first time I preordered they lost my order. I was told to just pick out new doughnuts. I did so and they told me that they would be no charge since they lost my order. I let them know that I had already paid for them. They pretty much ignored that and made no offer or attempt to refund me. Alright, I am fine paying for my doughnuts. This past weekend my friend preordered the limited weekend only pina colada doughnuts for us. We were very excited to try them and on Top Pot's social media posts they recommended preordering to make sure you could get them. When we got home and opened up the box there was no pina colada doughnuts inside, just plain apple ones we did not order. I contacted them about this three days ago and have yet to receive a response. To me that is unacceptable. Mistakes happen, but to ignore your customers is just not ok. I doubt I will return here anytime soon. So maybe go and pick out your doughnuts here, but I highly recommend avoiding preordering. You will probably be disappointed. read more

2.5 stars rounding up. Oman I used to love top pot but it's steadily declined over the years. Their prices are unnecessarily high for subpar to average tasting donuts. I recently got a maple bar and I felt like i was ploughing through some dense bread. Guys, a donut should be light and airy even if it is a thousand calories- that's what makes it so great! This location has nice high ceilings and big open space. It's right across from Quest so we stop by pretty much every Sunday before service. The cleanliness of this place is questionable as the tables (which are always lopsided btw and requires us to jam a wad of tissue under one leg of the table) are always filthy with crumbs and hardened frosting. This is ok, given the higher than average amount of kids that come in and out, but the one thing that absolutely gives me the heebiejeebies is those little flies that like to fly around the donuts in the case!!!! I don't even mind the jumbo flies, but those little ones - Eeks I feel like they are master reproducers and regenerate every minute. Anyway I noticed for the first time last time I went that those little flies have set up housing in the case. I don't get why places don't have CLOSED cases (Starbucks does this too and some locations have serious little fly problems) especially when you are selling sweet stuff!?! The worst is when an employee reaches in to grab your donut and it sets off a flurry of flies. Anyway. There also always seems to be an unnecessarily large number of employees behind the counter, so perhaps a way of fixing the cleanliness issue is to simply have someone cleaning up and not standing around? I appreciate the attentiveness of the three employees that take my order, but one seems sufficient. I hope you improve Top Pot! Would be a shame to see quality decline even if quantity increases. read more

They watched the barista make my simple coffee drinks very slowly and one at a time. I then had to ask for the creamer to be refilled at the messy condiment station. I just got home from Top Pot in Ballard. It was 7:30am when I went in there. They open at 7. This is important information because the doughnuts we are now eating are at least a day old. They're not fresh at all. How disappointing. This coupled by the impatience and seeming irritation by the woman serving me as I made my choices (I was the only person in the store by the way) made the whole experience a total letdown. I very rarely eat doughnuts (or do Yelp reviews) and thought I would skip the grocery store and go straight to the source but what a bummer. Save yourself the trouble. I got a chai latte and my wife got an Irish cream latte. The chai was, by far, the worst I've ever had from any café. It tasted like it was made from water without any milk at all, and the flavor of the tea was just bad. I only had a few sips before I threw it away. My wife wasn't thrilled with her latte, either; it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great, just an average latte. All that, after a 15 minute wait. What a waste, of both time and money. I would've gone back to get replacements or refunds but they were too hot to drink at first so we had left by the time we knew. I would not recommend or go back. read more

Long a fan of Top Pot I had mixed feelings when it came to my neighborhood....right next to my gym. My coworker had brought in these tasty delights from the new joint several times - oh how I love their cake doughnuts - the feather boa, the chocolate with raspberry glaze, even the blueberry. I would definitely recommend the cake doughnuts as superior. I finally made it to the store for breakfast- if we can call it that. We came at an influx of people - so there was a line, dirty table, and no dishes - only pastry bags, which never feels welcoming to stay somewhere (at least to me). Soon the line was gone and the plates replenished. Feeling festive, I ordered a pumpkin latte. Which. was. awful. My Friend stopped me from saying anything pointing out it was just the flavor that was terrible, not the coffee or the barista. Take my word - don't try the pumpkin latte. We also tried the "Squash Bread" - delicious bread made locally that I have since seen at other coffee joints. I really like it - the perfect texture and flavor. Pumpkin glazed old fashion tasted just like a piece of candy corn. Seriously! A little too sugary for me - and that's saying a lot! The last was the blueberry cake doughnut which I like too - I normally don't like blueberry flavored things as I feel its overplayed. Cake doughnuts - delicious as ever. Pumpkin latte - not so much. Looks like they have plenty of space for meeting / studying as it builds up their clientele in a rather industrial neighborhood. A great place to stop by and grab something on the go! read more

I'm fairly certain the doughnuts are not made at this location but are delivered from the main location so they are never going to be as fresh as they could be.
