I am ALWAYS so happy to walk into my absolute fave coffee shop in the whole world! That may seem like a bold statement, but they make a mean Oatmilk Ovalteen Latte plus the best old fashion doughnuts ever (come on peeps, who doesn't like a good old fashioned once in a while??) How I heard of this place: Nearly two decades ago, when I first moved to Seattle, Top Pot was introduced to me by a new friend. Years later, I worked at the Wedgewood location. Now, I pop in from time to time for a treat. Type of cuisine: Donuts and coffee. A selection of bottled beverages, sandwiches and pastries are also available. Ambiance: Most of the older locations seem to be decorated similarly - a floor to ceiling book shelf with books of all genres gracing the cubes. The seating area is large at this location, with plenty of space between tables/chairs . Customers walk up to the large bar at the back of the square-shaped room to place orders, making their way to the left to pay and farther along to pick up barista creations. Wooden and metallic floors, furnishings create the air of what I came to first see at Top Pot (when there were only two locations, a third one on it's way). What I ordered: A dozen doughnuts plus an Americano. What I loved: The new, seasonal raspberry lemonade old fashioned was a quick hit and favorite among those of us indulging in the doughnuts on this day. I wish I had thought to grab of a couple of those sweet and tart treats. Super friendly workers. Have coupon for free coffee. Ordered Vietnam coffee. No bad,have considered milk,I try drinking without sugar,but is not much sweeter,have good taste coffee. Update: come back and ordered chai latte,too many ice,taste just tea,workers forget add coffee. More bad chai not fresh just from plastic bottles,they just buy ready tea,not good. No recommend this place,overpriced and even didn't know how do coffee right. read more

Order led 18 donuts via DoorDash. Paid for fast delivery before my coworkers took their lunch breaks. They gave the dasher an incomplete order. The dasher had to come back and retrieve rest of order but everyone has left for lunch and we are stuck with over a dozen uneaten donuts. DoorDash has also been a nightmare. So don't order delivery from here. If you do, don't use DoorDash. read more

I do not know why so many people hate on Top Pot. Sure there are donut spots that are more unique with wild offerings, but Top Pot is an excellent option for a simple, straightforward donut. Their raised donuts are fluffy and have great flavor. It's probably the best raised donut I have had in a while (aside from one of those boutique spots I've alluded to before) -- definitely the best plain raised donut. I also enjoyed the old fashioned, though I'm not that familiar with this donut style. My favorite was their cake donuts. They manage to be light and fluffy while still being very much a cake donut in style. As for flavors, I really enjoyed the pink frosting with sprinkles and the raspberry frosting. I appreciated the tart, fruity flavor of the raspberry and enjoyed how neither flavors were too sweet for my palette. I do think your mileage may vary based on which type of donut you get and what you like. I got a chocolate cake donut, and it was really dry. Not at all like the regular cake donut dough. :( I'd say don't knock this place until you've tried either a raised donut, an old fashioned, or a regular cake donut. Also, I would like to point out how there was no line when I went on a Saturday morning around 8:30 AM and all the donuts were fully stocked. Sometimes you just want a really solid, classic donut without the fuss. There's no shame in that. read more

Lured by the $2 donut special...I made the mistake of coming here. We got a salted caramel and a pumpkin old fashioned. The salted caramel one was gross. The topping was not set and it was just melting off and a sticky mess. The pumpkin was marginally better. The texture of both donuts had no crispy edges and was just like dry cake. Both are going into the trash. I have had much better old fashioneds. I know why they need a deal to attract people now. read more

Doughnuts are perfection. The service is out of this world, very friendly and clearly they take pride in their jobs. Parking is available in the garage on the street. Very clean and welcoming environment in the store. read more

Never better. Ordered two Belgian biggies. Was offered and declined coffee. Quick, attentive service. Good humored, conversational, informative. I was only there for all of three maybe four minutes, but it was enough. And the Belgian I was going to save, then only eat maybe half of, was eventually devoured long before I returned to the office. The second was saved for someone at home who ooooh'd and aaaaaah'd over it like it was the second coming. Thank you Top Pot. You never disappoint. read more

Great place to grab an iced coffee on a hot day! Plenty of street parking around, ample seating inside the store, and free WiFi! They also have outside seating on the sidewalk if you prefer to soak up the sun, or be like me and work at the bar in front of the window and enjoy the AC! read more

Top Pot is my go to doughnut location in Ballard!! The workers at this location are always super nice and friendly. I love to stop by after doing some grocery shopping as Trader Joe's is next door. Its pretty tempting when you go to Trader Joes next door and you walk by this place and see the doughnuts waving at you. So you stop and think, ok....Ill go in and see what they got, then you end up with half dozen. I've been here a few times during the weekend mornings and it's a nice place to grab a coffee & doughnut. A lot of space, good amount of tables, family friendly and a good amount of selections available. A few hit & misses on the apple fritter as one would have plenty of apples and super delicious and another time it would be a bit doughy with no apples. I've changed it up a bit and been sticking with the glazed old fashioned. Classic doughnut and perfect on a weekend morning to take home and drink your coffee while watching Dog the Bounty Hunter re-runs. I dont have any issues with the staff, pricing is a bit higher, nice location, good amount of parking and convienient for me. read more

Came here on a whim while in the area running an errand. No wait and customer service was on point - they made my coffee to perfection of how much cream I wanted in it and I really didnt care too much about exact, but I do appreciate the attention to detail there. We got a peppermint chocolate donut, a chocolate glazed iced ring donut and an 8oz drip coffee. The chocolate glazed was amazing! The peppermint one was whoa super intense flavor, but still tasty. It worked with the coffee. Overall paid ~$8 for all and wouldn't mind returning to try more donut flavors. read more

I've loved Top Pot for ages. Their glazed old-fashioned donut/doughnut is still the best out there that I've ever had. The Ballard location does a great job of checking for vax cards, and even gives you a large Lego piece while eating inside as proof of vax. read more

Doughnuts and fritters and baked goods Oh My! This is a great little place to stop on your way to work or for a break in your day to satisfy that craving we all have. That little voice in your head that says, feed me some doughnuts!! Top Pot is that place to go! They have a huge selection of doughnuts and baked goodies to choose from. Some of my favorites include: the Vanilla Fan Favorite (sprinkles, um yes!), the Glazed Old Fashion (if there's glaze, then count me in), and the Apple Fritter ('nuff said)! They also have many of the other doughnut stand-by's for all tastes - powdered sugars, jellies and filled, chocolates, plains, etc. Although I haven't had them yet, they do also have muffins, scones, and croissants...they look good too, but it's hard for me to pass up their doughnuts when I'm there, just a personal problem I have! :-) Top it off with a coffee drink of your choice and you'll be good to go. I've just had their drip coffee, and it's above average - not amazing, but not bad either. Next time I'm there I'll have one of their espresso based coffees and see what that's like. My only complaint is that they don't open until 7:00am. Feels late for a doughnut place and I'm usually at work by then anyways. Wish they opened at like 6:00 or 6:30...but alas. Great doughnuts can be had here at Top Pot! read more

I went here to just grab a bite of something to hold me over until lunch time. I ordered the Old-Fashioned Glazed Donut and it was good. I also ordered a hot latte and their cold brew for my boyfriend. Both of the coffees were just okay. Basically, I would go back to get a donut if I was in the mood, but their coffee wasn't worth it to me. read more

The doughnuts are so yummy, but honestly, some of the folks who work here need to turn the ol' frown upside down. I can't even say the word "doughnut" without smiling, but the Ballard Top Pot has a few grumpy pusses at it! Come on now, folks... I'm glad they haven't taken the hipster tack of making all of their doughnuts have over-hyped junk all over them, like Froot Loops or bacon or whatever...I can come here and get a raspberry old fashioned, or better still a lemon-filled and end up with powdered sugar all over my face, heck yeah. read more

I love you, Seattle, but are people really getting on Top Pot about not offering more vegan and gluten-free options? This is an old-school bakery with old-fashioned doughnuts. Flour is king. Could they offer some type of vegan doughnut? Yeah, most likely, but I'm guessing they figure that they'll let a local competitor handle that market. This particular Top Pot is clean and friendly, although I think they could use some curtains to warm up the place because seeing the cloudy day all the time is honestly a little dreary. I like that the downtown store is a little more cozy and this one would do well to follow suit if they want to bring in more of the up-and-coming Ballard crowd. Knocking off two stars because HOLY JESUS why are they so expensive (pretty much at least $2 a pop after tax for the simplest of doughnuts) and why could I always expect to pay less for these guys at local cafés (RIP Bauhaus) than at the Top Pot locations themselves? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Adding back a star for the best maple frosting this side of the Mississippi and for apple fritters as big as your ten-year-old's face. Or your face, just not mine because I think my cheeks are really big compared to a normal person's. read more

Fast free wifi in a big space with lots of seating (albeit they are hard wooden seats and not terribly comfortable). I recommend the salted caramel old fashioned doughnut. This location has easy-to-find street parking. I prefer Top Pot doughnuts to Mighty-O by far! read more

I really like Top Pot - but this location is pretty sub-par. The last few times I've been there - they never have my favorite donuts - and I usually get there before lunch time. They just seem to have the same ones they sell at QFC. If I wanted donuts and coffee from QFC, I'd go to QFC. More raspberry rings.... Combine that with an interior that's a bit annoyingly loud. Get something to absorb sound in there. Skip this place and just get your fix in Bell Town. read more

Excellent yeast and cake donuts here! I walked in on a Wednesday to grab a raspberry glazed and a chocolate cake donut and did not walk out disappointed! The raspberry donut was super chewy and flavorful, and I barely made it 2 blocks before most of it was gone. The chocolate cake donut was dense and rich, and went excellently with a cup of coffee! read more

We stopped by this morning for some doughnuts. Located in a plaza with trader joes and ross it was not hard to find. It was not too busy when we walked in. Lots of doughnuts to choose from. I had a chocolate frosted and a baked egg and bacon pie. Doughnuts are priced for $12.99 for 6. They also have a selection of hot teas and coffee. The doughnuts were tasty and fresh. Tea was good as well. The service was also good. Good place to grab a quick bite! read more

My kids love top pot so we go once in awhile to get their doughnuts and hand pies. The last time we went my son found a piece of plastic in the hand pie. I emailed corporate to let them know about what happened. I thought I would have received a response saying thank you for the email but nothing. Left coasters don't know how good they have it in the doughnut department. Reasonably priced gourmet quality donuts without the pretentiousness of wannabe-Brooklynites. Friendly staff, big open space, lots of seating. Great spot for a coffee date. Check out Edith Macefield's house just down the block. read more

I don't mind Top Pot Doughnuts. It's a bit average compared to others I have been to and tasted. It's a step above Dunkin' Doughnuts and below Frost Doughnuts in Mill Creek, WA. When I went with a friend, the doughnut selection was a bit poor. I expected a bit more. I ordered the raspberry chocolate doughnut. I tasted the fruity raspberry glaze and the chocolate doughnut. It was divine and I did want another one. read more

Top pot is still my favorite donut place in Seattle. Most of the variety are "classic" ie. maple bars, ring, glazed, cake, etc. Maple bacon bars are a daily donut but can sell out quick. Some favorites include the cake donut, pumpkin (seasonal), and simple chocolate glazed. The donuts have good texture and are always satisfying. Service has always been great here and their french roast coffee makes a great cold brew. read more

The donuts were all good, I like the chocolate custard filled. The chocolate glazed was really yummy yum yum. The glazed twist and apple fritter was okay but I think the raise donuts were better than the cake ones. I didn't try all of them but most of them. I'll have the pumpkins old fashion tonight. read more

This particular Top Pot has a large seating area and is never too busy when I visit. There's street parking around for your convenience. I enjoy the old fashion lemon glazed doughnut. Top Pot in general seems to specialize in more cake-y doughnuts but I do wish they had a few more "airy" options to mix up the textures. A warm doughnut option would be great too. read more

Underwhelming at 2 in the afternoon with a small selection of (old-looking) donuts, only one vegan and gluten-free option that I could see, and the shop smelled like burnt coffee. The GF jam biscuit is the same pastry that several coffeeshops around town serve. I would love to see more creativity, especially from a top-of-the-line donut business (please?)! I really wanted to be happy with my visit, but was left wanting. Guess it pays to be an early bird here. read more

No need for many words here. Top Pot is a staple for me when in Seattle! I absolutely love the apple fritters and their other raised donuts. My nephews get the Seahawk donuts and love it! The strawberry one is ridiculous as well! Simply put, these are the best donuts I have had anywhere...anytime! The service is awesome and it's completely worth the extra buck or two than the tradition donut stores around. read more

Larger than life doughnuts, and great customer service. I'm a fan of Top Pot. They aren't healthy, they aren't vegan, and they're huge. Seriously, you should probably share one with someone else. Their coffee is also pretty darn tasty. People will moan about the price, but seriously - when was the last time you had such a delicious and huge doughnut? Also, the staff is pretty great. This is an awkward location, because it's not in the walkable part of Ballard. However, this is nicely situated next to Gymboree, which means I can feed my kid, grab a coffee, and then hit Trader Joe's in one convenient stop. I've been here enough times to finally clear a coffee punch card. I'll definitely be here for more. The baristas are pretty great here, so even if you're not wanting a doughnut, definitely stop in for a coffee. read more

Visitng my sister in Seattle and we stopped to waste some time at Top Pot Doughnuts. She knows I love a good donut and she told me that they were a destination in Seattle. The shop itself was large, warm, clean and decorated in a cool, hip, laidback kind of way. The young girls that helped us the day we were there were equally as cool, friendly and laidback. The donuts themselves are just okay. Well made but expensive as hell and although my frosted pumpkin donut was yummy....waaay too much money to spend on a dozen donuts....where's the nearest Yum Yum? read more

The glaze is sweet and gives off a heavy maple fragrance, an indication they use real maple syrup in the glaze. Maple bars from other places are usually disgustingly sweet with basically no maple flavor - this one is sweet but more well balanced. I think the texture is definitely different from a typical yeast donut. I wonder if it's just because it more difficult to make vegan yeast donuts vs cake donuts? It's a different type of yeast donut, but still very good. (4/5) Chocolate Peanut Butter ($4.45) - Good peanut butter flavor in both the topping and glaze. I think the donut base is also peanut butter but it could be contamination from the glaze. The base isn't very sweet and is kind of almost savory in flavor. The donut is dense but not crumbly and instead very moist. Not really crusty, so not too much textural difference. I think it's baked rather than fried. Still very sweet. (4/5) Devils Playground ($4.45) - The donut base is dense with rich chocolate flavor, and coated with a chocolate ganache of just the right thickness. I hate it when donuts just have a smear of topping to make the donut look attractive, but does barely anything flavor wise. This one, on the other hand, is richly flavored. (4/5) Chocolate Raspberry ($3.65) - This is my favorite, same chocolate cake donut base as above but with bright berry notes and specks of seeds. The tangy berries do wonders to temper down some of the sweetness. (5/5) French Toast ($3.65) - My least favorite by far. Covered with peanuts (which is fine), but the cake donut base or perhaps the glaze tastes heavily earthy, like an overload of cinnamon and nutmeg. (2/5) People who expect the exact same texture as a non-vegan donut, both the cake and yeast types, will probably be disappointed. If I just think of these donuts as their own thing, they're actually quite good. There's another donut shop that I prefer down the street, but Mighty-O Donuts certainly isn't a bad choice for a sweet treat.
