In late August, I started a two-month remodeling project on my home in Southern California. Every room is affected so I rented a "pod" for my driveway, stored all the home's contents, vacated the house and moved to a hotel. Steven and Alan from Top Shelf Delivery and Moving moved all my furniture and belongings from my house into the pod for safekeeping. I was impressed by Steven and Alan's promptness, professionalism, communication and work ethic. In less than four hours, they carefully moved me from my four-bedroom, two-story home and ingeniously packed everything in the pod. It was incredible they fit everything in that 8' x 8' x 16' pod! When I asked, they estimated they've performed 1,000 and 2,000 moves respectively and that their top priority remains customer satisfaction. In my case, Steven and Alan certainly achieved their goal! I plan to call Top Shelf Delivery and Moving when I move back into my home and I'm pleased I can "reserve" Steven and Alan to perform the move. Billy and Katie were very responsive to my initial inquiry, and got us all set up for our residential move. The morning of the move, the 3 movers called with an update of their status, they arrived on time and were prepared. Stephen, Alan, and Conner were excellent. They were professional, dressed appropriately, polite, efficient, and organized. They used moving blankets, shrink wrap, dollies, and all the necessary precautions to not damage our furniture, or any walls. They completed our move within the anticipated time frame as well, including relocating some existing furniture items. The truck was clean and professional looking as well. I spoke with Roy about my local move. He was easy to deal with and emailed the contract to me when I settled on a date to move. The two moving guys showed up early for my move. The one guy with the long hair was very nice. The other one was just ok. He complained a lot. I was surprised they didn't wrap my couch. They did wrap my wood end table. It was a small move as I don't have a lot of furniture or stuff. Nothing was broken. They did forget a chair that I had to remind them of on the truck. It was a good move and the price was right. With text messages and camera's the owner shouldn't lie about his dealings with customers. I have proof of all dealings and wish I could upload the voicemail that his girlfriend left. The owner also lied telling me he stopped by my place but my neighbor has camera's and only Leo the repairman stopped by. Stay clear of this business if you value your belongings. read more

From the first request for a quote, through numerous conversations with Roy, and then our experience today, "top shelf" all the way! The rate was good and with 4 guys and 2 trips, I think I still moved a 4 bedroom home at record speed. It was still within the budget we set aside for our move! The truck was first class and they have everything you need. Angel, Gustavo and the rest of the crew were a pleasure to work with! Don't waste your time or money with these guys there's literally a bunch of local and non local options that are so much better than these guys. Worked with them for 2 jobs and their work ethic and skill are completely laughable. The supervisor/foreman has 0 basic moving skills, the customer on both occasions i worked with them complained and couldn't wait to get the crew off their property. Foreman didn't even know how to carry a window sized piece of glass the customer had to shoo him away and do it himself. Very pitiful for them to call themselves movers and take your money to do it. Look up just about any other moving company, you'll be happier you did in the end. read more

It was a Christmas present, but my husband and I just couldn't move it on our own. Top Shelf showed up right on time, with a great attitude and got the job done! Warning. If you value your household goods, Do Not hire this firm. Absolute worst movers ever. I've moved 5 times over the last 15 years and these guys are hands down the worst, not even close and I've moved across the country before, this was about a mile move...maybe five blocks. First this guy arrives and I tell him the whole house needs to be packed and ready as we have to be out by tomorrow. He seemed competent and assured me he had it handled. Well he didn't, I'm a working man so couldn't stay home to watch them and when I came home that night only some of the kitchen and the closets in the bedrooms were packed. No furniture was broken down or wrapped. None of the electronics were wrapped. Nothing in the garage was packed. There was about 12 hours of work left and I had to be out by noon as the new owners were supposed to have their truck there that afternoon. Needless to say it was a nuclear trainwreck. I called the owner and he came out and said, "Yeah, they needed to be supervised....Gee, you think? These are your guys! You signed up for the job and knew the time line was tight, why didn't you supervise your team? I don't know, at least check when they're done to make sure the job is ready to go. They scrambled to meet the timeline and basically just threw all my stuff on the truck and hauled it on out to the property. There were damages. A dresser was gouged and will never be the same. The door on my refrigerator was put back incorrectly and did not close right. The bottom cover of the refrigerator was lost forever. My surround sound system, because it was not packed and was just thrown in a laundry basket, no longer works. They did send a very competent repair guy out who did his best to fix the dresser. It's usable but will never be the same. He also fixed the refrigerator door perfectly. The workers themselves on the second day who had to pick up for the prior days slack were hardworking and professional and it's not their fault. Their boss put them in a difficult situation. For what they charged, not worth it and wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. I will never use this firm again. read more

Top shelf saved me! I work at Vista Gardens Memory Care Community in Vista and needed to help a family move their dad's furniture and belongings in ASAP from the coast. Roy answered the phone on a SUNDAY and had guys available for the next day. Rates were reasonable and movers George and Josh were great and even texted me their ETA along the way. Only Choose Top Shelf if You Don't Have a Lot of Stuff The movers did a decent job, but Roy did not size the move correctly. I'd told him that I needed to move the contents of a 2-bdrm apartment plus a 10x25 storage unit (equating to a 4-bdrm house & 200 boxes) to my new house. I told him that the movers who delivered the stuff to my apartment & storage did it in one move. Unfortunately, he sent a truck so small they had to make 2 trips & still didn't move everything! They left items too large for me to move in my car, so I'll have to rent a truck to get the rest! Knowing the move was gonna cost me more due to needing to do 2 trips I opted to put together my own furniture. However, they didn't even hook up my refrigerator nor my washer & dryer! I'd told him on the phone that I had those items & he never said they wouldn't hook them up. When it was all done I didn't have enough cash to cover the bill (since it was 38% higher than expected) & he had the nerve to charge me an additional 5% for using a credit card! I've moved 4 times in the last 20 years & this was the worst move I've ever experienced! I would've done better getting a U-Haul & hiring the guys outside Home Depot! read more

I really hate giving anyone a poor review, but in the case of Top Shelf i feel I must. I contracted with Roy for a 3 hour minimum. The necessary items that I wanted him to move was a piano, a fridge, and a washer and dryer, plus anything else that would fit in the 3 hour time frame. I specifically asked for a truck with a lift gate for the piano and was told there would be one. When the movers arrived the truck did not have a lift gate which required they send another one from the Palm Springs area, which took over an hour to arrive. They successfully moved the piano onto the truck (thank goodness), but when it came to the fridge they determined (by sight) that it would not fit through the door. In the process they dropped one of the doors which broke several plastic trays and put several dents in the door. As they attempted to remove the second door I suggested they might measure the front door and simply take off the handles which then allowed it to get through. At the new house they took over 30 minutes to put the doors back on and the bottom freezer unit which now does not fit properly. I complained and all they could say was "we're not appliance people" to which I responded "then why did your boss send you knowing what was to be moved." In addition we had them pick up a sofa from another house near by. And one of them set a tool box or a bucket on a very expensive dinning room table, which we noted at a later date now has a large mar on it. In total they took over 5 hours to do the job, which Roy agreed to knock off one hour. I have moved numerous times in my life and I must say I have never had anyone do as badly as these guys did. I had booked with Roy for a local move, and he stated he would contact me a few days out of the move date to confirm everything. I never received a call, so I contacted him the day before to ensure they were still planning on moving us. Three guys (Angel, Gustavo, and Jameson) showed up on time. They were all pretty friendly. However, my dissatisfaction stems from the fact that on arrival to our new place, I noticed almost all of my wood furniture had been damaged in the move, along with my upholstered couch. Aside from not using moving blankets for transport, I'm unsure what the problem was, as our family has been forced to move long distances twice before in the last two years without a single piece of furniture sustaining damage. Upon contact of the owner, he was unapologetic and stated I could file a claim if I would like, but I must have receipts and before and after photos. How a former service member leaves an active duty military family high and dry is beyond me. Thanks for instilling an overall sense of distrust in all future moving companies. From now on, I'll be sure to have 360 degree views of all of my furniture. If you care about the condition of your furniture, you probably will want to use a different company. read more

OMG!!!!! If I could give zero reviews I would. The original owner Roy, was spectacular, he has moved many of my friends and moved me twice. Unfortunately, the company has been purchased by someone named "Billy, the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I initially called, texted and emailed, thinking I would receive the same outstanding service because I assume Roy, was still the owner, not only is he not the owner, but this company has been purchased by a subpar owner, with a modicum of customer service skills, and one who does not live by the code of, " my word is bond". After our initial conversation, I sent two text messages, asking for a simple quote - NOTHING! Sir, if you are going to take over another persons business that exhibited, superior customer service, previous customers will expect the same, and not mediocre, subpar - "Oh, I'm swamped" responses. Please know, that if this is how you conduct business, your business will fail. There are many other competitors, you are not Roy, and once people find out that this company has been purchased, you will start to loose business. I had three pieces of furniture damaged by the movers. One was a very expensive dining table that was left with several deep gouges - one being approx. 6 inches. One damaged piece I caught right away and the mover "repaired" it that day. The other pieces I didn't discover until the next day when we started moving stuff out of the way. I immediately called to report this to the owner. He seemed responsive. I then got two halfhearted phone calls back from the lead mover as an attempt to fix the problem. It has been almost 4 weeks and nothing has been done. I paid in cash and generously tipped the movers. I have no other recourse than to leave a negative review. read more

Very disappointed in this moving company. I hired them to move a 2 bedroom apartment and they took 8 hours to move!!! I moved from Oceanside to Scripps Ranch. They have zero regard for their customer's time and they even left items behind for me to move the next day. When I sent a bad review through the app I hired them through, I got an apology and excuses. When you hire and pay by the hour, understand that they will drag out the hours in order to get paid more. I am 44 y/o and have been moving since I was 2. This was by far the worst move I have ever experienced. I did my research and thought I was reading honest reviews about how quick they were, but I still cannot believe they would take 8 hours to move a 2 bedroom apartment. We had everything ready to go, the only thing they did that was extra was remove the legs from the couch to get it out the door.
