We just had Top Taco cater for a lunch after a company meeting. We've had them out before and needed a quick turn around. The service is great. Communication with the owner went smoothly and he made sure we had everything we needed and kept us well within our budget. Ricky and another team member came out to cook and prep the food. They were awesome. Now for the important part. I received very positive feedback from the employees. Food served hot and full of flavor. They were offered a mix and match option for tacos and we added dessert. We had plenty of great food and the leftovers were packaged up and those that missed lunch time, were able to have tacos and dessert later in the day. We catered for 100 meals and allotted for 2 hours. There's a wait time when the line builds up. Remember they're cooking and heating as they serve. Dropped in after hiking nearby. The pineapple agua fresca was perfect, not too sweet and so refreshing. All the tacos we tried were delicious: sirloin, barbacoa, pastor, chicharron, and egg w/ cheese. Even the charro beans were really good. It's not a huge place but it's got several tables. Looking for a nearby taco place, yelp guided us here. Like many have mentioned, this is a brick and mortar connected to a gas station, however you can use their parked food truck as a good landmark! The restaurant itself was clean but I did feel a bit uneasy as the person taking our order didn't wear a mask but luckily the cook did. We ordered about 20 tacos and really appreciated how they labeled the different tacos so we knew what was what when we got home. I was really excited to try their different salsas, especially the habanero that was labeled "hot!" but honestly all their salsas looked more menacing than they actually tasted and all quite bland. The flavor profile of their tacos is also on the more muted side so would be good for those who prefer less seasoned foods. Overall, I enjoyed their tortillas and their cheese was ooey gooey, I also think the amount of meat wasn't the skimpiest. However most of these tacos were just a bit bare by itself, but you are able to add onions, cilantro, and salsa. Oh and I will say the barbacoa and the al pastor were more flavorful, but not the migas/chicken/steak. My wife and I went to the Austin Opera three weeks ago on a Saturday night and we were surprised to find multiple food trucks after the opera was finished. Based off my research, I saw this food truck was hands down the best. Unfortunately I was unimpressed. Maybe it was an off night, but I wasn't a fan of the top sirloin tacos. I understand sirloin is known for being tough and chewy, but the tacos lacked flavor. I was also disappointed by their "hot sauce". It was more like a mild salsa. The guys behind him putting together there order we're crazy fast. Ready ripping and roaring assembling and grilling up ingredients for taco after taco. Took roughly 5 minutes to get our 8 taco order together and bagged up, lightning fast. I was a bit disappointed considering this taco shop had very high reviews. I waited in the restaurant for my tacos and got them fresh, but they were cold. The salsa was good, and the tortillas were very tasty. But the meat inside was very greasy and had a weird mushy texture. I got avocado on each taco, which if I try this place again I won't do that the next time. This was my first visit to their small brick & mortar location. I ordered 3 breakfast tacos and they were generously portioned. (I took one home with me as the first two were very filling.) The chilaquiles taco was by far the BEST. It had a generous filling and some good sour cream. Once tipped with a little pico de gallo from their small salsa bar, it was a perfect breakfast taco. Also, tried the egg, chorizo and cheese taco which was very tasty and not at all greasy. I sometimes won't order chorizo if I think it's going to be too spicy or greasy! Disappointing, I ordered a 4 taco combo for pick-up and had to wait in a line for 10 minutes before I could pick up lukewarm tacos. The meal was the bare minimum of 4 tacos with no avocado, no onions, no cilantro, and no salsa. I intentionally included these in my order, but everything was ignored. As soon as I held the bag, I felt that it was nearly as light as my wallet. Each taco had fillings as small as a mini street taco. The meat was mostly tender and moist but texture was iffy due to bits of greasy chewy/crunchy/fatty gristle. The flavor was lacking with just a hint of salt. If the garnishes were included, the flavor, texture, and heft would have been a bit better. Normally I do not rate places negatively, but this cost me almost $4 per taco which is the price for higher quality taco places that include good meat and more. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this place for basic tacos when there are other options in the area. For example, Buenos Sabores has more flavor, a unique homestyle twist, and more filling at a slightly higher price. Taco Deli has breakfast tacos that are cheaper, filling, interesting ingredient options, and decent salsas (jalapeno, habanero). To me, the ideal taco should be a cheap flavor-bomb. What I had today was neither cheap nor flavorful. read more
