I came here to celebrate my friend's birthfay and the service wasn't the most attentive. Our water carafe was never refilled in the whole time we spent there. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the server offered my friend a free shot or something off the dessert menu, she chose the churros. They never came so we had to ask for them. My drink was good but it was $19. The churros were amazing when they finally came out! When we received the bill there was a 20% service charge/tip, so we didn't tip in addition. My friend paid the bill and the server said "No tip?" which I think is a bit distasteful considering our experience with the churros, the water, and on top of that they charged for the churros?! The atmosphere of the restaurant was very trendy, but the music was up quite loud which made it difficult to hear people talk. The view of Portland is beautiful from the rooftop though! Unfortunately this restaurant is located in a part of Portland where there is a large homeless population with lots of drug use so I would recommend not leaving this place after dark for safety. The drinks were good but a bit overpriced. The NW Margarita was $16 and it looked to be about 8oz. The food was tasty, but the portions were small for the price. Vibes were good but that's it. Food: I had the fish tacos and it lacked seasoning. All I could taste was the sour cream they slather on the tortilla. The asada tacos were okay, nothing special. Not pictured were the carnita tacos, that meat was probably the best one but in all the tacos the tortillas were cold and almost stale-like. Drinks: I personally didn't have anything to drink but the people at my table said their drinks were really strong (in a good way), but they also didn't feel like the price was worth it. Overall this place seems a little too expensive. This feels like a place you'd go specifically for the vibes and view on the rooftop. . Visiting town for work and my coworker recommended Tope. So happy she did and that we were able to walk in and grab seats at the bar! Located at the top of the Hoxton Hotel, this trendy restaurant is a must visit! With windows all around the natural light shines in and provides cute views of the city, on a clear day you can even see Mt Hood. We got their Slyvan cocktails, along with the Atun Toastada and a pollo pibil. The food and drinks were amazing! On a snowy day in Portland, Tope had everything we needed when we checked into The Hoxton. They had this delicious margarita with a spiced rim. The food was large in portions, which is sometimes unexpected for a restaurant that looks like Tope. The spade is beautiful. The enormous table with a built in fireplace immediately drew my attention. There are plants everywhere, making it into a place that feels like a greenhouse with its light tones and colors all around. There is seating outdoors, tables in the back, and some high top seating overlooking "the city" (the gas station, parking lot, and billboard ads advertising chicken). They refilled on chips when they saw we had more queso to go (which was truly endless). The pollo tacos were abundantly full but the flavor of the braising liquid could have been kicked up. I LOBBIED for Tope as our spot Well.... we spent $300 for 6 people to have 2 pitchers of Margaritas (THE WORST weak ass sour af where is the tequila concoction), 2-3 tacos each ($6 each taco! meh and small and bland but not awful - is that OK if that is all they serve?) some chips & guac (like a mall food court set up) and a dessert that our adorable server tried to warn us against (she was correct - it was ugly & tasted weird) My comment as we rode down the elevator "This place has one HELL of a publicist" My brother in law's comment "Why have a restaurant like this if the food ISN'T GOOD?" 3 good things MUST also be acknowledged - The pretty hotel entrance - THE EPIC ROOFTOP VIEW and the very nice server who tried their best. One word summary: mid. To preface this review, upon arrival I asked if they have a queso dip, which I was kindly informed that they no longer have. I ended up ordering the chips, salsa and guacamole. That was all I had in terms of food, so perhaps the magic lies in the entrees, which appear to be extremely overpriced, even for being in the location that it is. Overall, this place was underwhelming. Such a cool spot with beautiful views yielding so much potential, but disappointing execution. You are definitely paying for the view here. The guac was bland, salsa had a burnt taste to it. The service was.. lacking. It wasn't super busy on a random Wednesday afternoon, and the server was nowhere to be found a lot of the time. For the price you are paying here... you may as well go to Portland city grill across the street for a much higher quality experience. Also... what is the 0.50 kitchen appreciation charge on my tab? The decor for this place was very inviting and had a good energy. Had some drinks at the bar and the bar and waitstaff were very friendly. The margaritas come out of a tap (or at least part of it does) which was not ideal and they were not cheap. For dinner we had chips and guacamole, shrimp, ceviche, the Chile verde, fish tacos, and our fiends had other types of tacos but I don't really remember which ones. Everything was just ok. Amazing vibe, highly recommend making a reservation since Saturday nights can get packed (available on resy). The food blew us out of the water. Amazing views, one of the better rooftop bars you can go to in Portland. It can get a little crowded on the patio, so if you have a big party I would recommend making reservations. The staff is super friendly and I love the atmosphere. The giant sky light in the middle is fantastic, and I'm kind of a huge sucker for plants. Food was decent but nothing too crazy to right home about. The chips with guac and salsa was good, but nothing stand out-ish. Salsa felt fresh with a slight kick to it and the guac was nice and thick. I had their pollo tacos which I would recommend. Cheese is grilled into the tortilla, for a great crunch and saltiness. The chicken itself was flavorful but I kind of wish for more pickled onions to offset the savoryness with a little more acidity. My wife had their fish tacos, which were a little underwhelming. Came across this spot on a social media post so hubby & I made reservations for our anniversary. The food was pretty good! There's not a ton of choices as far as the menu goes but that didn't bother us. The meal portions were small but filling enough for us. We enjoyed the carnitas tacos & tri tip tacos. As well as elote & a pitcher of margaritas. Our server Derek was great, he served us champagne & helped us inside as the weather on the patio was subpar. I've been wanting to check out the rooftop bar at Tope for a while! I was very surprised to find there was over and hour wait for a table for two at 8pm on a Friday. There isn't really anywhere to loiter while you wait and it's not exactly a safe or cool area to take a walk. You can go wait in the lobby bar or the basement bar (but you have to go outside and around the back to enter.) Once we finally got our table, service was OK. The server was clearly busy and didn't really provide and special attention, which is fine. I don't like to be checked on. We got the queso dip to share, I got the rockfish tacos and my fiancé had the chili Verde. Everything tasted good but honestly for what I got, $19 seemed overpriced. Ordered the chorizo queso and elote ribs to start, and shared an order of the fish tacos for two people. Was a little disappointed there weren't more spirit free drinks on the menu besides the house margarita and a few n/a beers. The queso portion was huge, way too generous for two of us. Elote was delicious, wish it was bigger. Also loved the tacos but also wished it came with more. A sunny day rooftop brunch is always a good idea. Especially here where you can sip on a tasty Fruity Pebbles sangria. The vegan breakfast tacos were delish and their guac is a revelation. Service is great, atmosphere is great. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the location. The riff raff make it a little sketchy to park your car and the hotel's valet didn't appear to be working the day I went. If/when Portland gets the unhoused drug use under better control, I'll revise the rating. read more

High points: the fish tacos, brussels sprouts with corn. The red salsa served with the chips was intriguing. They have blankets for diners on the patio. The decor is modern, non-committal. Nothing reflects the food being served. Service ranged from helpful and friendly to friendly and somewhat frazzled. To their credit it was the second day with the patio open; more seating, more patrons. Outside the view is exceptional, especially after our long winter. This review pains me, I want to like Tope more, but after a meal this expensive you want to remember more than the view. Excellent rooftop spot with a nice view of Mt Hood and Mt St Helens. Had some tacos (a bit pricey but good) and some drinks with some friends and it was perfect for a sunny spring day. Our super nice server Jessa told us about an event on the bottom floor of the hotel which we stopped at afterwards that had local art, a DJ spinning records, and complimentary drinks which was an awesome surprise addition to our visit. read more

Came to Tope on a Thursday evening. Super cute place, very trendy with nice indoor and outdoor seating. We got the chips/salsa/guacamole to start. Actually pretty big portion of chips. Also got a margarita and glass of rose. For dinner we got the carnitas and chicken tacos. They don't have a ton going on in terms of flavor, but they were pretty filling. Probably a 7/10 in terms of flavor. I definitely recommend using the red salsa from the chips and salsa to top the tacos with. The red salsa might have been my favorite thing I ate. Overall it is expensive. But a cute place with pretty good food and a great view! read more
