Welcome to Charleston, and with that said, seafood was on the menu. It was a choice between Top Sail and another highly rated restaurant. Top Sail was closest to our hotel, amd after a more than seven hour driving trip it won out. No reservation was required (middle of the week) we were able to get seating upon arrival quickly followed with the menu and offer for drinks. The waitress was knowledgeable and very responsive. I had never eaten Bronzini so I gave it a whirl. The mean consisted of the entire fish - head to tail. The food was well presented, hot upon arrival and quite favorable. My husband and I dined here for my birthday for a recent visit to Charleston. I had searched several restaurants as I wanted a lobster dinner. Truthfully? I had another restaurant in mind but somehow ended here. Fate works - HA! We were seated in less than 5 minutes and the wait staff was courteous and very professional. In addition, they were accommodating as I requested garlic smashed potatoes in lieu of the grits. The food was absolutely delicious. One or the best meals I've had in quite a bit. Topsail was really good. The food tasted great, the service was superb (thank you Joe), and the atmosphere was relaxed. The restaurant is a couple of blocks off Shem Creek and much less crowded then the restaurants on Shem Creek. You don't get the same view, but the food is just as good, if not better. The main eating area is set up around the bar. There are lots of bar seats, tables all around the walls, outdoor seating (some gliders) around gas fire pits, and some more tables off to the left. Nice restaurant in Mount Pleasant. Atmosphere was pleasant and it wasn't too noisy. I had the French Cut Pork Chop and it was good. Lots of options on the menu. We had mixed drinks and some wine. I had a group of 12 and they had space for us at the right time for our reservation. They were super friendly and explained to us all the options they had and were very understanding with everything. The food was also amazing!! The only thing stopping me from giving them a 5 star is that one of the waiters spilled some sauce from my meal on my dress, and when they had asked if they spilled any, I said yes. We've driven by for years and decided to give it a try. I wish we had kept driving. First tipoff the place was empty on a Friday night. We were seated and our server brought out complimentary hush puppies. They were possibly the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth; cold and tasted of old fish grease. We've made reservations at so many places during our honeymoon week with those notes on the reservation and this was the ONLY restaurant in Charleston which not only acknowledged it, but offered us dessert for it. (Sadly we were too full.) Food was good but we had shells in the she crab soup AND in both of our lobster and grits. Lots of shells. Very bummed about this. As a side note, I told the server about my severe allergy to clams and muscles and he went above and beyond to make sure none of our food was at risk and he let me know what was safe to eat after checking with the chef. I really wish there wouldn't have been so many shells in our food, it would have been a perfect 5. I'd still recommend this place though, especially because of the service. Awesome! The food was spectacular. Yes it's pricier but we'll worth it. I had the salmon entree and their Brussels sprouts were out of this world. This was our first time checking out the Shemcreek area since moving to Charleston. The area was a bit underwhelming but they clearly have some fantastic restaurants. We brought my mother in law to Topsail for her birthday and the restaurant didn't disappoint. Since moving here restaurants away any tourist trap seems to go above and beyond. Our server was excellent, very attentive and high energy. We started with the shrimp cocktail and lobster app along with some delicious daiquiri drinks. My wife and I had the whole branzino, amazing!!!!! Father in law had the burger, and mother in law loved the lobster pasta. Overall great experience! We will definitely be back! read more

Overall: Great service to compliment a quality meal! The good: The food was pretty good, but the service is what stood out for us. Our waiter (I can't quite remember his name, maybe Dean? ((He claimed to be the pastry chef/baker)) had a great sense of humor and was attentive. He made a self-proclaimed sexist joke at one point in the meal, and felt bad so he brought us out a free slice of chocolate cake (also helped that we were on our honeymoon, which he found out after). The cake was indulgent, moist, choclately, and simply incredible. The complimentary hush puppies were also a highlight, as was the lobster roll appetizer. The not-so-good: The ceviche was average. As a previous review mentioned ... not much curb appeal. Small parking lot available beside/behind restaurant. When you walk inside, it has a "beachy" vibe to it. I believe reservations are highly recommended. When I entered the restaurant, the hostess greeted/seated us right away (with a preexisting reservation). My party arrived an hour after opening and the place was nearly empty. My mom ordered the snapper (comes with brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes). Based off reviews - I ordered the seafood platter. Complimentary hushpuppies (4) were provided for the table. The snapper was large ... so come with an appetite! The seafood platter comes with a lobster tail, 2 scallops, 2 shrimp (with cheesy grits), 1 crabcake and asparagus. Overall, the entree was good, but I wish I ordered something else. The scallops, lobster and shrimp were cooked to perfection!!! The crabcake was all filling and I wasn't satisifed with the grits. Top notch service (thank you, Krista), White Sangria topped off with peach vodka ... those creamy deviled eggs, each, topped with a hunk of lobster claw ... and a whole pan seared red snapper, served with tons of fresh, roasted veggies and sliced fingerlings. Oh my! Original review If you read nothing else ... Topsail is top notch! I knew we were off to a good start when parking spots were plentiful and we were warmly greeted. While the layout is the same as the former restaurant, it's as if someone took a magic wand and transformed the establishment into one that is clean, modern and welcoming. There was seating on the covered porch and booths in the side room; however, we preferred the dim-lit, more, intimate dining room with its upscale feel and was seated at a table in front of a window, next to the large, gleaming, well-stocked bar. The menu is creative, thoughtful and seafood-forward. I appreciated the option of small plates as well as 'main course' entrees as I'm so over filling up on a bite here, a taste there. We were ready ... There's a great wine list, many craft and drafts to choose among and unique cocktails but we went with a simple house red and Bloody Mary, prepared with Mike's made-from-scratch mixer. The wine was a decent pour and the Bloody was perfectly chilled and blended with just enough zing to satisfy. How I love a good bread service and Topsail did not disappoint. Quick to arrive at our table was a basket filled with generous squares of moist corn bread and plump hush puppies that were warm and fresh (and thankfully not greasy) with plump kernels of corn peeking through which we slathered the wonderful whipped Cajun honey butter. We did not hesitate to go for a second basket ... it was that good! We started with the lobster deviled eggs. The order comes with 5 halves, filled high and oh, so creamy ... each, topped with a succulent piece of lobster claw meat. Though the cost ($11.00) seemed a bit pricey, you must have these in your life! We both selected the small ($8.00) Arugula Salad for our next course and yes, it was a great choice (though the Thai Coconut Soup with crab was a close second). Served in what I would call a cereal bowl, the ample portion was chock full of strawberries, toasted almonds, pickled red onions and morsels of goat cheese, blended and gently tossed with olive oil and finished with a fave of mine, balsamic glaze. My hub's Osso Buco was a winner with its WOW factor presentation and reasonable price ($21.00). A large, gently sauced, tender, fall off the bone veal shank was served high above generous portions of smashed potatoes and a fave, delicate, perfectly cooked haricots verts. Meat eaters ... you'll devour this! I opted for the large order of mussels, ($18.00) which was served with a generous portion of airy, crusty, toasted baguette for mopping up the delicious, well seasoned broth. Though the mollusks were small, the portion was huge. I was happy and filled. Though the desserts sounded yummy, we were full and happy so we passed on this last course. Our server, Jay, was friendly, helpful and attentive, checking numerous times throughout the meal to make sure we were not in need of anything. In fact, many people stopped by ... we like that. I so appreciated that Jay brought me a white napkin to avoid the possibility of lint on my white slacks from the black table napkins. Service was good - food was good albeit maybe slightly overpriced. We started with the muscles - which were very tasty. I did pretty extensive research on where to have dinner during my weekend in Charleston and Mt Pleasant. And Topsail looked perfect. Creative, but approachable menu with reasonable prices, and a great location. Thankfully, we got the last parking spot in the lot, behind the restaurant, right next to the dumpster and walked by an employee smoking a cigarette. Not the best first impression, I don't care if you're on break or not. We walked in and were sat in the side room, it was like the addition room to a house. I guess space is a little tight around that area. We started with two $10 bowls of she crab soup, and I wasn't impressed. It had too much sherry. I finished mine but mom asked for a Caesar salad instead, and it was covered with way too much dressing for her taste. Our entrée was one of a kind, a two pound whole red snapper, I think we got the second to last one. It came grilled and served with potatoes and vegetables. It tasted great, super fresh, and it cost $55, which isn't terrible for two people. The desserts didn't intrigue as at all, so we headed on our way. This is a really nice upscale restaurant close to the water in Charleston. The seafood here was really good! My lobster tail was a little over cooked and I would have liked some butter to dip it in but it was quite tasty. My scallops were cooked perfectly and were quite delicious as was the sauce. This place is also pretty expensive, so be ready to drop some cash but the service was really good and everyone had a great time here. We decided to spend our anniversary here and we were not let down! Our server Sydney was amazing from recommendations to letting us eat at our pace! She even surprised us with champagne which was a great surprise! My husband had an old fashion which he said was spot on, my drink was pretty and strong!
