A friend of mine told us about this spot and how good their avocado tacos were. It was taco Tuesday so my sister and I decided to try it out. When we went the vibe wasn't what we expected, but we gave it a try. I ordered a fried avocado taco, a Mr. Orange taco, along with chips and gucamole. My sister also ordered the same tacos, but she ordered a margarita on the rocks as well. We got our numbered buzzers and sat down. We snacked on the gucamole and chips. The guac could've used a lil more salt and pepper. Our tacos arrived and they looked delicious. We also asked for their salsas to try. All they're salsas were good. - Chipotle had a lil heat but not too much, tasted good mixed with the guac - Verde was a lil more refreshing, not too much heat - Salsa tasted fresh with a tad heat - Spicy salsa looked more like a sauce but tasty nonetheless with a good amount of heat - Not sure which taco came with the avocado crema but we each had it Tacos were delicious and full, def recommend trying those two. I visit Torchy's every time I'm in Dallas (which is typically once or twice a year). The vibe of the place is casual and fun. You order at the counter and take a number and they bring the food out to you. The serve breakfast tacos all day, which is one of my favorite things about this place. And the tacos are really large portions so a couple always fill me up. They serve Maine Root soft drinks which are fabulous and I always break my no soda drinking rule for these. We started this visit with a bowl of queso and chips. The queso was amazing. I would however ask to leave off the drizzle of Diablo sauce next time, as the queso had plenty enough spice for me without it. I then had a Migas Taco and an Alabama Shake. The Migas is favorite of mine and I get it each time I come. I love the crunch of the corn tortillas mixed in with the eggs and pico. This was my first time trying the Alabama Shake and I thought it had a good mix of flavors and textures, with the crunchy slaw nicely complementing the catfish. Unfortunately, it was way too spicy for me and I had trouble finishing it for this reason. I'd probably go with something else next time, but if you can handle a lot of heat, you might love it! My husband ordered The Wrangler, and OMG, this was delicious. There was so much flavor packed into seemingly simple ingredients. This is a frustrating review because I was one of the original customers when Torchys was just a small food trailer in a south Austin neighborhood. At that time, this conservative always got the Democrat taco... but I don't anymore. Why? Because the Dallas location I use and one of the first in Dallas just can't maintain their consistency and quality. While always an issue when restaurants become a chain, this location is especially frustrating. This place is a solid 5 stars on a good night and a mediocre 3 on another. Large quest w loose lids, dry Democrats, sloppy wet chicken fajita and lots of missing sauces, wrong sauce, no sauce. Details... it's all about the details and holding a high standard. I leave this review in the hopes that corporate will reach out to this location and put these managers on notice. In turn, I hope that they put their employees on notice. Tacos shouldn't be wet. Sauces should be full and capped tightly. Have pride ... the original trailer would kick your butt on everything you sell. Get better & be better. Be accountable. Don't tell a DoorDash customer that you didn't screw up the order after he drove to your location to show you. Own it and fix it. Torchys is one of my absolute favorite taco places. They have a huge variety of tacos, and now they have a couple salads on the menu. Their queso is one of the best out there, literally in all of Dallas. The guacamole is ok, not amazing but above average. Tacos are amazing!!! They let you customize them (no cheese, flour instead of corn, things like that) and they are great about getting your preferences right. They also do a taco of the month that is usually fun to try something different. Ordered churros for the first time , along with tacos, chips and queso plus guacamole and some drinks. Had to ask for beverage cup( no big deal). I asked 2 different associates if they knew how to activate the reward and no one knew how . Drove home and realized that my dessert was not in the bag. I used to get the red salsa at another location and some how it just didn't taste right here , still good. The place wasn't crazy busy at the time which makes sense because it was a Sunday night, and it was clean overall! The staff was nice. The starter came out almost immediately after ordering, and the food followed within a few minutes later. I devoured my fried avocado taco in 4 bites having my boyfriend ask me if it was good, sarcastically. He loved his trailer park and Baja fried shrimp tacos as well. Torchy's Tacos is a restaurant that serves some really creative tacos. Now, their tacos have tortillas, and that's about the only thing have in common with a real taco. But don't let that fool you, these are some of the tastiest creations in Dallas. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The Torchy's off Preston is great as they have a nice border which separates the line with the dining area. This is great because it keeps people from being table vultures and grabbing a table before ordering. Which means they're usually pretty busy starting around 11:30. The noon rush can be pretty hectic. They have a great system but sometimes it gets way to busy. 1/2 Star. Service - Even though there is no true wait service, the staff is GREAT at running food out, cleaning up your baskets, and cleaning/turning tables. While the line can move slowly sometimes, the crew that manages the main dining area is top notch and will help find a table if needed. 1 Star. Food - Sure, they're tacos I guess, but really the tortillas exist only to hold Torchy's creative goodness. There are so many different tacos to fulfill your need. For me, I prefer the Ranch Hand (eggs and beef), the Chicken Fajita, and the Democrat (beef barbacoa). You really can't go wrong, the cheese and salsa are fresh, and the flavors are as unique as the names. Also, their queso is some of the best out there, with just enough heat cheese flavors. I don't remember specifically which one I got, I know it was a really spicy one with chicken (with some side of sauce that was hot as hell), if that helps. It really was good. I really cant complain about price. I just felt like I was getting jipped. The chips and queso were really good too. All in all it's a damn good taco. I think fair market value would be about $1 off what they currently off charge and to keep better tabs on the dinning room. The staff was courteous tho and the place is really casual. This place is the bomb diggity. I lived in San Antonio for a few years and regularly made an excuse to visit Austin for my Torchy's fix. When I moved to Dallas, I won't say that I picked my apartment based on proximity to Torchy's locations, but it didn't hurt to be on the same road, albeit a few miles down. There is a decent amount of parking in the strip mall area and it's kind of nice that it's not in the trendy (read: packed with d-bros) part of town. Now that the remodel brought a bar, you can go with family or friends and hang out. The staff is always nice and quick to fulfill the orders. Even in the morning, there are large orders served with a smile. I do wish there was bar seating, but they have a decent tap selection, so that'll do! Oh, and the tacos? They're sublime. FRIED. AVOCADO. You don't think you like it? I don't think we can be friends. True Texans know everything is better fried and if it's green inside, it's healthy too. All the salsas are tasty and they're super nice about letting you have all of them if you want. Breakfast tacos all day; whoever said eggs are only for breakfast must be funded by the Dinner PAC.
