I found Torchy's through a gluten free app as we are visiting the area and we were blown away. The tacos were stuffed full of deliciousness and the queso - oh gosh, add the chorizo! This was my first time at a Torchys. My coworkers have raved about it so I decided to try it on my day off. I was more than just disappointed... I was disgusted! I get half way though my Migas taco and find a hair weaved into my eggs. So I throw the rest away. I open my Wrangler taco to inspect it for hair and then find that it had bacon on it, which is not supposed to be there. I cannot eat bacon so I had to throw that one away too. I was hungry and craving a solid breakfast taco. I knew Torchy's was the spot to go to. I've never been to this location before so I decided to check it out. I walked in, was pleasantly surprised to see there is a full bar. I sat down and was greeted by this adorable cute bartender named Roberto. He was so sweet and unbelievably helpful. He took in consideration my dietary restrictions and helped me decide on which breakfast tacos to get. Rob was great at conversation and very attentive to me and all the other patrons at the bar. This location is honestly just pathetic. Every employee I have ever encountered, here, has had the worst attitude. My visits have usually involved getting breakfast tacos to go. There's a particularly miserable girl who works the register. I don't know her name, but, she wears glasses and has cylinders in her ears. This girl has zero customer service skills and behaves as if taking your order is the most painful thing she's ever had to endure. Additionally, I'm not sure if she's just intellectually stunted, but, there's really no reason to repeat someone's order back to them four times. Once should suffice. Then, when the guy comes out to bring your order from the kitchen, he simply tosses it on the table and bends down to read the receipt before walking off. He's a real gem. He and the girl at the register seem made for each other. Finally, miserable employees, with no customer service skills, are usually a reflection of poor management. Good tacos at a good price. I got the Mr. Pink and Alabama Shake tacos. Both were good but Mr. Pink was better. I also got the street corn (I eat a lot ) and it was delicious. I am giving it four stars because of the service. It took almost 45 min for us to get our food! That is way too long for Torchy's. When I complained, they said that they have been backed up. I will come another time and see if the food service is still slow. In addition, they didn't have anyone come to pick up the dirty plates. I know people are supposed to throw away there own trash but if they don't, I would expect the staff to clean it up so it looks nice and the next person doesn't have to clean it up. read more

Torchy's has several locations around town and this may be my favorite. It's located in the downtown area of The Heights that walkable and overall looks really cool. They have a small parking lot in the back and we were able to find a spot for a late lunch on a Saturday. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They have a couple picnic style tables outside but most of the seating is indoors. They have a few TVs as well and were showing some college football bowl games. Unlike other locations, they serve alcohol. I've been on two other occasions but on this trip, I ordered a frozen mango margarita. We all know what Torchy's is. Craft tacos that aren't authentic but use interesting ingredients. My go-to's are their chips and queso (has a quick to it) and the Democrat. Always make the Democrat trashy which means you take out the lettuce and add queso for an upcharge. My second taco varies and I tried a new one this time as they had several new items on the menu. The one knock I have about this location is how they bring out your food. The same thing happened to me twice. They bring your alcohol out last. We received our chips and queso first, about ten minutes passed, then we received our tacos, and a minute later, we received our margs. The alcohol should come out first, come on Torchy's! read more

I asked the cashier if I could get a table cleaned and she attempted but only swept the trash onto the floor. Then, there wasn't a drink lid or straw anywhere but at the bar. I asked one employee for a straw and he told me there wasn't any while looking right at the stash at the bar. This location is a disaster compared to all the others I have visited in the Houston area and will never visit again. The only reason I gave 2 stars is due to the employee DJ. Torchy's award-winning queso is a must try! The queso is flavorful with Torchy's Diablo sauce, cotija cheese, and some guacamole mixed in. Even better, it comes with hot, fresh tortilla chips from the kitchen. Yeah, okay, people will complain that these aren't "real" traditional tacos, but they're missing the point. They're delicious! My favorites are The Wrangler and Fried Avocado. You can customize almost anything from tortilla type to sauce to substitutions or toppings. I gave this restaurant two stars because the food was decent. However, it was hard for me to eat it because the restaurant was not clean. First, there was water dripping from the ceiling onto the table into my glass, and then I saw dead cockroaches on the floor, one of which stuck on the bottom of my friend's shoe on the way out. NEVER NEVER NEVER would you see anything in South Texas (much less Mexico) that slightly resembles this apparently successful pandering to unknowing Gringo palettes. The poorly heated tortillas (probably kept in a steam table) fall apart after being loaded in a taco bar style assembly line (the eggs are cooked separately and sausage, chorizo, and cheese etc. are tossed on top, as opposed to integrated during the egg cooking process.) If you're into Mexican / Tex-Mex that is what Chef Boyardee is to ravioli -- run, don't walk, to Torchy's -- you'll love it! Order was placed at 7:49, cold food receive at 8:09, you do the math. I don't need a lecture, I need the staff to do it's job. I don't need hostilities, I need the dinner we paid for. I've had issues with this location in the past, but looked passed them due to COVID and the economic hardship associated with lockdowns. No longer. I won't support this local establishment, I won't recommend it, and the next time I get the itch for an unsolicited lecture from a server, I'll take my business to Dick's Last Resort. read more

We decided to come here after helping my sister-in-law move to here new place in the heights. It was a great choice after doing some moving/packing and really did hit the spot. The place was busy but not packed. The service was good except the cashier was in a hurry to get us through, so I decided to get our drinks at the bar. The food was great and reminded me why Torchy's is a great place to go even if it isn't a real authentic taco place.
