Today we stopped in for breakfast burritos and tacos. Pros: The restaurant was clean, and the takeout area was well organized. The bar area looked nice. There were plenty of TVs throughout the space. Great for a large party. Cons: The self-service ordering kiosks are a good idea in theory, but they don't work well without an associate available to help customers. Everyone seemed to take a long time placing their orders, which slowed things down. As for the food, I left still hungry after receiving just one small taco. The taco itself wasn't flavorful unless I added salsa. Overall, the experience didn't meet my expectations, and I wouldn't return. Tip: Please have an associate available to assist with ordering, especially for first-time customers like me. A little guidance would make the ordering process much smoother.

Staff who took our order was super friendly and let us know one order of nachos were big enough to feed two people and they were right! The inside of the restaurant was extremely cold so we sat outside and it was perfect. We chose the brisket nachos and they were excellent just the right amount of spicy.

My husband and I stopped by Torchy's for lunch because we were starving, and I had one question in mind: does the queso live up to the commercial? I could drink that queso, so I had high hopes. Ordering was off to a weird start since everything is done on a touchscreen with no greeting, and the system feels more complicated than it needs to be. The taco menu is messy and not very appealing...why is there teriyaki sauce on a taco? The only thing that caught my attention was the steak fajita taco, which I never order at a real taquería, but we went for it anyway. We ordered two steak fajita tacos, a Crossroads taco, pinto beans, and the Hillbilly Queso. The staff was friendly when they brought the food and service was quick. The queso was delicious, the pinto beans were good but could be better, and the tacos were the biggest disappointment: all the tortillas were cold, the steak had a nice grilled flavor, and the brisket was dry. I've had gourmet tacos with bold, thoughtful combinations (even grasshoppers)and street tacos made from every part of the cow, but Torchy's combinations feel like a 4‑year‑old raided the fridge and threw random things into a taco as a joke. I'd come back for the queso and that's about it.

The food was okay. I was expecting more from torchy's as far as flavor and garb. The tacos were subpar and the Barbacoa was greasy. Maybe the food wasn't that great because we had takeout. I'm just very disappointed this is my third time trying torchy's and I keep giving it chance because everyone always says great things about this place. Would love for them to live up to the greatness everyone speaks of.

I love love the Ace of Spades taco on the secret menu and today's was super yummy! The restaurant and bathrooms were clean, service was friendly and the Michelob Ultra draft beer was in a frosty glass. It was a great stop after kayaking on Lake Woodlands in the August heat.

Huge, tasty tacos for good prices. Their sauces were impressive for a chain, esp the bacon marmalade. The jerk chicken was bland but otherwise, 9/10 experience.

So if you've been following my laundry list of foodie shenanigans, you know I highly value amazing interaction, which is why I like sitting at the bar. So today was special, I dragged my bro to the gym and after we were spent, we went for Tacos. We almost pick somewhere else, but we lucked out in a major way. The Nitty Gritty When we walked in it was quiet, clean, and the bar was nearly empty. I could hear the barstools beckoning us like Homer's sirens, and thus we crashed out ship upon their padded tops. Our bartender was Ashley. She was warm, welcoming, and the vibe was like when you meet that old friend you haven't seen in forever... and they just happen to be a bartender at Torchy's (no... not the free drinks kind). She hooked us up with a copy of the new secret menu (gonna say here that Tipsy Chick needs to come back). I had The Matador, and The Ace of Spades, which we came to the conclusion that when anyone orders the Ace of Spades they should sing it like Motorhead. It made the ordering so much fun. Both tacos were loaded and omg good af. You have to check out the picture. We had house Margaritas (because we earned them at the gym). All in all Ashley gave us a dining "experience" that was refreshing, kind, engaging, and all around awesome. She was the cool bean serving the awesome sauce and I will absolutely be back. I will drag Sam with me... again. Ask for Ashley. Tip her well bc she deserves it. Stay awesome.

    Torchy's forgetting my tortilla chips

I'm sad that this place has bad reviews. Because genuinely from my recent visit, I was moderately happy. I recently had a bad experience at the conroe location with terrible service, so I was delightfully welcomed to a calming environment, in a convenient location, with workers who were nice and compassionate. Not only is the service nice, but their hours are an extra 30 minutes longer than most torchy's. The food was very consistent and even though we took take out, we were very happy with the tacos. But on the downside, we also ordered chips and salsa and when we made it home there was no chips in sight, just salsa. So we ended up having to drive to HEB to grab tortilla chips. While it was a fun adventure, it was not fun getting ready to eat and seeing that what you paid for wasn't there. If you're in the area and have never had torchy's tacos before. I definitely recommend giving this place a try. But if you're taking takeout, make sure to check the bag before you drive off.

For anyone that grew up…read moreor previously lived in SoCal or Baja Mexico, this is a much provided relief from the usual tex-mex cuisine in the Houston area. I chose 3 specialty tacos, the Mar Y Tierra, Baja Shrimp and the Ensenada. I was hoping to find Baja style tacos as great as the ones I used to eat regularly in San Diego. So does this place live up to the hype? Mar y Tierra - the first taco I tried and it was really great. Very colorful as far as presentation. Lots of steak chunks and I loved the thickness of the homemade corn tortilla. 5/5 Baja Shrimp - this was good as well, but pretty standard and not on the same level as the other two. 3/5 Ensenada - comes with 2 tortillas to accommodate the large piece of fried fish, really good taco as well. Maybe breading was slightly on the salty side. Seemed to be beer-battered. 4/5 I also added a fountain drink. During my visit their sodas were down 2 options, no coke and no iced tea. They did have horchata and jamaica flavored drinks on their fountain machine, so I wasn't too upset about the lack of iced tea. I ended up getting the Jamaica drink. The service here was not the best, especially the unfriendly cashier, but aside from all that, I came for the food, not to make friends. You order at the counter, find a seat, get some sauces and garnishes from the salsa bar (mainly for take out customers), and they will bring the food out to you. The ambiance is okay. They have an end cap in the shopping center so the space has plenty of natural light. Decor is black, white and then colorful with a couple of blue and red accent walls. Chair cusions are also colorful, along with colorful flowers at each table and colorful art work. They also have an Instagram worthy wall for those interested. Their chairs and tables are lacquered and a little worn. Not sure if they're supposed to be like that or not. They do have 6 beers on tap and have 4 different bottled beers too...so they really are true to their name; however, I didn't order any.

I'd wanted to try La Cocina for a while for that reason and those plans finally came to fruition. You walk up to a counter that has all the ingredients for taco making right in front of you. The guy asks you how many you are going to want, and if you want flour or corn, so he can let them know in the back to make your tortillas fresh. About 2 minutes later, out came our tortillas. I ordered 3: one with eggs and bacon, one with some kind of egg and sausage combo and one non-breakfast taco with fajita meat. The fajita taco was just okay, but the breakfast tacos had me thinking about them for hours after the fact. They aren't very big, so if you're a growing boy like me, I'd aim for 4-5 of them. The guy behind the counter tried to guide us into his suggestion of 2 each, but I jumped in and said make it 3 for me. If I could go back in time, I would have done 4 and made them all the breakfast variety. Both breakfast tacos were straight bangers from another dimension. All the sauces were great and none were too spicy. I might have to return to this place sooner rather than later because I really did think about it the rest of the day. I love you, La Cocina.

But you can park across the mall street and walk over, just be careful when crossing traffic. Inside the place is beautifully decorated with culture and colors. Enjoyed that about the place. We checked in and promptly got seated, our initial seating was next to a window, but also next to the waiter order entry computer. Between that and my friend sitting in a wicker chair that has seen better days because she was falling into it, we requested to be moved. Our next seating was better with standard seats, but definitely crowded all around between the tables and waiters squeezing thru, made you feel packed like sardines. I get they want more patrons, but it feels a bit suffocating having everyone so bunched up like that. So much so, that when the tables behind me requested their meal that comes with a fire presentation, I felt that on the back of my neck, I wondered, Am I having hot flashes? No, just the fire blazing closely behind me. Additionally, the noise level is loud where I could barely hear my friend across the table or the waiter talking to me, I had to ask to repeat what he said many times. Our waiter, Christian, was very friendly and attentive. Since it was our first time dining there, we had questions on some items since this wasn't TexMex nor Mexican food that I had tried. So much so that if you like grasshoppers, you can have them added to your guacamole or some other offerings. I wasn't feeling rebellious enough to have tried that, so we passed. As an FYI, chips and salsa are not complimentary, you have to order them as the Salsas & Tostadas, you're provided with 3 different salsas, each with its own spice level. The main thing for me is that our main meal lacked flavor/seasoning. I got the Enmoladas (Mole de Rancho) which were smoked chicken enchiladas. Served with a side of Swiss chard. They tasted fresh, but when it came to a punch of flavor, we got none. The chard was not specifically something I enjoyed nor finished eating. We requested salt, which we didn't want to do, but adding the salt to the Enmoladas helped bring some flavor. Saw they have a brunch offering and would like to return for that and try some of their other drinks.

I imagined I'd get crispy breakfast potatoes.. but they were unsalted boiled mushy potatoes. 3. Even the salsas tasted like they had no salt. None of the food was seasoned or even spicy. I think I used half the salt shaker to add salt to my food. I want this place to get better because I want a non-corporate Mexican restaurant near me, but this place was disappointing.

I have nothing to criticize here. Burritos are delicious, portions are generous, sides are awesome,…read moreaguas frescas are refreshing, employees are nice, online ordering is easy, and the drive-thru is convenient! Highly recommend their California Burrito (steak, fries, guac) and Surf 'N Turf (steak, garlic shrimp, garlic rice). I normally don't eat much steak/red meat, but I always cave here because of how tender and flavorful their steak is (and all of their proteins too, tbh). Definitely get a side of garlic sauce and elote, they are some of the best I've tried in Houston. - Ambiance: 5/5 - Food: 5+++/5 - Service: 5/5

We stopped by on a Monday morning to grab a couple of burritos. The establishment is fairly small,…read morewith a few tables, a tv, and counter ordering. We were approached by a young lady who appeared to be working solo. Nevertheless, she was nice and welcoming. We ordered a bacon egg and cheese burrito, and an Al pastor burrito with rice, beans and cheese. The burritos were ginormous and unfortunately I could only eat half. Although the quantity was appealing, I personally think more attention needs to go to the quality of the ingredients. The el pastor just seemed to be of poor quality and lacked flavor. We also ordered chips and cheese which the cheese was super thick and also poor quality. Service was good despite the young lady working solo. Food quality could use some help.
