Went with a group of friends for breakfast. 10/10 recommend trying brunch here. We got the blue corn pancakes and were blown away at how different they were from most other pancakes. Our server was Jose and he hooked it up with a ton of free booze. If you're out there Jose, you are the man! New favorite brunch spot for sure. read more

Went to Toro Bravo Friday evening. The place is not sure of their identity with food and atmosphere. The are a few tables but mostly shared booths similar to a diner style restaurant. We had made a reservation and confirmed said reservation. But they could not find it when we arrived. They did try to accommodate us by moving things around but I think this created the downward snowball. Once seated we waited for 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. We did proceed to order drinks at this time. As we waited and waited we decided to order food since it was taking such a long time. Our server was running frantically but could only stop by and tell us are drinks were coming. We ordered the following and shared them family style. Blue corn bread Ceviche peacado Papas bravas Door de bananas Frijoles charros All were very good. Unfortunately drinks still did not come until after we had started our dinner almost an hour from sitting down. (The drinks once they arrived were also good) Our server obviously felt very bad and gave each a shot for sitting through this. As we were finishing she asked if we would like another drink which we did order. The service did not get any better after waiting what seemed like another 30 minutes we decided to cancel our drink order and pay the check. They were nice enough to comp our drinks. I hope that as the staff becomes familiar with everything service will improve and I will come back to update my review here are the good and bad. read more

We had an amazing experience at Toro Bravo. Food was amazing, and the service was fantastic too. We ordered the papas bravas, ceviche, Brussel sprouts, and the special Ribeye Cap. Everything has such good flavors that felt specially selected and outside the ordinary. Our server was also so kind and even was able to accommodate our ask for a virgin margarita. Had so much fun and the cost was reasonable for such an elevated experience. read more

Went here with group of 11 a couple days ago and 6 of us got some of the most horrific food poisoning. All 6 of us needed to go to the ER. I'm not sure from what dish caused this since we all ordered something different, but if I had to guess it was our shrimp tamale appetizers - which is disappointing since it was quite tasty. The service was good too, but that was too traumatic of an experience for me to go back. read more

The scallops were our favorite, but the mixed was a very close second. The homemade tortillas and tostados enhanced a beautiful complex seasoned dish. The fig leaf martini also stood out. read more

Incredible good. The service was so attentive and even accommodated us early for dinner. We ordered food family style. Starting off with charred Brussels sprouts, oven roasted Cali flower, an gratin potatoes with Fontina cheese and Gruyère cheese and the Prime skirt steak. The star plate was the appetizer - Tamal De Cameron , sweet corn creamy polenta, garlic cream sauce , tiger prawns served in tamale decadence. Absolutely best cocktail was the El Perdido , cucumber vodka with lime cilantro and basil. You must try it all - clean, wonderful atmosphere . And by the way, the bathrooms were spotless ! Made reservations for a special birthday dinner for nine on Sunday. Was not aware the menu shown on line would not be available. The whole party was disappointed that all the sides we wanted to try would not be available on their Sunday brunch menu and limited regular menu for Sunday. Enjoyed business dinner this week on the patio. Menu is very limited, as is their bar selection. They have no beers on tap. Forgot one dinner in a group of six. All of us had to ask for water or other drink refills. Had to ask for tortillas that came with one of the menu items. Felt rushed, was clear they wanted to turn over table even though they were 60 percent or more empty and we were not lingering and were sat at 430, and left by 630. Won't be back. read more

My husband and I along with our best friends went to dinner at Toro Bravo this evening. The ambiance, service, and food were all phenomenal. We had the delicious apple salad, blue corn bread, sweet potato gratin, au-gratin potatoes and filet Mignon. We each split the filet mignon and shared all of the family style sides. I stopped into this spot because it had a 5-star review on Yelp. I was looking for a great steak, so when I saw a $72 'Prime Ribeye Noteno' my hopes were high!what was dropped at my table was ... a ribeye, but it was 1/2" thick with a side of roasted onions and a garnish of micro-greens and cabbage, 1/2 lime and (6) tortillas. I guess the idea was that I make my own street tacos! Granted ingredients are expensive and only getting more-so, but this seemed like a $35 cut, not a $72 cut! The flavor was good, but damn... it seemed thin! The margaritas were delicious and the service and atmosphere were excellent with a patio right next to the River! If / when I come back, I think I will not be ordering that SEVENTY TWO dollar Ribeye. Shame on me for taking the bait ! read more

We were visiting Reno and walking along the river walk and found this place for lunch. We were greeted with a smile and escorted to a beautiful table and very comfortable chairs. One would think this is a Mexican restaurant, but it really isn't. There were four of us in our party and two of us had the wings and the other had the breakfast enchilada. The food was amazing. Not too spicy and not too bland, just right. The service was exceptional. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in Reno. read more

Service was horrible as there were 2 bartenders and the one guy never asked us if he can help and the place was not that busy; they have a happy hour but both of these bartenders did not state it was nor did we get HH prices; hot food plate came out COLD; they did get it right on the 2nd try, but did no apologize or ask to get this taken off the check. We went this evening, we had a reservation but had to wait for a table near the bar to be set for us, not seated in dining area. The menu was good with beautiful plate presentation. (I forgot to take pics!) We ordered halibut, pork shank, ribeye and three sides. The ribeye was $72 and tough - the steak knife had to really work at it. The rest of the food was tasty. Staff all very pleasant but clearly haven't worked out the kinks with timing of drinks, food, etc. . Tonight was their grand opening after a few weeks of a soft opening. We will give it a month or so and try again to see if the service and timing improves. Would recommend but with the understanding that it is a new restaurant that still needs to get into a better state of flow. read more

Amazing food, great service and it was lovely sitting by the river enjoying my lunch. I had the Tostada with steak. The tostada had juicy pieces of steak served on a crispy homemade corn tortilla. On top of the steak was a fresh type of sprout and topped with a jicama shaped flower. I highly recommend this place and will go back again! read more

This was definitely a WOW experience! I give them a little grace since we were there for the official "day 2" of their opening. Other than running a little behind, the food came out perfectly (temp, presentation, taste) and the atmosphere and service was excellent. I had the char-grilled octopus and wow, was that awesome! My wife had the NY steak with bone-marrow butter, we also had the shrimp tamale and the....actually, let me go there. I'm Mexican. Born-and-raised in El Paso, Texas, I was exposed to many MANY tamales. I say that because the tamale served at Toro Bravo was nothing like I've ever had before. This tamale was not "firm" and had a consistency of something like thicker grits. All I know is it was delicious and the shrimp with it was perfect. We look forward to going back and trying EVERYTHING on the menu. Bravo, team! read more

The Reno food scene remains a challenge. I'm baffled by the people who gave this place 5 stars and wonder which restaurants they're comparing it to. The decor and ambiance was chic, modern with elevated Spanish undertones. The service and staff were welcoming, attentive. The location on the river is ideal for a warm summer night. We came on a Monday night and sat at the bar which was also pleasant. The menu sounded delicious and impressive. But, I can't give it two thumbs up. The food was ok and definitely not worthy of the expensive price tag. But that's very typical Reno. Overpriced and underwhelming. The paella was the most depressing. Chorizo were thin dried discs. Shrimp, mussels and clams were tiny. The rice was overcooked and the whole thing tasted more like fried rice than authentic Spanish paella. The seafood empanadas, steak tostada and grilled octopus were better but nothing left me craving for more. The drinks looked pretty but could have used more sugar and tasted a little watered down and bland. Sigh. Then the bill came and the fine print (not previously disclosed) said we're charging the customer the credit card fee. Ugh. The ultimate pet peeve!! First, it's the cost of doing business. Second, if you're charging $45+ per entree, you can afford to absorb that fee or work it into the cost somewhere else. I can't stand places that nit pick the little things after I've spent over $200 on a meal. It's tacky. read more
