Okay wow! Saw the $20 marg pitchers on Mondays and couldn't resist. I moved here 2 weeks ago, I LOVE trying new places but have only ate out three times so far. Grappa, Los Panchos, and Toro Cantina. I wasn't disappointed once! It was refreshing to see managers out on the floor helping and checking in with tables, Katie from Toro especially! Get over to Toro's, ask for Ally as your server. We went with a group of friends from out of town and had a great time. The bartenders were very attentive while we waited for our table and the cocktails were delicious. The hostess was happy to accommodate us adding an extra friend to our reservation at the last minute. Our server provided great recommendations and was awesome about checking in. One friend has Celiacs and everyone did an amazing job ensuring whatever he ate was indeed gluten-free. We really, really wanted to like this place. We waited 15-20 mins for water and menus. The carne asada looked like dog food and the jackfruit tacos were just as bad. We ate 1.5 tacos each before we couldn't take any more. We waited 30 mins just to get our check. Please save your money and don't believe the hype. Way over priced. read more

Ok where to begin , went to Toro Cantina last week was annoyed as web site said they opened at 11 am we were killing time early lunch at 11:30 nope, owner changed opening time to 12 noon so we went to BJ warehouse ! So went back today after 12 noon and after driving 45 minutes to get there was told would not serve no reservation for lunch!! Was very rude another hostess suggested bar seating we said ok but the rude hostess said no could not seat us there ! We left stated i was done will not recommend i don't care how good the food is the if staff is this rude not worth my time BB or money!!! read more

Would like to give this more stars as the food is decent and margaritas are delicious, however we stopped in for a quick bite today, on Cinco de Mayo just after opening. While there was plenty of space at bar, they were short of petitions so we were not able to sit there. When we then asked for a table in the bar area, they said they were not taking walk ins and would not be able to accommodate us today. I've had Toro over and over for take out during 2020. Food had been great, particularly the sauces and barbacoa even on the carry out. I've had several friends who dined in prepandemic w bad service experiences but I still wanted to try it for myself especially given the great food I've gotten on carryout. It saddens me to report a 6 top for an approximate 8 pm dinner reservation received some of the worst service I've ever experienced. We were ignored for about 10 minutes at the hostess stand. Not a how are u or welcome just NOTHING. We our offered our name for the reservation and time and the response was "ok" and then no words or interaction just my party waiting and listening to the team talk amongst themselves about being in the "weeds" and who the people were in front of them (includes my party n two others). interrupted and asked if they could tell us if we would have to continue to wait or would soon be seated they advised we would be sat IMMEDIATELY. We were not but rather sat about another 10 minutes later. From reaching our seats at about 8:25 it took 30 minutes to get drinks and we didn't get our dinner until about 10 pm. Our server never acknowledged the long waits let alone apologized for any of it. Nearly all meals were delivered to the table incorrectly and our server disappeared after delivery. My party feared if they waited for the proper order their 2 hour wait for a meal would become 3. I on the other hand waited for our server to check back to correct my food. By then my party had finished their food. I ended up explaining to the server why I didn't eat my meal and how horrendous the experience had been. We were met by a short haired female manager moments later not to apologize or comp my mealnor dessert but rather to chastise me for using the word "$hitty' to describe my experience to the server. Our family made a reservation for Sunday evening at 8:15 for 8 people, for my daughter's birthday, at the location on Wolf Rd in Colonie, NY. We had asked for an earlier reservation, but this was told that the 8:15 reservation was the only time that the restaurant could accommodate our party. The restaurant was aware we were coming in for a birthday. We arrived at 8pm and were sat at 8:15, after being seated an employee arrived several minutes later with several baskets of chips but we waited for about 10 minutes before a waitress, Lee, came over and took our drink order. The waitress was in a hurry and did not even bother to ask the last two people at our table what they wanted to drink. When the waitress arrived with drinks, several minutes later, she said she would be right back but was gone for a long period of time. We were finally able to place our dinner order 30 minutes after being sat, as well as order the other two people's drinks. The kid's meal we order arrived quickly, which was greatly appreciated but the rest of the meals took approximately a half hour. At this point we were the only customers in the restaurant. Another employee dropped off our food and a few minutes later our waitress stopped by to ask if we needed anything else. We asked for salt and pepper, some other small items, and drink refills. The waitress left and did not come back until I went looking for her to ask for boxes so that we could leave. The waitress brought over the check and had to be asked several times for boxes. The waitress did not ask about dessert, despite us being there for a birthday, and the restaurant turned off the music and some of the lights making it clear they were closing. The check the waitress dropped off included gratuity. As we walked out the manager on duty said she did not know we were there and was sorry for turning the music off that she didn't realize we were there. I responded that our waitress apparently did not know either because the service was not just awful but nonexistent. I explained that I did not want to pay the gratuity that was added to my bill to which the manger responded that adding gratuity was a store policy. I expressed my unhappiness with the service and the manager said she was sorry and was willing to offer a small gift card "so that you'll give us another chance". I declined. Overall super unhappy with the service. The restaurant should not make reservations that they either do not have the staff for or are too late. The restaurant workers made it clear that they were annoyed to have a late party. However, had the restaurant simply said they could not accommodate a party our size we would have gone some where else. Instead the restaurant scheduled us and then punished us for being patrons. We could have gone to another restaurant to eat. We would have been able to eat earlier and been able to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Instead we were treated poorly, received terrible service, had to wait a excessively long time to order, could not get refills, or basic items needed for the meal, were not even offered the opportunity to order dessert and certainly were not able to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The restaurant manager came off as patronizing with her comments of "so sorry we turned off the music we didn't know you were here" - every person who has ever worked in a restaurant knows that's the first thing you do when you are trying to get a late night table to leave. Her offer of a gift card "so that you'll give us another chance" was ludicrous at that point. She knew how angry we were, but her response was well come back and spend more money here. The restaurant is beautiful. The food is meh. The service was terrible. And the management was not far above the service. I would not recommend going here, particularly if you have a larger party. The food, service, and price is not worth the pleasant to look at interior. read more

This is not my first time dining here. I even had my 50th birthday dinner at Toro because we enjoyed our previous experience so much. I was very disappointed this time. We ordered the steak which wasn't even seasoned with salt. If was tasteless and tough. They did remove the steaks from our bill and the staff and Manager on duty count be nicer and more apologetic. We ordered the shrimp tacos instead hoping that would be good. After all it is a Mexican restaurant. That was also disappointing, it was two shrimp in a soft taco with some kind of sweet sauce and some cabbage. It did not taste like any taco I've ever had! Even the drinks were a disappointment! I loved their habanero margarita in the past and should have stuck to that. I ordered the pineapple one instead and it was tasteless and had very little alcohol. The tres leches cake was delicious and the service was incredible, hence the 3 star review. This place started out Greta but it's going downhill fast. Maybe they have a new chef? I love toro! Both times I've eaten here everything has been great. The atmosphere is always wonderful even on a week night and you can tell how fresh everything is. The free chips and salsa are really all you need but you can't go wrong with the tacos. I got the shrimp and steak fajitas and they were delicious. The chef noticed there wasn't too much steak that got sent out and personally brought me out more. My boyfriend got the sweet potato tacos and really liked them. Also can't forget, margaritas!! I hate to give a bad review. And i think everyone should go out and support new businesses and try new foods. But this is just based on my experience. Very cool decor and atmosphere. However the food was really bland and flavorless. Maybe i haven't had Mexican food from this particular region of Mexico but i felt like everything needed more salt. Even the guac sampler was boring. I didn't like the salsa at all. Hot sauce wasn't offered. BUT I did ask for some and their homemade hot sauce was the best thing I ate all night. Their pinto beans also weren't bad. I was so psyched to go to Toro. We tried several times before successfully getting reservations. They were mindful of any allergies, which was very considerate. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Drinks are super over priced for mediocre tiny margs. All the food was cold in the center and hot on the outside so obviously nuked in the microwave before being brought out. My carne asada was so tough it was for sure reheated for 3 days in a row. The icing on the cake was watching a managers glasses drop off her face into a plate of food as she quickly scrambled to pick them up act like it didn't happen and then serve the food to a table. Ordered the braised pork carnitas and the meat was excellent but the tacos are very small also Instead of using traditional tortillas they used hard shell tortillas which should be a sin if you are making traditional Mexican food . Overall I paid 24 dollars for 2 tacos , 24 DOLLARS ! Instead I could have gone to a hole in a wall Mexican restaurant and gotten better quality tacos and order not only 2 tacos but at least 7 tacos for the same price . Overall disappointed. read more

We ordered for pick-up tonight from Toro and I was so impressed by how delicious everything was! My husband ordered way too much food for the two of us - guacamole and chips, carne asada tacos and an order of dessert nachos - but we managed to eat a good amount of everything. We loved the four different types of salsa that came with the chips (Cantina salsa, salsa negra, salsa verde and salsa roja) and the homemade tortillas. The skirt steak in the tacos was very tender and flavorful. The dessert nachos were churro-like tortilla chips covered in sweet sauces and chocolate, it was delicious. I spend a lot of time in Mexico for work and was very pleasantly surprised on how good Toro Cantina's tacos are - best I've had outside of Mexico - and also very pleased how well everything stood up to take-out. It's rare that I give a full star review but wow. After waiting an hour (our mistake, we're from out of state and didn't know how busy it would be and should've made a reservation) we were seated at a high top and greeted by the most amazing kind thoughtful and outgoing waitress, Lauren K!!! She was so sweet giving us recommendations, refills on chips and sals, and answering all of our questions. Our food was amazing and came out sooo fast. We got tacos as an appetizer and they came out before my drink!! Omg. They were so good. I got the watermelon salad with chicken which was delicious and my boyfriend got a burrito and we loved everything. Lauren was so good, the service was amazing and super quick, and the food was delicious. If we're ever back in this area we will be sure to visit again. read more
