This little place is a good place to experience Japanese food culture you will not find in a regular Japanese restaurant. Small serving kinda like tapas in Spain with hot sake is the best experience here.

Ebi/grilled shrimp...they said we could eat the shell which I did and really enjoyed it

Shoya makes you feel like you transported to Japan. The food is very Japanese but unique and not the typical izakaya with grilled chicken wings and meatball but they have some unique dishes they feel home made and are all quite tasty. The place is located in a strip mall next to a vape shops and is very small with only bar seating for about 10 people.

Very friendly service. Very local joint, I can't believe I've been living here two years and just found it. Very initimate. Just a counter with nine seats. Wait, Did I say the food is super delicious? I loved the chicken tomato stew the most. Tonight is actually my second time here. Two nights in a row, and there's still more on the menu I gotta try!

(FOOD) Garlic ginger black pork. The most flavorful pork I've ever had but at a steep price. For 10 dollars you only get 6 pieces but each piece is LOADED with garlic and umami. I didn't know there were such flavours until I tried this place. (SERVICE) Food preparation can take a while since there is only one cook. The only waitress in the front is incredibly nice. (VENUE) This place is SMALL. Like 9 seats small with a bar countertop. It definitely has a very cozy feel. It's situated in a tiny plaza next to a smoke shop. This place is good but pricey.

Plates we have tried- listed from what I like the most to lease Grilled wild chicken Beef sukiyaki Garlic Ginger black pork Chazuke Oden-egg & daikon Overall, each plate is packed with flavor and umami. A Good date night place to come. Tip: the waiting time for each plate is a bit longer than I had anticipated. Don't come here when u are hungry - u will be hangry.

Love this place!! If you like authentic Japanese food, you must check out this place!! They only have a small bar counter so I'd recommend you to give them a call if you're planning to go especially on a weekend. It is in a very sketchy area so don't hang out in the parking lot too long lol

    - Locale Destination - It's on PCH and Walnut St in Lomita. It's in a sketchy small strip plaza - among "Happy ending" massage places and pot shop. The sign is black, so it's hard to find the spot. Ambiance: Cozy. Very small - only 9 seating, so you better call them in advance. They enjoy sake mainly, so don't expect to get the seating quickly when it's full. Menu: Izakaya - their signature items are "Oden". Clientele is very Japanese, so I'm not sure non Japanese would enjoy this. Food items and flavors are very catered to Japanese. Vegetable mainly, some meats and very little seafood. Very healthy overall. Service: Friendly but very slow. Price: A bit too expensive for what it is and $30/person minimum. Portion: Quite small for the price Parking: Small but some. - Gluttony Expedition - Green salad: Mix greens, cherry tomato, corn etc. Light dressing. Not bad. Grilled cheese potato: Nicely cooked. Melting cheese on top of the baked potato. Good. Sauteed Vegetable: All kinds of vegetables - been sprouts, cabbage, mushrooms etc. Seasoned very well. Good! Beef sukiyaki: This is more like "Oden", not "Sukiyaki" - it's not so sweet broth, beef, green beans, tofu and hanpen?! Everything but beef and tofu aren't in sukiyaki generally... It didn't even come with a raw egg. Meh. Salmon rice ball: Not the chunks of salmon used. Ok. *** Oden *** Items were well braised, but lighter in seasoning. Egg, Daikon, Hanpen: alright Special kinchaku: Put white fish, tofu and some more in the "Inari" package. Good. - Conqueror's Deduction - Well, decent, but you could get better quality food at somewhere else in Torrance.

Recently stopped by here about a year after trying it for the first time…read more I have to say, Pasta Stories really stepped up their game in terms of serving time! The first time I ate here, it took maybe 20-25 minutes for me to get my food. This time, I had my food in around 10 minutes. I was very impressed with this big decrease in wait time. This time I tried the new Hokkaido cream pasta, which tasted super fresh and made to order. The cream was warm and rich without feeling over the top like some other cream-based pasta sauces from Italian/American places. I liked the addition of spinach and mushrooms as well. The restaurant is in a food court with a few other options, and a decent amount of seating. It's also inside of a grocery store, so if you're with a picky group, everyone could theoretically order something different and eat together. I remember I was a little put off by the anime branding of the restaurant at first (it seemed a little childish to me) but Pasta Stories is really a solid wafu pasta place, and I love that they focus on different regional flavors of Japan. Prices are very affordable as well, with most pastas being around $15 and under.

For a cost friendly meal, the expectation in quality generally tends to be low but Pasta Stories is…read morethe exception. With meals ranging from $10-$17, there is something for everyone. I personally have tried the following: Hokkaido Cream Pasta (newest addition as of late) Fukuoka Mentaiko Butter Pasta Kyoto Matcha Cream Pasta (one of my favorite dishes here - pair with salmon for a strong, umami flavor profile) Iwate Triple Mushroom Pasta Okinawa Pork Ragu Spaghetti (THE number 1 pick, however was not on the menu when I visited last) Osaka American Wagyu Meat Sauce There is a strong attention to Japanese flavors fusing with traditional Italian pasta dishes and are all made with love and care. I always recommend this place to friends and family, I can't get enough of it!

There are gorgeous murals throughout, beautiful lighting, super comfortable seating, and even the bathroom is beautiful. The ceiling is covered in this gorgeous floral installation that makes the whole space feel so unique. It genuinely feels like every little detail was thought about. It has such a welcoming atmosphere and is the perfect place to sit and catch up with friends or bring your laptop and get some work done. The hospitality really stood out to me too. The man that was working the counter was so friendly and helped me decide what to order, giving me some great recommendations. Halfway through eating, he came over and offered me extra sauce, which was literally what I had just been thinking I wanted I ended up staying for a while to get some work done, and even after I was finished eating, they continued checking on me and offering to refill my water. Such a small thing, but that level of attentiveness made the experience even better. I tried the pistachio latte and it was SO good. I also got the beef sandwich, which was delicious, and the sauce that comes with it is amazing. I especially love that they're open late and still serve both food and coffee until closing. On the weekends they're even open until 12:30 AM, which is such a rare find for a cafe around here. Definitely a hidden gem right now. I'd check it out before everyone else discovers it and it becomes impossible to get a table!

The regular chai latte was good, i.e., not spicy. I especially loved the Kashmiri chai in the little clay pot. 10/10! :) In addition, we tried the beef pot pie (20/10!) from the ready made items inside the counter display. Service: a young lady provided us with pleasant customer service. She provided cheerful information about the food items currently offered, made suggestions and answered all our questions with a kind disposition and a smile. Regarding time, I don't want my chai coming out too fast. I'd rather think there is someone in the back with a pot of milk meticulously making my chai to order. It did not take any longer than necessary to make our order, as any other coffee or tea house would take. The cooked items did take a lil bit longer than the drinks and the pot pie, which only required heating. We ordered pakora and samosas. The samosas were not like the samosas from our local India Spice, they were smaller and did not seem to have potato, they were ground beef samosas, sort of like empanadas. The pakora pieces were large and "meaty" - more vegetable and less flour. But these side menu items are not, in my opinion, relevant to the tea house review. The ambiance is cool. The walls are decorated with tea scenes, including a chai wallah serving hot tea in his little cart. The music was modern and not related to the tea rituals. Young coffee or tea house patrons would love the vibe. They have many tables with space for a laptop and wifi. Nice place to study or get some work done. They have doordash. Parking was easy.

Ordinarily, I don't care for the texture of shredded beef, but that's not on them, and the food was terrific. The banchan were plentiful and tasty; the cabbage kimchi was a standout. So why only 3 stars? From the beginning, the waiter, an older gentleman, was unsmiling. That's ok. I don't need him to smile or be friendly. I just need him to be a good waiter. But he wasn't -- at least not to me. He didn't check back on me even once. Never asked if I needed water, more banchan, another beer, never even glanced at me. He passed me multiple times, however, to dote on the other 3 tables that were occupied while I was there. I was the only one he completely ignored. There are three possible explanations that I could come up with, since when I spoke to him he assured me I had not offended him in some way. The first explanation, although unacceptable, isn't sinister. The other two are problematic. 1. I was the only one sitting by myself, and he thought he'd get a bigger tip at the other tables. It's not an ok thing to do: ignoring solo diners. But it happens, and I know everyone's got to make a living. This is the *most* benign explanation I can come up with. Or . . . 2. I was the only non-Asian in the place. 3. I was the only person with a visible disability in the place. I gave the waiter a chance. I calmly and quietly asked him to explain why he had ignored me completely and served the other tables to my exclusion. His answer: "I didn't want to disturb you." No, I didn't buy that either, and I told him so. I'm not quick to jump to conclusions like #2 or #3, but it's not looking good at this point for Kim's BBQ. I have friends who live and eat in PV, and God help this restaurant if I ever conclude that either of those is the reason for my treatment today. If I ever conclude that, I will not let it go. Clean it up, Kim's BBQ. There's eyes on you.
