What I Ordered: -Torta Ahogada Carnitas $13.25 This sandwich was massive. It was enough food for two people easily or in my case one fat boy like myself. I read online tht this was the spot for Tortas. I had to see for myself. My wife is not a huge fan of Mexican food. So I haven't gotten a chance to try it until now. The wife took our son to the park to meet a friend. I had a small opening and I took it. I was about to step inside when I noticed the door was locked. My heart sunk to my stomach thinking they closed early for the day. Luckily, they opened the door and the door was open for business. I double checked to make sure it was okay to come inside before entering. I went with the Torta Ahogada as it's the namesake of the restaurant. I opted for Carnitas and spicy. The lady manning the register smiled when I said, spicy. She doubled checked to make sure that was my final decision. I told her, "I like spicy". I don't think I was prepared for the level of spice because that was one of spiciest dishes I've had in a long time. I felt like a fire breathing dragon! I went through countless napkins between rubbing my watery eyes and runny nose. They should have charged me extra for all those napkins. I shyly looked around to make sure no one was laughing at my struggle with this spicy food. The struggle was real! As far as the Torta Ahogadas Ameca goes, it was pretty good. It wasn't exactly how I imagined it, but it was pretty good nevertheless. It was spicy, smokey with a tomato sauce. The carnitas weren't tender, but weren't dry either. I really wish I didn't get spicy. The spice overpowered the Torta for me personally. I don't have a ton of experience with eating Torta, but it was pretty good. There were some beans mixed in with the carnitas. The bread was excellent. It was soft, but also chewy. Careful for all those folks with veneers! The bread was the highlight for me! I would definitely come back to try other dishes and I'd definitely like to try another Torta minus the spice. The service was so warm and friendly! read more

First off want to say the inside is beautiful love the frames and how they are all about the culture. Definitely a welcoming spot. The service was amazing and very humbling. Unfortunately the reason for a low rate it's cause there were more cons than pros. I take everything into consideration and add it up. The location is very hidden and in a very sketchy area that scared me a little. There is absolutely no parking and had hard time finding some. Ordered the Pambazo, tacos de canasta and tacos gobernador. The food was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Yes I've had better. For the hype they have and high reviews I was kinda disappointed. I felt like I can cook it at home. Yes you want that home feeling but you also want to experience the different flavors and what makes it stands out. This one did not for me. read more

Yummyyyyyyy We came for torta ahogadas. My boyfriend is from Jalisco and that's where the torta ahogada is from (so he says). He was craving one since he hasn't been home in about 3 years. The place is a good size, and clean. There's lots of pictures on the wall, of the Guadalajara area and he was looking at those photos. He said, "That's where my parents live. That's where I go by to get to get to their house. That's where I go for vacation." I felt bad, I think he's pretty homesick. Well! Our waitress was very nice. He ordered the torta ahogada de pierna. I ordered tacos ahogadas with beans and carnitas, and a toco de tinga. Boyfriend's review: He said that he didn't really like it because it's not how they make it in Jalisco. He said the tomato sauce should not be so dark, and shouldn't have so many spices in it. He said it should be more basic and tomatoey. He also said the pickled red onions are not authentic to the Jalisco recipe. The original torta has diced, raw, white onions piled on top. He was displeased and said he's show me how it's supposed to be when he takes me to visit. My review: I thought the sauce was delicious. I enjoyed the strong spices and flavor. I thought the beans in the tacos were well seasoned and very satisfying. I said finally, someone that can make beans well. I loved adding lime juice and eating everything up with a spoon, and it was hitting the spot. Now, I can speak to the flavors being delicious. I can't speak to its authenticity because I don't know. My boyfriend and I both ate a chorizo torta. It was tasty and hit the spot!! We were craving chorizo tortas like our Abuelo's would make and this was as close as it could get. Tortas ahogadas that are authentic are hard to find. Ameca tortas were very close to the authenticity but in my opinion the birote (bread) was missing the salty texture that it's supposed to have. Other than that the meat and sauces were good and the place although small it was very clean. I must add that it's pricy and VERY slow service. Will I come back? Probably not but I definitely don't regret trying it out. read more

Today, between my wife and I, we ordered: 1. 1 spicy Pambazo 2. 1 Mulita de Barbacoa 3. 2 Mulitas de Pastor 4. 1 Mulita de Chorizo 5. 2 Tacos de canasta (1 with beans & chorizo the other with potatoes and chorizo) 6. 1 order of Chicken Flautas Let's begin with the Pambazo. Anyone who knows me understands that I LOVE spicy food and one of my biggest pet peeves is ordering something spicy and it being mild. The spicy Pambazo truly delivered! It wasn't uncomfortably spicy but enough to give me the hiccups. It had a great flavor and I devoured the entire thing, even the bits that fell out as I was eating. The mulitas were perfect! The meat was tender and truly flavorful. I also enjoyed the tacos de canasta, especially after adding some of the flauta toppings. Finally, the flautas were fried to perfection and topped with loads of the perfect amount of tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and crema. Absolutely love their tortas ahogadas! :) growing up eating them in my families home town of Guadalajara.. it's hard to find some tortas that will just have you savoring each bite. These tortas do not disappoint!! I drove out 40 min just to get these while I had my pregnancy craving and have not stopped going ever since. These tacos castenada were good but I think I should have ordered a torta. The ones coming out of the kitchen look so good. I ordered a variety of five tacos but I was still hungry. I ordered the Flautas de carne deshebrada and the Volteados de Barbacoa. Once I received my food, I could barely wait to dig in!!! The presentation was neat, and the food looked very fresh. When it came to the flavor! The word "Bomb", is an understatement... the meat itself was just so juicy and savory, and the combination of everything just made it so much more incredible. The tortas ahogadas are delicious! The tomato sauce has flavor and the spicy sauce is amazing! Everything comes packed in separate containers, making it easy to control the wetness & spiciness of the torta. We also had the shredded beef flautas which were great. I want to start that getting your food can take a while as it's seems the number of staff is small. But the torta ahogada brings me back to Guadalajara. The carnitas are cut in cubes which I find I prefer. The tacos dorados are good, my sister is vegetarian and had some cheese enchilada and she said they were quite good. Had the torta de Tinga ahogada! Spicy but I LOVED it! The red onions go so well with the torta. If you're not good with spicy spicy food (like me) you can get it ahogada en salsa de tomate (tomatillo sauce) and they give you the hot sauce on the side in a cute molcajete. Don't wear white! I wore a white shirt and was scared to stain myself. So I put napkins as a bib. The waitress saw and gave me thicc paper towels instead and I appreciate her so much. Definitely A+ service. FOOD: I ordered the chorizo potato torta and added avacado for an additional dollar. The texture was soft, obviously but the consistency of the chorizo wasnt there. Because the consistency was so mushy, I couldn't really enjoy it. I felt like I was eating baby food. The avacado didnt help much either, but nonetheless I'm glad I added it on to it. PRICE: With the avacado included, my total came out to about $8.50 WAIT TIME: Although, I checked in I ordered over phone in advance and my wait time was approximately 20 minutes before delivery pick up. There are photos included shared by the Yelp community that this establishment forewarning customers of the extensive wait time, so I couldn't be upset. SERVICE: The young lady over the phone was patient with my request as I was asking what each torta included without sounding irritated or in a hurry which made my experience well ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I checked in which allowed me to redeem a free Horchata or Jamaica drink.
