Great bang for the buck. Pros: + Great menu variety. I tried the chile relleno torta, which was a chile relleno on a torta sandwich with avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno. The flavor was good and the texture of the bread was very good, if a little crumbly/messy. + Great value - we fed four hungry adults for $35 including extra guacamoles. That's a good deal in Pasadena. + The salsas have a lot of kick, as do the chicken tamales. Cons: - No soda machine, drinks in cans or bottles only. - No beer to go with your spicy tacos. Decided on a custom chimichanga today. Chicken with cheddar cheese inside. Plain on some shredded lettuce with a side of verde sauce. Had the standard beans and rice to go with along with a soda. The food was fresh, hot and outstanding. Totally delicious. People are always friendly. read more

Maybe coming off the plane yesterday from a more than 24 hour flight because I missed the connecting flight in Tokyo and had to be rerouted on standby via Dallas Fort Worth and missed the first standby and already having tried my favorite Mexican joint taco nazo. This place was hands down the best burrito I have had so far. I use to love the taqueria joints in the Bay Area. Sf mission district and Santa Cruz's taqueria Vallarta. Salty, dry, over priced (relative to quality), and generally depressing-ass Mexican food. This place looks quaint and authentic, which can easily lead you to believe it's legit, but it's not. There's no love in this food; just indifferent assembly of Mexican ingredients into what's supposed to pass as Mexican food. Great quick food in Old Town, one of the better kept secrets of the area. Tortas are the way to go here, other things are ok but not great. I do like the potato tacos but for the most success order the tortas, they are very good. I like the Cubana or the Asada torta personally but I am sure they are all good. read more

Whenever I just want to relax in Old Town with a good affordable lunch that leaves me satisfied, I'll head over to Tortas Mexico for a cubana. The torta itself is pretty large for a torta, my mother and close friend always just eats half and saves the other half for later. Everything between the bread is perfectly portioned and fresh and you never feel like they're holding back on any ingredients. I hate places that skimp on the avocado. However I always believed they could do slightly better with the bread--it isn't bad at all, but I've had better. The chefs in the back have a window they can see through and whenever I order they greet with a big "HI!" I haven't been back in almost a year though, I heard they started putting a lot of mayo--so ask for mayo on the side or just for a small a mount. read more

My husband and I have been coming to Tortas Mexico since it first opened. First time we visited he ordered a Torta Cubana and I ordered a Hawaiiana. We've been ordering the same thing years later. It is almost always perfect. The only teensy thing my husband doesn't like is that they used some kind of yellow cheese (I've never strayed from the Hawaiiana so I've never even tasted a Cubana) but I don't know if he means it's cheddar or american sandwich slice cheese. So he asks that they not use the yellow cheese on his tortas. We finally had to order tacos last week because our daughter was with us and they too were pretty good. Not Taquito Mexicano Taco Truck good, but I'd say they were better than Puebla Tacos or Estrella Tacos. It's nice that you can eat in the breezeway outside the restaurant, because it is pretty small inside. read more

Had lunch here after I was invited by some coworkers after a meeting. Small little place with a couple tables and chairs inside and some seating outside. I believe it is ran by a family with the wife taking orders and husband in the kitchen. I ordered the carnitas burrito no rice add guacamole and an orchata. I have to say it's a big burrito. It was very good and tasty and u can taste that it's authentic but I should have stopped half way thru. I was able to see a film of oil or grease in the burrito. Don't think it was the carnitas because they tasted a little dry. The only thing I can think of was that it was coming from the beans. Maybe the beans were cooked in lard. Not 100% sure but I still ate it. It was tasty and filling. Would I go back, probably not but they are always packed with people. read more

I've had a good number of things at this restaurant and the thing that keeps me coming back and spending every hard earned dollar I've ever made at this place is... the breakfast burrito. happened to be in pasadena today and came across this little torta spot. well let me tell you get a lot for your buck here, the torta is huge in my opinion i could of saved half for another meal but i was a fatty instead. i was very satisfied with my order oh and i also had an horchata which was also good. only thing i didn't care for was that they add way too many jalapeños so next time i'll remember to mention no jalapeños please. other than that their service was great , not long of a wait and just around the corner there's a small open courtyard with benches to eat. read more

I came here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy; there were only two other people at the time I ordered. I only ordered a quesadilla to go. The price was right, but the quesadilla was not cooked through - it was barely warmed. When I got it back to my desk, the oil on it was overwhelming and the quesadilla just slid apart. This place is awesome and Esteban (the guy who runs it) is the nicest, coolest guy ever! Great value, cheaper to get lunch here than a lot of other places nearby. ~$6 for a burrito or torta and $2 for a taco. Tortas (sandwiches) are obviously good, but so is everything else. Tastes a little healthier than king taco. Al pastor is a little different from many other Mexican places, it's more like pulled pork and milder in flavor. The burgers are okay, but nothing special.. stick with the Mexican food. If you're super hungry, you can get a combo burrito (e.g. Chile relleno + meat).. it's bomb! Place is a bit small, but there's some patio seating right outside. Overall, I really like this place. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I'm always excited to try a Mexican restaurant that I've never been to, especially when it comes highly recommended by a local. This place is delicious! Starting with the salsa, the red is smokey and the green is tart and mild. My friend had a sope which was beautiful and hearty. I had to try the potato tacos and they're my new fave! If you miss El Atacor by Footsies, you'll love these potato tacos. I'm vegetarian and look forward to trying all their other veggie dishes. read more

This really is a B+ kind of place in terms of the taste of their food. Coming from the San Fernando Valley and living in DTLA, I just can't give it more than 3 stars after eating at much better Mexican food restaurants for much cheaper. I would say this place charges double what you'd normally pay at another hole in the wall. I ordered a plate with their carnitas and cheese enchiladas. The carnitas are delicious; tender and flavorful but a bit on the fatty side. The cheese enchilada, though, was really really bad. There was one giant spongey piece of white cheese (unmelted) in my tortilla that was no bueno. Their beans also had no flavor. Overall, pricier than other Mexican food places I've been to($12-13 for a plate) and so extremely cramped inside that it makes coming back highly unlikely. read more

Ordered delivery from here today for lunch. I ordered a veggie burrito. I was awful. Inedible there were no beans inside the burrito. What kind of burrito doesn't have beans?! Filled w rice and lettuce. Awful. Also ordered nachos and they were soggy and the jalapeños weren't even sliced they were just strips of jalapeños. I am so disappointed. It was all so gross. Not sure how this get 4 stars. Ordered chips & salsa Spicy chicken tacos Chicken sopas Chips tasted stale, like they where sitting out for the last week. Tacos, really...they could be so much better, spicy chicken was super greasy. Sopas, barely had any chicken and it tasted like the sopas was either frozen or cooked then put in the fridge. It was chewy and undercooked in the middle. I would not recommend this place or eat here again. The only thing going for it is the nice staff and decent salsa. read more

As others have wrote this is a small, hole in the wall kind of place in Old Town Pasadena near the corner Of Fair Oaks and Holly Ave. For what it is, a walk in and order and sit down and eat kind of place, it's 4 Stars in my book. Don't expect a waitress but do expect plastic forks and plates and you shouldn't be disappointed I have been here a few times now and have never been let down. I've had the carnita tacos which I find especially good thanks to the crisp, shredded meat (many times shredded carnita meat loses it's crisp texture, but not here) taquitos served with guacamole sauce as I prefer to thick, chunky guacamole on taquitos, and a pretty darn good chimichanga. Because you can't beat a deep fried burrito with a stick. All have hit the spot and I have found the food to be restaurant quality even if the service is not. For fast, fresh mexican food that isn't fast food its been hard to beat. Also, the bathrooms are for customers only and if familiar with Old Town Pasadena you know public restrooms are not available but for a single one at One Colorado Plaza. If in need on one however, buy a taco or something and use the ones this place has available. I've been in two times now and each time it's been spotless and even smells good. I should invite whoever cleans them over to my place for a good scrub, but um....I won't go there! Good food, clean bathrooms, that's about it. read more
