Their loaded guacamole salad is soo good and filling as well as all their tortas (I've tried most) -- but the mushroom quesadilla is a MUST! Big fan of this place. Everyone knows that Tortas Frontera is the best dining option at ORD. This place has an almost identical menu with a few more options and better drinks. Had the Milanesa Torta and really enjoyed it. Drinks are great too. They have a full bar but I went non alcoholic and got the bright right Jamaica drink. Not too tart, not too sweet. The line was a little long when I got there but things moved along pretty quickly. One of the better lunch options in this part of the loop for sure. I'll be back! read more

2 for 2! We were in Chicago for a quick visit and grabbed dinner here on a whim. It was delicious! When I asked about vegan options, the chef suggested a tweak to one of their dishes and made a special, yummy bowl. Everything (we also got the chicken chipotle torta, dressed nachos, and a classic margarita) was so good that we came back on a layover at Union Station (easy 5 min walk across the canal). Tortazo is a new restaurant in the new Sears/Willis (SEARS) Tower food court. I've heard that the line can be long during lunchtime, but that wasn't the case today. I came here on a work lunch, so I wasn't able to take any photos, but I did eat! The way it works is that once you get to the front of the line, you order and pay at the cash register, then you go to a table that they assign to you and wait for your food to be brought to you. I had a short rib pepito. Fantastic! I would have given this place 5 stars, but it's a bit pricey. read more

Tortilla soup was an oily salty desiccated (chicken) mess. The broth waspooling with oil. The chicken (3$ extra) was so dry it resembled jerky and was salty to boot. The avocado was fresh at least. Hey Yelp! It's about time for me to tell you about Tortazo, my new favorite workplace restaurant. Don't mind some of the 1 star reviews bringing down the average. They're more petty than useful. This place is going to have a solid 4-5 star rating in no time. I first went here during their soft opening for a quick happy hour and appetizers on a dark and snowy January night. My coworker was stuck in a meeting that was going on for WAY too long, so I decided to get a head start. To begin, I tried the classic margarita with salt and served on the rocks. Don't expect slushies here. You take those shenanigans back to Hacienda (A solid Americanized Mexican South Bend staple). They make their own in house mix and use Libelua tequila. If you're looking for a quality, simple, no-frills margarita, there you have it. After a while, Lanie and Rick Bayless showed up, and Lanie starts slinging drinks while her dad works in the kitchen. When Lanie Bayless (owner, Bar Sotano) tells you to try the CDMX Negroni with mezcal, you don't ask questions and go for it. I'm glad I did. This well-balanced cocktail had varying levels of smoky and sweet. I had a couple, and I'm looking forward to having more in the future. Eventually, my coworker showed up and we decided to split the fully dressed guacamole and chips. They're served with several different toppings and salsas of your choosing. Personally, you can never go wrong with a good salsa verde. Everything was spicy and delicious as expected. After having my fill of chips, salsa, drinks and guac, I rounded out my experience with their corn and poblano chowder. Most chowders are impossibly thick and could impose as a dip. This chowder was not most chowders. Although it's creamy, the weight doesn't leave you feeling as if you've eaten an entire container of French Onion Dip. Between the hints of spice, different textures and flavors, I found myself finishing off the bowl and wanting more. Unfortunately, I wasn't born with a second stomach and needed to throw in the towel. Like all of Rick/Lanie's restaurants, I expect the rest of the food on their menu to be nothing short of phenomenal. Keep up the good work Tortazo. This place was very disappointing. Taste was on point, but for $13, you get an almost MICROSCOPIC amount of meat on your torta. Like almost none, it was really insane if you ask me. I get that a Rick Bayless spot adds a bit of a premium, but for a $13 torta, you should be full after eating it. This place is so good and bad at the same time! Food is amazing, but it's bad cause I work upstairs and I always want to come here for lunch! I went to their pre-opening taste event and holy cow! I've tried one of everything from each category and I was IMPRESSED! I loved the chipotle chicken torta. It was full of chicken and avocado as well as super filling! I also ordered the season all soup and I was full from it! It was super rich and creamy,but in a good way. I also tried the fully dressed guacamole and chips which was SPOT ON! The churro bites was the only that I thought it was OK, but it helped with my sweet tooth that night. I had to say I might've went overboard during the private tasting event, but it made me go back afterwards when they officially opened up for business! I went back for the guacamole and chips during lunch one time around 1:30pm and there was a line. I feel like there's always a line no matter what time I go! I went the first week and I was underwhelmed by my experience. I tried the Cuban sandwich and chips and guacamole. Both were fine in the taste category, but the Cuban was 75% bread and lacked the meat I expect in a sammich. The guacamole was a small serving, but tasty. Overall this isn't a good lunch spot. The Cuban was $12, which is pricey since it wouldn't fill me up by itself, and with the $7 chips and guacamole a $20 lunch isn't a good value. They are looking to overcharge tourists that will work, but for working stiffs it isn't sustainable to go here often. read more

I've been twice and both times have been bad experiences. The first my order was wrong, which I didn't find until I got home...which was a simple loaded guac. Second visit was me yelling over the blaring music to provide my phone number...just to get a text when my order wasn't even ready yet. I ordered the short rib & poblano rajas bowl. It was SO salty. The presentation was great though. My friend ordered the exact same thing and she agreed. Our other friend ordered the Taquer salad. Before I could tell him that my bowl was salty he said his salad was as well. I love me some salt. I love pretzels and peanuts, but this was over the top. Good earthy taste though not as meaty as some preps I have had. Sauce and toppings good. 2. Chipotle chicken. A hit, a bit on the spicy side though not a burner. Delicious combo though if you are one of those folks who hates cilantro beware. 3. Short rib ... very good. Not spicy, meaty and while short rib is not my favorite meat choice the person who ordered loved it. 4. Chicken Milanese ... very good. A bit too much in the toppings side but tasty with some heat. I just picked up my online order it said the order was ready on the app I had to wait 23 after I got there; so it wasn't ready. When I did get my order it was wrong I had extra steak and extra habanero sauce didn't get either. I waisted over half my lunch waiting had 10 minutes to eat before my conf call. I have now been to Tortazo 3x and have wanted to wait until I get a sense of all of the offerings before I wrote my review. **Flat-out the food is amazing!** The first time I tried Tortazo was on opening day and although the line was long (which is expected on an opening day with Rick behind the counter), I was not disappointed. The Short Rib Pepito was delicious and had the right amount of spice with the pickled jalapenos, however was not too overwhelming due to the cotija cheese. The accompanying salsas (which you need to try) totally added another color to my sandwich and elevated it heaven on a torta. In addition to the delicious sandwich I couldn't resist the Fully Dressed Guac & Chips... Guac+fixing (AND BACON) were to-die-for! I just wish they made this guac in a bowl size! I also tried the Mango Aguas Fresca which was really refreshing and definently will be a summer favorite for me... just add a little/lot of tequila now you have summer in a glass! The second time I went to Tortazo the wait was much more manageable at around 10-minutes, but again was worth the wait. This time I got the Crispy Chicken Milanesa which was incredibly solid! The chicken was juicy, crispy, and a great portion-size. Again the sandwich had the right amount of spice with the pickled jalapenos and onion, offset by the cotija cheese and a very tasty cilantro crema. The cabbage slaw added a nice freshness and crunch to the sandwich and just added to the experience. This time again I had to do the Fully Dressed Guac & Chips and the Mango Aguas Fresca. The third time I journeyed to Tortazo (almost a weekly pilgrimage at this point) was last week when I tried the Slow-Cooked Pork Pibil. This torta adds a bit more spice to the torta game, but is really nicely balanced and a delicious eat; just might need two aquas frescas for this one (which is okay because they are all delicious). The achiote-braised pork is super flavorful shredded pork, paired nicely with pickled red onions. This part of the torta is on point as it is, but then marry it with the 'Fiery' Roasted Habanero Salsa it brings it up to a whole new level. I really enjoyed this sandwich but admittedly had a slight sweat to by brow by the end of it. To step out and try one of there desserts, I tried the churro bites which were really good as well; I mean bite-sized churros with chocolate and caramel, it's hard to mess this up and definitely will aide my sweet tooth! So overall, this place has been added to my lunch-spot rotation. Next up at Tortazo for me is to try some of their margaritas or cocktail offerings. Their bar area seems like a nice spot to grab a quick casual drink before heading to the train or to just catch up with friends on a Friday afternoon. I'm personally most interested in trying the oaxxan old fashioned, which is a mezcal spin to an old fashioned. Cheers! read more

This just opened in the willis tower. I ordered a guac and chips (naked version) and a churro. For the money, not worth it. The ONE churro was small for $2.50 and taste was not all that fantastic. The guac container with chips was maybe slightly larger than what you'd see at a chipotle or similar. The taste was as expected, nothing spectacular to justify over $6 for it. I wish willis tower had more options that weren't as costly. read more

The corn and poblano chowder was very sweet, and the tortilla soup was extremely salty. We have no clue what the concept of this restaurant is. They serve fried chicken in a "taco salad". I suppose they have their reasons for being card only, but I find this policy to be bizarre (the cashiers don't handle the food) and whether intended or not, it's weirdly classist. I had heard of this New Mexican eatery in the Atrium and finally visited this evening. Our party of 3 arrived close to 6 p.m. Friday evening. We were greeted warmly and promptly seated at the last open table. The place was actually packed! The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the dishes. We took the recommendations for Chicken Chilaquiles and Short Ribs with Poblano Rasa. DELICIOUS! Fresh, flavorful and just- right-spicy! Anyone who loves great Mexican food will LOVE Tortazo. Cute place at Willis Tower. I went at 3:30 because during lunch hours there's a line. I was hoping for more traditional type Mexican dishes and they didn't have that type of food. They offer mainly 6 "Mexican type" of sandwiches. Decided to try a bowl of the chicken tortilla soup and a Coke. The soup came out luke warm so I brought it up to the counter to see if someone could heat it up. They don't have a microwave so I asked them to put it to go so I could bring it back to my desk and warm it up in our canteen area. Once I heated it up it tasted great. Honestly for $17 I can't see myself going back for luke warm soup. read more
