Came here while traveling and met up with colleagues. We were in on a Wednesday evening, it was pretty busy. I had the carnitas platter, with rice and beans. The carnitas has great flavor, was juicy and plenty of it. The beans and rice were also well prepared and tasty. The other guys in our party had a variety of choices and they all agreed, great food! The beer selection could be a little better but nothing to complain about. It's a very cool spot in the heart of Carlsbad and I'd definitely come again.

Came in to have a cocktail early afternoon and the bartender was super sweet and so accommodating. Watch football for a few hours with a bowl of pozole, order of tortillas, three beers and a espresso martini. Had a nice afternoon just sitting enjoying the ambience. Service is great family oriented restaurant.

3.5 Adorable ambiance, friendly and efficient service. Hubs ordered Carlsbad burrito: adequate portion of tender chunks carne asada, tasty guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Crispy fries were nice and hot. My lunch combo special included rice, beans, taco and enchilada. Standout was the chicken enchilada covered in cheese and a delectable unique red sauce. The beef taco meat was quite dry and barely seasoned but ok with the house salsa. Complimentary chips were stale but the salsa better than average. No drinks today, just water. We've tried other Mexican restaurant in the area and this place, while just above average, is reasonably priced and good. I'd come again and stick with the enchiladas. Recommend. ~EG Eats

Saturday night was busy here which isn't surprising! We sat at the bar (there's a wait list for this too but it's shorter than a table) but somehow our order got lost and we waited 2 hours for our entrees. However, our bartender ( I think Jose) was super sweet and took care of us and was constantly going back to the kitchen to check on our food. Despite the service, we still had a wonderful time because of the people who work there and the energy.

Terrible experience at Tortilla Mia in downtown Carlsbad Village. We had family in town, 4 adults and 3 (well behaved) kids. We called in reservations for 7pm Saturday because we knew they would most likely be busy. Our family arrived at 6:30pm since they were close enough to walk. After checking in, they found the table wouldn't be ready until 7pm, and that was fine because we arrived 10min. before 7pm anyways. 7pm passes and the hostess has been staring right at us off an on for some time. My bf's cousin goes to ask how much longer, she says "oh, do you have reservations?" And he continued to say he JUST checked in 30+ minutes ago and she stated the table won't be ready until 7pm. She then had a hard time "finding" the reservation that she already checked him in with. BAD start, but they were so tired from a long day at the beach and we were all hungry.. we bit our tongue and just got sat. Where were we seated? Smack dab right in the middle of the floor area when you enter. I didnt like that location as the back of my chair was right up against the poor person's stool who was sitting at the bar, but again I was hungry and didnt care. We ordered 3 micheladas and a mai tai for myself. 2 micheladas were as pictured in the menu (big goblet style glass) and the 3rd one given to his cousin was in a pint glass. It had no garnish and no tajin rim. He was nice about it and asked the server about this... no apology, just takes the drink disappears and reappears in a pint glass with garnish. We then ordered our meal. Queso with chips for appetizer, birria tacos for my bf, chicken and carne asada tacos for the kids, and veggie enchilada for his cousins wife and his cousin ordered chimichanga appetizer for his entree. After 30min...the queso and chips came out. After an HOUR yes an HOUR of waiting... his chimichanga came out. No other food... after an HOUR and 20min? Everyone else's food came out, and he was already done eating. One of the kids got the wrong tacos...so his mom flagged down the person that delivered and he just looked confused then went back to grab a new order of PLAIN chicken tacos. We didnt have the energy to complain and we were so mad we just didn't get up and leave earlier. This place is a joke. I remember coming here a LONG time ago, as Las Olas, and it was amazing! This is why I recommended it to family. Instead I embarrassed myself for ever mentioning this place. Before you say "oh they must have been busy, it's Saturday by the beach" keep in mind all the parties, big and small, around us...were sat, fed, paid..and they left before we even got our food. Make that make sense? You can't, because this place dropped the ball. In the end, we were unhappy eating our cold and late to arrive food, we were flabbergasted that no apology for the wait or mention of it was adddressed by our server or anyone. We saw what may have been a manager talking with patrons throughout the restaurant, and im sure he noticed us waiting for that long period of time with no food...if that WAS a manager...shame on you for not checking on us. We will never come back here. As a 38yr Cbad village native, I will NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone, and if I hear anyone planning to go there... I will recommend they go somewhere else. If you're reading this, try Jalisco Cantina Restaurant on State Street. They have amazing service, drinks, and food. Dont waste your hard earned money at tortilla mia.

I visited the restaurant during the weekday. It was nice because it was not busy and was seated right away. Whenever I'm passing by this place it is packed. I was greeted right away and was able to select where I wanted to sit. I opted to sit in the covered patio in front. The patio is shielded with acrylic panels which is nice since you are next to the main and busy road. My food order: Fish taco (battered) with corn tortilla Bowl of albondigas soup Lemon drop martini w/sugared rim To Go order: 2 orders of 6 handmade tortilla I love the decor vibe going on in the restaurant very spacious and a pretty good size bar. The restaurant has an open space feel with a good breeze. The lemon martini was good, strong which I like, with great lemon flavor, goes well with the sugared rim. Before my food arrived I was served a bowl of tortilla chips with some salsa. The chips were good, light and crunchy. First my cup of albondigas arrived. It was a pretty good serving size with 2 meatballs and light on the veggies. Flavorful, but I should've asked for some cilantro to add in. The fish taco arrived and the presentation didn't grab my attention. You're probably thinking fish taco presentation ? I have ordered fish tacos and when they arrived to the table, I could say, that looks delicious. So this taco was ok. I wasn't a fan of the quartered cherry tomatoes. I think I would try something else on the menu on my next visit My to go orders of fresh tortillas were ok. I will pass on ordering next time. Customer service was excellent. Christian was very help and kind. We need more customer service like that! I would definitely return and try some other dishes.

Not a bad little restaurant located right off the 101 in carlsbad village. This place has a TON of seats and also a cute little bar which is great for watching Padres games etc. overall not a bad little casual spot.

Ohhhhh how i wanted to like this place. We loved coming here when it was Los Olas- was hoping it would be the same- it wasn't. Food was alright. Not great, not bad. Service wasn't very good. The hostess actually had to come take our order because our waitress never came by, but i guess there was a big party she had. DO NOT, and i repeat DO NOT come on a Thursday- Karaoke takes place and it is horrible. Not necessarily the singing but having it blasts throughout the restaurant and not just the bar. Will find some other place to go to when wanting Mexican food. read more

You could improve a lot I ordered two Carne Asada burritos, For takeout, over $30 it's not fine dining in there, and wondered why the burritos did not taste well with no flavor people I want you to know that they use nothing but fillers to be cheap. We love this place! Everytime we pass through Carlsbad this is our go-to for a fun time and delicious food and drinks. The owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is very satisfying, their margaritas are always amazing, (as are the chips and salsa) , and the food is always fresh and delightful. (The ramen noodles in the Birria Ramen are made in-house!) I highly recommend Tortilla Mia! read more

Great service, the owner and staff are nice and welcoming. The resturant is open and has plenty of seating (can accommodate large groups). Food was just okay. All of our dishes were very bland. The chips were warm but the salsa tastes more like enchilada sauce than authentic salsa. Margaritas were watered down. I enjoyed the live Caribbean music. The main item that stood out was my taco shell (it appeared to be homemade with a light crisp). fyi: *the bathrooms were clean *street parking in front *prepaid parking in back (you can enter restaurant from back parking lot *valet parking nearby *resturant within walking distance from beach read more

In all my years a taco and chips and salsa has never hurt my stomach like this food did. I know it was from this because my whole group collectively has been sick. Stopped by for lunch with friends when we were in Carlsbad. It is located a block away from the beach. It's a casual Mexican Spot with good food and drinks. My husband and I shared the Carlsbad Carne Asada Burrito, Wet, but couldn't decide between green or red salsa so the waiter recommended doing half and half. It was delicious! Everything I love all in a burrito! We also ordered Ernie's Caesar Salad and I expected an ordinary Caesar salad but this one was really good! The dressing was delicious and I think they had different cheese that made it flavorful! What a nice surprise. The staff is very friendly and attentive and we enjoyed this place! read more

Pleasantly surprised ! My husband & I stopped in after strolling the village, and I'm always down for chips and salsa, so we stopped in on Fathers Day. We were seated right away & we shared the Nachos with Carne Asada. Ummm is your carne asada always that good ?! It was tender, full of the flavor you want from bomb carne asada, pico de gallo was fresh & declious and the refried beans were pretty darn good too ! Chips & Salsa also super good ! Bummed! I have now been here twice and I don't love the service. Both times the waiters are not kind, almost rude actually. No one comes to refill salsa or waters. And you can't even catch anyone's attention to help you. Both times again the food has just been "okay", first time it was bland and second time it was very dry. And our salsa was empty so I couldn't even use that to help. A salad also came without any dressing.. no one around to flag over to help us get some. Pretty lame. read more

I almost went to Senior Grubby's... I'm so glad I chose Tio Ernie's Tortilla Mia in Carlsbad instead. We ordered 3 items. All were delicious but if I had to pick one thing I liked most it would be the lightly fried artichoke hearts with garlic aioli dip that was to die for. My second choice would be the shredded beef enchiladas with red sauce. The corn tortillas were so fresh, the meat seasoned perfectly and not spicy at all. The enchiladas came with rice and beans which were also flavorful. And last but not least were the two big, fat, crunchy shredded beef tacos with the perfect amount of cheese and lettuce and a mild tomato topping. The portions are very big and even though I just went yesterday, I'm going again tomorrow! Austin was also very friendly and made me feel welcome and appreciated. He also threw in some chips and salsa and it was delicious! You won't be disappointed. read more

Great authentic Mexican flavors and fun and funky decor make this place a hit. The chicken enchiladas had tremendous depth of flavor and hit the spot. The beans and rice had delectable flavor and complemented the enchiladas well. The shrimp burrito was delicious and the chips and salsa were a hit at the table. We walked around the area as we came back from the beach. We saw they had happy hour and it was exactly 3pm. I ordered the chicken asada and mahi mahi taco, my husband ordered the pozole as well as two margaritas passion fruit and watermelon. When I got my food I got the asada taco instead. I wasn't upset they got the order wrong. The asada taco was 11/10 it was so tender. Which originally was the reason I didn't want to get it, because at other places it's usually dry and rough. But not here I recommend the asada taco, the other taco lacked a little flavor but overall was a good portion of mahi mahi, my husband got the pozole and it was sooo good!. The passion fruit margarita was sweeter than the watermelon but both were good. We came from point loma and definitely plan to come back when we're in the area. I'm surprised they weren't busier during the time we went because this place is a hit in my book! The place and restroom were very clean! If you're visiting Carlsbad I recommend comig here! read more

We love this place. The food is amazing!! My husband had the birria plate. I had birria flautas. The kids had a kids bean and cheese burrito and kids rolled tacos. The margaritas were great. The wait staff was very friendly. It gets busy since it's in the village and there are tourists. But they were so nice there and we are locals who keep coming back! read more

First time coming here, but we are hardcore foodies, and picky about the authenticity of our Mexican food. Spectacular food and service. I had the carne asada plate. Authentic. Delicious. Tons of food. The owner brought out some house salsas for my family to try; if you like it hot like we do, definitely ask, they were all delicious, unique from each other, and full of great flavors. The house jalapeño margarita was great too. There was live music that wasn't too loud to have a normal conversation, and it added to the great ambience. Even though it was a lot of food, we cleared every plate, because it was that good. Would definitely recommend. read more

Wow, stopped here randomly and what a surprise. Food was amazing , Al was our waiter and he had us entertained the entire time. He had a response for every one of my 12 yr olds remarks. My food was amazing and believe me im a serious critic on my mexican food. Shrimp taco with a pineapple habnero sauce was my favorite. Really really good! Fresh and homemade everything, including corn tortillas and salsas. We stopped in for a quick bite and everything was great: ice cold Modelos, fresh salsa, perfect chips, and a la carte tacos. Friendly service too! We'll be back! read more
