Very unfortunate experience at Tortilla Mia in Carlsbad, we had called in advance to see if we needed reservations for a party of two. They were slow so we were advised to walk in. When we arrived we were standing at the hostess booth for 15 minutes. Only 5 tables total were taken, and 3 customers at the bar. Finally we were seated but the wait time continued to be an issue. It took 25 minutes before being approached by a waitress, no apologies and careless attitude. We had asked for chips as a starter, that took another 20 minutes. The waitress had spilled several chips on the way to serving us, I understand mistakes happen but for the quality of service already, I was appalled by this waitress's carelessness. We were ready to order when she asked what drinks we would like, as soon as I was ready to order she walked away to another table, very abruptly. I was very disappointed because we had already been there for an hour and still hadn't been able to order food. Finally after another 20 minutes she took our orders which took 20 minutes before it arrived at our table. She served us horchata with ice filling 3/4 of the cup. Due to refills being extra charge, this disappointed the both of us. A couple that was seated shortly after us seemed very upset about the service as well. As we were going to pay she was watching me enter the tip price, that made me very uncomfortable and gave me unnecessary pressure. This may have been an unfortunate day and waitress, as a waitress myself I have never seen anything like this. but I believe the manager or owner should take a look into their employees, as I believe this location has so much potential. It was beautiful inside and out! But the wait time and service was very absurd. I do want to mention that the horchata was amazing despite the ice filling the whole cup. The chips were a highlight! Very good chips and salsa. As for our meals, they didn't meet our expectations because the quesadillas were very soggy over filled with juice and chicken, but I believe the other food on the menu could've been a better pick. It was our first time at this restaurant, there's a problem with parking because this area is Carlsbad downtown. If you are in a hurry don't go there. When we finally found parking, and getting inside the place is so cool, Is a Mexican restaurant. I like the decoration and they have tables outside also, and other room besides the main one to eat. Pictures of Mexican celebrities. The waiter Adam was so friendly and kind, we mentioned, we were celebrating 2 bdays he stated I got you covered. The food is very good and with a lot of options to choose from since my daughter is vegan, they gave her something she can eat. Music not loud, so you can talk and have a great time. Affordable prices, the drinks very good and strong, the right amount in a drink. After we ate, the waiter came and surprised the 2 bday girl's with a desert, that was a very kind action from him. He was singing happy bday and us. Five stars to Adam. I don't know if he was the owner, manager, but he was taking care of us seriously and professional. I'll come back for sure for another round. **Terrible Experience Due to Overbearing Manager - Will Never Return** My wife, son, and I visited Tortilla Mia this past weekend, and it was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. From the moment we sat down until we left, we felt like we were under constant surveillance, thanks to the manager (who's the only one wearing a mask). It was honestly creepy how much attention she was giving us -- and not in a good way. She acted like we were a nuisance just for being there with our baby, constantly hovering around and watching our every move. This isn't the first time we've had issues with this manager. The last time we visited, we brought our small dog and were met with the same weird behavior, so we should've known better. This time, we requested a high chair from the manager right away. After waiting for about 10 minutes with no high chair in sight, we finally asked the server for one. He promptly brought it to us and set it up at our table -- but the manager immediately came over to tell us it was blocking a walkway. We explained that the server placed it there, but she had the nerve to rudely say that the server was new and didn't know what he was doing. Honestly, we thought our server was fantastic -- great service, attentive, and polite. It was clear that he was being undermined and micromanaged by this overbearing manager, and that made us feel terrible for him. The worst part? She couldn't leave us alone. Once our food arrived, she came over again to try and force a spoon on us for our son, even though we brought our own baby-friendly utensils. We declined, and she seemed paranoid that our baby might make a mess. It was honestly like being surveilled in some kind of weird, uncomfortable way. This manager's behavior made us feel so awkward and uncomfortable that my wife and I were counting the minutes until we could leave. It's now the second time we've had this exact same issue with her. The food, the atmosphere, and the other staff are great -- but we will not be returning while she's still there. It's clear she has no business in customer service, and frankly, she should consider a career change, maybe somewhere where she can micromanage all day without creating such a negative atmosphere. Tortilla Mia, you've lost loyal customers because of one person. There are plenty of other great Mexican food spots in the area, and we'll be choosing those from now on. If you're considering dining here, be warned: the experience could be ruined by one person who thinks they're the food police. Until that manager is gone, we won't be back. read more

The steak on the nachos was so tender and flavorful! The ceviche was serviced with an odd sauce that I wasn't a fan of, I wish it was more of a citrus based sauce.
