A chill and nice place for brunch. Staff is friendly and nice and service is efficient. The menu is short and offered different classic brunch options. We chose the eggs Benedict and the fried chicken sandwich. Perfect portions, a great place for Brunch, I totally recommend it

I brought the family here for brunch on St. Patrick's Day weekend. It was Sunday and they were packed, of course. We've never had any issues with service or with the food before but this visit wasn't the best. We grabbed a table and the server came by and took our drink orders. It took a long time to get our drinks but we had to chalk that up to just about how may people were dining in. They were pretty much fully booked which was especially concerning because they only had one server and one busser working for the entire restaurant. T&H are pretty popular so I would think that of all the weekends, St. Paddy's would be the one where they would have at least one extra employee working. Our drinks were dropped off and we had to wait to place our food orders. After ordering the food, we waited for a very long time. It was kind of crazy because we were the only new table that walked in and ordered at the time we ordered. Everyone else had been there for some time. When the food finally got to the table, some of it was warm, some not so much. Our curry fries arrived last and you could tell by the state of the curry and how it was congealed, that it had been sitting and forgotten about, likely plated ahead of everything else. The food, itself, was nothing to gawk at. In my opinion, not all the prices reflected the quality or serving size of some of the dishes, but we ARE living in what seems to be a bit of a recession and inflation is wacko right now. Grub Rundown: French Toast w/Tendies - we ordered this for my kiddo. It's actually an appetizer and it was the perfect size. The chicken was breaded and fried a little hard so my kiddo had a hard time eating the meat but we took of the outside and she was OK with that. Toastie - hubbies had this dish and he liked it. It's basically a grilled ham & cheese. His only complaint was that they put raw onion and tomato on it and he would have preferred sautéed onions because the cold stuff didn't really fit for him. It was served with a hash brown and cabbage & tomato slaw/salad on the side. Bangers & Mash - my son opted for this dish and he and I split it. The serving size was quite small in regards to the mash. They gave three decent sized sausages with sautéed onions, which tasted really good, but not that much mash underneath. The dish was also not very warm. Avocado Toast - I ordered this to split with my son. Again, the serving size did not fit the price and it was kind of meh. I added lox and an egg that was sunny side up when I asked for over easy, was intrigued by the addition of the ricotta but didn't even notice it. It was also served with the hash brown and cabbage & tomato sides. Curry Fries w/Pulled Chicken - we ordered this for the table and as I said before, it arrived congealed and cold. It came some time after we received our mains so I assume it was forgotten. We didn't ask for it to be done over because we frankly did not want to wait any longer and my Little was already nearing a tantrum by the time the food did make it to us. We haven't dined here in a long time and I'll give them a pass on a super busy weekend, but when a restaurant is bustling, waiting for your food is one thing; despite any delay, the food that you're paying for and you've waiting for should be warm and appetizing.

Tortoise and Hare was a nice surprise ! It's located directly across from Van Cortlandt Park. I came spontaneously and made it right on time for happy hour. I ordered the beyond burger, which I recommend. It's potato based with lots of really great Indian spices. The guac and chips were also great. You can't beat a homemade tortilla chip! Overall, very cool bar!

This is my second time coming here. Sad I didn't upload my first review. The first time was an excellent time server was so friendly and made us an amazing cocktail. The food was so yummy Ans their happy hour was actually pretty sweet deal. I been To other happy hours and drinks were sloppy. I definitely came back her the other day and had to get the same cocktail the service was still amazing and food was delicious. Very reasonable prices. I'll definitely visit Again. The drink I like to get is called Bulleit Train To Rye

Tortoise & Hare made up for my prior "not so good" visit here... This visit was a success! As soon as we walked in, we were allowed to sit wherever we wanted, so of course I went for the booth. Right away, we were given water and brought physical menus. I was a little concerned trying anything that could be considered risky, due to my past experience here (when I got bland food). So I decided to play it safe and went for finger foods-- I mean can they really mess that up? My boyfriend got steak tacos, which were really good. My brother enjoyed his Korean barbecue wings. One star lost because the server could have been more attentive. However, I plan on returning and trying new items on the menu.

The cheese pull on this French onion soup dumpling...

Came to the area to buy an elusive best carrot cake in all of NYC next door and the name of this spot caught my attention, so did some research and it looks like everyone 's must go to here were the French onion soup dumplings... A handsome young man from Galway took my order and thus started my new obsession! Space reminds me of every mom and pop pub I had the pleasure of having a good crack at when I lived in Northern Ireland. Dark wood and high boy tables and chairs and some regular tables/seats as well it was really cozy, inviting and clean with all of the safe protocols set in place to combat Covid. This app is not a typical Asian dumpling. The outer shell\skin is more thicker and robust in texture but it totally is needed for the hot amazing French onion soup that is encased within it. Plus topped with an abundance of gooey hot melted cheese, who can say no to this convo. I look forward to coming back and actually having a sit-down dinner with a nice pint of Guinness soon. #eatlocal #supportlocal

Beet Burger & French onion with dumplings!

Sometimes you find yourself in a borough you are not that familiar with while exploring and due to hunger you run into a really cool restaurant. That's the Tortoise & Hare. I ended up here after walking Van Cortlandt park (right across) and wanting soup on a cold day. French onion soup dumplings? I had to try it. Also had the beet burger that was pretty delicious and loaded with guac. It was all tasty and I'm not even into beets. We ordered Irish coffees as well with Jameson. They hit the spot and were a treat with whipped cream on top. The ambiance here is great, filled with statues and posters of Guinness ads and you guessed it! Tortoises and Hares! There was a sign I loved as a fellow turtle lover that said "Turtle lovers parking only" and another welcoming sign of literally "welcome to the Bronx." Tip: If you love Guinness like myself, try their Gingerbread Spiced Stout. It tastes like Christmas. So good! Our waitress was nice asking how everything was and I asked for another beer but she misunderstood. I took it as a sign that I should not ruin a good thing. :)

Brunch Beet burger $16. I must say this is one of the best vegetarian burgers I've ever had.

Came here twice in the summer. Once in the evening. Once for brunch on a Saturday. Wasn't too crowded. Really terrific service both times from different servers. Menu was done well for a brunch with a $20 all you can drink option. Didn't love the eggs Benedict. Was a bit bland - unsalted. The wings were exceptional though. Prices were fair. Ambiance was above par especially for this area. Side note: I used to come by for the previous bar that used to be in this spot. It's nothing like it. This new management, menu, and look is really a delight to this VC Park neighborhood. read more

I just moved to the Bronx six months ago, I think this is my favorite pub. I don't get there nearly as much as I would like, but the food is great, the Guinness is lovely, they have a nice selection of cocktails, and the staff is top notch and friendly. Highly recommend stopping in for a pint! read more

I came here on Thursday night after running the 5k in Van Courtlandt Park. I must say the service was amazing and the food was also good. I ate the Bronx cheeseburger with cheese and bacon. I also had the Cuban mule which was really good. My friends had the vegetarian burgers which they said was really good. I do plan to come back and try other dishes. I left my water bottle and they held it until I came the next day to pick it up. read more

Really nice bar across from Van Cortlandt Park. It's in the Bronx by a few blocks, super close to the Yonkers border. I've been planning on visiting for sometime, and a nice early Saturday seemed perfect. It's a nice bar with some tables, a few TVs at the bar and a couple on the walls. The bartender was awesome. Very personable and attentive. Drink selection was great. They had a bunch of cocktails to chose from, I of course grabbed a nice cold Yuengling. The food was on point. They had these jalapeño dumplings, when I found out it was basically a popper in a dumpling shell, I was sold. They came in a bullet tray, covered in melted cheese, with a sour cream dip. Absolutely delicious. Next I ordered the Bx Breakfast Burger. It was bacon, egg and cheese on a burger served with a hash brown. They use those fast food type ones, like McDonald's has. I said screw it and put that on the burger too. It was phenomenal. Great place to hang out. I can't wait to return. read more

Ordered from this place from the park across the street. Veggie burger, amazing. 2 beef burgers, off the hook. Macaroni and cheese, to die for and the curry chicken fries, unimaginable. Best girls out picnic lunch ever. Oh and the house wine as a tequila (we brought the bottle of tequila with us ) chaser Woah!!!! Now everytime we girls are on that side of town Tortoise & Hare will definitely be our go to place. read more

Came here really excited to eat their gluten free burger and when it came time to order, they couldn't really make a gf burger. The option was to use Romaine lettuce in place of bread. Totally false advertisement. Totally disappointed. *update* they serve the GF burger with a hash brown lol never coming here again read more

The Korean BBQ wings were a winner. So delicious and good portions for the price. The garlic Parmesan wings lacked crunch and could've used more sauce and just overall flavor. I do appreciate that the menu offers options for everyone. They also have a pretty good happy hour, I ordered a margarita and it was up to par for $6. The waitress was very attentive and the environment was nice. This place has been renovated and it's very clean. It could've used some diverse music though. read more

I could cook another meal at home, but it was already 8pm. Looking up what was open on a weeknight we came across T&H. How bad could it be? The menu looked interesting so, we went. I'm so glad we did. The burger was cooked perfectly to order. The chicken sandwich was tasty and moist. And the cucumber margaritas were awesome. I had to ask, did they use cucumber infused booze or cucumber water like you find at a spa? Nope, they hand juice cucumbers and use that in the mix. Amazing. I'll be back read more

I've been to the Tortoise & Hare many times but this is my first review. I came in on the 4th of July and it was slow, but my service, food and beer was delicious. I had the Bodega Sandwich that came with fries and two cold beers - a Captain Lawrence IPA and a Coney Island Merman IPA. Quite possibly the most underwhelmingly and unsatisfying brunch I have ever had. In a city allegedly known for great brunches, two small poached eggs, a sad-ass hash brown from a box, and a salad (wtf, who wants salad at 11 am??) doesn't really cut it. They tout poached eggs like they are somehow unique (they are not) and mine came contaminated with little turds of the most sickly-sweet pulled pork (I'm assuming from a can). My one star goes to the nice bartender dude who was affable and smiling. I hope he can find a new place to work soon. read more

OMG. I LOVED this place!!! Came on a weekday in the evening. The environment surprised me. From the outside it doesn't look very appealing, but the inside is very nice!! We had the Mac and cheese and the Caesar salad with chicken... DELISH! Both! I love m&c so trust when I say it was bomb. The drinks were greatttt. Try the Pom-Berry! Everything was very decently priced. Sophie was super great and friendly. Can't wait to return! read more

This is my favorite local bar in Riverdale! They offer a variety of flavors for wings which is always a plus. Additionally, they have vegetarian/vegan options which is amazing and not something you see at small bars. They also have brunch on Saturdays and Sundays where you and friends can partake in bottomless mimosas (they have other options too) because who doesn't love a boozy brunch?! My boyfriend and I try to come here at least once a week because not only is their food great, but the service is extraordinary. From the staff to the owner, Anthony, they are all kind, respectful, and make you feel welcomed. Anthony caters to everyone who walks into his restaurant which once again is amazing and I wish you could see this more at other local bars. If you have not checked out this place, what are you waiting for because you are FOR SURE missing out!!! read more

This was my second time coming here and I absolutely adore this little gem! It's a new place and I think I enjoy it most because it hasn't been discovered by everyone yet to ruin it. It has great food and exceptionally friendly staff! The vibe is very relaxed and upbeat ! There's a juke box with up to date music to keep up the good mood. Definitely will be returning here whenever we're in town! read more

Came here for brunch a few weeks ago and had a great time! We got there around 11:30 on a saturday and it was not too crowded. The menu had a lot of options! I had nutella toast that was really good. The hash browns were also really good! The bottomless drinks are a really good deal. If you plan on getting more than 2 drinks it is more economical to do the bottomless. Not a single complaint about this restaurant! Will definitely come back! read more

Some of the best food you will get in the Bronx with unreal service. All of the dumplings are to die for, and the chicken sandwiches and burgers hit the spot. Went for the Shrimp Tacos for the first time and they beat my expectations. The waitress Dolly was very attentive and kept us from being thirsty. read more

What's not to love about this place? The music is always great, the food is amazing (I'm a huge fan of their loaded mac and cheese, always hot when it comes out) and the real reason why anyone goes to bars: the drinks. The names are as whimsical as the name of the bar, the wait staff are so friendly and attentive, down to having supplies in the bathroom for women! It's a great place to catch a few beers and watch the game, catch up with friends, or celebrate your birthday! I went last year for my birthday for the birthday brunch special and we all had a blast! read more

I really like the vibe here. It's low key without being too dull or empty. Foods always good and the drinks are strong. Anthony the bartender is always friendly and remembers your drink orders. This is my favorite bar/restaurant in my neighborhood. I frequent this establishment during happy hour. It is not a extensive menu but everything they serve is quite tasty. I especially love.the mac and cheese and shrimp tacos(Keto Style)My entire family has attended the trivia night on Thursdays, loads of fun. We had a party for my son this past August, we had 20 people.and everyone commented on the food and the continuity of service these guys know what they are doing. You shouldn't hesitate to visit. read more

I asked our waiter if he was a manager and shared my complaints with him because well if that's the manager and he acts like that, then I could only imagine him if we approached and confronted his behavior. I will never be back to this BBQs ever and whoever that guy is definitely needs a couple lessons in service. As someone who used to work as a waitress herself, I was completely baffled at his attitude especially since we were just trying to accommodate our dad who I must repeat was IN A BOOT AND CRUTCHES. Wish I would've gotten his name but absolutely left a terrible taste in my mouth about this place. Thankfully our server was very nice and made up for that man's unpleasantness.

Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or apologizing for the confusion, the restaurant chose to challenge my account. I have no reason to misrepresent what happened. My review reflects exactly what my group experienced that evening. This isn't about expecting to be served after closing. It's about arriving during the posted business hours at two separate locations and being turned away both times. If the kitchen closes early or there is a last-seating policy, that information should be clearly posted online and at the restaurant. Customers shouldn't have to guess whether "open" actually means the business is still serving guests. For a restaurant that has received so much praise, I expected far better customer service and accountability. Great food can earn awards, but honesty, consistency, and respect for customers are what earn loyalty. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend making a special trip here unless you're prepared for the possibility that the posted hours may not reflect when they'll actually serve customers.

I brought it home to eat and it was truly tasty and delicious- and amazingly was still hot despite the 20 minute journey. My only complaint is that I found it to be extremely salty - and I do not shy away from salt in my food.

It had been a while since I had been here and I was focused on the number one item on the menu: the 53oz bone in Cote de Boeuf, always medium rare, which I believe is one of the best values for carnivores in town. Once seated in the corner near the front window, I perused their new menu off the new menu from the QR code. I noticed the pork belly over chickpeas and ordered that along with a glass of red sangria. Irma took my order and I explained I wanted a fruity non fortified red sangria. It was very good. Irma forgot the bread and butter they usually serve and they brought it later after her shift ended. The pork belly was very good and so crisp. The serrated steak knife was necessary. The fat was largely rendered out, but still present between the crackling skin and the savory meat underneath. It was two thick slabs over the chickpeas and a substantial appetizer for 16 bucks. Some appetites could enjoy this as a main with a salad and be fine. That would not be me this evening. I ordered the Cote de Boeuf medium rare, which comes with grilled onions and two sides, which I chose the whipped potatoes and the asparagus, the latter new to the menu. I also ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese as an extra, which is now served with Gruyere as an additional cheese to the mix. The Gruyere is new and it adds a sharpness juxtaposed with the sweet lobster meat and puts this over the top for me. They adjoined the neighboring free table and presented the steak sizzling and pre-cut nicely from the kitchen. I tried to take a video of that moment without success. I told them to hold all the sauces they offer and just bring the citrus salt. This magnificent cut only needs the citrus salt and nothing more; though, you will find those grilled onions go well with this cut. At $125 for this hunk of bone in excellence, this is one of the best cuts served in NYC at an irrefutably great value, with the sides included, save for the Lobster Mac and Cheese. So juicy and flavorsome highlighted with the citrus salt, that pink center with the ring is evident of what the skillful chefs can do here at Home Bx. The steak at Home Bx may be aged, dry or wet, I cannot confirm; however, the edge goes to less than a handful of the other steakhouses for flavor, but none at this price. The whipped potatoes are great and are the perfect accomplishment for steak. I don't know why the whipped potatoes are served modestly for such a large steak, but they are very good. The asparagus, new to the menu, are about six large spears and are not overcooked. The salt and juice runoff from the steak go well with the asparagus counterpoint. The Lobster Mac and Cheese deserves repeat mention, with the addition of Gruyere cheese. It now has more refined and balanced flavor, with the Gruyere and lobster playing off each other. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is a must have here. It's that good and goes well with the steak. 4.3 stars! Stay tuned for part two of this review. I ordered the new pork chop on the menu and the roast chicken to go.

Tortoise & Hare is so nice, I wish I could hang here every day. Tortoise & Hare had great atmosphere, ambiance, cleanliness and customer service. I have to admit, Korean BBQ Wings was really magnificent. I think that I might have a new favorite dish now. Everybody seems genuinely nice here. Always a great vibe here. Shrimp Tacos with Guac is the bomb. I find it hard to order anything else but when I'm there with friends we always add on French Onion Soup Dumplings & Meatballs. The Tortoise & Hare is a awesome bar with delicious food & great waitstaff. My husband & I love Riverdale & T&H is definitely on the list of why we do. All the drinks are great & our favs off the menu are the Irish Toastie, the chicken sandwich & the Bodega sandwich is one for the books!!! read more

This place is wack. The owner is a pompous schmuck. If you want to have a good time don't go here. Your money is better spent someplace else. I went there to hang out on my Birthday I regret it. I will never go back. Stay away, trust me I'm a local. Bad news!!! read more

Love my local neighborhood bar across from Van Cortlandt Park. Delicious food, excellent cocktails, attentive and warm service. Live music once a month as well as Trivia each Thursday starting up again in September. Bottomless weekend brunch too! read more
