Tosca's is by far the best Restaurant in the area. Chef Cousin is a well know chef. He puts time and effort in preparing, cooking and presenting his delicious food. I stopped going to Tosca under it's previous owners because of the "clique-y" atmosphere. Patrons wandering from table to table visiting their friends, talking loudly and not demonstrating much regard for other diners. Oct 28 I decided to try it again after hearing that it had reopened. Not much has changed. There is no sound deadening (drapes, hangings, etc) and because of the loud conversations it makes it difficult to carry on a conversation. And again the regulars" seem to govern. Still visiting at tables, moving towards the kitchen to chat with the staff and carrying on conversations at levels that I felt was rude. So much for the negative. On the positive side, the food was excellent and the staff was outstanding. I must say, that if you are in the area with a small group of friends, this would be a great place eat and hang-out. Not recommended for a business-type meal where you might want to discuss work agenda or for a quiet meal for two. I am actually disappointed. I have been going to Tosca for nearly 11 years now! When I first met my partner, it was Tosca that, I wined and dined him in to what will be our 11 year anniversary in May. We have already agreed to return to Tosca for dinner and drinks as away to bring us back to the many nights we have spent there with both family and friends! The atmosphere is perfect even if you end up sitting at " Table 9" which has a history of its own among staff! The food is truly amazing. The most difficult part for me is limiting what I order as the lobster ravioli is to die for as are there steaks,fish and presentation that is delivered. Be sure to save room for desert even if you decide to share as the cream Bruleau ( I'm sure I killed the spelling, but it can't be any worse then how well I managed to do the same to the dessert! While it has been a fer years since we have been back, I have no doubt that Caroline and her gang will welcome us with the same friendly and special attention we have always experienced! I do recommend calling ahead to make a reservation, as they are always jamming! If you don't make one there is always room at the bar to settle in for a drink to start off what will be an excellent experience! They offer a dreat wine list and killer Martini from what I remember! Sue, the owner when given the bill with the money and tip returned the tip to us and when I told her that the tip was all set , she snottily responded "what that?" and left the tip on the table .. when I picked it up there was only $10.00 there and we had left $30.00 on a $150.00 BILL. i THEN APPROACHED HER AND TOLD HER THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER $20 THAT SHE DIDNT SEE THE FIRST TIME AROUND AND WHEN i pointed OUT the $20.00 she had not seen, she said thanks and abrutly turned away without an apology. 3.5 stars. Tosca is a nice little Italian-inspired restaurant located in a strip center in Suffield. The space is relatively small and subsequently intimate with low lighting and white linen-covered tables. The space has a good vibe going for it, and it would be a great date place. Tonight we arrived right at our reservation time of 7:30 and we are immediately advised - even before being seated - that the kitchen is behind. Expect a slow evening the hostess says. Well, alrighty then. Set low expectations up front and then exceed them. Our server comes to our table about 10 minutes after we're seated. We order drinks. About 10 minutes later our drinks arrive. We ask for bread. Another request for bread is made about 10 minutes after that. We've been here about 30 minutes and we've just received bread. I'm thinking that the problem may not be the kitchen. Service was to be lousy all night long, right to the finish. The good news is that the food at Tosca is very good, easily 4+ stars. Bolognese sauce is a good test of authenticity and a chef's talent. Often on a menu. Rarely does the ragu measure up to its Italian lineage. At Tosca Bolgnese is the real deal. Organically farmed salmon over risotto or cous cous (depending on the menu of the day) is terrific. Perfectly done. Beautifully plated. The house loves their desserts. Home made ice cream is a delicious specialty. Tonight we order the cannoli. It's two mini chocolate covered cannolis filled with a lusciously sweet cheese filling. Unfortunately the cappuccino machine was acting up, and the server came back after the cannoli was devoured to advise us that the coffee drink was still being brewed. Too late. Another service faux pas. Prices are not inexpensive at Tosca. Personally, I wouldn't mind the prices if the service was equal to the food. Clearly the service at Tosca can be off - way off. First, let me focus on the good: the food was excellent. We had a nice meal and nice deserts. The portions were decent as well. Now let's focus on the place itself. Cold in the winter, with a dumb little space heater trying to make up for a larger problem. No very good seats - it's a flexible space, but one couldn't never call it comfortable. Staff members chatting among themselves. Dragging chairs across the floor is never cool, nor is rearranging the seating in preparation for tomorrow. I love Tosca. Their service is wonderful and I love that they source a lot of their food locally. It is also extremely gluten free friendly and they are exceptionally knowledgable. Dined here recently when staying overnight near the airport for an early morning flight out. Boy, was I ever happy to stumble onto this place! I Cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. We had reservations for 6. When we arrived the restaurant was half full (small place). It took over an hour for our appetizers to arrive. We were offered no bread while we waited. After two hours our dinner had still not arrived. We talked to our server about offering us SOMETHING for our wait (dessert, a drink) she talked to the chef who offered no apologies and said he would offer us nothing for our wait. The steak came and it was over cooked (order medium and it was well done) no steak knives and it was tough as anything. I have NEVER experienced such disregard for customer experienced. Tosca is always consistent and delicious. We've had most items on the menu. Some highlights are the short ribs and mac and cheese, scallops, filet, and the pork chop. Grilled romaine salad and broccoli Caesar salad are also delicious. Cocktails are well-made and service is always top notch. Staff like Nick and Julie always make it a great experience. Food is good but way over priced especially considering the atmosphere. Tosca is very small hence is very loud. On our last visit we were served wine by the glass, $10, that came in an unwashed dirty glass. Our waitress simply poured the now contaminated wine into a different glass thinking nothing of it. Lighting is so dim that in order to read the menu, you need to use the light on your cell phone. Check came with items included on it that had not been ordered. Granted there is not much to choose from in Suffield, however the chef/owner needs to really take a look at what is happening in the dining room. My wife and I received a Tosca gift card as a present. We have tried to use it on two occasions but, both times, we were told that their gift card machine was not working and that we could not use it. We talked to the owner/chef, Kevin Cousins, about giving us the credit on our bill. He refused to do that and was rude to us. We told him we are not coming back and he said "OK" and walked away. Wife and I had an enjoyable dinner here early on a recent Saturday evening. Inside is quite small yet not as intimate as you might think--tables are close together. We started off with two excellent cocktails....wife had some sort of pumpkin martini and raved about it. I had a jack and coke...big in size and packed with jack. very good. we shared a risotto ball app and liked it. four little balls..very tasty. salads looked too fancy for our taste. Wife had a scallops entrée...four huge scallops broiled perfectly. I had the Bolognese alla Tosca....rigatoni in a veal,pork and beef sauce. we both enjoyed our meals. We came in for a drink and asked for a pomegranate tots and a margarita. We were told by a friend who recommended them that these were great drinks. The drinks were not great and for happy hour it they did not have specials And seemed very quiet, more like a wine bar. Recently went for our anniversary we had beef carpaccio for an app with fried capers was beyond!! For our entrees we had gotten braised short rib with truffle mac! The sauce on the braised short rib was a red wine and out of this world!! And we also got Cajun chicken pasta with chorizo great as we'll!! We sat in the miny table in the bar it was perfect for two! Had an excellent meal last weekend. Specials included a cast iron seared prime strip steak that we got a peek at looking at the table next to us. That patron happily recommended it and three of us had it and, hands down, best non-steakhouse steak I have ever had. Truffle fries were hot and addictive. Our other diner had the lamb special and was quite happy with it. We split salads, had shrimp cocktail and risotto balls to start, all were great. Small but satisfying menu (something for everyone especially when specials added in), everything well priced, definitely a place I recommend and would happily return to. Want a great desert? Plenty to choose from - we had the 4 ice cream cones - phenomenal gourmet product in bite size cones - just right after the significant meal we just finished. I agree that Tosca is great for food as well as service. We live within a really short walk and have gone on the spur when the weather is great and the outdoor dining is available. Whenever people visit us from out of town we take them to our neighborhood restaurant, Tosca and they are all blown away. The menu is exciting and innovative and we have never been disappointed by a single meal. The service is par with the food, excellent. Well, my friend and I had people coming in from out of town and staying near the airport, we live in the Belchertown area so felt this was a nice middle ground. My friend called and made reservations for 7 of us for 01/02. He then called back to change the reservation to 5 people as 2 could not make it. The woman on the phone was very nice and said "She looked forward to seeing us". Imagine our surprise when we showed up and there was a sign on the door stating Tosca's was closed for the week. She had our phone number, but we received no phone call. Friends in the Suffield area gave us mixed reviews on Tosca, I for one will never go back after being treated so poorly. read more

I visited a few weeks ago. The place was nice, clean, didn't check restroom. The bartender seemed nice, friendly. The amuse' was a nice surprise of goat cheese? date and a pomegranate reduction. For dinner I was torn between the short ribs and scallops, went with scallops. The risotto was terrific, well cooked and flavorful. The asparagus was also well cooked, al dente' . The scallops however were well over cooked, mind you I don't mind mine on the done side, would have benefited from not being cut in half. That being said, dinner was around 28 dollars and there were actually 3 scallops, 6 halves. A bit disappointed in that aspect but will try again to get the ribs. read more

Our waitress could not be found ( the place is very small) so I mentioned something to the waitrees serving the table next to us and she said she would let the chef know. After waiting several minutes for some sort of response I flagged the hostess over and told her about the issue and her response was " that's too bad" in endearing tone and walked away. We wanted to dine at Tosca's on a Tuesday night. My wife called three times during the day and left a message to call us to confirm the reservation, but no call was received. Finally, we succeeded in actually speaking to someone and confirming the reservation. When we arrived, we were seated promptly, but had to wait 15 minutes to receive a menu, another 15 minutes to get a glass of wine, and I had to ask for rolls. We all had the salmon dish, and two of the four of us requested the salmon to be cooked well done. Unfortunately, they were all cooked well done, and we had to wait close to 25 minutes in a now almost empty restaurant to receive our entrées. The waitresses excuse was, "I was caught up at another table, sorry." I hope the abominable service does not reflect the quality on a routine basis, because it was some of the worst service I have ever had anywhere. read more
