Today was our first time at Silvias and it certainly won't be our last. Service and recommendations was was wonderful. Silvia made us feel like we were dining with family. All four of us were so impressed with the dishes we ordered. Presentation and portions were amazing. The flavors, and seasoning was perfection! Attention to detail, going the extra mile, and the joy and pride of the food we were served.. The two young men, one a chef were also so kind and service they gave us was the best and we were so impressed. From the homemade wine, the plate of several different kinds of bread, the salad, the stuffed cabbage and kielbasa appetizer we shared, we all couldn't stop praising how delicious they were. Our dinners were, Ukraine goulosh, chicken Pakash?, rib eye stroganoff, and chicken parmasan. The pastas are made from scratch and ohhh...so billowy soft and best ever. We all had a lot of leftovers to take home as portions were quite large. On the way home we were already talking about other dishes we want to try on our next visit. Ever since my son was young, we loved going to restaurants. Lately, we have found old favorite restaurants have gone down in quality. Prior to going, I looked at the menu and knew what I wanted to order. I had planned to order enough so I could have enough so I wouldn't have to cook this week-end. Before you go this restaurant, make sure your stomach is empty. Also, be sure to ask what sauce/s come with the item (the sauces tend to be creamy; I cannot eat creamy foods). When we went, we were the only customers (I cannot believe there wasn't more customers.). The owner welcomed us and served us. I ordered three appetizers-calamari with marinara sauce (not greasy; the marinara was the best I have ever had), wings (large and oh so tasty), and scallops wrapped in bacon (high quality bacon; scallops were tender). The vegetable soup with chicken--one of the best soups ever-large pieces of chicken and vegetables, fresh herbs. Fresh bread was served with the meal--absolutely superb. Salad was served on a large platter--salad had very fresh vegetables. Entrees-I had veal Marcella with fresh mushrooms with a tasty wine sauce which was served on a large platter. My son had goulash with three different meats and extremely tender. Portion sizes are huge-one serving here is equal to 3 servings at most restaurants. I had a chocolate brownie cake that was so delicious, I did buy bread to take home-challah and apricot (when we got got, we had a piece of both---the best ever). My son had their wine they were serving that day--His words not mine, "The best wine I have ever had; I could drink this all day!!!!!!!!" I highly recommend--MAKE SURE YOU ARE HUNGRY BEFORE YOU GO. Service was very slow but pleasant because only 3 workers, including Ms. Silvia. Give extra time because cooking is very slow and fresh. All I can say is AMAZING!!!!!! I f you haven't eaten at Silvia's you have missed a fantastic dining experience. Full bar with specialty cocktails and beer along with really good raspberry tea started us off. From the plate of warm homemade bread and butter to the cappuccino to finish off the meal everything was delicious. Silvia and Camaro our server saw to all our needs. The soup, which was amazing, comes in a tureen style dish and the salad came out on on huge platter, as did our meals as pictured! We had enough for 3 meals each and we loved everything! We also shared a pieorgi app that was scrumptious I wish I had taken pictures of every dish! The owner/chef is very nice and goes out of her way to make sure everyone has a good experience. The food was beyond delicious and plentiful! We ordered the Polish Holiday Platter and the Surf & Turf. Steak was beautifully cooked and the pan fried shrimp was very tasteful. The garlicky potato fries were so good. The polish platter had homemade sourkraut, chicken schnitzel that was do tender you could cut it with a fork, cabbagerolls and delicious kielbasa!!! We were having a meal for 22 catered and had not eaten at Sylvia's previously. We went to lunch the day prior for a test run. I had an eight ounce burger/home fries for $8.50 and my wife a BOWL of soup equivalent to two normal bowls. I did not finish my portion and the soup was delicious. On the night of the catering we went to Sylvia's to pick up the meal. Beef stroganoff, German mashed, salad, four styles of bread and two types of dessert equaled seven large aluminum trays filled, hot and ready on time. It was $20 per person. Most attendees had second servings. There was so much food that many people took home doggie bags. It was a fantastic meal served with love. Sylvia takes great pride in her business. read more

We ended up here after purchasing a Groupon, and I'm so glad we did! The owner took our order and made our food, and she was great! She modified our meal a bit, replacing soup with an extra large salad (we are vegetarian and the soup had chicken in it). Wow! Can't believe the quality of the food here and the huge portions. We were served hot raisin bread almost as soon as we sat down. The salad was huge with just right mix topped with balsamic dressing, again the best I've ever tasted. The owner has over 30 years cooking experience and that was to our benefit. We had the special that day that was very generous potions of lamb cooked perfectly and tender that also included zucchini, potato, broccoli, red beans and topped with a large green olive. I've driven by the area many times and never knew it was here. It beats any restaurant in Enfield that I know of hands down. Beautifully decorated inside as well. Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? That's probably the best way to describe an UNFORGETTABLE night of meats and petty larceny at Silvia's. While in Enfield for a business convention, myself and a group of friends decided to try out Silvia's for Friday evening dinner. Intrigued at the thought of Eastern European cuisine, I figured why not? What could go wrong? Well my friends, read on. Leaving the convention hotel, we make the short trek to Silvia's, on the other side of town. Pulling up to the place, I'm a little perplexed; it's early Friday evening, and the place is empty. Only one other car in the small lot, no readily discernible "open" signs displayed or turned on, and the front door wide open. While my first thought was that the Russian mafia had just wrapped up a hit and cleared the place out...and that we should Waze the closest McDonald's...myself and my companions walk inside. Thankfully, no bullet-riddled corpses or swarthy Adidas tracksuit-wearing Russian gangsters were inside to greet us; only a family of four were inside, seated off in a corner. Dimly-lit, the decor was sparse, with a bar off to the left (note this detail), along with what looked like a deli counter, a DJ booth straight ahead, and tables scattered about. We were quickly greeted by a small lady, who we soon learned was Silvia herself. "You have reservation??" was the first thing from her Natasha Fatale lips. Looking around, I guess she must have thought moose and squirrel had all the tables booked, but she suddenly insists "Sit! Any table!". Alrighty. We're told that she had just wrapped up a wedding dinner party with over 100 people, and that she "Have meats! Roast pork, beef, chicken! And mashed potato!" Not knowing how to say no to such a cornucopia ... no, a cavalcade of meats ... and the fact the she didn't have anything else, since apparently the menus we were handed were just for show, we stay put, despite our lingering doubts. We sit and wait, and wait some more, before one of her harried staff finally come to check on us. One of them proudly, but awkwardly, comes tableside to present an impressive roasting pan laden with roast beef and pork loins. Shortly after the meat display, food starts to arrive. It's all done family style, and a large round loaf of warm European-style bread is brought out, along with individual pats of butter. The bread was tasty, though I suspect was microwaved, from hints of tough and chewy parts around the edges. Tureens of soup are brought out next. A hearty farmer's soup, with lots of vegetables, and flavored with dill, was very tasty and filling. A large platter of salad was brought out next, and though was slightly below room temp (I prefer my salads as cold as my ex-GF's glare), was good; mixed greens tossed with just the right amount of house dressing. While we're eating, one of our group notices a rather dapper looking fellow step in and linger by the doorway. No shirt (to better display his jailhouse tats), titled ball cap, black boxers, and khaki pants hanging well below his waist, immediately made me think he was there to inquire about renting the place for his equity firm's next holiday party. Hey, it could have been casual Friday at the office, I'm not one to judge. But he quickly leaves. After that distraction, we turn our attention back to the food. Soon family-style platters of meat are brought to the table, as Silvia promised, no, proclaimed. Thick slabs of medium-well beef and roast pork were piled high, and we dug in heartily. The cuts were lean and tasty, and almost tender enough to cut with a fork. Seasoning was simple...mostly salt and pepper, maybe a bit of garlic. While we're eating, you notice our high-finance friend return, this time with a foam takeout container in hand. Guess he must have had some issues with the foie gras and truffles he ordered to-go, since he got into an animated discussion with one of the employees. He steps up to the bar counter to discuss things further, while the employee goes into the back. And then our high-society friend steps around the bar counter, grabs a bottle of bottom shelf rotgut, and does an Usain Bolt impression out the front door. "He just stole a bottle!" one of my friends proclaims, where at this point, one of the employees gives chase. They didn't bring him back, but they brought a couple cruisers' worth of Enfield PD's finest, who seemed amused by all the goings-on as well. We gave a description of the guy, despite us trying not to break out laughing. After that, the rest of the evening was uneventful. While this dinner was the most bizarre I've ever sat through, the food was good, and plentiful. My only complaint was the service, or lack thereof. While I'd knock off a star for that, I'd restore one for the fact they gave us one of the nuttiest dinner experiences ever. read more

A friend of mine recently brought me to Silvia's and I'm glad he did. This restaurant a great find. I had fish and chips and the fish was the most delicately fried I've ever had. This is a hidden gem. From the bread, salad, main course and desert, everything is home made from scratch and to order. If you have dietary restrictions, she will work around that. Everything is fresh and the amount of food for the price she is a true value. Reservations are requested so she knows how many people to expect. Remember, she is the chief cook, server and bottle washer. She does have two others helping but it is mainly her doing everything and with that perfection comes times so patience is a must when you visit. Leave your attitude home and just enjoy walking into Sylvia's home / kitchen to eat a wonderfully prepared home cooked meal. Called and made a reservation easily. When we got there we were seated right away. Silvia handled everything.there are about 5 tables that were on one side (this is a banquet hall). There is a large menu about 4 pages. On the menu it says all meals come with soup, salad, and bread. We overheard the couple beside us try to order and they had a hard time because each time they would say something they were told that they didn't have it... to the point where I was thinking to myself "you should just tell us what we can have and save everyone time" it was very awkward. When it was our turn to order my husband asked if they had the whole fish. To which she said no and that she could do fried fish. "We have in beautiful white fish" she said. So that's what he ordered. I asked if she had the fried shrimp and scallops and she said she didn't have scallops but would do fried shrimp and fish for me. About 20 minutes later she came out it with a large plate of fried shrimp, vegetables, and then steamed shrimp and scallops drenched in a butter garlic sauce. She said "I didn't have what I needed so I made this"..... at this point we are already over an hour into the meal and just look at it..... my husband doesn't like shrimp or scallops so it was so disappointing. Both meals on the menu were listed at $22-$27. After we boxed up 2 boxes of food since it was so much and only I was eating, she brought out a plate of desserts. We didn't ask for these. We both got drinks. The total came out to over $80... and she brought the total over just written down on a piece of receipt paper..... this whole experience was just too much and we were kind to her the whole time. She offered to cook whatever we liked but gave us a menu anyway. I asked her what she was cooking and she said the Beef Stroganoff was melt in your mouth tender...The 2 of us ordered it. First homemade bread...like challah with raisins. Second a wonderful soup in a turine with lamb that was amazing along with vegetables. Third an extremely fresh salad..I am not a salad person but this was good. Fourth the beef dish with the most incredible potatoes i have ever had..garlic..dill..freshly cut and cooked to order along with the most tender beef i have ever had with a brown sauce. Sylvia comes to our table to ask how it was and i tell her i need to bring my 86 year old mother here next. We ordered the Romanian fisherman's platter and the Romanian friptura and the stuffed cabbage and they were all amazing! Best restaurant in the valley.
