We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated promptly, nice hot bread & oil to start. Waitress was friendly and very helpful with wine selections as well as specials. She never got beyond escargot my wife & I shared and her sister (here visiting from Florence, IT.) had a dish of sardines & sautéed veggies that we all got to try & enjoy. Lobster ravioli, shrimp & scallops over linguini was cooked to perfection. We had dinner here on our first day of a Glimmerglass-filled vacation. The food was ample and tasted very good. We had a fish special and the Tuscan pasta, the latter loaded with meat and delicately cut eggplant. I could have eaten it for days! There is a big selection of beers, including some from nearby Ommegang brewery. Service was exceptional. The restaurant seemed a bit on the smaller side, but they were able to get us seats without reservations - we went around 6pm. Two people, shared appetizer, two entrées, two beers came to around $55 before tip. I'm giving five starts because I found myself digging for something to critique. We dined on a very quiet Monday night during the off-season at Cooperstown (April 2014). I live in an area with very good italian food on every other street corner, so don't normally seek out Italian restaurants specifically while vacationing. But I am so glad we landed here. Cooperstown does not have a lot of gourmet options, and many are closed on Mondays. The food at Toscana was absolutely incredible. I wanted to personally tell the chef "Thank You" for offering me the option of trying some food that I have never ever tried before. We dined early with two restaurant-raised kids ages 5 and 11. We started with your standard calamari that my husband and son said were great. An order of lemongrass potstickers (Yes, this restaurant says it is a Fusion Grille!); these were amazing. And I got to try the cosican style sardines that were so yummy; I had never had cold marinated sardines before and they were so tasty, melted in my mouth and left it singing with flavors I had never before experienced and were beautifully presented (see my photo). Both the sardines and potstickers were off their Special Menu. Note that they also offered Frogs Legs! For entrees, my youngest son had the kids spaghetti and meatball and I have to tell you that it honestly was one of the best meatballs, I had ever tried--I sensed that it had a mix of ground meats, it was so tender, full of flavor and giant. (Later, I heard from another family that they had sold out of the meatballs). My other son, who is fussy, had plain cheese ravioli that he said were very good. My husband had the osso bucco which he adored in its usual fall-off-the-bone goodness and rich veal and tomato stock broth. (I also heard that they later ran out of this item as well.) For myself, I decided to try another item off their Special Menu labeled simply TILE FISH. I had never had it before, so after our server gave me a good description, I googled to see a picture. Google described it as a thick white fish similar in taste to lobster (aka "poor mans lobster). Well, the fish was wrapped in crab meat and simply sauteed and served over my choice of pasta or I could have selected mashed and veg. I have to tell you that the fish was one of the most incredible fish dishes I have ever tasted, and I could tell that this chef clearly knows how to cook pasta as the sauce formed was almost silken and just glazed the perfectly cooked linguini like it had been finished with some pasta water and was perfect. The crab and fish coated the pasta beautifully. We also had a side of sauteed spinach that was also perfect. For dessert, we couldn't resist the chocolate mousse and creme brulee served in a mug. My husband and son devoured the silken balls of chocolate mousse that appeared to have been dusted with finely shaved cocoa nibs or something elset that resembled ground pepper. And the creme brulee was some of the smoothest I have ever tasted; I was super happy with my choice, but I feel that the more traditional recepticle of a short ramekin would have offered a better ratio of the crispy sugared top to the creme below, but I was not complaining. Our server was a gem as well; very professional and responsive to all my questions. What a terrific gourmet place in the middle of this historic little street full of many American family-friendly restaurants. You must go and experience this chef's masterpieces. We were in Cooperstown for the day and had lunch here. We were pleasantly surprised. Overall the food was quite good. As an aside, according to the sign up front the restaurant bills itself as "fusion Italian." I'm not sure what they think that means. Generally "fusion" implies a combination of 2 different food styles or traditions in one dish. That wasn't what we found here. Instead, what it seemed to be was a combination of a few different types of food: traditional mom and pop Italian (red sauce and pasta, etc.), more nouveau Italian (escargo and frog's legs) and a few Asian dishes tossed in for good measure. So it was a bit of a smorgasbord, but the thing is--they did it pretty well. My husband, who lived in Japan for 2 years, ordered the seared tuna (which was served as an Asian dish with soy sauce, wasabi, and a shredded zucchini salad) and he really liked it. He said the tuna was high quality and it was a very authentic dish overall. I had the rolled eggplant parm appetizer for lunch (can't recall the exact name) and it was quite good. I think they accidentally dropped a few pieces of gorgonzola into the ricotta in one of the rolls, which added a strange taste to it, but even then, it was good. And our kids really enjoyed their meals as well. All in all a good meal (and if you're choosing between this and the other Italian place down the street--Nicoletta's, pick this one). After a five hour visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame, my son and I were hungry for dinner before leaving Cooperstown. On our way back to the car we stopped in for dinner. Wasn't expecting much except to fill our stomachs. Were we in for a surprise! The food, everything from the bread to the salad to entrees was outstanding! White table cloths and linens, very friendly staff and a good, upbeat vibe throughout the restaurant. Reminded me of being home in California at a hip restaurant. The main dishes are delicious and come with your choice of pasta. I had a wonderful shrimp with linguini dish that was fantastic... full of flavor wth a wonderful texture to the pasta. My son said his chicken pasta meal was delicious as well. The prices were very reasonable for this type establishment, particularly when one considers it's a small town and the restaurant has a captive audience being that it's across the street from the l Hall of Fame Museum. We had an excellent meal here after a day of doing the brew tour. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and not intrusive. The food was delicious. I enjoyed every thing, though we really didn't have much room after that delicious starter bread and the sardine appetizers. The environment is a combination of low-dark rooms and city grit. We saw such great reviews for this place that we decided to have Sunday dinner there. To our surprise, it was empty when we showed up at 7pm. The emptiness had no affect on how delicious the food was there. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with great art work on every wall. Our waitress was so nice and helpful, we ordered the calamari as our appetizer which was perfectly cooked. I ordered the Osso Bucco, the pork was so tender and the potatoes were full of flavor. I don't usually gush over a restaurant, but honestly, the dinner we had here a few days ago (early October, 2017) while visiting Cooperstown, NY was among the most delicious Italian meals I have ever eaten (and I have spent some time in Italy over the years). Alex, the owner, greeted us at the door and could not have been more charming and pleasant. He took really good care of us, suggesting wine with dinner, and ensuring that our orders (we ordered the Chicken Parmesan dinner with Angel hair pasta) were cooked to perfection, and they were. Our whole Family came to celebrate our son's 16th birthday. We chose this place after reading other reviews on yelp. We expected a lot and it turned out to top these expectation. The service was great. The food was even better. And the experience with the family was priceless. Two of us enjoyed the salmon. It was some of the best fish we've had in a long time. One of us had the meatballs. Harty and awesome, although there was a little bit too much sauce. Our fourth meal was the seafood over pasta with red sauce. Seeing as how far we are away from the coast, It was wonderful. Our evening was topped off with a flourless chocolate cake with a lit candle in it provided complementary by the restaurant for my son's birthday. I came to Cooperstown from Michigan and decided to check it out.This restaurant is excellent. They have really good service and serve the best Chicken Parm that I've ever had. No joke. IT WAS SO GOOD. I had left-overs and the left overs were even phenomenal. I highly recommend trying this place. You will not regret it. UPDATE Jan 2, 2017: I visited this restaurant in April 2016, and have yet to find chicken parm as good as I had here. I am a red sauce snob. And Toscana definitely exceeded expectations. We ordered the meatball appetizer, which was a generous portion of silky meatballs nicely juxtaposed with a dollop of cold ricotta all swimming in some super tasty red sauce. Seriously you could taste the time they put into melting those onions. Entrees were equally as delicious. Husband had the veal parm and I went for the eggplant parm. They both were massive. And served with a large side of pasta. Tip - if you order an app then split the entree. Or hope that your b&b has a fridge. Didn't have the stomach room to try the desserts but I'm sure they were fantastic too. If you're in Cooperstown, you must go here. It's the American thing to do. read more

Go here and eat...if you want Italian and you're in Cooperstown, you will be happy. The staff was super nice. The day we were there it was snowing, so we were the only ones there and the waitress chatted with us (which we liked because we just moved to this quiet little town and the best way to learn the ins and outs is to chat with the locals). They just obtained their wine and beer license, and you could tell our waitress was not a wine drinker, but we had the house merlot and it was good. I know I know stop rambling and talk about the food. We had garlic bread, Ravioli in Vodka sauce and Penne in a four cheese (because 3 is just never enough) vodka sauce. For dessert we had the flour-less expresso cake. Everything was delish! The portions were huge, even the dessert. I know silly thing to complain about...so I won't. I don't like to rate a restaurant on anything but the food so, the food was a 4, the service was a 2. My fiance ordered the special which was scallops and shrimp over pasta and he loved it. I had a marsala chicken dish which was pretty good but nothing to write home about. The bruschetta as an app was good, though the free bread was actually better than the bruschetta so we wished we hadn't ordered it. The service was by far the slowest of any place we went to in Cooperstown. We were also brought the wrong meals at one point, had water spilled into our plate of food, and pretty much ignored for the regulars that were there. read more

Downstate snobs dine in upstate Italian eatery: Recipe for Disaster. We couldn't have been more wrong. Decor feels like a Soho hot spot! Sesame Tuna Volcano was phenomenal. Veal Chop was fantastic. Veal Sorrentino was the best I ever had. New Waiter was personable and attentive. Not inexpensive but definitely worth it we will be back next year. We took a trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and decided to try this place for lunch based on the other reviews of my fellow Yelpers. This place was so wonderful that we came back for dinner! The staff were sooo friendly, efficient and quick. Portions were very generous. For lunch, I had the grilled chicken sandwich w/a side of tarragon sauce. That sauce was so good. The chicken was moist and seasoned well. The chicken marsala I had for dinner was perfectly done. It is my favorite chicken dish. I was sad that I couldn't bring my leftovers back to my hotel (there was no fridge) to finish later. The calamari was quickly gobbled up. My husband loved the pomodaro (sp?) sauce so much that he asked for extra bread to sopp it up with. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area. read more

I have been a regular visitor to Cooperstown every Memorial Day weekend for at least 30 years. We got to town late in the evening and the kitchen was closed at the restaurant we intended to go to. By chance we found Toscana and while close to closing time they would keep the kitchen open a little longer to accommodate us. Well this was like hitting the lottery. The food was excellent, the service wonderful and a really nice atmosphere. One of our party had the salmon, another the duck and I had the shrimp and scallops and every one of us LOVED the food. It was so good that we went back 2 days later and it was again wonderful. We recommended it to other friends who went the following night and they LOVED it. Toscana will now be one of our annual go to restaurants in Cooperstown. read more

Great place to go for dinner!!!!! My husband and I went here for our one year Anniversary dinner. We came to Cooperstown for our trip and we saw this place on Yelp. So we decided to give it a try. On special, my husband go the duck. He let me try a bite and OMG delicious! I got this seafood crepe with eggplant. It was to die for! It was just so packed with flavor, and you didn't even need a knife to cut it. The waitress we had was so nice. She even brought up a piece of cake for our anniversary. That was so nice of them. Wow! This place was amazing! They brought out warm bread with olive oil for us to snack on while we looked over the menu. It was so good my husband and I ate 2 loaves! He ate the fagioli soup and he said it was to die for. I had the Tuscan salad and it was delicious. It come with a side of their house made roasted red pepper Italian dressing. I could drink it out of the ramekin! For our dinner, I ordered the bolognese. It was melt in your mouth delicious. My husband had the Toscana pasta. It came with a meatball and sausage link. We smelled the meatball when the plate was put on the table! Best meatball and sausage we have had!!! Huge portions, wonderful staff, and delicious food. Can't ask for more than that. read more

When our group chose this restaurant for dinner I wasn't terribly hungry, so I ordered the Greek salad and added chicken. It was AMAZING. The feta was tasty, the chicken was moist, and the roasted red peppers were a great touch. The service was good, until we asked our server to split our check among each couple. She had a terrible attitude with our table following the request. Overall, it was a great experience and cozy atmosphere for dinner. Next time I will have to try a pasta dish! read more

Where do I begin!? I love this restaurant. My husband and I both loved it. It's quite small, but somehow you don't feel crowded. It's such a warm atmosphere. The owner greeted us with such a warm, genuine greeting. We felt like we were guests; not just customers. Now. The food: The eggplant Parmesan. *sigh* Perfect. It's the best I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned, fresh. Simple clean food. My husband had the chicken Parmesan. He said, "Ditto" about his food! The service was excellent and fast. Noticed that they had cannolis for dessert and my husband loves them, so we got one to go and also flourless chocolate espresso cake. Did I mention that I don't like cannolis? No, I REALLY don't like them. I took a small bite of the filling. Oh.My.Gosh. So ridiculously good!?! My cake was good (even though I didn't taste any coffee). We went on Valentine's night, the food was delicious! However, they were out of several items that I would have considered staples that should always be in stock. They were out of caesar salad. My boyfriend ordered steak and there was supposed to be side of mashed potatoes with it. The waitress came back after we ordered and told us they were out of mashed potatoes so he ordered a side of pasta with alfredo sauce. She came back later and said they were out of parmesan so they couldn't make alfredo sauce. Caesar salad, potatoes and parmesan would be items I'd think should be kept in stock! Fantastic food, atmosphere and service! I've been to so many Italian restaurants that can't accommodate my gluten restriction. I was thrilled to find out they have gluten free pasta and made my dish to order with rice flour. It took a little longer but well worth the wait! Fabulous meal. on par (or better!) with the best Italian restaurants I have experienced in NYC, Boston and Chicago. Chicken Parmesan was to die for. The sauces (plural, red sauce on the Chicken and a Vodka sauce on the pasta) were both exquisite. The restaurant handled the social distancing perfectly. My heart goes out to these small businesses trying to survive at less than 50% occupancy. This restaurant probably only has a dozen tables at full occupancy. We were excited to get a table. Wonderful location . Very loud. Drinks arrived and then life came to a stop. We ordered mozzarella capresse (Sp) to share. After 30 minutes tracked down waiter to realize none if our food had been ordered. My husband tracked down the owner. He apologized and brought out a totally different appetizer explaining the salad was not available. The wine flowed. However we entered "no talk zone" . My husband ordered tuna, I ordered veal chop. I dined with my wife after visiting the Fenimore Art Museum and the Farmers Museum. We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. I had a starter Ceasar salad which was great. A generous portion that wasn't over dressed with just the right amount of perfectly shaved licks of parmigiano reggiano. I had eggplant parm that was heavenly. Fresh, thinly sliced eggplant, perfectly cooked with a chunky tomato sauce over layers of ricotta and mozzarella. This was served with a perfectly aldente penne pasta. Just great. A real treasure. read more

This is one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at. Being a big of a snob I was surprised to find such a wonderful place in a college town. The sauces are out of this world. The pomodoro sauce has a wonderful acidity and the vodka sauce is unbelievably creamy. I am so happy this place has so far survived COVID. read more

Made reservations for 2 about 2 hours ahead of time and they seated us right on time upon arrival.. took my 9 year old son here while visiting the HOF museum this past weekend and we both LOVED the food!! We split a Cesar salad, I ordered the Chicken Parm and pasta w/ side of sausage (easily one of the top 3 I have ever had, delicious tender) while my son ordered Spaghetti w/ meat sauce and meatballs mmmmmmmmm.
