We visited this food truck twice in the last few weeks. First we went to the Anoka Food truck festival and tried the loaded tots. The actual tots were very crispy. The toppings don't stay on very well but the lettuce was crispy and the sour cream was cool. The second time we visited them was at the state fair. We got the dill tots. The service was good at both locations. We liked the options of two sides to order at the state fair. It really helped the line length. The pick up window was at the end and we didn't have to wait long either time. The great thing about the truck is you know what they are selling just by looking at the truck. read more

Tot Boss Truck was at the Food Truck Fair last week. I love tater tots!! I lived off tater tots in my undergrad years in California. I came here with babe this past Sunday to check out the food trucks that they have in Minnesota. There was quite a bit of variety at this state fair. There was all types of food..falafel, donuts, burgers, wings, pulled pork, smoothies, tater tots, beer...you name it! The Tot Boss Truck, however was the busiest of them all. The service was fast, yet lines were still long. We waited in line for 20+ minutes for our tots. There was many options such as chili tots, which is what we got, poutine tots, bacon wrapped tots, and more. We decided to go with the chili tots without the sour cream. It wasn't that great. Tots were good, but the chili is meh, but I'm not a big fan of chili to begin with. I'd go back to this place, but not chili tots. I'll try bacon wrapped tots or poutine next time. read more

On 8.9.2017, the Tot Boss Truck was part of the Food Trucks for Charity event at The Depot with all tips benefiting the Ronald McDonald Charities. My colleagues and I ventured over here in the rain for a good cause. Three of us has the beef burrito basket which came with a loaded burrito AND a little basket of tots on the side, all for $6! Added a nacho cheese dipping sauce for $0.50. I wished I'd tried the jalapeño ranch instead, the nacho cheese was kind of runny. Other than that, the burrito was tasty and the tots nice and crispy. Visited the Minneapolis Food Truck Fair yesterday and this truck had, by far, the longest line.. I had to give it a try! After waiting 20 minutes, building major anticipation and excitement, we made it to the front where I ordered the Chili Tots for $6. They surprisingly finished our order within minutes and I was off on my way. The tots were fresh, crunchy, and delicious. The chili was okay. Was it any different from tots that I could buy elsewhere? I didn't think so. Plus, the portion was extremely small for $6! I walked around a bit but noted to myself to come back. After all, going by my parents' rule, I should always eat at places with a lot of people. We got some food and started to wait. The line was really long, stretching the length of about 3-4 trucks. It wasn't moving very quickly either. After about 40 minutes under the beating sun, we made it to the front. Though they had a bunch of gourmet styles, I ordered a plain tots (24 count) to share with my friends. The price was about $4.50, which is all right given the demand, but really, tots are pretty much french fries. After two minutes, our tots came out piping hot and fresh. Less than spectacular tots -- in fact pretty much ordinary and overly priced. I had the bacon-wrapped tots and the bacon was certainly not fresh and was pretty skimpy and really didn't contribute any bacon flavor to the tots save for the idea of tots wrapped in bacon. It'd be awesome to see what they could do if they stepped up their game and did more than re-heat pre-prepared tots -- like use fresh ingredients, interesting sauces, and more generous portions. I've been craving tater tots for some time now and was so excited this food truck was at the Anoka food truck festival. There was a huge line because of course everyone loves them some tots so I was happy I would get hot tater tots. Hot tater tots is sure what I got. They basically threw the hot tater tots in my hands then handed me the cheese sauce which I burnt my hand very badly on, and then also my water all at the same time shewing me out of the way. I am so glad they were hot, however the carelessness of the person placing the cheese sauce in the container (spilling it down the side) cause a very bad burn on three of my fingers not allowing me to enjoy my tots as much as I would have liked. Also if I have to pay 50 cents for sauce I would like a full container of it. It was barely half full. Overall the tots were hot and good but having burnt my hand when it shouldn't have happened lost them a star. I guess moral of the story Is be careful if you get a side of nacho sauce it may be running down the side and may burn you. read more

Today the Tot Boss and his truck were at my work to shell out their tot goodness. I was very pleased with what I got in exchange for what I paid. The Tot Nachos were very straight forward and good. I mean cover a tot with cheese and how can it NOT be good? The people who ran the truck were very nice and down to Earth. That's important because sometimes food truck peeps can be grumpy. First off, it's a food truck...not some gourmet restaurant, I can count on one hand how many places I know that make their own tator tots..and they suck! Tot boss made perfect golden tots and then topped them generously with toppings. Second...again, this is a food truck, when have you found a super cheap amazing food truck? When you find it, call me. You get what you pay for. $6 for a heaping container of tots and toppings, have you been to the state fair? A single lemonade is $5-8 there! The truck was super clean, staff was extremely friendly..sodas for $1! I would take some of these reviews with a grain of salt. I had the loaded tots at the Music in the Mears event. It was really really good! The tots are fresh and crispy, there are a LOT of tots (I'm not sure what everyone else is saying when they say the quantity is small....!), and the prices are affordable especially compared to other food trucks. One order was enough for a meal for me. This is such a unique concept and I hope to see this truck around more often! Hope they come up with some more flavors. read more

We had the Tot Boss food truck for a graduation party and it was fabulous! The food was spectacular! Everything was hot, fresh, plentiful and extremely tasty. The staff were absolutely wonderful and super easy to work with. Many of our guests tried multiple menu items and everyone was delighted with their choices. The loaded tots and nacho tots were definitely the highlight in the tot part of the menu. The chicken strips were really, really good as well. I would highly recommend having Tot Boss at your next event. Or if you see them somewhere, give their tots a try, you won't be sorry! read more

Usually when you go to places like this the food never measures up to what you pay for it. However at Tot Boss, the prices are really reasonable and portions are really hearty. The tots are perfectly cooked and the food is really really good. And the Poutine tots are exactly what I've expected Poutine to be, they actually melt the cheese curds! I always want people to melt the cheese curds but no one ever does! The nacho tots are really really delicious perfect for those times you're craving something but don't know what. Tried the Tot Boss when I got hungry at Northern Spark this year. There's a few things about this truck that make me dislike my experience. A. I was in line for 20 minutes then waited for another 10 for my food and there were only maybe 7 people in front of me. It's just tots and toppings. I can deal with that wait at other trucks because they have things to cook other than shoving stuff in a fryer. B. the portion size vs. cost. These aren't homemade tots. They come out of a bag into a fryer. A basket of tots anywhere for $4 is massive and can be shared with 6 other people. Do I myself need this much? No but for $6 my portion size felt like a huge rip off. For $1 more I can get a bathtub worth of homemade mac and cheese from the 1029 club. The price vs. portion was just ridiculous. C. The poutine was light on the gravy so by the bottom of my dish the tots were plain and dry and the cheese curds weren't breaded and didn't get melty and gooey. I really wanted to like this place since I love tots and I hate giving low ratings (a Minnesota nice thing I guess) but I enjoyed nothing about my experience. read more

Worst food experience of my life. My friend and me tried Tot Boss at the St Paul Summer Beer Fest yesterday. We both ordered the tot burritos, his without sour cream. They come wrapped in aluminum foil. Inside of the foil my friend found a fake nail from the female chef. Are you kidding me?! A truck that specializes in tots yet gets them from a bag? There is absolutely nothing unique, creative or good about Tot Boss. The concept could work if everything was made from scratch and not just the same thing any slob bachelor could do with a Frydaddy and can of Nalleys chili. This is probably my most favorite food truck. I've had just about everything on the menu and they haven't gone wrong with any of them. Depending on the event, lines can get long, but it goes by quick. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. My favorites are the burrito and pizza tots. read more
