DO NOT HIRE! Hiring this contractor was such an expensive and exhausting mistake that I am considering taking legal action at this point. At first everything went well. They responded quickly to my inquiry, seemed knowledgeable about the repairs and work I needed, and started the job quickly. Then everything went downhill. 1) I was initially quoted $1500 for a fence install. I gave a $500 down payment. After the fence was halfway done I was told they needed an additional $1,000 and they would not continue work until I paid that amount in full. 2) They did not ask for a survey of the property and installed the fence about a foot into my neighbor's yard without asking me. My neighbor is now asking me to move my fence or get an easement. This is even more money I am shelling out on top of the $2500 I was initially scammed out of. 3) It took over three weeks to install a fence that (according to contractors I've spoken to since then) should have taken 2 days. They disappeared before installing the gates to finish the job and left a bunch of tools behind. I had to call 4 times before someone would come to put the gates on. 4) They did not bother to dig out the posts of the chain link fence that was previously there. They merely cut off the poles so I now have jagged chunks of metal poles sticking out of the ground. They also inexplicably left a small section of chain link fence on the side of my neighbor's property that I must also pay to remove. 5) With the initial $1500 quote they agreed to do additional small repairs in my home such as fix a latch on our screen door and install shelves in a room. They disappeared before ever even starting on those projects. Working with this company was a nightmare and I strongly recommend steering clear of them even if you are desperate for repairs or to get handy work done. I just got information that this company changed their name again due to more lawsuits. I am one of those lawsuits because they owe me $12,000 for damages to my home when they were attempting to refinish hardwood floors. This is the 4th company name change in approximately 10-15 years (Pittsburgh Flooring, Perfect Flooring, another name, and now Total Handy Services. They have over a dozen outstanding lawsuits (some in pics below). Watch out for these people; Chico, Shai, and Eli but they like to change their names also (as you will see below). I've had Total Handy Services complete a couple jobs in the past month and they've done a great job! Eli responded the immediately and sent Matt out the same day to get the first job done. Since they did a great job replacing the shutters (for a fair price), I asked them to come back to scrape and paint the lentils around my windows and redo the caulking. Also asked them to re-point the mortar on my front porch. Eli provided a fair quote once again and Matt completed the job in less than two days. Matt did a great job - he was very meticulous and detailed in making sure that he did the job correctly, not just quickly. I live in VA and the Property is in PA. Found out after the work was completed that the minimum price per visit was $150. I called to see if they could install a simple porch light and he said that he couldn't do it that day and to call back in the morning since they could not schedule a visit. I texted him the information and a picture and he did not respond. I got a call around 11:30 the next morning telling me that his technician will be at the house in 10 minutes. No idea if anyone was going to be home or how much anything was going to cost. Did not get an estimate or a status, just a call the next day to pay $150 for less than an hour of work! OVERPRICED! DO NOT HIRE!! YOU WILL LOSE MONEY! This has been a mind-blowing experience. I hired them to fix a leak in my toilet. They came 2 hours late. I though ok, understandable since is the contracting world. The older middle eastern man (which i think owns the business) told me my leak was fixed. Well, it most certainly was not fixed. it was leaking just the same as it was before. I called back to notify them. He said he was very surprised but would send someone out to fix it. We arranged a day. That day came and they never showed up. I called he apologized repeatedly and promised to send someone out. This same process repeated its self THREE times. The last straw was when he said he would come himself after we got home from work the next night. He was supposed to show up at 5pm. 6pm rolls around and I text message him, no response. My husband then calls from another number and he answers (go figure). He said he is waiting a on machine to start our job. Whatttt??? a machine to fix a toilet?? He then sends me a picture of this giant green machine. I don't know who he had me confused with or what but I messaged him back to let him know he probably is mistaken. I received no response to that message. By this point I was too frustrated to allow them to stand me up for a FIFTH time. The next day I called and requested my money back since I wasted A LOT of time and still had a leaking toilet. He claimed that he fixed the initial leak and that this is different leak, ultimately refusing to refund my $175. Now I am some money and still have a leaking toilet. Called to get a quote for installing a counter for our home in Pittsburgh. They said $175 for the first hour and $50 each additional hour. Said it should take 3 hours. They arrived as two people and after doing the job, wanted $225 for the first hour and $75 thereafter. They knew the scope of the job prior and didn't bring saws or tools to do it with. I contracted Eli for a pergola and a walkway down to my stairs. He requested more than 1/2 the cost up front, then a week later requested another big chunk of cash. He and his helper only showed up for a few whole days, then one or both would come for 1 to 2 hours a day and then go off to work on other jobs. Say if they couldn't complete the stairs because the cement had to dry, fine, stay and work on the pathway...but, no, they went off to another job instead.They never got the pergola completed with cross-beams as requested (although Eli says I approved a picture without cross beams). All this took more than 2 weeks of non-rain weather. Eli would constantly make excuses, or deflect my questions or concerns and talk about how much the wood cost. I finally had to call the person who recommended them who came with Eli to make sure the work was done. The path was a joke and a most sloppy job.. On 10/7/20 Eli came to give an estimate. We accepted his estimate that day and he said they would be in touch to schedule. We decided against a part of our project and called to inform them of the change. The secretary told us no problem and got us the estimate without said project. Would be in touch to schedule. I can understand they may be busy, but what Company won't schedule you out a month or so just so you have a date scheduled. As time goes on, more phone calls from myself and my fiancé to the Company about scheduling happen. Again, we had to continue to call them to try and get scheduled. Every phone call was well we are really busy and the secretary telling us about her pregnancy and upcoming child birth. Finally we call on 10/30/20 after hours and Mike answers. He says Wednesday. Now mind you I've been telling them I needed to be able to take time from work to be there so I need advanced notice. So Wednesday works, right. Here it is Wednesday and no one shows up. Finally at 11:00 a.m. we call and get Mike. His reasoning they aren't here.... his secretary is out because she had her baby. We spoke to you Friday and you said Wednesday. What does that have to do with your secretary? Now mind you, my sister-in-law who owns a business uses these guys, so that's why we thought hey they do work for her and she's happy with it. UNRELIABLE AND POOR COMMUNICATION. I called to get someone to take out a shelf over a fridge so that a taller fridge could be installed. I explained it had to happen the next day so that it would be done before the installation. I was given a timeframe of 9-11 am. At 11:30 I started calling to inquire and was told repeatedly that someone would get back to me. At 1:30 I explained that I had a doctor's appointment and had to be away until 2:30 or 3 and that I needed some assurance or else I'd have to start calling people in desperation to try to get someone to do this work today. Wish I could give zero stars. Arranged for them to help us assemble an apartment full of furniture. Never showed up. Never got a phone call. When I finally got through to them I was told they'd be calling soon, that they should be there in 15-20 minutes. Never heard from anyone, and no one answered when I repeatedly tried to call them, as if they were avoiding answering when they saw my number. (I spoke to them a total of 2 times -- when I hired them, and once that morning.) If they had let me know that they can't make it, or that they were going to be late, I wouldn't even bother leaving a Yelp review. I have spent over $2000.00 in order to have a downspout that works. It doesn't. Total Handy Services installed a downspout and cleaned the gutters in November, and when the downspout still didn't work they told me I needed gutter guard installed. I paid them to do it. Let me tell you impressionable. Moved my daughter for law school and we were on a very tight schedule and budget. I myself have 3 assisted livings in FL so I know the demands on timeline and expectations. Did my due diligence with calls and research. Negative reviews ....whatever ...happens often in business. Never judge!!. I made a phone call it was answered right away by Isaac. He could understand EXACTLYwhat I needed, quoted me realistically, could deal with my "lets get it done approach". I am direct and to the point. Bottom line he took care of it ALL. What a peace of mind after driving 17 hours with a truck, car hitch etc. The coordination/orchestration was a chore. I can not praise him and the guy he sent us Matt enough. Peace of mind, worked diligently (hustled) and did an EXCELLENT job. I will use them any day any time. Do not waste your time! I called about two weeks ago to make an appointment for them to come yesterday. When making the appointment, I gave Isaac the full details - my address, phone number, and a list of services that I wanted done. Isaac told me to expect them between 9-10am on the Saturday I requested. Fast forward to yesterday, no one showed up. No call, no contact at all. I call them at 11am and talked to Ferris. He tells me that Isaac will call me back in a few minutes. But no call ever came from Isaac. I call back at 11:45 and Ferris tells me that he's sorry, but they were busy with a job that was taking them longer than expected. He then asks for all of my information again (I'm assuming because they never captured it in the first place) and tells me that someone will come today (Sunday) and that they can arrive by 9am. Ok, I'm mad because of everything, but I still need the work done, so I agree. Ferris even calls back to confirm. And guess what happened? NO ONE SHOWED UP TODAY! No call, no nothing. These guys are pathetic. If they can't handle the work, just tell the customer. I'll find someone else. And it looks like I'm not the only one. I have to say, I was surprised when I saw some of the other reviewers, as I am posting this after having work done.. If I would've seen the other posts I probably wouldn't have called... Anyway, we recently moved to a new home, and had some things that we needed done. My husband isn't the most handy, and I saw their truck at a gas station, with the slogan "we fix what your husband broke" or something to that effect! Was floored, and called them. They came the next day, and I showed what I needed done, including caulking the shower and tub, replacing a dripping faucet, and fixing a gutter that poured like crazy when it rained. They quoted me a flat rate, came the next day and finished everything but the gutter, and than came back that weekend to finish the job. They were easy to work with, got the job done, and overall we were happy. I would say a solid four stars, but the extra star is because i think these guys deserve a bump from some of the other reviews that were so different than our experience. read more

I had an initial meeting that seemed great and I was prepared to hire him. They seems professional, friendly and the price was reasonable. Unfortunately, everything fell apart after that. I asked a few questions and for a written quote for about $1500 of work. They did not respond to my emails or calls for two weeks and when I finally reached them they wanted to look at the job again. The office manager told me no one needed to be at the house for the visit (external repair job only). They didn't even call me after they said they would visit the house. When I finally got ahold of them on the phone they had the nerve to accuse me of wasting their time by not being there for an "appointment" that we did not ever make in the first place. I recently called Total Handy Services to fix several small problems at my home. I usually not write such reviews but in their case I was so delighted with their professionalism, promptness and efficiency that I decided to do so. Every issue that I brought up was handled without any hesitancy. They had all parts necessary and the ones that were missing, an employee was sent to purchase. They made sure to keep whatever area they were working on clean and neat. Their prices are fair and reasonable and I would recommend them for all your house repairs (big and small). I felt that they were honest with their assessment and recommendation so that I would spend the lease amount of money to resolve the problem to my satisfaction.
