My first visit at Total Wine was a delight. I was desperately looking for Sauternes for our traditional Christmas dinner. I found it at Total Wine. It is good bottle and very affordable. I heard two employees advising customers about French spirits (Calvados, Armagnac and Cognac). I was surprised by the extent of their knowledge and expertise. Really cool place! There is so much to see you probably won't even get to see everything in one visit! Rows and rows of different varieties of wine and beer. The wine sections are great and really detailed. There are so many categories, you can go by different types of wine, to what country they're from, certain cities, different favorites, sizes, green options, so many specialties!, the list goes on. It's kind of overwhelming actually so someone with a good amount of knowledge on wine would appreciate this place. The craft beer section was actually my favorite, they have so many different kinds, local and international. A lot of the single bottle local craft beer can be as cheap as a dollar! So that was a big plus for me. The staff is really nice and knowledgeable as well. The alcohol "chiller," a vat full of freezing water that you can stick your purchases in for immediate chilling, was cool but the water looked pretty gross and murky. If you just want to get your stuff cold to go in about 7 minutes and don't mind the water, this option is really convenient! You can also get a membership to get some discounts. They have a very great selection and when I needed help for a recommendation for a wine I want to try, they asked what flavors I like and all that stuff and they picked out a wine that I absolutely enjoy and will continue to buy it because it is so good! I like to support the small, mom and pop wine shops, especially for the personal service, but Total Wine in Long Beach is a big store with a small store heart. They have a wonderful selection of wines and very reasonable prices. And the staff are uniformly informed, helpful, and patient, especially Patrick, who possesses an astonishing knowledge of wine, and the sweet Courtney who could sell ice to Eskimos without the slightest hint of pressure. read more

So this is a simple review because customer service here is on point. If I ever need help it's always available but this is a dude store so guys never really need help that they will admit to. So it's a very quiet store with no lines because once you have alcohol in your arms you just want to drink it. The store is well stocked and the isles are always clean so it's always a pleasant visit. The deals here are okay but if you like trying new beers they have a few isles of single bottle options which are really cool. staff is unfriendly & look at you like you're crazy when you ask for help when looking for something. god forbid you go to work and actually have to do your job. my issue with an experience i had a few minutes ago is that i was refused the service of buying something simply because my niece didn't have her ID due to being underage which i found ridiculous because i saw people with their children in the store as i was shopping. their website also says people 21 & under aren't allowed in the store UNLESS they're accompanied by an adult guardian of legal drinking age which she obviously was. it's not like she was the one trying to make the purchase anyway & i wasn't about to leave her in the nearly empty parking lot in the car by herself either. I've been to several other locations & never had this issue. if it's truly a problem then i suggest fixing what you have on your website & giving your staff a reality check on their behavior before someone else does it for you. read more

This was probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We went to buy alcohol for a birthday party next week. We ran into some friends and talked while we selected our bottles. When we got to the register the cashier asked for all our IDs, including our friends that were buying their stuff separately. One of our friends didn't have their ID on them, she is 22, because of that the cashier told us she couldn't sell any one of us alcohol. The manager came and we explained that we came in separate cars and just ran into each other and wanted to buy our alcohol since everyone in our party had ID but he said belittlingly "we can't sell alcohol to anyone tonight until she brings your ID". We told him the last time we came they didn't ask everyone in our party for ID. He laughed and said "give me their name, I'll fire that employee". He was the one who sold to us last time! Came to this establishment to buy a bottle for a friend's birthday. I was unaware of the ID policy for groups, but that was not an issue with me. My experience here was very unpleasant due to the lack of professionalism of the older man that works here and the female manager. First of all the older man was very obviously following our group which felt uncomfortable to say the least. Two of the ladies in our group went ahead to make a purchase and were stopped from completing the transaction because myself and another member of our group needed to be carded. The ID policy was not the issue, the issue was that the older man decided to make a huge scene about checking IDs. The older Male employee exclaimed, "Those girls came in with two other little girls!" After having my ID checked and the ladies in our group were able to make their purchase, our group met up in an aisle of the store and lo and behold the older Male employee continued to follow us! We were about to leave upset that a scene was made when a friend stated aloud that she was made uncomfortable about how the older Male employee was following us. Which all of our group agreed that it was a really unpleasant experience due this older Male employee, then suddenly the older Male employee interjected himself into our conversation stating he was not following us. Then the manager had to be called over because the older Male employee and a member of our group were going back and forth exchanging words. The female manager kept stating that she was watching on the cameras and the older employee was not following us. This was upsetting because he WAS following us. The manger then asked us to leave and escorted us to the front of the store. This was overall very unpleasant. Please train your staff! Huuuuge. Didn't even get half way round the store before I realized I had spent my pocket money for the month. Amazing selection - the Scotch aisle is world class - too many wines to count. It's super nice when they use the wine spectator rankings so it gives me some basis to buy. 10 cent wine and beer tastings and really helpful staff - can't go wrong. Yeah. As a beginning beer drinker, I decided to go today on September 4, 2015, 3 days after my 27th birthday. I was absolutely amazed at their selection! I haven't really started on wine, but I think they have a great wine selection as well (hence their name.) But the beer selection blew me away! They have import beer not found in most stores, like Quilmes (Argentina), Cristal, Cusquena (Peru), Carlsberg (Denmark), Baltika (Russia), Tiger (Singapore), Saigon Beer (Vietnam) and others. They even have many regional US brands, like Genesee Cream Ale. Their craft beer selection is amazing! I will definitely try some next time. On my first visit, I bought a Genesee, a Guinness, a Carlsberg, a Kronenbourg 1664. a Bass ale, and a Heineken. It came out to $17, but it was worth it! We had Grace help us, and from the get go she asked us if we were ready to purchase. As I replied no she rolled her eyes and her attitude changed. She insisted on us making an appointment to try drinks. Luckily Tiy came to help us after and her service was outstanding. She answered all of my questions and worries I had about the bottles I wanted. She popped open a bottle for me to try and because of this I decided to buy 4 cases today. This place is amazing! It has everything you could possibly need when it involves drinking. EVERYTHING. Craft beer, crap beer, wine, champagne, bitters, cherries...Single bottle Hennessey price was like 27 effen dollars. Thats the cheapest I have ever seen. On my last trip I got a bottle tempelton rye whiskey, some cranberry bitters and a muddler. Enjoyed some delicious old fashioneds at home. VERY disappointed in my visit on 06/01/2017. Always gone to Total Wine for alcoholic beverages and this day was no different; except the HORRIBLE customer service I received. I was getting my wallet from the car because I forgot it in there. My girlfriend and friend were waiting in front of the store for me. I was literally 10 feet away and saw one of the employees (possibly manager?) come out in front of the store and was like "I can't have you in front of the store... oh wait, you're coming in. Do you all have IDs?" Of course, we all did and we were all aware of their policy and stated "Yes, we all do. Do you need to check them?" Then, he continued, "Wouldn't want to NOT sell you items if you're not of age or all of you do not have your identification cards." Again, we said we did and preceded inside since he agreed that we all had our identification cards and able to show him. Then, the three of us are inside as usual and we noticed another employee was following us around the store for about 5-6 aisles. The employee did not say a word, but just carefully watched us as if we were going to steal something. I have never felt like I was profiled until this encounter. I left the store and did not buy anything because we were all at this point feeling uncomfortable and judged. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. Disgusted by this place. I am 22 and did not bring my ID in with me because I was just helping my boyfriend find a beer he enjoyed. I go with him to check out and the cashier (don't know his name but he was oriental) asked for ID from my boyfriend then me. I told him I am not making the purchase and I don't have my ID, he rolls his eyes and calls for an ID check on his little microphone for his manager to come I guess so I was like oh it's no problem I'll just wait outside and this fool was like no you need to stay in here and talk to my manager. I walk outside anyways and wait for my boyfriend to make the purchase but the manager told him that he needs to come back tomorrow alone to make the purchase. What?? That's ridiculous. This place is not close by us so that's what made me even more upset. Right when we walked in we were insulted! The place is not welcoming at all. The man behind the customer service counter with CURLY BEARD questioned our ages. We were willing to show him our IDs, but instead of asking for them, he made another snarky remark about our ages. He RUDLEY assumed we were under age and said, "I don't want to have to refuse your sale." We were immediately thrown off by how rude he was. We then found the item we came for but we decided not to purchase anything do to the incredibly rude service. We will not support a company that is rude and unwelcoming to young women. Also when we tried to leave we couldn't get out. There was only one way out, the one small service lane open. We had to wait for customers to finish there sales in order for us just to leave. Not only is this extremely inconvenient, it's a fire code violation. We shouldn't have felt trapped in a store we didn't want to be in. This should be reported!! GO TO BEVMO!! My wife and I were having a Christmas party and we went to total wine to stock up. Greg, one of the managers there was very helpful and took the time to take us down each aisle, and help us select the favorites and not just the highest priced. So I placed and app order for delivery of wine and beer at 1pm with a requested delivery window of 3-5pm. Well, by 5:10 no delivery so I call this store. Nice girl who answers the phone, looks up my order, say " oh gosh I'm so sorry it looks like we missed this because it hasn't even been processed, let me have you take to the manager." On hold for 5 minutes and manager Grace picks up, tells me they JUST got the order and they are finishing it up to leave soon. I asked how that was possible when I ordered it 4 hours prior. Her excuse, " well there is a delay from when you place the order to when we receive the order ". Really Grace? A 4hour delay, I told her that's not possible since my previous other orders arrived on time. Her response was " well I can cancel the order if you want". Yep. That was her response. So yes Grace, cancel my order!! No I'm so sorry I'll have it rushed right over, no I'll waive the delivery charge, no customer service at all, just I can cancel the order for you. Amazing! I decided to give this store a shot because it was opened late. I usually shop at BevMo. Now I know the reason I usually shop at BevMo. I walked in and asked Scott who was at the register for help. He seemed grumpy. Maybe because he had to close. I was instructed to stand by the custom service desk for help. Scott proceeded to finish his conversation with another coworker. I waited while I watched two clerks stocking a shelf. About 5 minutes later one of them walked over to me to assist. She was pleasant enough, found what I needed and directed me to the isle where it was at. I then proceeded to look for a old vine Zinfandel. I got some help from a very pleasant clerk. She pointed out that one of their wines had "96 points", which is a good rating. I decided to look around and when I looked at the 96 points Zin I noticed that the entire shelf was stocked with the wrong vintage. Bait and switch? Hopefully not. I selected another vintage and proceeded to check out. There was Scott. In all his grumpiness. When I mentioned that one of the shelves, with a high rating tag, was stocked with the wrong vintage, he didn't even blink. He made no attempt to offer any help to find the vintage Total Wine & More was promoting. He rang me up, bagged my order, and said good night. Back to BevMo I go! read more
