Since I happened to be right next door to Bass Pro Shop, I took a gander and found a 6 pack of Stella Artois Alcohol Free Beer. If you buy the 12 pack cans, it costs less, but I wanted the bottles. Although there were other brands of alcohol free beer, I stuck with the tried and true. After checking out, I received a 15% off non-alcoholic wine, beer or spirits coupon. When I entered the store, the personnel quickly asked if they could offer any help, but I wanted to browse and see what TWM had and find my way around. Attended a wine tasting class here with friends and it was such a stellar experience! We got to taste 9 (!) wines from Spain and Portugal, and the hosts did a fantastic job of setting up the space and providing snacks and water. **Huge shout out to Oron** who is clearly so passionate about wine, makes learning about wine fun and non-pretentious, and is so funny and engaging! This Total Wine location was pretty great. The staff are always so helpful in helping you find things. The cashiers are also really friendly and let you know if there's any good coupons online. I usually like to take advantage of their mix 6 so that I can have a variety of drinks. They really have a great and pretty wide selection of alcohol. One really cool feature is if you look up an item on the website, it'll tell you exactly the isle down to the shelf of where it's at. I've been to this store a handful of times, and usually have a good experience. The parking lot is super busy, but if you drive towards bass pro shop- there is a ton of parking. They have a good selection of wine, beer, liquor, and gifting items like glasses. Their employees are pretty helpful and knowledgable. I never felt compelled to write a review since my experiences were forgetful, until yesterday. I never even stepped foot in the store yesterday, but had a fantastic experience. We were really surprised at the range of non alcoholic wine, beer, and spirits they carry. The place was very clean, and well laid out. We found someone right off the bat who knew where everything was and was happy to help us, and the person who rang us out was happy and very pleasant. They were really well staffed, too. I felt like we saw an employee or two in every aisle. We got some non alcoholic wine, some craft non alcoholic beer and some non alcoholic Moscow mules! With a heavy heart, I am very sad to say that this Total Wine location ruined my wedding. In September, my now-husband and I went to the store for a wedding consultation, and the experience was amazing. Our sommelier walked us through different types of wine and helped us select the perfect wines for our wedding in October. My husband is already a member of Total Wine and we got a nice discount from ordering at this location. Things went down at the pickup. There were a few things we ordered: Caliveda Chardonnay, Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon, La Vostra Prosecco, Aperix Peritvio, and Blue Moon Belgian White. We ordered 18 bottles of Caliveda Chardonnay and 18 bottles of Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon. Upon the day of pick up, the staff couldn't find the order. After a long-frustrated 20 minutes, we found out it was based on the day we ordered, not the pickup date. The staff gave us a new case of Caliveda and a new case of Courtney Benham, there were supposed to be 6 bottles of Caliveda Chardonnay and 6 bottles of Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon, however, we only got 5 bottles of red and a few were not Courtney Benham brand. My husband caught that and the staff replaced those other brands of wine bottles with Courtney Benham Cabernet Sauvignon. Surprisingly on the day of the wedding, the guests were surprised that 18 bottles of Caliveda Chardonnay were gone in 30 minutes. We had a small wedding of a total of 45 people, not everyone drank wine, and it was impossible for 18 bottles of Caliveda Chardonnay gone in 30 minutes. The thing is that my husband and I didn't know about the wine issue until the wedding was over. We tried to count the leftover wines and couldn't find any leftover Caliveda Chardonnay. It took me a while (read: multiple phone calls and texts to vendors and friends, and of course, a huge load of frustration) and finally found out that Total Wine gave us the wrong wine--the whole new case of Caliveda was Pinot Noir, not Chardonnay. The case has the brand printed on the box, with a small sticker on the side labeled "pinot noir". Well, the mystery was solved and I was so shocked that Total Wine messed this up. Honestly, on the day of the order, the cases should already be set aside and ready to pick up--at least that was what we were told--everything would be ready. So, how could the staff (1) not find our order, (2) mess up the total count of wine bottles we ordered, and (3) mess up the wine we ordered? Total Wine staff, you have one job and you ruined my wedding. Yes, I am a very unhappy graduated bride and I am still very upset after a month of my wedding day. Thanks to California law, now we have 12 bottles of Caliveda Pinot Noir that we didn't even intend to order. Guests were so confused as to why the Chardonnay was not offered as listed on the drink menu. I strongly suggest anyone who would consider ordering bulk wine from Total Wine, DON'T DO IT. They ruined my wedding and they could possibly ruin your important events. I won't be able to re-do my wedding so why let Total Wine have the chance to ruin yours? Just don't. read more

This place is a joke. I went in to buy 10 bottles of Hennessy (not exactly a crazy amount) and the key holder gave me attitude right off the bat. He said if I wanted to make a "big order" like that, I should've done it online for pickup, even though they had all ten bottles in stock. Then he told me he could only sell me two because "other people might want some." Really? Since when is buying 10 bottles a problem? I even emailed the store afterward to let them know how frustrating the experience was, and I've heard nothing back. Save yourself the trouble and just go to Costco or BevMo instead. read more

While I appreciate some small local liquor stores for their variety and the personal service you get, I have to admit that Total Wine & More does a really good job. They have a pretty excellent selection, it's easy to check what they have in stock through their app, and the people working there are helpful. Easy to put an order in for pickup, they process the orders quite quickly and the pickup process is very easy. They have a decent collection of hard to get stuff, but the really difficult bottles they hold for big spenders and raffle off the right to purchase. I find the prices are usually quite good at Total Wine & More as well. I'm a bit surprised that the rating here is as low as it is. read more

Total Wine is like Disneyland for adults and alcohol drinkers. I love finding niche drinks here, and they also have cheese and meat from Boar's Head! I've visited a few times and generally, the staff is super nice compared to the other locations in San Jose. They always strike up a conversation with you and give suggestions. The store is easy to navigate and I love that they have staff favorites! Ordering online is the way to go and it's a simple process to come up and ask to take your box from the pick up area. Since it's located in a big shopping area, there usually isn't an issue with parking. Park nearby if you have a big case though! I've only had one bad experience but it was pretty bad. I would highly discourage going during a busy time (like holiday season) because it is very likely that an employee will ask if you need help and then just disappear--there's no use flagging someone down. I don't know if this is a seasonal problem, but it was frustrating talking to six employees who all left and avoided eye contact. read more

The staff was super helpful and they packed the bottles nicely in a cardboard box so I could transport them easily. I am not much of a cigar person but they seem to have a great collection. This location shares a wall with Guitar Center...with a Bass Pro Shop in the same parking lot and several food eateries. How could it not work out? Costco and Walmart are across the street, so this place offers welcome distraction. This location only has tastings twice a week and doesn't have the inventory Nevada stores do. In Las Vegas they have tastings every day and hundreds of scotches costing thousands of dollars (Such as a $45k Glenlivet from 1941) whereas here they only have hundred dollar spirits in locked cases. Still, they have the best craft beer selection, which dwarves BevMo. The staff are friendly and they have a number of local breweries beer. They have beer that's hard to find (like o'Hara's from Ireland) as well as my Austrian and Radler favorites. I really wish they sold New Bohemia beer from Santa Cruz. They have everything Almanac has ever produced, but are missing important local favorites like NuBo. It's hard to compare this store (likely the CA locations generally) with their Nevada counterparts, but it's still better than BevMo or expensive liquor shops. They have plenty of wine at this location however and a decent amount of spirits, albeit not as extensive as Nevada locations. My theory is that BevMo doesn't operate in Nevada, coupled with the real estate and taxes being cheaper and so they invest more there to retain market share, whereas here they're content to let others share profits and its more expensive. To give you an idea of how different the Nevada stores are, last month I met the CEO of the XO company in France. I've tasted eight different things in a single visit. The only problem the tastings generate is that customers will typically think vendors are TW employees when they aren't and have no idea what aisle that product resides, etc. I think they need to do a better job of educating the customer that many of the folks hosting tastings don't work there. Some of them are very interesting and have extensive backgrounds. My suggestions are to: 1. Identify tasting hosts as visiting professionals company wide. For this location: 1. Host more tastings and engage the many local breweries and wineries. 2. Sell beer from New Bohemia in Santa Cruz. 3. Put the Almanac beer in one place instead of three. Whilst this location is ok, it's a much different experience than the Nevada stores and could be interpreted as night and day for many customers. These are clearly corporate directives and not the folks who work at the stores making such decisions. With that being said, I'm happy we at least have a location here in the Bay Area. read more

I've visited a few total wine in bay area and sacramento area and I have to say this is the worse one. The staffs are overworked and not too attentive. There are boxes everywhere on the floor waiting to be restock. The aisle are CRAMPED! It barely fits a cart and people can barely pass. The worst part of the store is the scotch and bourbon aisle. There is a "rare" bottle display right in the middle of the aisle with lots of overstocked items like 2L coke bottles and some on sales item, and it's the most popular aisle in the store. I could barely get a moment to look at the display and other customer would try to squeeze by. The only reason is 2 stars because it is more well stock than other local total wine. But now I guess it's because it's so hard to shop here. Also parking is a nightmare with the guitar center next door. Why couldn't they face the front entrance same as bass pro shop side? read more

Apparently even if you're not the one buying alcohol, you have to show your ID. They told my husband I couldn't just walk out and allow him to buy the alcohol since I "already entered the store." I didn't have my physical ID on me since my husband was doing the driving and purchasing. Luckily I have a picture of my ID on my phone so we weren't rejected for our purchase. If they adhere to such a ridiculous policy (that no other store does), then they need to post a big sign out front or even better, have someone check IDs at the entrance. Instead, they gaslight you into letting you spend your time shopping around and then kick you out at the end of your experience there if you don't have your ID that you didn't know you needed. I went into this business for the first time and the last today. Grabbed a small cart and after a few mins in the store not sure of which direction to start I headed up to the front. The man engaged in conversation with another employee assumed I was waiting in the wrong line and said to go to another check stand. I then informed him my cart was in fact was empty and if I wasn't bothering him he might help me out. He did in fact seems bothered. At his computer he asked me twice the brand I was inquiring about and pointed to the opposite side of the store. I then took myself over there to walk in circles and then realize it was very small 4pk portions on the top shelf. Considering my long work day and need to not waste anymore time of my own I left. I love this place. It's like Disneyland for people that like to drink. They've got a pretty wide selection of spirits, which is perfect for a classic cocktail loving guy like myself. Some of the more hard to find or obscure Amari and Vermouths can usually be found here. They of course have a very wide selection of wines as well. The layout of the store is also very nice and easy to navigate. The wines are categorized by wine type and region. But one of the reasons why I really love this place is the people. Specifically, one employee named Keith. I stopped by the other day looking for a new Vermouth. I've used Dolin for years and I've seen numerous Youtube cocktailers that use Cocchi di Torino. I bought a bottle of Cocchi but I don't really like it. So I asked Keith if he could recommend a vermouth that was a little more flavorful than Dolin but not quite as out there as Cocchi di Torino. He recommended Grasotti vermouth. So I picked up some of that. I also mentioned that I was out of Luxardo Maraschino liquer and he recommended another brand that I'd never seen before. I don't recall the name but it was actually quite a bit cheaper than Luxardo. I ended up buying that too. We got home and tried the Vermouth and Cherry liquer and they were both excellent! Keith's recommendations were exactly what I was looking for. So the next time we stopped by I asked for Keith and told him I was looking for a coffee liquer that had a little more going on that Mr. Black. Mr. Black is great for someone that REALLY likes the flavor of coffee as it is basically just a neutral spirit with coffee added. Not much added sweetness to it. But I'm more of a mocha every once in a great while kind of guy so Mr. Black doesn't quite do it for me. If I'm making a coffee martini for myself, I'll use Mr. Black and add a little Godiva liquer or Kahlua to give it an extra kick. Well Keith recommended an Italian coffee liquer that again was exactly what I wanted. Also, Total Wine's pricing is pretty good. I bought a bottle of Italian wine Petra Zingari from Wine Access for $20 and Total Wine had it for $13. The only issue with Total Wine is I wish they had a better selection of ciders. read more
