Now coming in it was a little awkward as you walk in and the counter is right by the entrance just like most restaurants, but there were no signs that said wait to be seated or seat yourself. After standing there for a couple of minutes I saw people grabbing menus and congregating to the register. I was waiting for someone so it worked out well. You order and then take your number or in this case a magic 8 ball to the table(so they know which order goes where). This location is much larger than I remember. It had a very eclectic ambiance. More or less different types of tables and chairs everywhere, but gave off a homey vibe. The people that were working were very pleasant. We both opted for water, in which they had a water station for you to fill a cup and sit down. After sipping my water I noticed the glass I had was chipped and cracked, a chard actually chipped off in my hand. I took it back up to the front and exchanged it. Probably not the best idea to have all of the glasses stacked on top of on another. I ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich, in which upon ordering they had to check if they were ready to serve that. I was lucky enough that they were, although I did have a back up plan. The turkey sandwich came out with a mixed green salad with a dressing I was not sure of, but was very refreshing. The turkey sandwich on sourdough was very flavorful and I was very happy with my pick. I would definitely come back here and try more things, although the Cajun sandwich remains on my mind. One of the better sandwiches I have had in a long time!

But I digress -- you're supposed to be reading my review. I decided that I was in the mood for grilled cheese and tomato soup, so that's what I ordered. The tomato soup is really amazing -- so fresh tasting and delicious. But the sandwich was next level nom-ness. I opted to get it on sourdough because it's the best for dunking into the soup. Totes 'lish (I just thought I would type like one of the cool kids!! In conclusion, I want to talk about the service -- ordering was fairly simple, and the varied menu made it exciting to know there are so many choices. You order in line and the incredible wait staff brings the food quite quickly. With the vibe, the service and all the things, I am definitely coming back.

I wasn't hungry but wanted to buy a drink anyway. The staff was busy making food and serving another family. The staff appears to be multi-functioned covering the back and the front. One of them handed us menus. The inside is modest-sized, well filled with tables and chairs. There are some seats outside, too. The Drink: Wylde Berry Smoothie, $12 - 4.5 Stars Menu: Wild blueberries, marionberries, raspberries, blackberries, banana, agave Noted as having 'Tons of antioxidants and fresh flavors', this is one of the best smoothies in recent memory. It is thick with tons and tons of berries. I don't think I need the agave since the banana gives it the sweetness. Regardless, this drink was amazing. $12 seems like a lot, but considering what it has, I think it is a fair price. I am giving it 4 stars for now. I hope to return for their food items, too.

The wedge salad came out and idk how it was marketed as wedge when it was a bowl of salad completely engulfed in dressing(closer to soup than salad). Next the fries and onion rings came out and I'm not usually a stickler for what things cost, but $17 for like 6 onion rings and a very sad plate of fries. We expected a bit more for what we ordered for the table. Lastly the wings. While the flavoring of the wings were good, they came out not too warm to the touch and biting into them they were cold on the inside. Concerned that we may get sick from uncooked meat they assured us that they were precooked and just dropped into the fryer to finish them off. To me it is concerning that though they were precooked and still missed on hearing them all way, you may need to have a chat with your kitchen. Both of the servers were on top of it and ran both dozens back to have our order recooked. Second time around they were hot and crispy with good flavor(although the garlic boom boom wings were missing one of the sauces the second time around). It didn't matter, we ate them and paid. Not sure we will put this on our revisit list. Maybe the burgers or flatbread were the way to go, but out of 3 menu items and even the drinks.... There needs to be much more effort to everything here...

A food lovers paradise. I visited the Totem restaurant, and I was rewared with a delicious bacon-burger. As a self proclaimed foodie I could easily, tell that all of the burger was carefully prepared, and that the ingredients were high quality and wholesome. It was easily the best bacon-burger I've had the pleasure of feasting upon. The meat was full, the tomato was a crisp and fresh, and the fries were delicious. Near the end of my meal the owner of the Totem, Alicia introduced herself. She was so sweet and completely understood how to flare up the meals. She was so nice, she was passionate about her business, and was warm person. Alicia really was able to connect with family and I on a personal level. She explained how she was foodie and wanted to have customers have a real experience at her restaurant She was sweet enough to introduce us to her desserts (we decided to go with a cinnamon and a few pieces of lemon pie). The cinnamon roll was delicious, baked with love, huge, and included a side of cheese cake topping. The lemon was cake was a wonderful confection that captured the perfect flavor of lemon, it even included a nice personalizing touch of a cookie on top (Alicia even even included a few extra pieces for me to have) Needless to say, the meal, service, dessert and even the owner were all perfect. Totem Family Dining beats out all competition, no other family restaurant open first dining has got me hooked. I had a wonderful, re-memorable experience. I will return here for years to come for real meals, and appetizing desserts. read more

The Totem Diner is one of those places that feels like a hidden gem... except apparently everyone already knows about it. If you're anywhere nearby, it's worth the stop--but be prepared to wait. We chatted with a regular while waiting who told us his grandparents' photo is hanging on the wall and that there's always a wait... because it's that good. He wasn't wrong. We only waited about 10-15 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad considering it was a Friday morning before Memorial Day. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for from a diner that's been around since 1953--classic, old-school, and full of character. One of my favorite parts was listening to people chatting across booths asking things like, "What did you order?" and "That's so much food!" It had a warm, community feel that made the whole place feel welcoming. The food is classic diner fare done well. Everything was delicious, and the portions are HUGE. Definitely come hungry or plan to leave with leftovers. Judging by the number of to-go boxes around us, most people were leaving with enough for another meal or two. And the staff? Exactly what you'd want in a busy diner--friendly, efficient, and great at balancing conversation with keeping things moving. My wife and I had an exceptional experience, and we wanted to express our thanks. We were fortunate to have Kacey as our server, and she truly made our visit memorable. Kacey's enthusiasm for the restaurant and the food was infectious, and she took the time to talk to my wife and me about how great the dishes are. Her friendly demeanor and excellent service added a personal touch to our meal. We decided to split the Farmers Market Omelet, and it was absolutely delicious. We both loved how the avocado was prepared--it was fresh and perfectly ripe, adding a delightful creaminess to the omelet. Additionally, we shared one pancake, which was light, fluffy, and flavorful. The portion sizes were just right, and we were pleasantly full for the rest of the day thanks to the great-tasting omelet. READ the reviews -LOTS RECOMMEND SKIP THIS PLACE!!! WORST MANNERS IN AN OWNER EVER!!!!!! He doesn't want your business and is happy to let you know! He was RUDE, VERY DISRESPECTFUL, OBNOXIOUS AND I COULD GO ON!!! My senior citizen father was going to breakfast (no family was available to meet him, so he ended up with the booth - alone). The Staff, and then owner DEMANDED that he get up from a booth (in a half empty restaurant - off peak times) and move to the counter to eat his breakfast and drink his coffee!!! We had eaten there many times when his father owned/ran the place with such great customer service - This son is a punk and was WAY OUT OF LINE. Our family will NEVER eat there again!!! Also, the prices have gone above market, the restrooms are poorly stocked and awkwardly designed, the parking is DANGEROUS along Evergreen. So save your time, money and frustration - there are many better local choices!!! RUN AWAY!!! read more

The Totem Family Diner far surpassed my wildest expectations. Our family of four was immediately greeted with a smile and seated in the well occupied diner. I ordered the famous Louisiana style chicken fried steak while my husband chose to build his own omelet, my daughter stuck with the fruit waffle and my little tot got the Jr breakfast . Our waitress suggested we snack on the "little" cinnamon roll while we waited for our food to arrive. Our food came out at a record breaking speed and the $4 cinnamon roll was big enough to easily feed a family of four. Each of us devoured our food (even my picky littles) but what was truly impressive was the service. Everyone who worked there had a smile on their face even though the place was packed! Wow... So amazingly good I had to come back the next day to make sure I wasn't dreaming.. My only problem is what to have next.. The menu is huge! Incredible experience at Totem Family Dining! The staff welcomed us warmly, and despite a full house with no tables immediately available, they promptly prepared one for us. We were acknowledged within a couple minutes of being seated. They would not let me get a take out order because I was delivering for someone. I then asked "what if I were to order something for myself to go?". They wouldn't let me get anything even that way, since I had mentioned I was delivering it to someone. I never felt so unwelcome at a business before. I meant no harm. Just trying to order a to go item and was made to feel like a criminal. Needless to say I will avoid that place from now on. read more

Thick cut like texas toast, and much less dense than homemade banana bread that I am used to. Alas, the server said they might discontinue it, and that they didn't have a recipe but probably ordered it. Shame, now I must find this delicious banana bread! This is a small local chain, but I certainly wish they had a franchise down in the Portland area!

I didn't try the coffee but my ice tea was great. We decided to split the Gutbuster omelette. And it's good we did because it was a huge plate of food. Truly lived up to its name. I have to admit the hashbrowns were PERFECT! Crispy on the outside, not oily, and thick and soft on the inside. The omelette filling was super tasty! One thing I will say...it looks like ALL the dishes are more than generous. When I saw the fries go by on someone else's plate, I almost regretted not ordering some because they looked so legit. But it'll just give me another reason to come back. Both waitresses we interacted with were super friendly and attentive. It's amazing how they successfully juggled guests and plates. Ambiance: it's a small, clean space. We arrived 15 minutes before opening and a line was already forming. Jake's is worth repeating.
