Eating here is an experience. One I definitely enjoyed. We had the fajitas and the totonacos special. The chicken is seasoned perfectly and the flavor is exciting. My family and I went to dinner for my birthday at Totonacos Mexican Grill. (They were allowing people to dine in but only seating people at every other table) Our waitress was very nice and she took our drink order right away. After we all ordered our meals we noticed she would only bring one plate out at a time. We waited about 5-7 minutes in between each plate which was a little annoying. It's hard to enjoy a family meal when only half the party had food at the table... The food was pretty bland. I had the california burrito and I only ate 1/4 of it and threw the rest away. My husband tried the ceviche but regretted it immediately. It was made with canned tuna and he ended up getting really sick that night. I'm not sure if they had a new cook working but we will not be coming back here. read more

The restaurant is setup very nicely, with a very clean and fairly rustic but stylish interior. The staff greeted me quickly and got me seated. They got me a drink and chips and salsa quickly. The salsa has a great texture and isn't to runny (big plus i dislike runny salsa). The food took a little longer then I would of liked to come but when it arrived it looked amazing. I ordered the colando and it tastes great. I do feel that the lettuce is a bit runny and I will ask to not have it included in the future. the chicken tastes as though it was frozen. Customer Service: 10/10 Honestly, this was some of the best service we have had yet. Everyone there was so on top of things. They checked on us numerous times throughout the meal, and made sure we were seated quickly! Environment: 8/10 We pay extra close attention to make sure restaurants we are visiting follow CDC guidelines, and Totonaco's made us feel oh so safe. Every staff member was wearing a mask, and the place was immaculate. We were also seated far apart from others! Menu: 7/10 The menu is rather large, but the servers provide great recommendations. Because they have such a large menu there are a lot of options for everyone. Price: 7/10 We felt the pricing was totally fair! It was average for a Mexican restaurant, but they do have large portions. For example, the amount of guacamole they served us it would have cost an arm and a leg at Chipotle. Taste: 7/10 We think that Totonaco's has really unique menu items that you can't find anywhere else. We loved the grilled pineapple that was served to us on fire! Yes, fire! As a personal preference we don't love when there are multiple meats in one dish. And both the burrito we got, and the pineapple had multiple meats. We have been meaning to try this place for a while. It's off the beaten path so easy to overlook. DON'T! We were so happy we gave it a try. Many things on the menu you don't see elsewhere. In fact, it was hard to make a decision. Finally settled on the mole poblano enchiladas for me and the shrimp chimi for the hubs. First the chimi- succulent shrimp in an indescribable sauce. Soooooo yummy. Beans, rice, and a salad complemented the chimi. I ordered the mole poblano enchiladas. Do you know mole poblano? Hint of chocolate, hint of spice. OMG this was the best I've had in a very long time. The enchiladas were filled with chunks of chicken. Perfectly seasoned and delectable. They have a very attentive staff that is overzealous to serve you. Unfortunately that's where the uniqueness ends. The food is very run of the mill, bland, Mexican-American approach. The salsa was fresh but very gringo in lack of flavor and spice. We ordered the enchiladas verdes suizas and enchiladas poblano and were assured the mole was made from scratch but it wasn't unless it's "Rachel Ray" scratch. The chicken was the same for both enchiladas- dry and overcooked and flavorless. So amigos, this new place has a lot of heart, serves up large portions and very friendly eager to serve staff but unfortunately lacks any pizzazz on the plate. I ordered the pineapple fajitas and they were amazing! They first brought out the fix-ins (rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream) then our waiter brought a pineapple cut in half that was on fire! Inside the pineapple is shrimp, steak, chicken, bacon and cubed grilled pineapple. The only throng is that they only brought 2 small tortilla with it but when I asked for more they gladly brought out 3 more without charging us. My wife ordered the chicken chimichanga. We thought we would try it out since we had never been. The atmosphere was okay and the building was clean. We were seated immediately. We got our drinks and chips and salsa pretty quickly. While we waited for our food our server was gone. Our drinks needed a refill and we were hoping for more chips and salsa. I had to go to the front to ask someone for more. Our food came out and is the reason for the low rating. I had the triple combo. Having eaten at many other Mexican restaurants in the area I thought I knew what the portions would be. However, they were very small. The burrito was the size of a frozen microwave burrito and the enchilada was not much larger. Both (ground beef) tasted identical and unfortunately tasted like the smell of a wet dish rag. I finally got more salsa to drown the flavor but it wasn't enough . My wife's fish tacos were okay - she said they were pretty bland. We will not return due to the quality of the food, portions, and cost. Totonacos is doing a great job having dine in safely during covid! They also seem to have enhanced their pickup order process too, but we haven't used it yet. They do offer complimentary chips & salsa when you arrive & most the dishes we've tried have been good. Mexican rice is great & I liked my tortilla soup! The refried beans do seem canned (which I use at home too & just add spices so it doesn't seem that way) so we may ask for black beans next time for a different flavor. The employees have been pretty nice & they've got spacing & sanitizer everywhere if you're concerned about that plus are using disposable cups for drinks. Really the biggest thing we don't enjoy is the music. It can get really loud, clash with the music the kitchen also has playing loudly, & last time there was a super inappropriate song played for us having kids with us to dine. Otherwise the decor is cute & place looks clean every time we go & food is pretty good overall with good prices. Two stars for their good queso and horchata, but that's about all that was good. I read the reviews and was hopeful for Totonacos, but ended up very disappointed. Tried the pineapple fajitas, but the flour tortillas were the consistency of uncooked tortillas I buy from the store but that were only on the grill for about 10 seconds per side. I could tell by how they tore that they weren't cooked all the way through, and they lacked any good cooked flour flavoring. We also tried the enchilada suizas, which we normally love at other restaurants, but they were very bland. Tortilla chips weren't as good as store bought brands, and the salsa was uninspiring too. Rice was average, and the beans had very little flavor. Not sure how this place has gotten good reviews - maybe in comparison to the lack of other options nearby?? If you're in this area, there are far better options in Payson, Springville and Santaquin for Mexican food. read more

I went with 4 friends. We have been testing out different Mexican restaurants. The chips needed salt and the salsa was thin and weak. It wouldn't stick to the unsalted chips. They get like a 2. We ordered the chorizo queso to go with the chips. Good thing we did. That was really good. A solid 4.5. I had the ceviche -- it as ok nothing amazing. I also had tacos el pastor. The meat was over cooked and the tacos needed sauce. I asked for some sauce and they gave me a green guacamole based sauce. What was great was the rice. My tacos came with the charro beans. Those were excellent. Very flavorful. The guys I was with enjoyed the fajita and the quesadilla. We didn't have the pineapple fajita -- maybe we should have. The place is nice and clean and not crazy loud. They take reservations - we didn't know that but still got in after a 15 minute wait at 7:00 on a Friday. Our overall impression was the place was ok but not worth the drive from Provo.
