0 stars!!!!!!!!! MOLD CAKE, NOT FRESH! I ordered a cake on Wednesday in the store for my daughter's 2nd birthday and picked up the cake on Sunday. I think the clerk just put away the cake that was already on display on Wednesday and gave me the same cake on Sunday instead of making a fresh one. The freaking strawberry had mold on it! The macaroon was soggy as hell, definitely not fresh. And other fruits didn't have mold but were all soft like definitely not fresh fruits. I reached out to the store and no one bothered to reply regarding this issue. I've gone to this store so many times and so disappointed about their customer service. It's disgusting to think that the cakes aren't fresh and to get a molded cake for my daughter's birthday while they don't care to respond. read more

I've anted to visit Tous Les Jours before and when strolling through Chinatown and stumbling upon this location--plus my friend steering us inside--I got my wish. But unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I got a mousse cake or something and it was good, but not something I'd bother to go out of my way for (or really, probably not something I'd stop in for even if I was walking by). I don't like the way the layout of the whole system is; maybe I'm not getting it or maybe because my friend has visited here plenty of times she knew what she wanted but since we got in line waiting to get to the front, I couldn't see what was in the pastry case and that meant that I only felt comfortable choosing from the very few items I saw as I was walking in. Since the line was so long, I didn't want to hold everyone up by going to look at the case again when my time came to go to the register. None of the stuff that they had for sale on the way to the front called my name, so it was just the items from the pastry case. This place is a miss for me. read more

When you first enter there is a hand sanitizer station. All the pastries are individually wrapped in a plastic wrap. Prior to COVID-19, a lot of the pastries were not wrapped and you'd just grab it with tongs. There's a lot of options to choose from - Korean pastries to French. My favorite thing to get is the twist donut and the macarons. There are more than 1,650 stores worldwide, 60 in the US @ at least 7 locations in Chicagoland. This location is in Chinatown. Kind of trippy a Korean owned bakery selling French pasteries in Chinatown. GO FIGURE? When you have a good thing w/great pastries (I mean who doesn't like pastries?). Our first time at a Tous les Jours and we went to the one in Chinatown this past weekend. OMG! Such a sweets and pastries heaven! Everyone will find something that they like here in fact I found too many things I liked. We had the ganache cream chocolate, mini Danish pan bread, almond toast, Pain Au Chocolat and a peach mango smoothie. Service was very slow that's why I gave it four stars. It would have been five stars except for the slow service. It looked like there were two people that were being trained and a third person in charge that knew what she was doing. One of the things I love about the desserts is that they're not overly sweet; I'm not a fan of cakes or dessert that basically tastes like diabetes in a mouthful. My favorite pastry shop in Chicago (and probably one of my fav chains in the world). They are a Korean chain that specializes in an Asian spin on French-style pastries, which are very popular in Japan and Korea. These are very different from American pastries, in that these are very light, very airy, and not so sugary. The pastries are more like fluffy milk breads rather than dense yeasted or sour breads. The cakes have a light sponge and the icing is usually whipped cream rather than a buttercream. I also find these pastries much fluffier and delicate than Chinese pastries you'd find in the area, which tend to have a denser crumb. I love getting birthday cakes here - they'll often have some you can just pick up on the spot, and they're incredibly adorable. They also come in a great carrying box, with a disposable cake knife with candles and matches (perfect if you're bringing it somewhere). I also love getting pastries for breakfast. The custard horns and buns are exactly like the Japanese ones I'd eat as a kid. The curry and kimchi croquettes make fantastic, rich lunches, as do the mini hot dogs. The only thing is most items are best when you buy them - they will harden a lot when refrigerated. Many of the buns can last a day outside the fridge. You can't really go wrong with anything here! read more

Outside of the Starbucks, this is probably the closest you'll get to what most Americans or Europeans would describe as a coffee shop in the Chinatown area. For coffee, it is reasonably priced and has the menu you would expect as well as some teas and other drinks that you'd be surprised not to find in a Chinatown. There is also a mix of European pastries as well as pastries and baked goods you'd find at the other Chinese bakeries in the same general area. Overall, I think the pastries here are okay. I found myself here multiple times during my trip to Chicago as my main source of caffeine and for that it is good. But the croissants are a bit dry and you really need that coffee or tea to pair them with. There are no posted hours on the door but they open at 9am. About a dozen or so types of pastries are available when they open, with more becoming available between 10-11am. read more

They were both delicious! I think the prices are decent and worth the items themselves. There are a variety of sweet and savory pastries! They also have drinks, like coffees and teas, that looked pretty good. Their cakes look decadent and yummy. We didn't try anything from inside the class cases, but I would like to one day. I recommend this place for a casual date, s group hang out, or if you're looking for a snack or a dessert! You basically grab a tray and tongs and fill it up! I would be in so much trouble if this place was closer to me! This is my second time visiting, and each time I'm overwhelmed at the selection. The sesame donuts are delicious. I did try something new this time and that was the taro milk bread filled with taro cream... and wow. I won't be skipping this next time. Love this bakery and will definitely come back to get all the special birthday cakes for loved ones here! Their milk bread is a dream and is so soft and delicious! We also got slices of your mango, green tea, and chocolate cake which were so good. It was my mom's birthday and I got her the cloud cake which was about $45 for the small and they also come in a large cake size as well. I live in Milwaukee so I don't often go to Chinatown nor this type of Asian bakery which focuses on more French/western instead of traditional Cantonese baked goods. I was beyond excited to know there is one Tous Les Jours in Chicago Chinatown as I have been to Tous Les Jours in the east coast and many similar bakeries in China! First of all, my tip is avoiding the drinks as I learned the coffee is just so so and the milk drinks are very sweet from the brand's other locations. Just not worth the price. Various cute-looking baked goods are displayed as expected, but there are no samples as in the east coast. The raspberry milk bread (white ones) are really good - tender but a bit chewy dough with delicious cream cheese inside. The feta cheese pastry and croissant are okay - kind of sweet but not over powering. The pure wheat bread and the chestnut bread are something I die for breakfast! The green tea soboro is disappointing - dry, over sweet and has no filling. The sweet potato donut is okay, but because it is cold its dough part tastes greasy. The sausage pastries are all good. You just can't go wrong with them. I picked one and ate it after I paid and had tried others before. Overall, 3.5 out of 5. Its quality is just slightly better than average. Picked up a cake from tous les jours for a friend's bday and was not disappointed! It was pricey but so delicious! The green tea flavor was not very strong but we liked it that way. It was light and fluffy and easy for the whole group of 8 to eat. Perfect location for a bakery in the center of Chinatown. They have a wide variety of pastries that fits all taste buds. Not only do they have delicious pastries, but they also have a ton of options when it comes to their cakes. Their cakes look so yummy and fluffy. I opted for their matcha strawberry and it was so fluffy and tasty. Their matcha was not too overpowering, I was able to taste the strawberry in there which was a huge plus because I hate powdery matcha. It was a little confusing to see which way of traffic it was going since everyone was pretty much all over the place and no one was really practicing social distancing. There was a stack of trays with parchment paper and tongs for anyone who needed them but it was a free for all. During the pandemic I don't need random strangers touching my food, so I decided although the pastries looked delicious I stayed away from them since they were pretty opened to the public. Instead I opted for their cakes which were behind the glass and employees only and also their teas. I would recommend that maybe they can have a couple employees on the floor to help serve guest one at a time rather than have this a free for all because when the store gets busy, anyone can be touching something and putting it back without them knowing. I think it is pretty cool that Chinatown is getting hip new places. Some stores were filled to the brim with items that most people weren't going to buy so it's nice to see new businesses that will bring more people to Chinatown (but there wasn't a problem with tourism there - tons of people go no matter what. I go at least 3 times a week.) The first things I heard about this place were that it was expensive and that it's an Asian-French bakery. This didn't keep me from going. I like going to new places and I also wondered what baked goods fell under the Asian-French category. Although, this is not a usual Chinatown bakery so if you want bbq pork buns or egg tarts, you won't find them here. They are definitely more upscale baked good items where the concept was birthed out of the basic Asian baked goods but with a French and more modern twist. It was cool to see items like Green Tea morning bread, Squid Ink Cheeseballs and Melon bread. It's definitely a world of fusions inside. I ended up getting the Green Tea morning bread and ganache cream chocolate champagne bread. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there's green tea creme inside of the morning bread. It was pull apart so I can share. When you pull it apart, the creme doesn't come out. It's situated inside of each separate part of the bun. Smart! I LOVE chocolate and the ganache cream chocolate champagne bread was a dream! It was super chocolately inside so I grabbed some milk to drink with it. The employee that was making looked new, as she had to refer to the recipe that was taped to the fridge. On a Chinatown run this week, next pick of the day was Tous les Jours I'm going to call it everything pastry. Croissant and bread lovers come stop by when your next around. The milk bread was my favorite I'm a texture person so that was the reason I wanted to try it. It was soft like a marshmallow with a fluffy semi sweet filling in the inside amazing balance of textures. Next I ordered the rose berry ade which I didn't really care for but it was good, crisp and refreshing. When I heard the place is open, I know that I have to stop by. The baked goods - the taste is great. Everything is good. If you go to H-Mart and buy bakeries there, my suggestion is to go here. Its way better. The price is also the same as H-Mart and this place has more varieties than H-Mart. The place - it's not big. It's typical other chinatown bakery space but it's clean and there's so many seats which is good. You can sit and chill there The service - its a bit slow because the workers are new and still learning. This is the reason I take one star.
