I'm not sure if this is true in the other locations of Naperville or Glenview, but this bakery has the same endemic problem of terrible customer service. Actually, I think Feida and Qiu Chuon has better service than this place! Is it because it is run by young staff who are just there to make a buck? Is it because I went at 6pm? In addition, one would expect the cakes to be done well, especially if I have to pay upwards $30 for a tiny cake. Uh, so why is the frosting not smoothed out on the strawberry cake so it looks like a mess? Why do some of the frosting dots look like someone squashed them? Is the chocolate sweating? read more

I love their cakes! Almost always order their cakes for special occasions. My favorite is their mango cloud cakes. You definitely need to order ahead if you want the cloud cakes because as you can see in the pics, they don't have it out in the window. This time I ordered the tiramisu one. It's not bad but I've had better ones. I feel that the coffee flavor was not too strong like the others I've has before. I like mine strong. But it was still delicious nonetheless. They do have lots of good pastries and buns which is what many people grab but it was getting crowded inside so I didn't get to look around. read more

I'm so happy they finally opened a Tous Les Jours! All the locations were too far away from downtown Chicago to go to regularly. Their products are not true Chinese pastries, but have a fusion flair to them. I love all their baked goods, the curry croquette is my new favorite! I also really love anything they have that's filled with fresh cream. They also have a good selection of macarons if you're into those. And also their cakes are so adorable. My fiancé ordered a matcha espresso latte which he appeared to really enjoy. It's not really my thing though, was not sweet enough for my liking! But if you like the inherent bitter tastes of matcha and espresso. then I'm sure you would enjoy it too (I like to cloud the taste of my drinks with sugar). Minus one star for their service- they seem a little disorganized. They're probably still getting the hang of things since this place only opened recently. But please get it together soon! It took forever to get our drink order, and they don't really have a good system set up for that. Someone also left their credit card on the counter and when I let them know, the employees seemed to be at a loss of what to do. So first off you are a bakery that opens at 9am, ok well there better be stock piles of fresh pastries out then. At 9am when they open, there is barely any baked items out. I mean bakers get up at like 3am to have fresh items out by 6-7am. This place opens at 9am and doesn't have much of anything out. Nearly an hour later, some of their stock is trickling out. Most of their items are breakfast so I don't understand how it's acceptable to have empty shelves first thing when you open. Then we ask the cashier if they will have a particular item available. She says they may not have it today but we can wait to see??!! Ok they may not have it but we can wait and see...wait until when...tomorrow? . Then she finally uses head to go ask if they will have them and then says ready in 15 minutes. They see us waiting the entire time as other stuff comes out, and finally after another 30 minutes of waiting, I get pretty annoyed. If they weren't gonna have the item, it we would have ordered something else. After speaking to the staff again without much of an apology, finally they bring the item out a few minutes later. No "thank you for your patience" or "sorry for the delay" from any of the staff. I mean you see a customer waiting for that product maybe you would say ok let's get that baked first. But no, they clearly don't have a concept of common sense nor customer service. As far as their food, hit or miss. These are by no means French patisserie quality, for that matter nothing in Chicago comes close, so I don't really keep my expectations that high. I do however like the flower pastry (?) something that has a hot dogs in it (the French would be like sacre bleu), the almond croissant was good, and my spouse likes his ham and cheese croissant (which I found mediocre, but he said it reminds him of the McDonalds ham and cheese croissant in Germany so I am not sure that is a glowing review but it's nostalgia for him). read more

A trip to Chinatown is incomplete without a stop at the bakery, and now there's a new option in town. Tous Les Jours is an "Asian-French" bakery chain from Korea. I'll admit I was a little skeptical when I first saw the Soft Opening sign, but I decided to give it a try and bought a chocolate hazelnut croissant and I was very pleasantly surprised! The croissant was fluffy and had just the right amount of hazelnut filling. And at $2.50, it is pretty on par with French bakery prices. Tous Les Jours offers sweet and savory pastries, bread, macarons, cakes, a variety of drinks, and some seasonal specials including shaved ice. While prices are reasonable when compared to a French bakery, their slices of cakes are double that of the existing bakeries in town. I'll be curious to see how this Korean bakery will do in Chinatown. read more

This is definitely one of the highlights of Chicago's Chinatown. As a French-Asian bakery, their pastries are fresh every day. Try to get in earlier rather than later because they will run out. What a cute bakery! Coming to this place for just one sweet treat will never happen. Now let me just be honest, I didn't enjoy the raspberry donut, I wasn't a fan of the cream filling. The whole mile white bread totally made up for it though. I totally cheated and ate it with my dinner. The bread was so soft and moist it literally melted it my mouth. What a delight!!!!! There was street parking and two entrances. There was bit of seating and everyone there was very helpful. I invite all to try this spot with an open mind. I like pastries from Tous Les Jours. This store is smaller compared to Glenview but still has my favorites such as blueberry cream cheese cake and the milk bread. Customer service has been great. It's typically busy whenever I go since I go on the weekends but no complains about that! They do not treat their black customers very well. The staff called in security on me due to complaints about an odor coming from an area I wasn't even sitting in. They didn't go to any of the customers in that area. They went all the way over to me. Do you want to know how they clean? They lazily spray disinfectant and dont even wipe down their tables and chairs. I went to their bathrooms and did a smell check, even changed my clothes, and that was when security was called. Even the security just shrugged when i tried to ask for an explanation. The employee behind her just snickered behind her back. Absolutely disgusting behavior. read more

They are fluffy, buttery and very tasty. I always will find an excuse to stop by if I ever see one. Tous Les Jours, an Asian bakery with French influence, how could I not be excited?! Yet, of course, it was too good to be true. I ordered 10 pastries/breads which came out to be around $40! So expensive from a bakery when most of their pastries were subpar and not as delicious as the many others located in Chinatown. SLICED FRESH CREAM CAKE (3/5): The cake was airy and fluffy, yet the taste was reminiscent of the strawberry cake from a grocery store, so I could have gotten a huge grocery cake for a much cheaper price and the same flavor! CHOCOLATE SHELL BREAD (3/5): I definitely had to live out my "Lucky Star" anime dream with this one. It was a standard sweet bread filled with a chocolate cream. The bread was light, but the cream was a bit too rich for my taste. THE+ MILK BREAD (1/5): I thought they were known for this so I expected it to be off the charts! Not that great and it left nothing to be desired. Tasted way too plain. MELON BREAD (2/5): A classic favorite of many so I had to get it! However, it did not meet my expectations and the taste was off-putting to me. The look of the melon bread was the only thing appealing about this pastry! BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE (1/5): Most likely my least favorite. The filling was too sour and the bread was not soft and fluffy. GARLIC SAUSAGE BLOCK (4/5): Pretty delicious! A sausage wrapped in a croissant, how could it be wrong? The only problem was that there was barely any garlic flavor. CROQUE MONSIEUR (2/5): How disappointing. Two slices of bread with a Kraft American cheese slice and a thin slice of ham slapped in between. The outside looked so appetizing, but the moment you taste it, what a huge let-down. SWEET FRANK ROLL (4/5): My favorite so far. The sweet bread was such a great contrast to the salty sausage. Reminded me of a Pretzel Dog from Auntie Anne's. CROQUETTE (3/5): The vegetable filling had a slight spice to it that somehow replicated a meaty texture. The crispy exterior was also delicious. Overall, Tous Les Jours left me quite disappointed with the taste of their pastries and breads when taking into account how costly it was.. If the price was cheaper, it might have been better. I am in town for a conference and we were looking for coffee and pastries near our Air BnB. We stumbled on this little spot and have and were so happy with what we found. There was such a unique variety of Asian influenced French pastry. There were tons of options and we seriously wanted to get one of everything. We brought back a nice variety and shared them between us and continued to return multiple times over the stay. The coffee was also on point. This is a pretty decent bakery. Their items are delicious but their customer service definitely needs improvement. I ordered a cake through the phone and after explaining what I wanted and giving them the name to put on the cake several times (I even spelled it out for them a couple times). I went to pick it up and I didn't notice the name because the window to the box didn't really allow me to see it at that point in time, but it was completely the wrong name. And when I was on the phone with them. I wanted to get the number three size which is an 8 inch cake, I was told they could have do 9 inch cake and when I picked it up, they made and charged me for a 7 inch cake. It is really irritating because it's a little bit too small for my party and now there's nothing I can about it. Honestly, if you're interested in getting a custom cake by them, go in person. The honey pankcake had like a apple pumpkin seed filling that was like breakfast in a cake. I think some come here thinking that because its an asian bakery that everything is going to be $1 and forget the level of skill that goes into it. Most of the sweet breads were around $3. Passed by a bunch of times and have seen a bunch of people go in so I was curious. My brother got the the melon bread and I got a green tea bread. The bread was soft and tasty, but wasn't anything TOO special. The green tea bread came with butter cream that became overwhelming and made the bread less enjoyable. There is a decent amount of space in the back of the bakery that allows for room to study or work. When it gets packed it can be hard to maneuver around though. This is my absolute favorite bakery. They make the softest, melt in your mouth bread I've ever had. My mouth is watering just typing this. The milk bread was my favorite. The filled one was perfectly soft and sweet, but not overwhelming so. The non filled one had a nice sweet subtle glaze on the outside and moist, fluffy dough inside. The raspberry filled donut was equally as soft with a tart, flavorful raspberry jam inside and powdered sugar on the outside. The green tea croissant was soft and flaky with a green tea mousse inside that tasted great. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other baked goods and get more milk bread! read more
