Every time we eat here we are pleased. It's one of the few places where you can purchase a meal at a reasonable price AND it tastes good! Today was the first time I got the fruit salad as a side. I was pleasantly surprised it was fresh fruit and not fruit salad from a can. read more

This is such a neat little cafe in Calallen. We had lunch on a Saturday and ordered the chicken pesto panini and the special of the day (a Thanksgiving turkey sandwich). Both were DELICIOUS! Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful and I enjoyed my side of fruit, too. We also ordered smoothies and were not disappointed. First time customers. This is by far one of my favorite cafes to come eat at. My BF and I have been here twice already. I love the positive atmosphere, staff is super friendly and the choices are all healthy. Coming from California the prices aren't bad at all. The first time we had the pecan cranberry chicken salad and croissant. Which was delicious! The second time we had the tuna and chipotle wraps. Both also delicious. I have ordered from here many times for my work establishment. I order weekly pastries from here. Cheri is truly a sweetheart and the love she puts into these desserts shows. A favorite and top seller is the brownie. So fudgy and rich. And also the blueberry cheesecake bars.the berries are so ripe and juicy. The crust is my favorite part. Also the lemon bars. I enjoy the fact the lemon is not too tasty. A perfect lemon sweet. The kolaches are delicious. Not like the ones you will find at a donut or station. These bad boys are packed with flavor. The sausage and cheese are loaded in a semi sweet roll. Now this sausage is more like a patty not those hotdog weiner kolaches. Yuck. During the holiday season we have also tried the pumpkin crunch bar.. yes thats right a PUMPKIN CRUNCH BAR. I DEFINITELY would suggest stopping by for some food and definitely a dessert. read more

Order a cake for a graduation a few years ago. Really enjoy the flavor but the cake was not thawed out properly. Decided to give them another chance since we love supporting small businesses whenever we can. This time i called almost 24 hours ahead to ask if they could make sure they gave to cake time to thaw. They said they would let the baker know. The cake we got this time was still very dense because they failed to take it out of the freezer at an appropriate time. Graduation year is a very expensive time and we paid a lot of money for the cake. Just wish they would've taken our advice into consideration. read more

Cute little place! Stumbled upon this hidden gem while searching for a small breakfast place in Calallen. My husband had the breakfast egg croissant and enjoyed it. I had the house panini which totally hit the spot! And tried the chicken poblano soup. Super delicious and creamy. The only thing is I didn't notice the cold coffee is made with cold brew concentrate and I prefer espresso. The coffee seems too expensive for the taste. read more

On our way home to the RGV, we needed a meal about the time we got on Hwy 77. Found this place on Yelp, and even though it was a few miles away from the highway, it was easy to find and a straight shot. Great little cafe, perfect for a quiet breakfast, brunch, lunch or a chat over coffee. Looks like not open in the evening. The atmosphere was folksy, peaceful, nice music and the staff friendly. A storefront church was nextdoor, and the cafe seems to be somehow connected. Good, wholesome, fresh food ingredients. Nice wraps, panini, salads and such. Both vegetarian and vegan options. Reasonable prices. Took a while to get my coffee, but it was good when I got it. Even though it was a bit out of the way, this little spot was a perfect and wholesome break during a long day's drive. Great for breakfast or lunch! Nueces Cafe has great coffee and breakfast items. I personally love their made to order breakfast croissant sandwiches, yum! My son lives their khloachies (spelling?), and my husband lives their cinnamon rolls! Really can't go wrong. It does take about 15 mins to get a breakfast sandwich but worth the wait. read more

I loooove Nueces Cafe, it's such a peaceful and and pleasant environment, all ages and family friendly with always good music playing! I get surrounded with peace and joy every time I am there! They have amazing family and house recipes, but my favorite options are the Chicken and Dumplings soup with the delicious cornbread and the croissant with the egg salad!! It's so yummy! The food is always fresh! Plus all the desserts! They have so many options that's is so hard to pick one! My all-time time favorite is the German Chocolate Cake! If they have it available you better hurry and get yours cause they are delicious and run out fast! They are always making sure you getting your order on the best way and time as possible and the owner is always checking on customers to be sure everything is as we pleased! I normally order The chicken salad and today I made a different choice and order the chicken taco soup. I was disappointed in that it was served to me with a few black beans and kernels of corn in it and no chicken. I took it back to the kitchen and they added chicken which I appreciate. The broth had very good flavor but was a little over peppered, and I enjoy pepper. I would recommend They add additional back beans and corn and possibly more chicken to make it a more substantial soup. read more

We stopped in for a visit from Colorado Springs. I would put Nueces Cafe right up there with the best local cafe, no problem. Great atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. There is a ton on their menu for lunch that we would love to try. EVERYTHING is homemade in house. The food was good for a morning "get me going". I had the egg wrap on spinach tortilla and my hubby had the croissant sandwich. Both nom nom nom. Their house brew coffee is a medium roast that has caramelly, maplely, and nutty aroma. It's super smooth and very well balanced. It's not very acidic and definitely not bitter. It leaves a pleasant aftertaste on the back of your tongue. If we lived in the area we would frequent this cafe on a normal basis. And, finally, last insight. They make a ginger, honey, feel better tea from scratch. It's amazing!!!! read more
