INEXPERIENCED. SLOW SLOW SLOW. I was willing you give this new place A LOT of slack for being new, but OMG, it shouldn't take 25 minutes from ringing up our order to heat up two pastries and make two espressos, especially when I told them FOUR TIMES that we were making it a QUICK to-go order. The staff clearly do not communicate with each other, even though they stand side by side. There is no one overseeing the whole experience. The barista lost or didn't know we had a coffee order. What really drew the line for me was that he didn't even apologize when he gave us our drinks, didn't tell us which drink was which, and scurried away. Now I'm extremely late to work and I'm peeved. The food and drinks might have been good, I don't know, because all I taste is regret and bitterness. Great morning, guys, thanks. I've eaten here twice, and takeaway twice more. I feel it's the perfect local Lamorinda spot, with less hassle and pretension than places closer to home. The menu varies enough to keep me interested, with a focus an fresh, local ingredients. Today I had a farro/fried egg bowl with lots of good veg, but my wife had the burger and fries. Both good. Town Bakery & Cafe is an excellent addition to the Lamorinda area! Town Bakery & Cafe is located in Moraga in one of the smaller shopping complexes. The service is reasonable. The pastries and food are delicious - in particular, we are obsessed with the scones! The Town offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately, the Town doesn't open until 8AM, so I can't grab a latte and pastry before I head off to work! read more

I typically don't write bad or poor reviews but after taking two friends to lunch at this place on Tuesday I have to say it was without a doubt the worst service I have ever had at a meal. Aside from the wait to just get noticed and then waiting for a clean table then the real wait began. The server was nice but both servers that day were totally incompetent. Three people and the orders came out in staggered with long waits between. I was with two ladies and one of them was served last. We ordered iced tea before the meal waited and asked several times " it's on the way" the tea arrived after all three had received our food. It was dropped off without any offer of sugar or sweetener, I asked was told I'll bring it right out.... he started serving another table and I asked again and he responded " oh yeah" and the dolled out two packets. I had the fried chicken sandwich which was just ok, would have been better if the bun wasn't greasy and surprisingly served with fries but no salt and no ketchup ( I didn't even bother asking) I've had better service at Taco Bell and it wouldn't cost me $50 plus tip. We just had a lovely brunch with fabulous food, sweet people helping us with my special requests and were pleased to see a busy restaurant! We have visited before and been just as pleased but worried that it was not busy enough to be sustainable, but this is our first weekend visit! Yummy omelet, great gluten free bread, the jam must be homemade. And a gorgeous almond latte! Sat inside and it is not too loud. Let's support this neighborhood treasure! read more

A hidden jewel in Moraga. We had dinner here which was very good. The Clam and Mussel chowder was flavorful and sumptous. It's a small place where the chef John is the owner too. As they don't have a liquor license you can BYOB and there is no corkage. I'd recommend this place to my fellow lamorinda folks. Please support our local businesses. The quality of the food here, and the kindness of the staff, make me hopeful that this will be a success. The first time I came in, the chef was cutting fresh herbs from a plant out in front, and in the rain! A great sign. But the price points are really HIGH! Twenty bucks for bacon and eggs, with a small cappuccino (and 15% tip) is just too steep, however pleasant the service is. $4.50 for an almond croissant? Just too high, even if it is this delicious. Cappuccino was PERFECT, and served Italian style. But it was $3.70 for a small and I can get an excellent cap across town at Sisi Cafe for three bucks for twice as much product. (Given the option, I would prefer the drink from Town Bakery, but at a price under $3.00) I want these folks to succeed and cannot overstate what a nice vibe there is here. But I would think that if they dropped their prices by even one third, they could increase traffic substantially. The "buzz around town" about the Town Bakery & Cafe is that it is very good, but overpriced. The reputation they should strive for, to be successful in Moraga, is "Great food and service and such a good value!" I would love to be a regular here and hope that becomes possible. read more

Excited to have a new restaurant in town. A bit disappointed in menu selection (brunch menu) -- need more options (especially vegetarian). Servers were very kind/attentive but waited quite awhile for meals. Perhaps, we visited this cafe on an off day. Will give it a try on another occasion--would love to support it. read more

Town Bakery is outstanding. I went in earlier this week and purchased a cranberry scone and vanilla latte. Both were delicious. I would recommend the Town if you want fresh pastries and great coffee. I did order pastries to bring to work for our meeting because I was so impressed with the quality of the food. The decorations in the store are fantastic and the staff is very welcoming and courteous. I will be back definitely. read more

I just had one of the best Chicken Caesar Salads I have ever had. The chicken was roasted to perfection, the dressing was rich and delicious and the portion size was large. I am very happy!! Delicious heirloom tomatoes with burrata cheese on tasty bread, with a substantial side salad. Good portions at reasonable prices. Refreshing iced teas. We sat outside and service was good. Suggested updates would be to have salt & pepper mills on every table... my food arrived, and I had to wait for the waiter in order to get freshly ground pepper added to my meal. Would also update some of the metal "auditorium" chairs outside with more comfy wicker-style chairs they have at most tables. Went to order quiche from the regular printed menu, but they did not have quiche. (Disappointing) We shall return!! read more

My family and I decided to finally try the Town Bakery for breakfast this morning. The web site says it is open at 7 am on Saturdays, so we headed out and were there at 7:30. The man behind the counter informed us that they don't serve hot food until 8:30, but we could purchase the pastries in the glass case at the counter. Not sure why they said they were open at 7 then, but whatever. So we started to order coffee. We were told we couldn't have coffee because the barista has not shown up. So...open at 7 am, but no breakfast until 8:30, and barista has not shown up for work. Hmm. SMH. read more

This place is a Moraga gem. The food is excellent, fresh and tends on the healthier side -- except of course their amazingly delicious pastries and baked goods. The family dinners give so much food you won't believe it. I really love this place and the fact that it has survived this pandemic is a testament to its popularity. I highly recommend it. This restaurant is such a great addition to Moraga. There menu is deep for their little size, there is something for everyone. And it is flavorful and healthy... except their fries... which are delicious and dangerous! I have been here 4 times; breakfast, lunch and dinner and have enjoyed each meal. They serve Mr. Espresso coffee, which is a favorite and their baked goods are also delicious. The people who run it give off a friendly family vibe. My office just ordered take out again and I felt compelled to update that service really does (as the other reviews state) seem to be a problem. We confirmed the order over the phone twice, and then again in person, but when we got back to the office we found that three salads were swapped with a different dish. We called back and the woman on the phone was really kind, but then confirmed she had written the wrong information on the kitchen's ticket. Things happen and it's not a huge deal in isolation, but this combined with our service issues on previous visits (both in the morning and at lunch) - it's clear this is a pattern. I would hate to see Town go the way of Homemade Kitchen (the restaurant that was previously in the same location) due to the same service/training staff issue. If you're paying $15-16 for lunch, you don't want to have to worry or plan extra time because you're anticipating that there will be problems. Finally, one additional thing to note is that the menu on the website is now outdated but hasn't been updated (this kind of falls in same bucket as overall staff/service issues I suppose). Many dishes are no longer available or have changed, so call before if you have your heart set on something to make sure it's still on the menu. All this said, the food is still amazing and delicious! read more

The pancakes came with fresh berries, and the pork belly egg toast was the best thing to cross my palate this month (fresh melon on the plate too?!). We saw the write up in the "Lamorinda Weekly" and went for breakfast this morning. It was a great experience. I had the eggs and pork belly over greens (there wasn't glutenfree bread yet... this is only their 5th day open) and it was delicious. When I return I'll order it this way again~ no bread needed. Service was friendly and fast, and the cafe filled up as we were eating, so word is getting around. Everything is house-made and the breads and pastries looked amazing. It's hard to find a good breakfast location in the Lamorinda area (Sideboard in Lafayette is good) and Town Bakery is just what we need. I look forward to going there for lunch sometime. read more

The food was great! The coffee was extra delicious. The pastries and breads all looked delicious. I had the bacon and egg plate with fruit and potatoes. The potatoes were well seasoned and cooked right and the applewood bacon was good too. You could tell they are having growing pains, only being open a week or so but by summertime, they will have a packed house out the door on weekends!
