Enjoyed a nice dinner here : Greek gyro with a side Greek salad and slaw. The gyro was really tasty with just the right combo of ingredients. The salad was nice also and the slaw was just ok, but the pickles were nice and crisp. Iced tea was bland, though. Service here is very fast and the portions are good. Town Diner on Rt. 130 Northbound in East Windsor, NJ, is an art deco palace, serving a broad array of standard Jerzee Diner dishes in a dining area that is well maintained with polished marble floors and attractive wood paneled walls. It has a ten stool counter, and a nice-sized dining room with booths and tables enough for a large group of people. I stopped by for breakfast after getting out of court this week, and grabbed a spinner near the kitchen door. The servers were dressed in black and white, and were well trained in attentiveness to the customer. I had a menu and mug of hot java within two minutes of taking my seat. The morning meal choices were vast, but I ended up doing a "Build Your Own" omelet with 3 eggs, Italian sausage, onion, feta and the home fries thrown in. It made for a large presentation on the plate. It was a decent meal, although I found myself noticing that the sausage was less than premium quality, with a reddish color, narrow diameter and denser texture compared to what I was accustomed to. Don't think it was the Italian I requested. Still, it was pretty good overall, and I couldn't finish all of it. Did enjoy the rye toast and coffee refills. Had the ingredients been right, the overall experience would easily have added another star to the rating. read more

Come here every weekend, we used to go to Americana Diner before they "renovated" and changed their menu. They became all fancy and bougey with their meh food and high prices, but Town Diner became the de facto place to come to for great breakfast options, pancakes, waffles, avocado toast, etc. without the obscene prices. A delicious, good portioned breakfast platter for under $10? Rare around these parts. The staff is always great, and it's become our favorite breakfast place. read more

I know the economy is bad, but businesses shouldn't drastically cut back on food quantity/quality for the bottom line or else they risk customer abandonment. I ordered a Western Omelette for breakfast, and, while the omelette (egg portion) was large enough, I could barely see any ham in it. And I really mean barely. They probably put less than a slice of thin ham in the entire omelette. It looked nothing like omettes others pictured online. I opened up the omelette, and I maybe saw a tablespoon of minisculely sliced ham -- total. The rest was peppers and onions. I definitely couldn't taste any ham. Maybe they skimped on the ham to offset the exorbitant prices of eggs these days. What a disappointment. Never again. Avoid this place! I still love this diner so much. From breakfast, cheeseburgers to dinners they're so delicious. The best burgers so juicy and thick with so much flavor it doesn't even need a condiment(seriously) not even ketchup. The pancakes here are so light and fluffy. 2 of them and you're good. Bacon always delish. Salads are huge and fresh. Sandwiches. Paninis, wraps are yummy and many choices. They even make fruit and veggie smoothies which seem to be a hot seller. Their desserts are awesome well the cheesecake gets high Marks in my book. Let's not forget the garlic knots they serve you at dinner time..yea I know carbs but those little bundle of warm garlicky butter goodness needs to be shared. Their soups are good depending on what it is..I am a fan of the cream of turkey and Manhattan clam chowder and of course the matzah ball soup. Sadly when I go here I always say in gonna order something different but I end up getting their burgers every time bc they are just soooo....YUM! They do get quite busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They do offer so many choices and different flavors. My daughter treated us for breakfast here because I told her food was so good. I asked the waiter if they put onions in their potatoes and he said yes. I told him I remember them because they were so good in the past. When food came out, eggs and pancakes were cold, the potatoes were burned and had no onions! Also they charged us a service charge for using a debit card and 8.00 for an orange juice and 4.00 for a kids juice. Service was good. When we paid, they never even asked us if everything was good. Food has gone downhill since our last visit. We will not be returning here again. read more

This place is a dump. The plastic glasses were not cleaned well. The knives and forks had fingerprints on them. The food is awful. I went there with my wife we both had scrambled eggs with home fries and toast with coffee. The eggs were tough. The home fries or hash brown potatoes were burned like potato chips. The toast was cheap bread I think they bought at a dollar store. The coffee was like water. Avoid this place. I went back again and the same crappy food. read more

Great food every time. We mostly do take out and the food has consistently been freshly made and delicious. My wife loves their white meat hot open turkey and the chicken Isabella, along with the beef gyros and salads. I prefer the sliced beef sandwich, gyros and salads too, along with the hot open roast beef. We both share and love the specialty omlettes, especially the Italian one. Only drawback is that the prices have risen (as any other place) but with the meals they don't offer a side salad, side appetizer or bread with any main dish for takeout. Plenty to eat, tho at their new prices, they should add something. read more

We've been going here for quite a while. The food and service used to be consistently good. In fact, we used to go to the much more expensive Americana Diner when they were still considered a diner and then switched over to this diner. However, recently, this place decided to reduce the portions of food while also increasing their prices at the same time. As an example, their French onion soup is now half the size and priced higher. Their bagel platter is missing some vegetables and priced higher. Is there a shortage of onions and vegetables? Why skimp on the less expensive food items? They present their "new" menu where "new" refers to their higher prices. As far as prices are concerned, this place is now on par with the Americana Restaurant. So why bother coming here? Many of our friends feel the same way and no longer come here. It's too bad. They probably just got greedy and pretentious. Other than that, at least most of the servers are nice. read more

Like kid you not it was by far the most nasties diner I've been too. We got calamari as a starter and this shit costed 10$ for 10 small pieces of squid. Like they try to compete with Americana down the road, and they're losing quite badly. Ordered French toast and they gave me a end piece of the bread, the bread was stale and it just did not feel right. My gf got the polo loco wrap, and what was inside was complete trash, it looked like it went bad. Just don't come here, awful food. What a disappointment! Stopped to have dinner this evening and was given a sandwich with bad roast beef. Notified the server that it smelled and it was tough and she said she would tell the kitchen. When I paid the bill The girl asked how the food was. I proceeded to tell her that my roast beef was bad and that I had left the entire meal on the table. She then said that will be $18.68 please. I truly was not looking for a discount but at least I am sorry would you like something else would have been appropriate. On a better note the server was very good! read more

This diner is the best diner in NJ. Andrea was our host and Allison was our waitress. They both were very nice. I have allergies from wheat nuts and fish. But Andrea took care of us the whole time and was very kind. She told us if the foods were safe and even told us about cross contamination. Allison was also very nice. We wanted many things after we ordered and Allison helped us every time. This was truly the best experience that we had ever got from a diner. Although the food at this diner is good, the service is very poor. As a long-standing customer of this establishment, I was totally disappointed in poor service I received the evening of 5/27. After being seated in a booth, my husband and I waited approximately 10 minutes to be acknowledged by our server. The restaurant was not busy. Another couple was seated after us and their waiter immediately welcomed them, introduced his self, and took their drink order. We sat there still waiting to be acknowledged by any wait staff. Another 3-4 minutes went by and my husband flagged down a passing waiter and asked if he could find our server. The waiter apologized for the delay and went to find the server. Once found, the waitress responded "I'll get them" and walked away. Upon hearing this, my husband and I got up and left the restaurant. Neither the hostess nor manager inquired as to why we were leaving. I am disgusted by the lack of service we received as well as the behavior of the waitress who was assigned our table. We ended up at the Americana Kitchen down the street where the food is consistently delicious and the wait staff is great (even when the restaurant is packed with diners). Needless to say I will not return to the Town Diner and do not recommend the service. read more

Diners are usually not my first choice when going out to eat. I'm not a big breakfast person, and if I want something casual it's very easy to cook it myself. The times that I have gone have more to do with convenience than personal preference. But.....diners have come a long way in the last several years. To compete for their share of the market, many have tweaked menus and added healthy and sometimes local options. Next to their meatloaf special you might be surprised to find a red snapper with risotto. Such seems to be the case for this well established business. Instead of playing it safe and ordering a sandwich or other comfort food, I did a Hail Mary and ordered seafood . I'm very particular with fish, and am not always satisfied even at much nicer joints. But on a brutally hot day, simple flounder seemed a good idea. After a standard but fresh house salad, my platter arrived and looked very good. It contained a decent and seemingly non dehydrated mashed potato, very good fresh mixed veggies( each item was cooked al dente and lightly seasoned with just a hint of garlic) and gently broiled flounder. This fish was as good as you can get anywhere, not overcooked or seasoned and no trace of chemical preservatives or having ever been frozen. Will other options on their menu be equally good? It's hard to say, but that's the issue I have with diners to begin with. Other meals going by looked and smelled good, and they seem to have a loyal and somewhat aging clientele. I plan on returning to try other things, but it will be hard to pass on the dish I just had. read more

Went here this evening and as always if there's something wrong with a meal, it's mine. I ordered the potato pancake Benedict which sounds and should be delicious; however; I was wrong. The poached eggs were well overcooked so I needed to send them back. Once returned, quickly I should add, they were perfect. Unfortunately, the potato pancakes were atrocious. They were thin and flavorless; even salt and pepper couldn't save it. The applesauce side was cold and edible but the quality was low. It truly could have used a meat as part of the meal, possibly ham or something more savory as polish sausage. Service was fine but whatever happened to returning to the table a few minutes after the guests begin eating to make sure things are ok? This is prevalent in many establishments today as the new norm. Ignore your customers and you won't have to deal with the kitchens shortcomings. You basically have to tackle your server to get something such as more beverages or condiments. One of my boys had a burger and the other pancakes which were fine. Someone on Yelp recommended me this place, and boy am I sure she did! This was a great place! The food was great, the service was fair, a little bit slow, but because of COVID-19 and everyone sitting outside, I could see they were busy. I started to get a chocolate milk, and it was fairly good. I could taste that there was chocolate syrup inside, which made it very chocolatey, but I would prefer to have chocolate syrup on ice cream not in chocolate milk. I got a breakfast burrito, and it was very good. The eggs were slightly dry but everything inside was delicious, and the tortilla was really nice and soft. When dining in food and service are outstanding they just can't get it together for pick up orders. Way too often I get home and either something's missing or they just didn't execute. Today got home and no pesto on the Italian Benedict. Kinda bummed about this. Any who had to take away 2 stars but I have to keep it real. Came for outdoor dining the other night and very glad I did. I've been here before and have always loved their burgers and fries, they have a lot of unique burger options that other diners don't have. The best part of the entire experience though was the dessert. We got cannoli cake and carrot cake for the table and oh my god... I order carrot cake a lot but this was by far the best I've ever had. Moist with thick creamy icing, just simply delicious. The cannoli cake was also amazing. I would recommend not skipping dessert! read more

Management was extremely rude and disrespectful after my delivery order was not received as described on the menu. When I called the woman who answered the phone stated that to go orders do not always follow the menu ingredients. When I spoke to the manager he did not care that I was not happy with the entree received as it was not as described on the menu. When I stated that there are other diners in the area he told me to go to Hightstown Diner and hung up on me. I will not spend my money at an establishment that does not care about their customers. I know errors happen but there is no reason to be so rude to a paying customer. The Town Diner lost a once loyal customer over a $13 salad. All they had to do was offer a different entree as the one received was not as described on the menu and not what I wanted or expected. Foolish business practice. The most important thing about the Town Diner is that it is actually a diner. It carries the history of the multiple iterations at that location (Golden Coach!!) but improves on the legacy. It serves consistently good food that never disappoints. From breakfast to dinner, the huge menu guarantees that you won't go home hungry and will certainly have something for tomorrow's lunch! I also like that the staff remains consistent from visit to visit. For me, a happy staff translates to a good work environment( translation-good food). It has become a regular stop for the family and we will continue the Jersey diner tradition by coming back often. read more
