Had two dinners here, with friends, in the last two months. The restaurant is clean, comfortable and has good service. The food, however, is unremarkable and not memorable. Bar none, BEST Diner I've been to yet! Their menu has a wide variety of options for each category. I've only been here for brunch. My favorite dishes have been their Egg Benedicts, which they have around 7 different kinds. If Eggs Benedict isn't your thing, try their Big Cat (Think McGriddle but wrapped in a tortilla). After a 5k, we were starving and looking for something local to try. We were really craving a nice salad, so finding this diner was perfect. The place was busy, but not too bad. However, there were so many tables crammed into one space that it was hard to walk anywhere without squeezing yourself between furniture. I have no idea what servers do with those large trays of food when they are slammed. Menu was good and large, also creative. Our server was nice, prompt and followed our order to the T. Our food was good, quite pricy considering what was in it, but still satisfying. We were able to get in and out in a nice time which is one of the things that's nice about a good diner. read more

Hungry on a Tuesday afternoon at about 3:30. Decided to go to Town Diner in E. Windsor, NJ. Typical diner outside with plenty of parking spaces. Patriotic mode indoors which I appreciate.Had been there 3 times before. There was 1 takeout. Was greeted warmly and seated in a booth by a window, as I had requested. It was not crowded at that time. Took awhile for the server to appear but she was affable and courteous. Ordered a Spanish omelette with well-done home fries and rye toast, butter on the side. Generally, I try to compare restaurants, diners with my favorite choices over the years. The Spanish omelet was tasty although the sauce was bland. The home fries were well-done. I got white toast, instead of the rye I had ordered. Interestingly, the butter was adequate and quite easy to spread( usually, diner butter is hard to spread.) Didn't mention the white to rye switch to my server because I didn't want to wait for a correction. The portions were smaller than my favorite diner. I suspect that they use 3 small eggs. The fries were ok except the vegetable oil used was not the best. I understand the supply and inflationary issues diners have to deal with so I think while my present experience rates 3 stars, my other Town Diner meals have been quite good. I went there for lunch as I wanted an omelette and they had a good selection to choose from on their extensive menu. I was seated right away and the server came over as soon as I was seated. I chose the Mexican Omelet which came with home friies and choice of toast. The food was good quality for the price and I enjoyed it thoroughly. However, one thing that erk's me to no end is that you ALWAYS have to track someone down to get your check. They NEVER give you your check unless you waive them down. Why did I waste my money here, I got what was supposed to be a Buffalo chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. Instead I got a lukewarm chicken patty on a bun smothered in hot sauce and mayonnaise. I did not get what I ordered and they cut corners and did not serve my meal accordingly with the items it was supposed to come with. Remember that this is a regular diner. The food comes out of the kitchen looking good and there is care in the preparation. I had a cheeseburger club. It was very well put together. The ingredients were fresh and the proportions were very good. The only problem I had was the lack of toasting on the toast. The French fries weren't my cup of tea. As I have said in many previous reviews I don't like the fries prepared with all the crunchy stuff coating. Fresh potatoes are the only way to go or at least the closest thing possible. My wife had Nutella banana pancakes that were excellent. The Taylor ham side wasn't the best. The service was ok, no complaints. If you live close by it's very good. Not special enough to pass a multitude of other restaurants to frequent. I thank the owner for his response. It shows they really care. I can only really speak to the breakfast offerings here, but to me Town Diner is a solid, affordable NJ diner. I've always been happy with my food and have no complaints. I used to like going to Americana down the street, but they've converted from being an accessible eatery to being a bougie, upscale place and I've found myself eating here instead. read more

I moved into the Monroe area this past March and we tried many different diners in this area. The Town Diner is the best. I had fond memories of the Americana Diner from back in 2006 when i worked in the area and now I'm back to live and work here. The Americana is not how I remembered it and so is the food. We discovered the Town Diner and have not had a meal that we didn't enjoy. Their service, value and prices are excellent. Service and atmosphere: I have been to this diner more than a few times, including before its most recent change into this version of the diner. I really liked the food bars from the previous iteration, but I do not miss them much. What I like most about Town Diner is the style of the service. Each of the waitstaff have a bubbly, friendly personality that they give you a glimpse of. My servers have been friendly, quick witted, and funny there. I always feel well-served. I also love the people watching and community interactions I've observed there. I would not go so far as to call it an old-world cafe, but there is definitely a vibe of community and creativity there. If I have a complaint it's this: Too many TVs, wrong content for diner viewers (politics), and the music station (we typically get seated under the easy-listening music speaker competing with the TV speakers). I should learn to ask to have it turned down or off when we are among the few participants. The food. Everyone who goes can try the complimentary garlic knots. Such a simple thing: give hungry people something delicious to munch on. I think every time I have decided to go there, it was in no small part to those garlic knots - soft, warm, fresh, pretzel-like, full of garlic butter and salt. The free serving for two was 12 knots. A feast in itself. And the coffee is very good. The pancakes (about 10 varieties) are legit crack. I'm not sure if I prefer the cornbread style cakes or the multigrain cakes, but either of them will do - fluffy, flavorful, texturally satisfying, and never too sweet. I have also had their Monte Cristo, the jersey diner staple for the truly decadent - real turkey and ham with cheese on french toast with a side of syrup. It's a truly elevated ham and cheese. They do it well, and I have a hard time not liking a kitchen that handles the dish with care (e.g. real turkey breast, carved). I have also had their desserts -- a black forest cake or chocolate cream pie comes to mind as a standout. Well done jersey diner style desserts. You have to get the baking right, and they do. Have visited this diner about five times. The first breakfast i found them decent and reasonable but on my re-visit i ordered a substitute for my toast. Having a bagel instead with cream cheese. Was charged $2.95 extra on the check. When i questioned that price, i was told the bagel charge would have been $.55 with butter, but $2.95 for a bagel with cream cheese. I guess i need to get a second mortgage to eat at this diner. They redecorated the diner from its past owners and it seems very clean and impressive. The dinners that i have had were not so impressive. I tried the leg of lamb. It tasted old with freezer burn and came without a choice of sides. You got what they gave you. Which in this case was nasty mash potatoes and mixed veges. No bread was offered with the meal. Not very impressed with dinner. But i will return for breakfast. read more

I absolutely love Town Diner! I am new to this area and a complete sucker for diners, but this one is amazing. I've been a few times now and everything I've gotten has been delicious. Their mozarella sticks are great, the French Onion soup is one of the BEST I've ever had, and even the desserts are great. My favorite dessert is their Apple Streusel Cheesecake.. Even better than it sounds! I also tried their Triple Decker Turkey Club and the turkey on it was so thick and fresh it was great. But hands down my favorite thing I have tried is their NY Deli sandwiches. I had the pastrami one with jalapenos and it's great. Almost forgot that they have battered french fries... mmm amazing. Absolute 10/10 they have a HUGE menu and I'm looking forward to trying more. read more

This diner has a lot of potential, with a fairly extensive menu of diner favorites with some unique options. That said my first experience here did not live up to potential. Came for breakfast on Sunday and was surprised by the lack of a wait, were seated very promptly. Sat for some time without anyone coming to ask is about drinks/order. Eventually another waitress asked if we had been helped and we waited some more for our actual server. Took a long time to get coffee, said he would bring cream and sugar, never did, had to ask another server. Food was decent, but they forgot the hollandaise sauce on one of our omelets. Toast also did not arrive with the meal and took some time to get. I personally had the salmon Benedict. Good flavors overall, but hashbrowns were way under done. We decided to try Town Diner after watching its identity change. It was, at one time, the Clairmont, where we dined many times. The Town Diner is tastefully and comfortably refurbished. We were told it had been renovated as a steak house that did not succeed. We were especially happy with the chairs at the tables, which were nicely padded and comfortable. Overall the ambience is a cut above your average New Jersey Diner. However, they have avoided developing delusions of grandeur: their menu is not hotsy totsy and has many of the items we have come to expect and love. One of us had fish and chips that were fresh-tasting and crisp. Instead of fries, we requested a substitution of mashed potatoes.They were delicious. On the slightly negative side, the rolls were ruined by the unnecessary application of salt, and the obligatory cup of cole slaw was on the soggy side. The other of us had the Fisherman's roll, which had a beautiful piece of well broiled and fresh-tasting salmon. We asked for something as a substitute for the potatoes, and received, instead, a generous and crisp salad. Our server was friendly, timely, and knowledgeable. Upon arriving on a Friday morning, the hostess greeted us and brought us to a table which was more than enough space away from anybody else eating. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Drinks and food came in a very timely manner and we were back on the road in no time. The pros -fast service -food came even faster (we were the second table) -friendly staff The cons -food was rather bland. I wouldn't say it was good nor bad but just bland all in all. -food wasn't all warm some items were hot while other meat items were warm or slightly above room temp. Food for thought.... If it's in the middle of the night and you don't have a crazy high bar for your food stop here. The food wasn't the best but the service was extremely fast and I was eating before I knew it. After looking at so many positive reviews, I was very excited to try their corn meal pancakes as well as their french toast. Too bad I almost died after eating there. After taking a few bites of their french toast (which, for the record, did not have "includes nuts" in its menu description) I began feeling the effects of an allergic reaction coming on. My friend, who was eating with me and is not allergic to nuts, affirmed my suspicions by saying it indeed tasted nutty. When I spoke to my waiter, he assured me that it is not made with any nuts or nut products, and later repeated this after apparently speaking with the chef. This causes me to believe that the food was contaminated with nuts, which in itself indicates unsafe cleaning and/or food preparation techniques. About an hour later, back at home, I was experiencing such severe symptoms (the most severe allergic reaction I have ever experienced, for that matter) that I had to be rushed to the ER. Was very disappointed that an institution which seems to have received much praise by its customers could actually be a danger and a health risk. After speaking to the owner over the phone, I received repeated "I don't know what happened" and "All I can do is apologize". Well, apologies mean nothing after a serious health issue has arisen. I rarely leave reviews for restaurants but I felt this needed to be put out there. I wish the site would let me post this review with 0 stars, but it seems I must give it a 1 star rating. Zero stars. I ordered a tuna melt. Told them I was severely allergic to tomato. They took my sandwich back. Instead of making a new one they took the tomatoes and cheese off then put new cheese on it. It came back so quickly that I decided to peel the cheese back. There was still tomato in the sandwich. It was okay. The waitress was nice enough, though I asked for milk with my coffee and she brought a bowl of creamers, but I did not specify milk instead of creamer. When asked again, she nicely and quickly brought me some milk. The hollandaise on my eggs Benedict appeared to be from two different batches. One was covered with a much too thick -and curdled- sauce. The other was okay, but neither had much flavor. No lemon. The English muffin did not appear to be toasted, and it wasn't buttered. The Canadian bacon on the Benedict was really just thinly sliced country ham, which I like, but it wasn't Canadian bacon. I do like their breakfast potatoes. My friend had the farmer's omelet and though we didn't discuss it, she seemed to enjoy it. The waitress remembered we were drinking decaf and she refilled without us having to ask. This diner was a nice place to go for lunch following a meeting. I was one of 3 in our party. I had two problems. The major one was, the menu is not accessible to a blind person like me. Most eating places now have their menus on the Internet in an accessible format. This diner does not. The smaller issue concerned the TexMex burger I had. I felt there was too much bread and not enough content. Of the content there was, the chorizo was better than any I've had in some time. Normally you have to go to a Mexican place to get good chorizo and this area lacks good Mexican places. The service was friendly and quick without making us feel rushed. My wife and I went there for dinner. Half way through my dinner found hair in my dish. I notified my waitress and she did notice the hair in my dish. She said "I am very sorry about that" Let me get the check for you. I revived the check for the full amount of my meal. I went cashier to pay. Cashier asked how was everything? We've been here a couple of times and this is the first review. Previous experience was better but this one turned me off to them. I ordered the chicken pannini, it was supposed to be blackened chicken. Came out with sliced, processed cold cut chicken that was given a quick grill. I cannot have processed meats due to allergies and it's a good thing I noticed before eating. After pointing it out to our waitress she said I must have gotten someone else's meal. When I finally received the correct one the chicken was nasty. Tasted like it went from the freezer to to griddle and there was no blackened seasoning. I only ate half.
