The food is terrible, they have a dirty looking waitress that has faded tatoos on her arms, the ceiling is brown and ready to fall down, another so-called waitress has her green car parked in the back of the diner that is filled with garbage, the counter chairs are not comfortable and feel like each one is broken, the prices are way to high, they use smelly dish rags to clean counters and tables, the place is rather dirty overall. $13.00 for a cup of coffe and two eggs!!! I visited this location today 12/26/2025. These prices reflect Joe Biden's inflation and there has been no adjustment to the new cost of eggs. I purchased a dozen of eggs recently for 229 at the local Shop rite, the price that this diner is charging they're making about $96. off a carton of three dollar eggs at Best Not to mention how small the eggs were, couldn't fill a cavity. I was very disappointed it comes with life in in New Jersey. We probably have some of the stupidest voters ever they keep voting in Democrats and then then they want to complain that Trump hasn't lowered costs or inflation. Golden Down is simplicity itself -- stellar service, compact menu and well prepared comfort food that's truly a credit to the "diner" breed. Since it is closeby, I made the trek up after work for dinner. When I arrived at the Golden Dawn Diner around 6 pm on a Saturday, it was crowded. By 7 pm, there was a wait. Clearly, the Golden Dawn Diner is a popular spot. Atmosphere: A The Golden Dawn Diner is an old school building. It's not a big, shiny, metallic diner, but it is older looking. The inside has plenty of booths, a full-length bar, and a dessert case too. I liked the interesting window design that separated many of the booths. Coffee: The coffee at the Golden Dawn Diner in Hamilton was good, but nothing to write home about. Food: Of the restaurants in Hamilton, NJ, the menu at Golden Dawn Diner has everything you want or need in a diner. There are plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and a full page of specials.  They brought out a bread basket which came with regular dinner rolls as well as cornbread. The cornbread was delicious. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, so I decided to order the Guacamole Bacon Burger. I haven't seen that option before at a diner. The Guacamole Bacon Burger came with a lot of Guacamole. While it wasn't fancy or unique, it was a lot. The burger itself was excellent, and the french fries were usual streak fries at a diner. The meal itself was delicious. Service: The waitress was friendly, and my food came out quickly. I couldn't have asked for a better waitress at the Golden Dawn Diner. Golden Dawn spent nearly 2 years closed during the pandemic. They did not take advantage of that time and lift a rag to clean anything or paint anything, or make repairs. The Golden Dawn is exactly what you could want in a diner. Just had a fantastic breakfast here. I ordered a bacon and American cheese omelette which was massive, stuffed, and absolutely delicious. It also came with a generous serving of hash browns and toast. All for around 13$. The food came out at a speed that would be incredible for a slow restaurant, let alone the busy one that I had I visited. Our waitress was Stella who was so friendly, kind, and attentive. I've been going to Golden Dawn pretty much since it first opened in the 80's. Always went there after the clubs closed at night, and then after "The Dawn" shortened their hours, been coming in for dinner about twice a month. The food is great and there's been a variety of servers over the years, but I remember all of them as being great, very friendly, and its nice to come to a familiar place where you'll see people you know and enjoy. they have a very extensive menu, and I can recommend the eggplant parm, among other things. read more

The eggplant was fried and freshly made as a side with tomato sauce.Turkey was moist and tender, stuffing really good, gravy and cranberry sauce. This place used to be renowned years ago but not now. I went there with my brother and both our orders had to get sent back, which is something I do not normally do. The French toast had an odd spice to it, maybe nutmeg, but it was not tasty and off-putting according to my brother. I ordered the manhattan rueben and that tasted awful! I think the pastrami was old and had that funky taste. I could not eat it. The waitress was kind and understanding and took the two orders back. I felt bad so I decided to order a cheeseburger figuring that would be safe. I had lost my appetite from the Reuben and decided to take the untouched burger and fries home for my son. He said the meal tasted good but as he ate it, he noticed a bug crawling in the container. I'm thinking it was from the unwashed lettuce perhaps. Anyhow, it was a very bad experience from start to finish. I did leave a tip for the server as it wasn't her fault. Not going back there again. Generally I have had good experiences with a golden dawn. Their breakfast is excellent and most things I have tried are good. However tonight I ordered prime rib and it tasted like an over cooked piece of London broil. Had decent flavor but it was a horrible cut of meat. If you're looking for that classic New Jersey diner experience, look no further. I've been here plenty of times, but at this visit we went on a Sunday morning around 9am. The place was already packed but we only waited about 10 minutes. If you're looking for a fancy place, this is not it. Golden Dawn is a casual fast paced diner with all of your classic breakfast favorites. No frills. I love this place, and will definitely be coming back. The coffee, soups and cobb salad were bland. Lots of dressing, salt and pepper were needed to resurrect our meals from the dark side. Our almost $20 'steak' salad had more soggy fat and gristle in it than steak. The actual steak fragments themselves, when they could be located, were rather chewy and unappetizing. Our waitress was good, thus saving this review from being a single star. The place was nearly deserted for a Saturday afternoon, which should have been a tip-off to turn tail and flee the area, but we were hungry after a long morning. Used to drop in for breakfast several times a week and an occasional lunch or dinner. Also, I am part of a men's breakfast group that has been meeting here for the past two years. Suddenly management changed their policy of each guy ordering from the menu and receiving a separate check, to a minimum charge of $12 with a $2 tip added on. It's always good to start with the positives, and in this case it would be the portion sizes. However, the food was such poor quality where the chicken was extremely fatty, the burger which was supposed to be medium rare but could have mooed as it was barely cooked makes it such a miserable meal that it doesn't help to have generous portions. And the waitress was simply awful. She may have had good intentions, but when she said "I'd get you a root beer refill, but the dispenser is one the other side of the restaurant so you'll have to wait", her complaints about back pain and her preference to give some tables bread but not ours, you know not to go here for anything resembling a good meal. Good experience! Norma was our server and she was great. Big portions. Highly recommend the pork roll sandwich. Had one of the lunch specials and it was delicious. The order comes with 2 sides and soup! Couldn't finish it all. The chicken noodle was excellent. The Golden Dawn is our local diner choice when we're not schlepping to Pat's in Trenton, the Princetonian on Rte.1 or It's Nutts out on the Delaware. They're always dependable with solid food and service. Nothing spectacular, no amazing special foods, but reliable, everyday grub at a good price. However, all that changed this last weekend when my wife ordered home fries with her eggs, and instead of the usual mundane pile of potato pieces, they brought her out real, honest-to-god, hash browns. When I quizzed the waitress on this miracle, she started apologizing for the potatoes. I tried to explain to her how hash browns are at the very top of the breakfast potato food chain and all but impossible to find in the hash brown desert of the tri-state area, but she was too freaked out by my freaking out and ran away after I ordered a side of hash browns for myself. In the meantime, I traded out half of my chunky fries for my wife's hash browns and gobbled them down. They were crispy brown on the outside like all good hash browns should be, and for a moment my spirit found itself on the other side of the Mississippi again. Extra star, BAM. Let me preface this by saying I'm probably the only person from NJ that doesn't like diners. I just can't get on board with them for so many reasons. I guess we got what we were looking for - quick breakfast before Grounds for Sculpture. The good: got sat fast, and the food came out reallllly quick. The waitress was really nice. The bad: the hollandaise on the eggs Benedict was weird. It was really bright yellow. The Canadian bacon was thick and didn't even come close to covering the entire muffin. Taste was okay though. The hashbrowns were barely cooked. When we told the waitress this just as like a comment she said she knows that, but the turnover rate is so high that they don't let them cook long enough. Superb diner with a great and affordable menu. One of my favorite places to eat while in the Hamilton Square area. The daily specials include a light eats menu which are smaller portions for a cheaper price. They make a variety of foods and seem to do a good job of making all of them well. Most diners tend to only make a few things good. My biggest disappointment with Golden Dawn would be their lack of French Onion Soup. To me, this is a diner staple and a soup I look forward to eating at a diner. Horribleee I mean HORRENDOUS service. A group of friends were going to do a meeting at the diner. We received our drinks and the manager comes up to us and says " it's the wrong time to come here and do work we need the table for our customers". Basically saying get out of here. I was so appauled. I have never been treated that way. At that moment we paid our tab and left. Not hospitable at all. I am telling all my friends about this because this is not how a restaurant treats their paying customers. Dont come here!!! Just simply horrible.
