I hate to write a bad review and almost never do, but our experience at this Mother's Day brunch was so disappointing on a day that is very significant for many people, I felt it was important to provide honest feedback. Town Meeting Bistro is a beautiful space in lovely historic Lexington. This brunch had three seatings. We arrived a few minutes early for the second seating (at 12) to a long line and a 20 minute wait to be seated. Our table was lovely. The brunch included a buffet appetizer/dessert component and a plated entrée from their menu. The buffet portion was extremely disappointing, they advertised a decadent spread, including oysters, etc., but it was a very modest assortment of things (no oysters, a bowl of cocktail shrimp that was empty most of the time). I waited 10 minutes for them to refill empty bagel baskets (and asked a server) before giving up. The desserts were not impressive, fruit bowl was smaller than what I serve at family gatherings. But most notably, there was a constant very long line at the buffet and most items were continuously empty (even buffet plates were unavailable twice). There was no children's menu despite it obviously being an event that catered to families with children. There was an advertised bouquet activity for children, but by the second seating, the flowers were very picked over and the bouquet apparently only allowed for "three stems". Brunch did come with a mimosa, which was nice, but service was very slow (no fault of the server, just the chaotic and presumably understaffed set up). There were issues with two of the dishes that we ordered (one was the wrong omelette, another was the wrong dish altogether). None of this would have been bad review worthy, except that the price per person was $130! For that I expected much better quality, variety, set up and overall experience. They did acknowledge the mistakes with the entrées and comped a cocktail so I appreciated that, but definitely will not return (and am embarrassed that I was the one who picked this option for this special family event as no one left feeling good about it). read more

Our trip to the Town Meeting Bistro was kind of an accident! It was more upscale than we planned when we decided to get some grub before the Lafayette in America event - but it was a nice accident. The restaurant is in an inn and just being in the building is a pleasure. We went in the front door and asked where the restaurant was and had the pleasure of being lead to the back of the building through colorful rooms with vintage inspired wall paper. The green cameos on the front halls wallpaper were fuzzy!! The bathrooms were also a freaking delight. Great wall paper everywhere. The dining room was very beautiful with high back chairs and a fire place. They also offered dining on the porch which was really beautiful too - the inn is not secluded by any means, but there wasn't an overbearing amount of traffic, so the porch would probably be lovely. We ate inside though. My husband tried to go light and healthy with claim chowder and the seasonal vegetable. He also got an espresso. I just went ahead and got the burger with the salad. The burger came with homemade pickles which were pretty tasty. The salad had green tomatoes which were very interesting. All around I had a great meal. They also have an excellent selection of cocktails. I had a hard time choosing. but I ended up with the Rose Gold which featured some awesome rose gin. I love anything that tastes floral and this made me super happy. Also, plus points for the paper straw! Our waitress was also excellent and had a really warm persona. AND they were playing all my late 60's early 70's jams. I had a super pleasant time even if we didn't get the breakfast we were hoping for. The restaurant is walking distance from the historical sites downtown and great for a special experience or treat. Would love to see the rest of the inn some day. read more

We decided to do a nice dinner last night and went to Town Meeting Bistro to avoid the traffic and rush of going somewhere in the city. The restaurant is set inside a classic hotel. When we walked into the hotel, there was no one at the check stand, and we eventually made our way through the bar to the restaurant's host stand. When you step into the main dining room, everything is awash with muted blues and grays--my scarf matched the color scheme pretty well, ha! We both ordered the kobacha (squash) soup, which was really quite delicious. It would've benefited from some sort of dippable bread or carb item, but it was very flavorful. The curry was definitely present without being overpronounced. I had the braised lamb neck, which came with glazed carrots and couscous. I order lamb all the time but had never ordered lamb neck specifically--I was pleased to find that it was tender and they gave a very generous portion! It tasted rather like a home-cooked meal. The harissa couscous was a nice complement. This dish just worked really well. For dessert, we shared the lemon posset, which is sort of like pot de creme. The lavender shortbread was really nice; I actually could've just had more of the shortbread by itself. The negative comes on the service front. We waited 35 minutes after being seated for our server to take our meal order and bring bread (their house bread is Parker House rolls, which were pretty standard Parker House rolls). After a while, we genuinely thought we had been forgotten about because it took over half an hour for our cocktails to arrive, and the restaurant was not full. However, I did enjoy The Ellen, a blackberry liquor-based cocktail, although the apple cidery "The Temptation" drink was too sweet for me. It was sort of strange because our server came to drop the menus and take our drink order and we didn't see her over a half hour. This was really the only negative of the meal, although since it was inching toward the hour mark before we received our appetizers, it was a pretty big ding. Hotel restaurant for the Inn at Hastings Park, located in a historical area and sporting a modern meets New England decor. The menu is American/New England, with a curated selection of standard and straight forward dishes. However, they didn't have two of the dishes I ordered. No hanger steak, and then no filet mignon. Finally just settled on roasted chicken; wife ordered the Long Island duck. We opted to start with half a dozen local oysters. They were shucked and served properly - kudos to the kitchen. And they were super clean and fresh tasting - yum! As for the entrees, both were excellent; fresh, local ingredients cooked perfectly. Delish! Couple minor issues: first, the initial glass of sparkling wine - high-end and well-known California selection - was served basically flat. They went back and the second glass was full of bubbles and had obviously just been opened. They definitely need to keep an eye on sparkling wine; can't serve it after it's been sitting there for hours and getting flat. We then ordered a bottle of French wine (Chateauneuf du Pape), and, of course, the waitress seemed to not fully know the wine list. At a Relais and Château property, the staff should be fully trained on the wine offerings. However, she served the wine properly, and certainly deserves points for that. On a side note, a couple of times I noticed the wait staff come out to serve food, and wander around, not knowing exactly where they were going. Again, there may be a bit of a management and training issue that needs correction here. Service is certainly not "high end" - although it is polite and friendly. Overall, the food is excellent and well crafted, and the overall experience solid. Worth a stop. read more

The service was friendly and on pointe, offering a complementary glass of bubbles for our anniversary. The space is open and intimate, you can hear each other and not feel crowded by the other tables. Cocktails were perfectly balanced.The oysters were amazing. The monk fish is firm and a little sweet like lobster, the duck was divine and beautifully medium rare. We had never even heard of vinegar pie, it was great! Town meeting bistro is at the Inn at Hastings Park and is a beautiful space. We made reservations for brunch on a Saturday which consists of a 4 course menu. First course is shared pastries, oysters, fruit and a cheese plate. I ordered an avocado toast and a mushroom omelette and an assortment of mini cookies, tarts and cupcakes was brought out for dessert. Overall for the price, the food and experience was average. Before we had time to settle and order drinks the first course was brought out, without anyone checking for food allergies or restrictions. The cappuccino was warm not hot. Our food took about an hour to come out and our server had forgotten numerous things like another person in our party's food and their drink. She had come out with the side that had been requested as we were getting up to leave. She had also walked out with a mouthful of food while asking us if our food was good. Not to mention the food, we had gotten eggs Benedict and corn beef, was not very good. The corn beef was grisly and the eggs on the Benedict were hard and overcooked. We would not have know about this place if not for the gift card won at an auction. The dining room has a soothing blend of revolutionary America with modern touches like the padding ceiling that acted as sound buffers. The meal was throughly delicious. Generous portion of trout pate, fresh grilled apples arugula salad with fresh Parker house rolls. My duck breast was perfect - pink and moist with incredibly crispy skin. My Husband loved his steak with chimichurri sauce. Service was friendly and professional. We booked the Thanksgiving buffet based on our enjoyable meal experience. Will be back for sure read more

The afternoon tea experience and atmosphere were fantastic. The tea was great, but then the food was disappointing. The menu was inaccurate, and the portion sizes were extremely small. The finger sandwiches were actually cut in half in order to make the serving for 2 people - I've had standard finger sandwiches in England and they're twice the size. Substitutions and additional scones could not be requested, though additional tea was included. This would have been acceptable except for the price. There is an unfortunate expectation that tea is fancy so it can be exorbitantly expensive - this meal was not work $65 per person. I think $40 or $45 per person would have been acceptable - it is still high enough that it recognizes the high end service and atmosphere, but better represents the portion sizes. read more

This was our first visit. We had an amazing lunch for two that was delightful and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. The Marquis de Lafayette cocktail is smooth and sophisticated. It's a great way to begin your meal. We ordered the cheese board and smoked bluefish pate for starters followed by the arctic char that has a perfect crispy skin on top. The service was very attentive and allows you to be as quick or leisurely as you wish. The portions are not large but appropriate for lunch. The quality and flavor are exceptional. This is a comfortable colonial boutique inn. We were very tempted to get a room, take a rest, and return for dinner. Perhaps next time. There will definitely be a next time. read more

YUM. I could just leave my review at that, but I won't. First of all, my friend & I sat on the wrap-around porch on a lovely fall afternoon. It was ideal - could not have been a more pleasant setting. Second of all, the service is great. Our waitress was attentive (other than forgetting my friend's coffee, which came eventually - and which my friend said wasn't good. Only negative thing) and nice. We even had the manager stop by once or twice. Third of all, the food!! I couldn't decide what to get (even though it's a super small lunch menu), so my friend & I split the burger & fries and the Caesar salad. Both were so delicious. And the rolls? OMG. I went to Town Meeting Bistro for afternoon tea with several friends with high hopes, but unfortunately we were disappointed overall. The tea selection was very limited; there was only one decaf option, and although there were cute steeping timers on the table that we were instructed to use depending on whether we wanted the tea to be light, medium, or strong, by the time the tea was brought to our table it had already been steeping for several minutes. The food menu looked promising, but asking for vegetarian options seemed to confuse the server, even though when I made the booking I'd specified that one of our members was vegetarian; the server seemed thrown by that request, and clearly hadn't been informed of it ahead of time. Portion sizes overall were very small. Flavor-wise, the tea sandwiches were quite bland. The coronation chicken was the most flavorful of the bunch, and basically reached the level of "ok". Cucumber sandwiches are always delicate, but these had no flavor, or apparently any seasoning, whatsoever. Additionally, the edges of some of the sandwiches were dry, indicating the sandwiches had not been made to order. The good news about the ginger scones is that they had very good flavor and texture, probably the tastiest baked good on the plate, and the lemon curd to go on top was delicious. The bad news is that the scones were about the size of a half dollar (smaller than an oreo), and there was one tiny scone per person. I've had afternoon tea in at least a dozen different places, and sometimes they serve one scone, often two, but the standard size is generally about three inches across. The other pastries were of varying quality; the flavors tended to be ok, but overall either the cake, or the frosting, or both were dense and heavy, not light and fluffy. The one exception was the carrot cake, which everyone in our group enjoyed. Additionally, other physical details were not good: the area under the table was dirty, parts of the table were sticky, and the handle of the honey pitcher was also sticky. If this tea had been around $30 per person, we would have thought it was adequate; for almost $85 pp including tax and tip, our group was very, very unimpressed. We will not be returning. read more

I booked a one night stay at the Inn for my husband's birthday - a quick birthday surprise getaway about 30 minutes from home. Having the restaurant just one minute from our room seemed perfect and after looking at the menu, I had really high hopes. The Inn is wonderful and the service of everyone there is great but the restaurant just did not live up to the standards of the rest of the inn. The service was incredibly slow. Everything from putting in our order, getting our drinks, and then waiting an hour before getting our oysters (first piece of food to be brought out), just completely ruined our dining experience. We had a great time together but were very annoyed at how difficult it was to get anyone's attention and how slow the whole dinner was moving. There were guests who arrived after us and received their entrees before we did. A big table next to us also received basically all of the attention - for about 20-30 minutes it seemed like all of the waiters were bringing all sorts of things only to that table. Weird. We would not dine here again - maybe the older guests at the restaurant don't mind sitting at dinner for 2.5 hours, leisurely waiting for food to be brought out with no particular urgency. We did mind, especially because we didn't order anything complicated - oysters, beet salad, cheese plate, and 2 plates of salmon. We'll spend 2.5 hours at a restaurant enjoying a tasting menu but definitely not waiting for some basic appetizers and some salmon. Maybe we wouldn't be as annoyed with the wait if the food was something special. It wasn't... The clientele here did seem to all be over the age of 60 so potentially we simply were not their target audience. Food - average, service - below average, atmosphere - kind of boring and average, the inn - amazing and deserves 6 stars. read more

I am giving this establishment a TERRIBLE rating for customer service. I have dined with Town Meeting Bistro many times. I love the atmosphere and the food. However I booked a table for 2 several weeks ago to dine with a friend from out of town. Just 2 days before the reservation I got a call telling me that they can not honor my reservation because they booked a few private parties after me and now they can only offer a seating outside. The forecast is for 40 degrees and rain!!! If they have tables booked, then they shouldn't take a private party AND they need to give more notice than 48 hours if they need to cancel a customer's reservation. I asked several times if they could find a way to squeeze us in but they refused. It appears that they don't value loyal, repeat customers! read more

Easy to get a week night reservation, the place was warm and inviting. The Inn was absolutely stunning - I am sure this would be a great place to stay. We started with a cocktail and enjoyed that on the large porch outside. When we were ready for dinner, we sauntered in to find that these people are passionate about using fresh, seasonal ingredients for all their dishes. Our waitress was friendly and quite capable, making sure that we were never in need of anything. The appetizer of pickled beets with goat cheese and pears were divine. The entrée was not quite as good, The lamb was tough, with lots of gristle. Wines by the glass are available to pair with the meal. Parking available in their lot. read more

Would like to give 2.5 stars, but this was not available. We went today for lunch. The food, a burger and a zuchinni/quinoa w/chicken salad, was flavorless. When I order a burger, I expect it to taste "beefy", this one, although of decent size, was nondescript and the fries, although served hot, were the same - insipid. My wife's salad suffered from the same malaise, no flavor. At best 2 stars for the food, and at this price point, should have been much better. The service was fine. They seemed pretty busy serving a large party, but truthfully, no complaints here. We sat on the porch, which was lovely. It was a nice day, and even though hot, it was comfortable and breezy. This is a lovey little restaurant in our beautiful town hotel. It's a large open space that has been tastefully decorated with a modern colonial feel. We came here for a date night dinner and it had been some time since we last came so we thought let's come again. First and foremost, the food is delicious. Every single thing we ordered was cooked to perfection and the presentation detail was spot on. The staff were also good and so nice. I would recommend each waiter or waitress trying everything on the menu. I had the soup and the waitress couldn't tell me what it was or what it was like. I ordered it anyway and it was really delish! I would really like to give the restaurant 4.5 stars instead of 4 but it misses 5 stars due to the space itself. It's very open and it's very loud and I couldn't hear the music at all. The ceiling does have noise minimizers, but since that has probably worked a bit it may be worth putting down rugs or thinking about dividing up the space with low walls to keep it open but to separate diners. You can hear everything the table next to you is saying and this could help that a lot. Otherwise this is a nice restaurant, perfect for a date, and perfect for people who love great food! read more

We loved it! We went for lunch. Since our anniversary is so close to Valentine's Day, we opted for a lunch on a less busy day. Food was phenomenal (We had Caesar Salad with White Anchovies, a Burger, and Hot Lobster roll.) We're light eaters; it was all we could do from gobbling the warm Parker House rolls and ruining our appetite. lol Caesar salad was rich and delicious. Cocktails were perfect. French fries which accompanied our really yummy burger and lobster roll were plentiful and perfect. Burger was high quality beef, and lobster roll was everything you need and nothing you don't. Lobster. Roll. Butter. Yum. Service was amazing, without being overly solicitous. The decor blends the best of an old New England Inn, with the more modern open space concept. Tables are well spaced, and the fireplace (even tho it is a gas type one) generated nice warmth. A limited menu with everything done extremely well, IMHO. Parking was easy in the small lot. This is also not the busy part of Mass Ave. The handicap ramp would make it easy for anyone who needed to navigate the building in that way. This place was on our radar because we had read about their outdoor dining in geodesic domes. The domes are larger than we'd realized (hence, the $120 "experience fee" makes more sense.) Seems like that could be fun for 2 or 3 couples +/- others. There is also dining available on the porch area out front, with built in heaters. Note on the menu: "For your convenience, a food and beverage administrative fee of 18% will be placed on your check to compensate our service team. This fee is not a tip, gratuity, or service charge." Holy vagueness batman. So what is it? I called to ask and was told that the server gets part of it and some of it is used to compensate the server for wages that would otherwise be lower. They aren't any more specific than that, so who knows how much more than the tipped-wage minimum the servers receive. When asked at the restaurant, the server said it was not an added gratuity. If the restaurant is going with a non-tipping/real wage for servers, they should explain that. As it was, my party added a tip beyond that charge, which I think was probably unnecessary(?). Maybe think of it like France. You aren't expected to tip, but if service was good, you add the equivalent of a dollar or two. The meal itself was very good. read more

I've eaten here twice over the course of two years and both times the menu was sparse and uninspired, with poorly executed and bland food. The service was ok, very willing to accommodate both gluten and dairy allergies, however my sandwich came out with cheese the first time, and burnt the second. Additionally it seemed that the omelette we ordered had been sitting there while they made my sandwich, so it was cold by the time it got to us. I hope they can turn it around by right now it's a hard pass. read more

Excellent meal and service. Atmosphere was warm and cozy and seat by the fire place was nice on a cold winter evening. Opened in 2014 this restaurant is fresh and new while the decor honors historic colonial Lexington. Cocktails are creative and tasty. The "Shot Heard Round The World" was their version of a spicy margarita. If you want salt on rim, just ask. Manhattan, traditionally made, was nicely cold and served with a deliciously marinated cherry. I always opt for bourbon in my Manhattans. Good wine and beer selection. Glass of house Chamisal Chardonnay paired nicely with Cod having fruity notes and clean flavors being aged in stainless rather than oak. Both hostess and waitress were pleasant and professional. Started with a cheese board that was nicely appointed with a beautiful selection of hard and soft cheese and accompanied by crostini, nuts and fruit. Soup and salads were on point. Arugula salad was simple but full of flavor with a white balsamic vinaigrette, kalamata olives, artichokes and goat cheese that was grated which made a surprising light touch to the salad. Recommend trying Trisha's tasting menu. Rack of lamb was part of the tasting menu which was just a perfect rack nicely and expertly frenched - a little on the rare side at first, the dish came back completely remade to our liking. From the entrees menu, the Cod was nicely pan seared with a broth that was accentuated with tarragon oil giving it a bright uplifting taste. Don't forget to order a side. We ordered one for two of us which was plenty, but if you have a hearty appetite, order two or more and share them! Dessert was phenomenal. My favorite was the Town Meeting S'Mores which was perfectly elevated to a sophisticated dessert while maintaining all the same flavors. So good! This is a place for all occasions and something you could go to on a date night, casual dinner or when it reopens just hang out at the bar. Take out with cocktails are available. Last I wanted to note that Trisha Pérez Kennealy, the owner, was walking around the dining room engaging with her guests. It was nice to see the interaction and can tell that her attention to detail and excellence permeates the entire operation. We dined at this new restaurant in Lexington tonite. The food is absolutely superb ! We shared a pappardelle pasta dish for an appetizer and then had the scallops and the chicken for our entrees. The scallops were outstanding, perfectly cooked and a really great combination with the lobster stew. For dessert we had a chocolate pave with a really spectacular salted caramel ice cream, I almost had to lick the plate...that's how good it was ! The restaurant is located inside the new Inn at Hastings Park, a very beautifully decorated colonial inn not far from the Lexington Center. The service was really friendly and welcoming. This is a really impressive place, both the food, and the decoration. I really can't wait to come again and explore more of the menu. read more

The restaurant is part of the Inn at Hastings Park in Lexington on Mass Ave. We almost missed it as the sign said it was an Inn. We entered this cozy and elegant colonial home that had been beautifully renovated. We ordered and shared a pumpkin soup which was very tasty and spiced with something that tasted like small bits of persimmons. I had their lobster Cobb salad and my hubby had the seafood bouillabaisse. The salad was lightly dressed which brought out the delicate flavors of grape tomatoes, avocado, blue cheese, bacon and lobster. The fish and PEI mussels on the bouillabaisse were perfectly cooked and the broth was absolutely delicious! We were very satisfied with our meal and plan to return the next time we are back in Massachusetts. read more

Wait staff were young, but very friendly, enthusiastic and attentive. The dinner menu is fairly traditional, but done very well. The desserts are excellent. The duck entree was excellent.
