Ordered some take out a couple weeks ago from them. First impression was not a great one honestly. I wanted a sub, I look on the menu and it clearly states any sand which can be made into a sub for an extra fee. So i call and say I want a turkey club on a sub roll. The lady on the phone almost insulted states "have you tried calling a pizza place?" ...I replied with ummm no I haven't, your menu says you offer subs right on it. Well she tells me the menu has changed. I asked what I could get my sandwich on. She tells me a bulky roll. I figure ok fine and order it. I was really tempted after this to just go to a pizza shop out of spite. Well I got the sandwich. And it was actually pretty good! It was a huge turkey club, tender turkey, Massive pieces of bacon, and fries and onion rings to boot. I'll probably be back for another, maybe with a beer or two! Foodwise, its processed, low to medium quality ingredients and nothing special. I got the sirloin steak with baked potato and veggies. Sirloin was a low quality, grissly and chewy... lots of fat. Meat cut was most likely a top round, not a sirloin. Veggies were waterlogged and seemed as if they'd been in a holding warmer in the kitchen for at least 24 hours... and the baked potato also seemed as if it had been prepared previously and warmed up. For the price however, you get what you pay for.... $12 for a steak, potato and veggies is cheap anywhere! Beer was cold.... atmosphere is rustic country... pine boards, eclectic collection of signage and what not adorn the walls. Plainly put, will I go back...probably not, Id rather drive a little further to Baileys! read more

It's a tavern, and it does its job very well. That said don't expect anything a true tavern wouldn't deliver. Portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable. Service was standard. This place is comfort food and generous portions at a fair price. The ten dollar meals on Monday and Tuesday can't be profitable but they sure are great. The burger here is one of the best burgers around. Huge Patty cooked perfect and topped with your choice. The bacon is a must, lots of flavor in a thick slice. Come on down and grab a chair. Get a French onion soup or crispy salad. Prime rib, clams, chicken parmesan or any meal will do. Plenty of food at a fair price. read more

Seems the place is going downhill. Service outright sucks for the most part. Expect to be forgotten about and ignored unless you're the loud boisterous type. There are a couple awesome waitresses... maybe we'll have to get their schedules! Food is hit or miss lately... I've had orders come out cold, wrong, and just never at all. Cuts of chicken and turkey are fatty and cheap. They dropped the local beer on tap, Wachusett, and replaced it with the new fad; Yuengling which is just another name for Budweiser. Dunno... really sucks as this used to be our favorite spot for dinner. Three stars still for that food that comes out just right. Someone back there hasn't given up... sigh. read more

What a dump! I have driven past this place many times, but tonight, I thought I'd stop in for a drink and maybe a bite to eat. Upon entering the lounge, I was greeted by the oldest, lamest decor I have seen in a long, long time. I sat at the bar and ordered a simple drink, which the bartender messed up. When I questioned him about it, he corrected it, but with a healthy dose of attitude. I picked up the menu. Once this dirty, disgusting thing slid through my fingers and rested on the equally gross bartop, I was able to read a tired, out-dated, very lame menu. That was enough. I tried to settle up the bar tab, and was again met with attitude from the bartender. What a dump. Never again. read more

Sometimes the Best places to go are the ones you just trip over. While on return of a long daytrip, I saw T House Tavern as I drove by. It was worth turning around for. The Food was tasty & full of flavor. The Service was better than expected. The guests in the Lounge were local & friendly. Hope to trip over T House Tavern again soon. Very Good!! read more

**Admission** I worked here when I was a teen...which was ummmmmmm...30 years ago! With that said, I was back in town about a year and a half ago and stopped in for a few drinks and dinner and dear god...they make the best onion rings and fried haddock on the planet. Went in with the family for lunch. Was told the dining room was closed and only the lounge side was open and the menu was limited (it was Christmas Eve). Found our own table, and was greeted with the "waitress" throwing 2 pieces of paper on our table, which turned out to be the "limited menu", written in chicken scratch. We got up and left. lunch recently, sort of an old timey place that has been here for a long time....two eating areas lounge and dining room with lounge open for lunch, standard stuff on the menu with some daily specials, food was very good, i had the pepperburger with onion rings and they were both very good, wife had the chicken parm panini which she thought was excellent, full bar with 5 or 6 draft items, sort of a trip back in time with the old signs and age of the place, service was ok, nothing special.....but it is an interesting place with food that was very good and prices that were very reasonable.... read more

I was certainly not impressed with most of the food, but the swordfish was good and I was glad to see it on the menu, the rest it was so basic I could have gotten a better meal at the hospital cafeteria. Great wait staff, very friendly and such but certainly all female which is kind of old-school sex standard I feel. I'm really torn on this place. On the upside, the food is DELICIOUS, but on the downside, the service kind of sucked. Here's the run-down: When we walked in, we walked straight into the bar. Not really a family-friendly atmosphere, but I don't care much about that. We were told to sit wherever so I went towards the back of the bar (incidentally where the bathrooms were) and we had the little area to ourselves. Eventually our waitress came to get drink orders. She said they had a "full bar" but they only had three beers on tap (Yuengling, Bud Light and some other low-rate beer), and then stuff in bottles, but no cider. I ended up with a Jack and coke, a Stoli and Sprite for my female compatriot, a Sam Oktoberfest for her boyfriend, and a Yuengling for my fiancé. When she came back for the next round, they were apparently out of Oktoberfest so my friend switched to the Boston Lager but got two just in case (LOL). The food though... dang. It was so good. But I had some issues. - French onion soup: my friend seemed to REALLY enjoy it, so I'm assuming it was good, but it had bread in it so I didn't try any. - Veggie soup: hearty veggies, absolutely delectable broth. I could have eaten a vat of this. - Steak tips with mushroom gravy: ohhh myyy goshhh. I snuck a few bites of this despite knowing that the gravy probably had flour in it. It was worth it. - Mashed potatoes: a little bland, but tasty once salt was added. - Haddock Parmesan: Haddock baked with marinara and parmesan. Sounds straightforward, right? I asked if it had any breadcrumbs and the waitress told me no. But when it came out, the whole fish had been breaded and fried. I understand not everyone is going to immediately assume that I can't eat wheat but if I asked if there's bread on it, it should be pretty easy to figure out that I don't want it breaded... Once it came back out, sans breading, it was absolutely divine. Unfortunately I couldn't eat more than a few bites because I was so stuffed on everything else. - Cole slaw: my friend summed up the weird taste in this one with, "hand sanitizer." Oddly enough, spot on. One thing to note: the restrooms are single bathrooms (one men's, one women's) and they only have one light switch. So if people don't know this, you might end up in the dark. Overall, it was really good. If I'm ever back in the area, I would come here again, if only for the soul-warming veggie soup. read more

Possibly the worst service I have ever had. 3 adults, 3 kids (all under 10). It took almost a half hour for our drinks to come out. All that time the kids were going crazy, obviously hungry, and yet the waitress never offered any thing to sate them. I eventaully had to ask for rolls or crackers or something to settle them down. That came out about 3 minutes before the food. Overall 2.5 hours to eat lunch on a Saturday is inexcusable. read more

I've been back several times since my initial review and I must say I like this place for what it is. Unpretentious good ol' American food. You get store-bought Parker House rolls and butter with your meal, they only have one craft-brew on tap but at least it's been a Wachusett Country Ale and the food is stick-to-your-ribs good. I've lucked out two Fridays in a row and been waited on by cutie-patootie Emily who has admirably dealt with the good-natured ribbing that our party of old geezers has laid on her. We visited this place on a Saturday night, it was steady but not busy. There really wasn't any wait. The food wasn't half bad I actually enjoyed the chicken Parmesan manicotti dish I got. I wasn't impressed with the side salad or the bread they served. I would have given the restaurant a 4 star if the service was better, the service was slow. Find the food on pricey side for the portions here. I've had some excellent meals here but generally the food is forgettable unless you stay with basics like burgers, etc. For some reason bartenders here always seem miserable too. Service is fine speed wise but they aren't very personable. And for some odd reason today there were no side dish options for a meal other than french fries or onion rings - no potato, rice or veggie options. When you put that together with my very small seafood entry today was pretty disappointing. read more

Four Fried shrimp in a "fried shrimp dinner" $16.01. Came with a small amount of coleslaw and more potato's than you would want probably to make up for the empty to go box. Side salad... All Lettuce with one small piece of cucumber and a tiny cherry tomato and that was it! I got it to go and called and was informed that is the amount they give. Took my daughter here one evening after a long days work. The service was absolutely awful, and I mean awful. The waitress was tired, complained about her overly busy day, and practically threw everything at us. She wasn't pleased when we ordered from the menu instead of a "special." She forgot my salad, and I had to ask for it twice. Got the wrong dressing, the scallops were drowned in yucky butter, my chicken was terrible - dry and overcooked. Everyone who came into the restaurant after us was served before us and had already left before we got our meals. I have been to a lot of restaurants, and this was the worse. The Townsend House & Tavern is great for their food and their service. Everyone there is so nice. We were on the way to a family vacation to Lake Winnipesauke for a week. We planned to have brunch at Parker's Maple barn on the way (kind of a tradition). While traveling from Westboro MA to NH our mini van started acting funny on 190. We smelled a slight burning rubber smell and though...t it might be either the truck in front of us or maybe our air conditioner. In the 104 heat, we turned it off our air conditioner and it seemed to be better. But, we were so hot!!! We evenutally made it to Rt 13 in Lunenburg when our transmission seemd to just let go. We were able to coast and were looking for a shady spot when we noticed the Townsend House restuarant parking lot. We were able to coast right into a parking spot...like it was meant to happen that way. I explained to the very nice woman that our van broke down. She immediately said no worries if we needed to leave it there until it could be fixed or towed. She brought us drinks, chkn tenders for the kids and turned the tv to the Disney to keep them entertained. Turns out she was the daughter of the owner (Bobby). He immediately dr...opped what he was doing to take the time to try to repair the van. When we realized it needed some transmission service, he offered to help w/transportation to get us to our destination and/or make arrangements to get our van fixed locally, if possible. We concluded it wasn't a fast fix, he helped make arrangements to get our van towed to a repair shop closer to our home. Needless to say Bobby and his kids went above and beyond to help us. We may have arrived as strangers, but they quickly treated us like family. We all appreciated their kindness and support. Our lunch was great too! they have the best veal parm ever! read more

I eat here every week! Great family owned tavern. Warm atmosphere very friendly, accommodating staff! Some reviewers tend to complain about the décor I, however really like it! antique rustic feel. The waitresses are all quick and polite (except for maybe 2 who tend to be a bit slower). The place is packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but closed Sundays :(. The food is incredible! expect to wait a little longer for food on the weekends due to how busy it is, but trust me its WELL WORTH IT! my favorites are the Surf and Turf, or the new ribeye steak! Also there are now 5 beers on draft. Stella Artois, yeungling black and tan, yeungling lager and of course bud and budlight! (I love beer haha) the only bad things I can think of would be the parking on the weekends, and the longer waits on busy nights, but you can expect that from any GOOD place. read more
