Wonderful food! Excellent staff! Love the atmosphere. My husband and I stopped by this evening. It's been a few months. The quality is very consistent. We started with cocktails, arugula salad and bread service. Everything was fresh and bread was yummy, drizzled with honey butter. For our mains, I had the tuna poke bowl and my husband had the pork Milanese. The tuna was fresh, over a bed of perfectly cooke rice, avocado, edamame and lots of healthy goodness. My husband said his pork was as good as his German Schnitzel! I really love the small pours of high end wines. I had a Barolo to wrap up my meal. What another amazing experience!! We day at the Oyster Bar and was greeted by Executive Chef Ben Woffe. it took is all a minute to recognize eachother, but this moment made for a fantastic dinner. The place was quiet, which allowed Ben to sirens time talking to us and giving is the ones and outs of his creations. Our server was Sienna, who was bright and personable, and worked side by side with Chef Ben to make our meal memorable. We started our meal with oysters. Chef gave us his recommendations and they were has delicious as he hyped them up to be. Then we tried the lobster guacamole, which the star of the shows was actually the bacon lardon that's layered in. A must try for anyone who loves this dip. I had the pineapple braised pulled pork tacos. I could barely finish two, yet alone the 3 healthy sized tacos. And my girlfriend was treated to both the crab cake and the specialty salmon cakes. She proclaimed the salmon the winner of that cake battle. For desert, which we didn't finish either, was the berry cobbler. I compared it to an oversized toaster strudel, but homemade and much more flavorful. Overall, we love it here. This is our 2nd trip and we'll be sure to come again soon! Really nice time having appetizers for dinner w/ my friend. We shared the fig and prosciutto flatbread, arugula salad, the mushroom gnocchi appetizer, and the ahi tuna. In town for business. Company hosted a dinner. Shortened menu with a nice selection of items. Chowder was good. The mousse was delicious. The steak was served in a deep cast iron dish on top of the truffle fries. While both the beef and the fries were good, the presentation and subsequent difficulty of slicing the steak in a deep dish and on top of the fries was frustrating and left me giving up half way thru. The fries were getting smashed and the high rim on the narrow cast iron dish made it difficult to use the knife. It looked and tasted great but was functionally a disaster. read more

Its all about the staff and food. This is a top tier restaurant that is being rated from soneone who has lived in San Deigo California for 40 years. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and presentation. It's a must! I will say I had to call out the kitchen on one of my meals. Flavor was there. Just o eroded a small detail. Met my mother there for dinner and I love that there is ample parking as it's a plaza. They sat me very fast. Granted I had made a reservation through the button on Google, which was very easy and they weren't full, but still service was fast. Waitress came right away and asked me what I wanted to drink and brought the table water and a soda for me. All the food we had was great so I was tempted to order the cheesecake for dessert. If the food at a place is just ok, I avoid the cheesecake as this can often ruin the experience for me as I love cheesecake and it is often not great at restaurants. Well here it was great. A bit more caramel drizzle than I would have wanted but still the cheesecake itself tasted great. I don't know how often I will come here as it's a bit out of the way for me, but I will definitely keep it in mind when I'm nearby. read more

Had a really nice meal here before a movie. Our waitress was super sweet and made my son feel at home. The food was delicious. When the calamari came out, a different waitress who brought it out immediately noticed it wasn't the normal amount, so she mentioned she would bring us another on the house which was an unexpected kind gesture. Our assigned waitress came by a few minutes later and noticed the kitchen had made a small mistake on my son's meal so she had them remake it and we really appreciated that too! Had dinner here for the first time last night. We grabbed seats at the bar, which is always our preference as we feel service is generally better at any restaurant when sitting at the bar. It was not busy yet since they had just opened. I loved the open kitchen area, it's nice to watch the bustle of a restaurant. White cosmopolitan and brown butter old fashioned drinks were very well made and tasty. They came out quickly. We ordered oysters and shrimp as an app, also served quickly and we found the 2 types of Maine oysters delicious! I wish they gave a spoon for the mignonette, though. They provide a wooden stick with the oysters but there was no efficient way to add mignonette to my oysters..kind of a fail but a small detail. We had another round of drinks, the bartenders were on top of it & we love that! Ordered our dinner, steak frites and shaved cauliflower and kale salad with salmon added. I will agree with other reviews that the portion of steak was not acceptable for the price. The cast iron pan was filled with fries but there were only a few small chunks of steak in there. It was tasty but my husband said he would never order it again because his dinner was essentially fries. I think they should just charge more if they have to but give a decent portion of steak.My salad and salmon was great, I found my portion of salmon to be appropriate. I also had a glass of wine and agree with another reviewer that the pour is very small for the price. I expect to pay $12-15 for a pour but it should be a little heavier than what it was. My husband and I had a delightful date night at this restaurant last night. I had made reservations in advance since it was my first time there. Our reservation was for 7:30, but we arrived a bit early and were promptly seated. We sought a casual yet elegant dining experience, and the restaurant's laid-back vibe immediately put us at ease. Our table was situated by the open-concept kitchen, allowing us to witness the culinary magic unfold. Our server was exceptional. Although I can't recall his name, he had a really cool mullet and an great attitude. His helpful recommendations guided my choices and enhanced my overall dining experience. He even complimented me on selecting his favorites, which I must admit, were all incredibly delicious. We started with oysters and jumbo shrimp, which were super fresh. I went with their butcher's block choice of petite filet with mash and green beans, and I got Brussels sprouts on the side. I told my husband that if I died last night, I wouldn't even be mad because at least I had an amazing meal before I went, lol. The filet literally melted in my mouth. The mash was so creamy and perfect. I also got the Groth Cab wine, per our server's recommendation when I asked for a good wine to have with steak. I left wanting an entire bottle of that wine!! My husband had the haddock tacos, which he said were super flavorful, and he mentioned the guacamole was super fresh despite not being a huge guac person. We decided to be gluttonous and each get our own dessert, and boy was that the right choice. I got the cinnamon roll bread pudding, which was unreal and remained super hot the entire time I was eating it. My husband got the blondie with a mountain of ice cream on top, and I will say mine was better with his ice cream, lol. The blondie in the ice cream dessert wasn't great, but if that's our only complaint, I'd say that's a win. As for the atmosphere I feel like I couldn't put my finger on what the vibe of the place was decor-wise. It seemed kinda eclectic in the sense that it conveyed a variety of styles that didn't seem super cohesive together. It's giving casual Maine nautical vibes but also rustic farmhouse that's somewhat fancy, but then there's TVs and shuffleboard in the front. The restaurant definitely gave a family vibe, and it seemed like there was a good amount of families there, but I really enjoyed it for a casual date night. Solid choice! I came here the other night around 7pm for a couple drinks. Bar was open seating so I grabbed a spot there and ordered a glass of Prosecco. I also ordered one shrimp cocktail and one oyster. They came out pretty quick (as I would expect) and were just what I had been craving. It was nice to be able to order a la carte. Bartenders and waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. The entire place had a good welcoming vibe/atmosphere and it was pretty busy, I would definitely come back here! read more

Finest food around for the casual fine dining atmosphere, must say everthing has flavor

What a disappointment; an expensive disappointment including thoughtless service, ridiculous wine servings and cartoonish deserts. Lowlights: - Reserved a table 30 days before the visit but were shown a postage stamp sized table in the least pleasant location in the house. Other diners declined it after we did. Other tables remained empty. Why? - A 6 ounce pour of wine was $26. The bottle was likely available at Colonial Spirits for $24. Why? - The chocolate mousse was exactly this: 8 ounces of fudge icing from a can topped with 6 inches of whipped cream in a weird carafe shaped jar. Last I checked mousse is supposed to be airy. This was sludge. How can you ruin mousse? They would describe this place as an elevated dining experience. The price is elevated but the food and service is strictly Applebees+Olive Garden. Best decision of my trip!! I'm visiting from California and this restaurant was, hands down, the best choice I made while out here. You know how when you're traveling, you hope to stumble on that one unforgettable spot? This was it. I ordered the clam chowder and I'm still thinking about it. Perfectly cooked and packed with flavor that tasted like New England comfort food with a chef-y twist. Hopefully you get Derek M. as your server he was great! I've eaten at plenty of great spots back in California, but this place could easily go toe-to-toe with the best of them. If you're anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and GO. Stopped at Great Road Kitchen prior to a concert at Groton Hill Music Center, with my elderly mother who was in a wheelchair. The host and wait staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. At 94, mom is not a big eater, so she ordered the salad with nuts,dried fruit, and goat cheese. It was perfect, and we saved half for lunch the next day. I ordered the hummus and pita app, which was great because mom was able to have a little starch to go with her salad, and I enjoyed the freshness of the dish. I also had three choice oysters, each from a different place in Mass. Wow, I mean WOW! Best oysters I have ever had, presented in an attractive dish on ice with sauce and horseradish. My Smashburger was good, and my cocktail was nice. However, the stars of the show were the oysters. If you like oysters, you cannot beat this place for freshness, presentation, and oyster knowledge! The prices were reasonable, and although it was a little loud for someone like my mother, it was a normal, busy restaurant ambience. I am still thinking about those oysters, and will be back to try more! read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating! My family and I can't stop recommending it. We went for my sisters birthday and started off with some drinks, while the cocktail menu was small all the drinks we got were great! We started with mussels and pulled pork sliders. The sliders were so juicy and had a great slaw on them. My parents loved the mussels and the sauce was so good we had to get extra bread to dip in it. I got the scallop and pulled pork pasta and the waitress was not lying when she said it was the best thing on the menu! It was so good with a little spice in the sauce, just creamy enough too. My sister got the steak frites and loved them and my mom raved about the salmon. Since it was a birthday we ended with a small sundae and it was HUGE! Plenty for 4 of us. Great Road Kitchen never disappoints. The menu changes slightly with the seasons - in the summer, the salmon is grilled and comes with traditional BBQ sides like potato salad. In the fall, it is served over puréed beets and nestled beside a bed of sautéed cabbage. There's always a variety of oysters and some sort of whitefish entree and a tempting seasonal pasta dish. They consistently offer the same assortment of delicious tacos and you can (and should) order the cast iron chicken all year round. It's simple but perfect - crispy skin, creamy mashed potatoes, homemade gravy - possibly the best I've ever had. The desserts should not be missed. The servers and bartenders are experienced and knowledgeable. They know the menu and wine list backwards and forwards and make great recommendations. They never hover but are always close by and available when needed. The atmosphere is cozy, upscale and still casual. Not at all stuffy, but it feels like you're treating yourself. Go! And go hungry. Truly awful. Went there for dinner tonight. Showed up a few minutes before our reservation time. The completely disorganized hostess rudely reminded us we were early and asked us to step aside until our reservation time. She then completely forgot we were there. When I reminded her at the time of our reservation, we still had to wait because she had been seating people who came in after us in the available tables. Restaurant was incredibly loud and drafty. When we finally did get a table, we waited 35 minutes after being seated before our drink orders were taken and almost an hour before we had any food. The waiter was mostly no where to be found. All of the food was awful. Calamari were salty chewy rubber bands (and an incredibly small portion). Burger was pretty basic but way overcooked and came sitting in a pool of grease that completely soaked through the bun. Steak Frites were essentially strips of shoe leather on top of soggy, lukewarm fries. For the prices they are charging, this is completely unacceptable. Avoid this restaurant! read more

It was our first time at this establishment and we were graciously greeted by the hostess. Once we were seated at a beautiful table by the window,we were waited on by the most exceptional individual, Derek S. He was so kind and warm and my father and I were taken aback by his attentiveness. The food was to die for ! Derek was very accommodating and readily met our requests with ease. I am not even exaggerating,I was so impressed by his service and he made us feel like the only guests in the restaurant. He even held the door open for us when we left ! The managers and boys who brought our food were the best and only good part of our experience, they were super friendly and talkative with great personalities. The drinks were good as well as the oysters. The chefs clearly didn't have a lick of pride in the food they served. Our waitress had an attitude and didn't check in on us at all. She was unattentive and unapologetic. The bill was over $250.00 and not even close to worth it. They cut the sea scallops to bay size so you paid 36$ for 2 sea scallops and a SPREAD OUT half plate of gnocchi & shaved asparagus . The steak burger was well overcooked &mushy Brussel sprouts. One of the managers did take care of our first round of drinks and apologized, when I went over and talked to her, She was really nice. But we wouldn't go back for that price especially since it ended up being over $300 with tax and tip. This was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. read more

Where do I start? This place hit all the right notes. Great casual yet refined ambiance for a restaurant west of Boston. The outside seating area is perfectly shaded and tables are spaced so as not to crowd the customers. I started with the shaved steak sliders and they melted in my mouth. Flavors we deep and delicious. I had planned on sharing them with my friend, but decided they were too good. I ordered the steak burger with cheddar cheese and their house aioli sauce. It came with an enormous side of hand cut fries too. The burger was cooked to perfection. Seared grill marks on the outside but juicy juicy inside. The service was top notch as the servers were very attentive without hovering and were quick to bring additional items over when requested. Definitely a great place for dinner or lunch! read more

Decided to give this restaurant another try. The service was much better this time. Great ambiance in the dining room past the bar with the open kitchen. My only complaint would be the food I ordered. I got the angry shrimp pasta and it was WAY too salty. Given the fact they already have olives and capers in it, the shrimp tasted light salt cubes. It was actually difficult to eat given how the only flavor coming through was an insane amount of salt. Hopefully they can fix this recipe on the menu otherwise my experience was good. read more

I get the low staffing theses days and can accept that since I manager a similar situation as well...but this wasn't the issue. 40 minutes for a seared tuna and a salad is a bit much and the place was past the peak. I have not been here in 3-4 years. Tonight I went in because a friend gave me a GC. I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. The wine list was great, the menu had many appealing options (it always has) and the food we ordered was delicious! Peju Sauvignon Blanc was well paired with oysters we ordered. Armed with a great selection of wines, Chef Ben prepares some awesome dishes including a fantastic dish of scallops which I loved so much, I went back again 3 days later just to get more of the same. The service is warm and friendly - really making someone on his own feel welcome and comfortable. The restaurant is a very comfortable space with a variety of seating, both inside and out, that will match your mood and make you feel at home. Dear Great Kitchen Road, Let me begin by apologizing diving into my plate like I was Michael Phelps at the 2008 games. My mother taught me better table manners than I was able to use in your restaurant today. Starting with the gin/St. Germain/ pink pepper cocktail (the name escapes me but the taste never will), and then heading into the sweet potato tater tots (crunchy, salty heaven) with chipotle aioli, the food and drinks you serve POP. The Thai lettuce wraps were the freshest, most succulent use of chicken and raw veggies ever set on a plate. Finally, the house made buratta with black garlic spread on ciabatta and arugula and tomatoes made the bruschetta stand out in the best way.
